42 guests' feedbackOur weekend was top notch. It's an amazing place.
There is Wi-Fi, but the signal is very weak and the Wi-Fi doesn't really work, although it is realistic for between the mountains, it also creates the ideal opportunity for rest and break away.
Nothing to do but hike, eat and relax.
We as a family could switch off and rest. Could also walk the nice hiking trails. Attention should only be paid to maintenance of the place, e.g. the bushes in front of the beach house and the main reception are trimmed so that one can have a nice view of the mountains. The walking routes also need to be marked a little better.
The road to the lodge is bad with loose stones and protruding rocks in places. Definitely not suitable for city vehicles. We were kindly welcomed at Reception, and explained how to get to the Forest Cottage. The log house was neat and clean on arrival, but looks neglected. The wood needs treatment, the front door is difficult to open and close, and the base of the toilet is leaking water onto the floor. Rodents ate our bread and crackers through the night, so make sure everything is in containers that can be closed. The last criticism is that the walking paths are poorly marked with too few indications, especially on the way back from the waterfall. The positives are the breathtaking scenery and birdlife in the gorge. We also saw reedbucks, bushbucks, otters, badgers, baboons, blue monkeys and the eagles. Another plus is that the Forest Cottage is pet friendly - my bull terrier enjoyed it just as much. The location and scenery are exceptional, and make a visit to Forest Creek worthwhile. Special thanks to the resort staff who go out of their way to make your visit as pleasant as possible. Finally - take additional lighting with you, there is no alternative to load shedding.
The road is not suitable for all vehicles. 4x4 only! Forest Creek Lodge will need to plan to shuttle guests to the lodge at no extra cost. It takes you almost 24 hours just to get over the trauma of the road before you can even relax and then you start stressing about the road again! We had a wonderful stay. The cottage was clean and comfortable. The welcome was not to our liking, but June and Sibongile made up for it the rest of the weekend, through their good service and nice attitude. WiFi doesn't work at all and there was no Vodacom signal. Thank you Forest Creek for allowing us to experience your natural beauty. That was the highlight. Blissful silence!
Forest Creek is truly a "hidden gem". With the most beautiful view and peaceful atmosphere, we were both able to relax and spend time together. Anita and Mush are the cutest and friendliest owners with the best staff. I recommend Forest Creek to anyone looking for a quiet and peaceful getaway.
Location is breathtaking! Very peaceful, friendly staff definitely the place to go if you want to get away from the hectic life!
The drive up to the lodge is 4,4 km of very rough road which adds a lot to your travel time. I recommend a 4x4 vehicle. Once you are at the lodge there is no quick drive to a shop or any other tourist attraction. There is also no cell phone signal. The hiking trails are a magnificent experience.
Lovely food and amazing beautiful lodge. The mountains and view is amazing!
The room was not clean, there were mouse traps in the kitchen cabinets and the road to the lodge was not drivable. Full of rocks and pebbles.
Great place and would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to get away from the city's noise.
We had a wonderful time together and the experience in nature was precious. The accommodation and meals are unfortunately very expensive. We have stayed at other places for the same price with so much a lot more.
Much more than we expected. One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. We will go again for sure.
Beautiful location, but prices for meals not at all justifiable. Disappointed with spa facilities as it was booked in advance and did not receive what was booked for.
Everything was great - accommodation, staff, management, meals, the prettiest view!
The place exceeded all our expectations. Would recommend anytime.
We enjoyed every second of our stay. Extremely professional service!
The accommodation was great. The room was very comfortable and clean. The service was really great. The spa disappointing. The spa room was cold and my wife got flu from the cold. The "massage" was nothing more than oil being rubbed on her skin. We really enjoyed all the meals. It was our second time there and we shall probably go back.
We went home in the new "Beach Cottage". The decor is beautiful. The place looks like an authentic booth. The environment is particularly beautiful. We were mostly self-sufficient (the apartment is very well equipped) but did eat in the restaurant on Sunday evening. The cost was R250 per person. The food was ordinary and there was no choice. We expected more.
The Bee Eater unit is not well placed, it's too close to the kitchen which is noisy with dishes. It's also against the road, and the coming and going of cars made it a bit disturbing. Otherwise, very nice with a nice bath.
For a short weekend and rest it was more than worth it, but I feel the costs are high especially if you were to stay longer. We enjoyed the silence and planned our expenses to suit our pocket, but could not afford to stay longer due to the high costs. That said, the meals were very, very nice.
The lodge was beautiful with a breathtaking view. Would suggest that they are honest with people about how bad the R36 is and that they will advise people to drive in daylight instead. The accommodation advertises as Dullstroom where in truth it is like 60km away and takes about 1 and a half hours to get to Dullstroom with all the road works. The service was excellent and the accommodation breathtaking. Their wine list is ridiculously priced though. They put about 400% profit on a bottle. South Africans know about wine, don't try to fool us like that. Although the "spa" service was good, it cannot be called a spa. There is only one therapist. That is a room with a therapist. This was disappointing as this was my reason for booking there. It's a piece of heaven with a beautiful hiking trail, but they need to advertise honestly.
Highly recommend Forest Creek Lodge. A beautiful place: " A little bit of heaven of earth". Quiet, peaceful, fantastic forest to walk through, stunning scenery. Mush and Anita and their staff are just delightful, and make sure your stay is everything you want. The spa is relaxing, food delicious and JoJo , what a sweetie. Not far from Johannesburg, for that wonderful calming weekend.
It was truly the most wonderful wedding anniversary I had. The place is so private and the food was delicious. Anita and her people spoiled us wonderfully. The walkway was of course a challenge for us but it was wonderful to walk up to the waterfall.
The surroundings are very beautiful and the atmosphere peaceful. The staff are helpful and the service good. The food is 4 star and the accommodation is luxurious, clean and spacious. However, the dirt road to the lodge is very rough.
Good and prompt service. Can be recommended.
Lovely and peaceful. 4x4 or high clearance vehicle a must because of roads, especially during the rain. Amazing hikes and views. Only downside for staying where we stayed was that we thought we would have peace and be undisturbed by others - we didn't realise that the staff would be cleaning daily, and attending to other things which could be disruptive.
See the stars below.
The closer you can be to your Creator! Awesome place!
Very nice place to get away for a weekend. Very beautiful nature that surrounds the place. One is carried on the hands here with excellent service. Food served is excellent!
Had a great weekend!! Thanks to all the staff at Forest Creek!!
The staff very professional and helpful. Very nice food. Our Bee Eater cottage was very pretty and nice to stay in. The mountains and forest walks are absolutely awesome!
The 4-km ride to top definitely requires a high clearance vehicle. If you are not travelling in one than you'd be better off asking the lodge to collect you from the gate.
Only at Forest Creek for the weekend, but it was very pretty. We were a little disappointed with the food - very basic, but the friendliness of the staff, the views, the beautiful suites and the great hikes I guess made up for it.
We had a short but very pleasant stay at the Bee-Eater chalet, amazing features all around the lodge with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and cliffs. Except for the double booking at the spa we enjoyed everything - especially the 4x4 expedition. Getting to the lodge: be warned, you'll need to make provisions for at least a 20-30 minute drive from the tar road turnoff to the lodge, the 10-12km scenery trip was beautiful but from entering the Forest Creek cattle gate, your speed limit at times cannot exceed 20-40km/h. Food was really good! Pierre & René Wiese
It was total enjoyment from the time of arrival to departure, the staff was friendly, helpful and ready to assist. The food was excellent from start to finish. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone that need a break from the everyday rush. Its the best spot to sit and relax, and enjoy the quietness of nature.
Forest Creek Lodge is located in a beautiful area and enriches your stay there with wonderful activities. It's a truly wonderfull place to wind down or take a romantic weekend with your loved one.
The lodge is 4km up the mountain, vehicle with ground clearance is a must. The place is small and intimate, our room was excellent, service exceptional and the staff very pleasant. Food great. Hikes are easy and pleasant, dam was excellent for trout flyfishing (caught plenty) on a catch and release basis. The views are fantastic. Will highly recommend this lodge and will not hesitate to visit again. An ideal place for couples, not a place for families with small kids - in my opinion kids will be bored. Quite pricey but rated 4 star - but what you pay for is what you get.
We had a wonderful honeymoon at Forest Creek Lodge and Spa. The food was very good and the accommodation excellent. We felt some of the extras like R150 for a bush lunch consisting only of sandwiches, chips, fruit and water... not even a drink... was a bit pricey. However we were very spoiled by the staff and they went out of their way to make us comfortable. The location is quite remote and we felt a bit cut off without any cell phone reception - but that's part of why this location would be perfect for nature lovers. Many of the things we thought would be free, we had to pay for, like dinner in the gazebo and the outdoor bath. But all in all it was a great experience and many good memories were made.
This is a gorgeous spot. Very nice walks. The accommodation is great and the food is also good. A lovely retreat!
