I recently visited a place to stay that exceeded all my expectations. The stay was simply exceptional and I cannot recommend it enough. The accommodation was exceptionally clean and well maintained, with an eye for the smallest detail. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, making it the perfect place to break away from the everyday hustle and bustle. The staff were friendly, helpful and did everything they could to make my time there memorable. The view from the accommodation was breathtaking and evoked a sense of awe and wonder. I truly enjoyed watching the sunrise over the beautiful landscape every morning.

If you want to relax and just chill, this is the place. Had rain and snow on our front porch. Nice and cold experience. For two people, the Herdershuis is a perfect weekend cottage. Neat clean and everything and more you want. Would go again anytime and highly recommend. 10 out of 10!

"Warmth in a cold night."

An icy cold wind blew upon our arrival. The rooms open onto the veranda and it was freezing to move between the rooms. However, all the essentials were there and we slept nice and warm and showered. Good place to stay if you are on your way to Tankwa or further afield.

The cottage is well appointed and is equipped with everything for an overnight stay. A nice touch was a jar of rusks and milk in the fridge.

The Herdershuis cottage is a cozy place to live with everything you could possibly need. The indoor fireplace is located in the middle of the cottage to provide heat to the living area and bedroom. The environment is quiet and peaceful with the most beautiful sunsets. The hot tub is quite easy to use. It did take a long time to warm up. Make sure you start the fire early in the morning.

Sheep around the guest house with lambs had been a great experience for the children. So is the hot tub on the porch.

The tranquillity and peacefulness of the farm were the food for our tired bodies. We are now well regenerated, ready for 2022. Great facilities.

We stayed in the Meulhuis in one of the rooms. Room is large and comfortable and beds very comfortable with electric blankets. It's well equipped for two people per room. We didn't see the second room but did have access to the braai room which had large leather sofas and a very large indoor hearth. Kitchen facilities are basic with a microwave and small mini oven and two plate stove 'combo' in the unit. Medium sized fridge with sufficient freezer space. One shortcoming is that there are no washing up facilities for dishes. They only provide a wash basin (with soap and cloths) that one has to fill from the bathroom tub or sink. I ended up washing the dishes in the bathroom sink. A little more crockery can also be provided (there are eg only 2 glasses of each type) as it is not so comfortable to wash dishes. The farm is 30 km from Ceres so there are no places nearby where you can eat out or buy food, so you just have to take all your food with you (I planned for this, so it was no problem). Kitchen facilities are basic but sufficient for a night or 3. One problem is with loadshedding you can't heat anything as they don't have a gas stove/gas plates. The Farmer and his son were very welcoming and hospitable and allowed us to drive and walk around the farm. Lovely to see cattle, sheep and even donkeys. My 17 year old daughter really enjoyed it! Children of all ages will enjoy it. Large lawns to play on. Geese, chickens - real farm experience - not just fruit orchards. Particularly beautiful area away from the hustle and bustle of the city and a privilege to be able to stay and move around on such a beautiful farm. We will definitely go there again! NB: There are other houses, one of which is large. For a group of 10 people or so. I assume their facilities are more suitable for longer stays in terms of cooking

A neat, clean accommodation which provides everything needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. A quiet, peaceful farm where the sheep roam in the fields in tranquil view of this large house and the kids can play in ample space.

The cottages and main house was equipped with absolutely everything! We had the best stay and all the privacy we wanted. Even electric blankets to stay warm during the cold Karoo nights. We will definitely be back.

The well-kept farm and the beautiful surroundings was a real treat. Excellent stay not too far from Ceres town. And the roads are well maintained.

Observed farm life daily and saw farm animals everywhere, as well as various bird species. I was privileged to see ewes caring for their newborn lambs. Playful lambs made me laugh out loud. Because I flew in to Cape Town, Maryke made sure that my first day's food needs were bought and ready for me in the apartment. Great, great service, thank you.

The Van der Merwe nieces and nephews finally had a reunion! 18 of us, most of whom haven't seen each other in 30 years! Forgotten Highway was the perfect "venue", with our ancestors who farmed in the Koue Bokkeveld and moved to the Karoo in winter with their livestock. We had a great time and talked a lot! Everyone was happy with their place to stay, most visits took place in the Farm House. The evenings were cold for Nov, but the starry sky beautiful! Thanks for the indoor braai that kept us warm while the men were braaiing on the stoep. The electric blankets were also a nice treat! Chairs and tables were brought outside for us to hang out on the barbecue patio which helped a lot, half forgot their camping chairs! Thank you very much for being able to hold this very special event in your beautiful world, we take many beautiful memories with us!

Dirk was awesome, helpful, but not intrusive and gave us all the space we needed. I will most definitely be back. Facilities are amazingly good.

The rooms are beautiful and the plaashuis is big! Just wish that we had a proper braai stand and that the outside light worked so that we could see what we were doing, but other than that it was a very nice stay and worth the money. We will definitely go back.
