75 guests' feedbackWonderful reception from the owner. Friendly service. The place is comfortable and the farm feel was fully there. I will definitely go back to relax.
See stars.
Had a wonderful stay. Very hospitable and nice.
What a well equipped cottage in the Karoo veld! We were very pleasantly surprised with the quality and comfort of the accommodation. The silence and openness was a wonderful experience. Our two Weimaraners also enjoyed the large fenced yard very much and tired themselves out every day! The puppy saw sheep for the first time when they came to graze next to the fence in the morning, she woke me up with great concern to come and see the strange things. The braai packets on the first night were top notch and highly recommended!
Less good cell phone reception (but that counts as a plus for me).
We got no reference and happened to book on the way back from the Cape to Johannesburg with our dogs. Was pleasantly surprised by the farm's beautiful nature, the friendly people, etc. The splash pool was lovely.
We stay at Freek's Cottage Farm every year and every year it is a treat for the soul. Everything you need is there and you get to recharge your battery and start turning off when I pull the dirt path.
This little place on the farm, away from the noise and hustle and bustle of the town and city, is food for the soul. Everything you need is there. I wish we could stay longer. Would have liked to have gone for a walk in the field in the area, but unfortunately we had to drive again early in the morning. We will go there again.
The hospitality of the owners is unforgettable. The cottage was delightfully private with a breathtaking view of the pond and surrounding mountains. For hot days there is a swimming pool to sit in with a lovely tree. Evenings in front of the outdoor fire and listening to farm sounds. Indoor fireplace if it rains. Everything has been thought of in the cottage. If you forgot something at home, it's there. Town is close enough to buy something quickly, but far enough for a farm atmosphere. Beautiful horses and nature with nature sounds. We had a nice stay.
The photos don't do Freek's justice. Yes it's rustic but it's charming and lovely and we had a wonderful stay. Paula was a helpful and kind hostess. Will definitely return when back in the area!
Very peaceful and quiet for a nice break.
Rustic cottage, although a few leeks during storm. A little under equipped. Lovely views and well situated. Dogs enjoyed the big open fenced yard. Meat, salad and a nice bread was enjoyed.
Have fun. Will go again and again for sure.
One of the most beautiful farms in the Karoo. Well worth detouring a little off the road and visiting. One night is not enough. Very safe and fenced for dogs.
We had a wonderful stay and really enjoyed the braai packs and salad provided by the friendly host.
Was pleasantly surprised. Away from technology and seen the most beautiful stars, had a nice swim. Was well received and the most delicious food packages. Would recommend the place for sure.

We were still on our way to our final destination, but after a night here the battery was simply recharged. Cottage is beautifully furnished. Traveled with 3 dogs, the place was neatly fenced. The pool was a welcome surprise. Will definitely stay here again and recommend it.
On the most beautiful farm.
We stayed overnight and everything was clean and tidy. In the evening two bats flew in but when we left the living room light on all night they decided it was better to fly outside. We live on a farm ourselves and this is part of farm life. We were able to get cell phone reception at the pond/swimming pool to let our people back home know that we had arrived safely at the overnight accommodation. At the main homestead of the owners we would be able to get the necessary help if we didn't manage. Again, we are used to poor cell phone reception, but owners may just inform guests in advance that cell phone reception is limited. City lads don't know that. We would stay there again anytime if we were doing a road trip. The sunrise in the morning was something to behold.
This stay was more than I expected. Everything you need was there and we were even able to get a meat barbecue package from the hostess. The Karoo silence was an experience for the soul. Would just like to stay here for a week. Thank you very much, Paula.
Farm life. It was a privilege to show my family how our farmers live and sacrifice.
We had a lovely stay. It's beautiful and peaceful. It would be nice if the bedrooms have doors.
We could not have been happier with our stay at Freek's Cottage. We read so many reviews saying it was basic, but honestly, everything you could possibly need and more is provided. A beautiful, cosy stone cottage with a lovely indoor fireplace as well as a protected outdoor braai. Located next to the dammed up river with the sound of the wind pump and the cry of the fish eagles the only sounds you'll hear. We loved the friendly horses who were there to greet us on arrival! A real farm stay on a working farm. The scenery is gorgeous and if feels you are in the middle of nowhere, yet Murraysburg is only 15 minutes away. We'd absolutely recommend Freek's Cottage. It's perfect for a family or group of friends too!
We really enjoyed staying here. The cottage is very cute, the surroundings so beautiful and the Karoo's starry sky an experience! Furthermore, Paula is an excellent hostess!
In die middel van nêrens - in die middel van die Karoo - 'n belewenis en so pragtig.
Beautiful location with the call of ospreys making the sunsets unforgettable. Karoo hospitality at its best!
Everything that is needed. Will stay there again.
It was great to start the first night of the holiday like that. Just unloaded all stress and had peace of mind. Definitely recommend!
The unit was well equipped, neat and clean. The environment is very peaceful and quiet and very beautiful. We had a wonderful stay.

We had a great stay and were pleasantly surprised by how well equipped the cottage was. Very nice location.
Was received very warmly and welcomed, received the best service and was treated like part of the family. We really enjoyed the nature around us and the windmill that something special with our own braai facilities and braai suits, the surprise with ice cream and our braai suits and salad with grilled cakes was there every time and is safe. Could go in and out as we wanted and was really satisfied, thank you very much for wonderful service and thank you for being able to share your place, we will show everyone the photos and will definitely recommend everyone who goes to the Cape again to use you for sure . Will probably also do a Facebook page to be able to show others how well you are doing even more marketing.
If you just want to get away and be quiet, this is the place for you. The house is cozy and has everything you need. Paula's food is great.
The moment we drove through the farm gate of Freek's Cottage it felt like I was on holiday. We will definitely spend the night there again, the mountains, nature and silence are idyllic.
It would have been helpful to have had a warmer duvet on the bed as it was very cold.
Excellent contact with LekkeSlaap. Quick and efficient service and communication. Freek's little house nice and secluded on a working farm. They were able to assist us in skinning the antelope after we hunted in the area.
Very good value for money. The bit of dirt road we had to drive was in good condition.
I was welcomed with extra firewood for the overcast and rainy night's stay, the fireplace in the cottage is a highlight. Enjoy absolute stilness in the midst of the mountains.
Out of all the places we've stayed in, Freek's Cottage Farm is now right at the top of the list of our overnight places. My husband wants to go again for more than one night! Definitely a peaceful area and the owners are very friendly! Thank you Freek's Cottage Farm for a nice overnight place!
It was lovely to overnight at this cottage that even had ice in the freezer on a hot summer's day. The dinner, consisting of braai packs, potato salad and 'roosterkoek' was delicious and such a treat.
We always try and stay on a farm when going on holiday. This was our very first visit to Freek's Cottage but it will definitely be one of many. It is absolutely worth taking the turn-off and going to stay there. The house itself is very well equipped, spacious and spotless. The meat and side dishes you can order beforehand is excellent. We are still regretting not ordering more. There is full DStv but my teenage child rather walked around on the farm - that speaks for itself.
Excellent, very neat and peaceful.
If you are looking for a break from the busy city life, fantastic value for money, and a beautiful quiet environment, feel free to visit Freek's Kothuis! We were tired after a long day's driving (we spent the night between Pretoria and Hermanus) but the farm surprised us so much that we first had to go for a walk to explore. The cottage itself is neat, clean, and fully equipped and the friendly farm people provided us with chops, sausage, delicious potato salad, and grilled cake with jam and cheese at incredible prices. Nearby there is a pond and mountains that make for a beautiful sunset. Freek's Kothuis is not 5-star accommodation, it's 5-million-star accommodation, because the Karoon Night will take your breath away with its clear night sky and milky way. Recommend for people who love nature.
We had a nice stay, everything you need is available. Safe and relaxing.
The best ever price you can pay for the absolutely most amazing cottage to stay in. The farm is beautiful and safe and the owners really go the extra mile with their guests. There is a fireplace in the house and beautiful fire places outside. Bathrooms are beautiful. Kitchen beautiful. All food prepared for the picnic basket is of excellent quality and very very cheap. We just went home with a take away too because it was just too good. Will really miss this farm. Take your own extra blanket in winter if you are cold.

After a very acceptable dirt road trip, we were received friendly and in Afrikaans by the owners. The cottage is far enough from the farmstead to create the experience of remoteness but in truth it is just around the corner. The cottage is sufficiently furnished and very clean. The visit/braai area is wonderful with a lovely view. The firewood was provided at no extra cost. We can confidently recommend Freek's Kothuis.
Wonderful little gem of a place. The house was beautifully clean and tidy with spacious rooms. Excellently equipped and the picnic basket was top notch (barbecue, freshly baked bread, farm butter, delicious jam and salad). We really enjoyed it, thank you very much!
Secluded. Perfect for a getaway. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable. Will definitely stay there again.
Pleasant nature, bird and animal life at a large pond on a farm. We particularly enjoyed our stay with 2 adult children.
Really worth it. Was very peaceful and closer to nature you don't get.
Wonderfully relaxing in a picturesque part of the Karoo where the stars shine very brightly. The cottage's rustic finish fits perfectly into its surroundings and the kitchen had everything we needed. Clean and tidy and the owners are very hospitable and helpful.
The cottage is not far from town and is very peaceful and quiet. Just what you need to get away from the city. Will definitely come stay there again. The braai pack they provided was great. Thanks so much!
Wintertime at night by a fireplace in the Karoo: What could be better? The tranquility of a farm.
Our stay was lovely. The unit provides everything you need. The braai meat we ordered from the farm was very tasty and we recommend the option to everyone! We really enjoyed exploring the farm and the quiet surroundings. We will definitely plan another stay. Highly recommended.
It was a very nice surprise for us with the Windpump so close to the house and the horses in the background. The lovely fire place was ideal. The hospitality was wonderful. Especially the delicious freshly baked bread. Will definitely stay here again.
We really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.
We had a very pleasant time. The place is clean and spacious and very well equipped with everything you need. It's also nice and private. There is a very nice braai place with a nice view of the mountain. I would definitely recommend it to someone who wants to spend the night on the way to Cape Town with a family who is looking for privacy and just wants to relax. Thank you very much.
Will definitely stay there again.
The best value for money accommodation for a half way stop to Hartenbos. I was very impressed with the facilities and the area. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience, will definitely use you again as well as recommend others to stay with you.
Very nice environment. Cottage is basic, but has enough of the necessary. Short finishing/finishing here and there. If you can be calm on your own this is the type of place to visit. Host/wife very helpful.
We were privileged to see a herd of Angora sheep. Road to the farm is good. We immediately lit the fireplace upon arrival. Nice stargazing.
Overnight en route and back to Cape Town. Friendly service and the cottage is well equipped, however it was very cold at night (below zero at night in mid-June) although the log fire helped a little. Starry sky fantastic in the cold winter night!
Feedback may vary depending on everyone's expectations and frame of reference. However, as far as we are concerned: One night was too little to really exploit what Freek's Cottage and the surrounding area has to offer, but with what we experienced, it is a must on our next travel plans. What a nice braai area you have! The children especially loved it and would hang out by the fire all night if they could. And who knows, maybe we'll come next winter to try out the fireplace. The place has atmosphere and simplicity with style that allows one to relax. Thank you very much for your kindness and consideration.
We enjoyed the braai place with firewood, and the place was tidy. The two lizards that live inside the cottage caused discomfort with the wife and children. Otherwise it was worth turning off the N1 and driving the short dirt road to the farm.
The cottage is very far from Drie Susters and with a caravan the road was uncomfortable. We also couldn't put fuel in at Murraysburg because of the "quality" of the service station.
Caring hosts, quaint accommodation with everything that is needed for a few days stay. Would definitely return even though off the beaten track and worth a one night stay.
Freek's Kothuis is comfortable and has a very peaceful, rural atmosphere. Thank you for the bread we got because there was no more bread available in the town when we arrived.
Warm welcome with warm bread, salad and karoo lamb to grill. The cottage is well equipped and spacious with everything you need. Being able to make a fire and barbecue in the silence of the Karoo was heavenly. At the price for accommodation and dinner, it is very good value for money to spend the night in the charming and rustic cottage.
Would have loved to stay there for a weekend, but was in too much of a hurry to drive on.
A perfect cottage well out of town with comfortable accommodation at excellent prices. Fantastic walks into the veld and mountains with excellent viewings of Black Eagle pair. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise.
Wonderful customer service from host.
Enjoyed our stay and will go back again. Clean and tidy, had everything we needed except for a braai grid (there was even milk in the fridge!) Owners very friendly and helpful.
Our stay was wonderful. Our old fashioned, quaint and very practical accommodation suited us perfectly. Our privacy was ensured and respected and we had a warm and inviting interaction with our hosts throughout our stay. The farmâ??s vast splendor that includes significant copies, Karoo valleys and a river caters for game and domestic interests, hiking and lots of relaxation. I recommend this accommodation to city folk and the duration of the stay should be between 3-5 days.
