Frida is lovely. We got a really cool history explanation of Hopetown with our reception. We had a good barbecue and slept very well. We got very hot due to load shedding. Frida turned on the sprinklers to cool the air a bit and right there we played through the spray like children for fun. She is a people person, you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.

The place needed a bit of maintenance (blocked shower drain and one problematic tap) but was still a very pleasant stay-over for our long trip.
The place could just be cleaned better. There were 3 items under the bed from previous guests, including a sponge ball used to apply foundation to the face. But the view is beautiful, our hostess spontaneous and friendly, the mattress excellent and the bed linen nice and clean and fresh.
Had a great stay and the host went to great lengths to make sure everything needed was available. And she also provided a Weber Braai when I let it be known that I would like to braai.

I was specifically looking for something with an air conditioner and Frida advertises that there is one. However, on our arrival we were told that she was not on Eskom and we could not use the air conditioner. It was 16:56 in the afternoon 41 degrees about 10 km before Hopetown.
Booked a unit with a bath and got another one. Other than that, everything was fine and the hostess apologized.
She runs the accommodation on solar power. Since it had been a cloudy day, I was unable to use the fridge or the heating. The wifi is very slow. 2MBS download and 1MBS upload at best speed!
The guesthouse is close to the main route. Service was very good and person was very nice.

It was not our first time staying at Frida's Guest House, and we were warmly received just like last time. We slept great. It was like home away from home. Thank you Frida, we will stay with you again if Hopetown is our stopover.
We arrived at our destination very late in the evening. Saw beautiful starry sky. Although we were late, we were still very kindly received by the owner. The guest house is on the outskirts of Hopetown, on the very outer street, very close to the N12, but was still able to provide us with safe parking, even though we were towing a large twin axle trawler. Even though our room was located on the top floor of the owner's residence, it was still very private. The house's garden is a loop court in an arid region, the owner truly has green fingers. It is almost unreal to see what she has managed to do with her garden here. We slept here wonderfully, even if it was only for a few hours, we were already on our way at first light the next morning, because the road to Pretoria was still far. Hoping to stay here in Hopetown again in the future.

Aunt Frieda is the nicest person. She warmly welcomed us, showed us our room and gave us fresh milk for coffee. We wanted to change rooms at the last minute and she was so accommodating. The room is so spacious and lovely. Super soft bed with lovely pillows. We had so much fun playing in the beautiful garden. It was the nicest stay. From now on we will book with Auntie Frieda every single time. From the books!

The guest house is located almost opposite N12 which is very convenient, but the heavy vehicles can be a bit disturbing for light sleepers.
The kitchenette advertised was disappointing with no stove, sink or working surface and only the very basic cutlery. Frida was very kind in helping out with whatever we needed and her friendliness is infectious. The beautiful garden and comfortable bed made up for any thing lacking.
We had bad luck and had to change the reservation 2 times in a hurry and didn't arrive until 22:30 at night.
We were especially impressed with the beautiful ginger cat that came to visit us so nicely. Neat and clean accommodation.

We found everything we needed. The room was spacious, well worth the price. It was spotless. The only thing I can suggest is a table to prepare food or make coffee / tea on. The host was friendly, warm and welcoming.

Our stay at Frida's was everything we asked for and needed for our overnight stay on our road trip up the N12. From start to finish this was a good experience. We had a warm welcome to a stunning green, leafy, cool garden with views onto the veldt opposite and a beautiful Northern Cape sunset. The room was homely yet private and had all the necessities. The added personal touch of fresh milk in the fridge and pure ground coffee and a coffee machine were much appreciated. The bed was good and firm and afforded an excellent night's sleep. Thank you!

Although DSTV was advertised, it did not work. We understand that the lockdown has caused a lot of disruption. Would have appreciated an advance warning though. We visited another guest house for dinner as Frida's does not offer meals. Overall, our stay was good.

Wash in sunroom. Is a fairly dark room with cots in front of window so uncomfortable to open curtains. Was very clean and tidy. Will stay there again.
Unfortunately the room was very stuffy and we couldn't use the air conditioner because it blew directly onto our faces. The room was also very cluttered with pieces of memorabilia. I would stay there again if the price was a bit lower.
Wasn't nice. Had to sit outside in the dark for 1 and a half hours due to load shedding because there was no way to let her know we were at the gate. They probably never clean under the beds, because dust lies 2cm thick under the bed. Could rest, but definitely never again.

Real coffee machine with filter coffee in the kitchen, milk and ice cubes are freezer for my wine. Unfortunately got there late so couldn't see and enjoy the beautiful garden and drove early again. Frieda is a warm hostess who welcomed us kindly! The stoep room is very comfortable and comfortably furnished. There is a lovely lounge area with a very comfortable corner sofa and a lovely veranda with a beautiful view. We could sleep with an open door and enjoy the Karoo sky with all the stars. Very safe accommodation with a loop court of a garden! Thanks again Frieda for all your concern after all our exploits with the fire at Pringle Bay!

We toured everywhere we stayed on a self-catering basis. This destination didn't quite live up to that. The place was very tidy and we were given the use of the kitchen. The view from the bedroom balcony was breathtaking over the plains.

Everything was well organized and we were very well received. Was only disappointed because breakfast was not included then. Frieda informed us that she has not done this for more than 2 years. Stay was still nice thank you.
The smaller room is fine for a family with 2 children (the second room has its own TV which the children enjoyed). The other room is more spacious with a nice couch and open plan with a double bunk bed - my children preferred their own TV. Parking off the street and the Karoo view is beautiful. Frieda is really friendly and nice to talk to.

We spent the night here - aunt Frida is very pleasant and hospitable, makes you feel welcome and at home right away. We stayed in the Balcony Room, very nice, private and comfortable, with a beautiful balcony and barbecue where you can experience the beautiful sunset. Really a nice and beautiful place to experience - and see a part of the small town that I think so many people overlook.
The garden is a real loop court, the rooms clean, tidy, "warm" with everything one needs. Great to kick off shoes after a long day.
Frida's Gastehuis was a most pleasant surprise for us after a long's days travelling through the hot and dusty Karoo. Not only was it an oasis in that part of the country, but it was also Frida's home, a very special place that she designed herself and shared for many years with her late husband. Everything inside and out had charm, character and history and all of it reflected the love and warmth of its owner. The garden was full of trees, green lawns and beautiful roses and the view (from the large balcony of the equally spacious upstairs room that she gave us) was truly amazing. We arrived as strangers and left as friends. It is our sincere hope that travellers will continue to give Frida's Gastehuis the support that it deserves. We certainly will whenever we pass that way again.

The room was very neat and fresh and it is nice and close to the main road and accessible so that one does not have to search unnecessarily and possibly get lost and moreover lose time.

The town is struggling with power and water. This creates a negative experience of the stay.
Very friendly and helpful. Dogs cannot run around outside - the fencing is inadequate. Frida is an incredible hostess - you won't find nicer. Great air conditioning inside, even if the housing is somewhat on the old side. Wonderful garden with lovely large trees offers relaxation in the middle of the Karoo.
To sleep over in a small Karoodorp on the way to Cape Town, the guest house is definitely worth it. Would recommend the guest house.

We were private and could still barbecue etc. Place neat. Small bit of work on bathroom, but otherwise no problem.
We had a wonderful stay in the one night we stayed over. Frieda is a very good hostess and you feel right at home within 5 minutes. We had a great barbecue in the beautiful garden on a Weber that she lent us. All that guests need to be prepared for is that they do stay inside the house - separate facilities and privacy. We were not bothered at all.

We offer 4 luxury, spacious en-suite rooms (3 rooms are self-catering). Each room has a private entrance except the Balcony room. The rooms are equipped with DStv, heater, refrigerator, coffee/tea facilities and self-catering with microwave ovens. The Balcony room is not a self-catering unit but has a microwave, kettle and plates. At the moment with all the loadshedding there are no stoves available. All the rooms can accommodate 4 guests each. The Garden room is a unit with 2 bedrooms. The guesthouse is surrounded by a large, shady garden with braai facilities and safe parking. Free Wi-Fi connectivity.
The view from the rooms gives sight to the open panes, beautiful sunsets and charm of the countryside. The upstairs room with its big balcony and braai has a lovely view and spells out the peaceful atmosphere.
