Accommodation is offered in bed and breakfast rooms, a self-catering cottage, and a bush campsite for off-road caravans and tents.
The self-catering cottage, the Khoi San Cottage, is a rustic yet comfortable cottage that can accommodate up to 6 guests and contains 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a kitchen and lounge area as well as a patio and braai facilities.
Bed and breakfast accommodation is offered in Ou Kraal which offers standard double or twin rooms, and The Shed which offers larger double or twin rooms. All the rooms have their own en suite facilities. These rooms, like the cottage, at first were used as sheep kraals, coal and engine rooms. Now these rooms, with their thick, uneven stone walls provide very comfortable accommodation, full of rustic charm. Breakfast is included in the rate for these rooms.
The large Bush Campground features 6 sites with electricity and 6 non-electrified sites. The sites have braai facilities. The large ablution facility has hot water showers. A high clearance or 4x4 vehicle and/or off-road caravan is recommended.
Meals can be provided on request, at an additional fee, and can be served in the homestead dining room, on the verandah, in the big dining hall or sometimes in the garden under the shady trees. After dinner, you will have the privilege to enjoy one of the best star gazing opportunities in the country. There is a swimming pool, a farm reservoir and a farm dam to take a dip and cool off in the hot weather.
Ganora is a working dohne merino sheep stud farm so guests can enjoy watching farm activities like shearing and livestock herding. Children can enjoy feeding the orphaned lambs. Guided tours are available to the Bushman rock art. Fossil talks in a private museum, fossil walks and medicinal plant walks can also be arranged. For the more adventurous there are mountain bike routes, hiking, swimming in river pools, bird watching, or try to climb Compassberg. Furthermore, you can explore Nieu-Bethesda, visit the Owl House and Camel yard of Helen Martins, enjoy the coffee and craft shops or take a donkey cart tour. You will also be able to experience the magnificent Karoo sunsets in the vast open spaces.

78 guests' feedbackWe had a great time at Ganora guest farm! Hester, JP and their team go out of their way to offer a unique Karoo experience. We went for a walk on the farm, watched birds and learned about the fascinating fossils. We were also able to visit Nieu-Bethesda and Graaff-Reinet. We would love to come again!
This is a great place! Everyone is very friendly! The farm is an experience!
A piece of heaven with the most beautiful stars!
Very nice stay. Rooms nice and tidy, clean and comfortable. Staff and owners very friendly. My son really enjoyed the sleeping place! Breakfast was also nice.
It is a beautiful, peaceful place where you can rest well.
We really enjoyed our time there. Everything was clean and tidy and the bed was wonderfully warm and comfortable. The presentation on fossils was very informative.
See stars.
We loved the accommodation and would definitely stay there again, if ever in the area. We will also tell all our friends about it. Such a soulful experience seeing the fossils and the rock art.
Had a great time, had a nice warm lap in freezing cold. Had lovely breakfasts. Everyone very helpful and friendly!
The town and surroundings are picturesque and the service at Ganora is particularly good. This is a must for every traveler.
Had a great time. Ganora creates a nice home feeling during breakfast and dinner. The farm is very beautiful and the staff are really very friendly and helpful.
Had a great stay. The workers were helpful and went out of their way to make it as convenient and pleasant as possible. Very hospitable. Have a nice barbecue and visit.
For someone who wants to seek out the silence and tranquility of a karoo farm.
Our reception was very friendly and our comfort and convenience was Ganora's only goal.
We had a great stay at Ganora after a long day on the road. The children had a great time cycling and swimming and playing pool, so the parents could relax a bit. Dinner and breakfast were delicious.
Overnight rooms were 5* and delicious farm dinner and lots of hospitality.
Experience life on a farm and take in the experiences of the Karoo in one breath. The hospitality is out of this world and there is such a lot to experience. From learning about bushman paintings to Karoo fossil to majestic hiking. Turn of the N9 towards Nieu-Bethesda, anyhow you like but get there to experience this magic gem! Spend a few days if possible at Ganora to get the true Karoo experience.
We had a lovely one night stay on route to the Kalahari. Wow we wished for another night so we could explore the farm. The whole farm feeling with an excellent meal. The dinning room is epic. The collection of farm tools and the fire place was outstanding. The ostrich was proper. You guys rock.
Restful, just nature, good hikes, no TV in rooms refreshing. Main farming somewhere further away on the farm. Fun to give bottles to lambs.
Wow, beautiful place - we stayed in the cottage. It was neat and clean. The kitchen is well equipped. Nice and cuddly bedding. Had a nice view over the whole farm. You can book dinner, we had a barbecue! Enjoy a delicious breakfast at R120 per person.
Karoo hospitality at its best! We will definitely visit again, but then we will stay two (or more) nights. Thank you very much for all your efforts, we had such a nice stay there!
History and fossil collection very interesting. Beautiful rooms and very nice farm.
We had a great time and went for a lovely walk on the beautiful Karoo farm. The accommodation is next to a beautiful river and between the mountains. Hester and the staff were very friendly and the dinner and breakfast were delicious. I can definitely recommend Ganora!
Ganora is stunningly beautiful with all the cabinets. We will definitely visit again.
The absence of gas as an option when power is out can be inconvenient for unequipped travelers. We were fortunately equipped.
Very nice Karoo visit, the boys would have preferred a TV, but then we just used the "talk to each other" app. Excellent work!
The self-catering cottage is situated against a slope with very nice views over the farm and landscape, especially from veranda where braai is. The Karoo veld starts on your doorstep - ideal for walks and kids enjoyed exploring the surrounds. Fully equipped for self-catering and with comfortable beds and quality linen. Very interesting fossil collection at private museum and we highly recommend the informative fossil talk by JP. Dinner was really good and so was the breakfast spread. The 7km gravel road between Ganora and Nieu-Betesda is scenic. We could easily have stayed in the cottage for 3 nights.
Peaceful and invigorating on the beautiful, working merino farm with walking trails in an exceptional setting.
Beautiful setting, amazing hostess. Bitterly neat.
They really made us feel at home and even washed and dried our swimming towels after a storm left everything soaking wet. However, I am of the opinion that it is too expensive for the accommodation that is offered. Small kitchen with very basic amenities. Very small living room. The dining table and chairs on the veranda were only for 4 people. The porch overlooks the farm shed and sheep pens. There is a lot of activity around the accommodation in the early morning and late afternoon, if you want a place for seclusion it is not ideal. The dogs that come to visit are very friendly, but sleep on the patio chairs at night which leave them full of dog hair.
We felt at home from the start. The accommodation was clean, tidy and adequate. Dinner for fantastic. I would definitely recommend Ganora for a pit stop or a nice weekend getaway.
I have not yet stopped talking about my weekend. I am already planning a trip, for next year. I loved staying at Ganora. Hester and her team treated me like a queen, I just need to stay for a longer period, because a weekend is too short.
Had a wonderful visit on the farm. We were the only guests on the farm and the owner therefore upgraded us to the cottage. Very comfortable rooms and beds, fully equipped. We received a delicious dinner on our porch and looked at the starry sky until late at night. Our 3 year old enjoyed swimming, feeding the lambs and walking around. Breakfast was delicious and the service friendly! Would recommend Ganora to anyone and definitely want to visit again in the future.
Just what we needed for the overnight stay.
The silence and seclusion was fantastic.
Friendly service - cute new ablution. Silence.
Special guest farm. Plenty of opportunity to explore the excellence of a hidden part of the Karoo. Kompasberg circular route is recommended. Also, don't forget New Bethesda with its idiosyncrasies.
Accommodation was great and felt very welcome. Will go back for sure.
It was a memorable stay for various reasons - the enthusiastic knowledge that was shared in the fossil museum, the beautifully prepared and hosted dinner, the personalised service and the attention to detail in our accommodation.
Efforts were made to keep us comfortable and warm in the winter cold. Delicious dinner provided. The accommodation was clean, tidy and comfortable. The fossil museum and San drawings were special. The farm activities and outdoors were lovely. Particularly beautiful landscape. Will go back again!
Probably one of our most enjoyable visits ever. The hospitality and lessons about Bushman drawings and fossils made our visit so pleasant. We will definitely visit you again and then I will come and shoot my ghost film in New Bethesda.
Thank you Hester for your hospitality. We really enjoyed the peace and the farm. The walkways are beautiful, and the food and entertainment top notch! It was only one night's sleepover, but definitely worth the extra kilometers from the N1!
True Karoo hospitality, silence and tranquility, farm peace, clear starry nights, beautiful sunrises and comfortable accommodation that you will only experience when you leave the main road for the approximately 20 km drive to Ganora. You will be missing out if you don't book Hester and her skilled cook's meals. And on top of that, Ganora is conveniently 6 km from the must-see New Bethesda.
Wonderful experience on active farm. Unique, friendly. Great!
We had a really enjoyable stay, a nice swim accompanied by excellent food.
We had a very nice stay in the guest house of the Ganora Farm. The landscape around is stunning and there is a lot to do.
When you first see the farm from the road, you just know it's an oasis. The reception was friendly, meals delicious, rooms clean and spacious and nicely furnished. The pool is nice. We were only there for one full day and felt there was much more to discover. Thanks for the talk about fossils!
It was very cold but we slept warmly and enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Thanks to Hester's advice I did not get cold at the wedding that we attended!
Staying at Ganora makes one feel at home. It is absolutely an oasis in the arid Karoo, with very nice facilities, even better food and the hospitality that will make anyone who spends the night there feel at home.
Very pleasant and friendly stay and the service was excellent. Hester and her team were very accommodating. Nice to wake up to the bleating of sheep, you just feel like you're on holiday!
Great break in the Karoo. Near New Bethesda - a place to visit. Hospitality 100% guaranteed. Make guests aware of dirt road of several kilometers, only negative aspect.
We loved the setting in the valley with the clean and welcoming swimming pool and the green grass, it was like an oasis. The rooms were very spacious, clean and comfortable with delightful antique furniture. Hester and her staff were very caring and helpful.
Ganora has a lot to offer and it's actually a place that requires a two or more day stay to experience everything. To the Steynbergs, this is professional service you offer and we will definitely visit again to experience your extreme hospitality.
We had a wonderful stay at Ganora Guest Farm & Excursion. The location of the farm is beautiful but we still quickly went to New Bethesda. Auntie Hester is very hospitable and helpful. The fossils are definitely worth a visit!
An oasis in the bush. Terrible roads (from Nieu-Bethesda's side anyway) but worth it. Neat and comfortable rooms (with heaters and electric blankets!); delicious food in a restored house from the time of the 1820 Settlers, you feel at home. We just stayed there because we wanted to get Nieu-Bethesda's Owl House from our bucket list; but we returned for the wonderful accommodation, walking trails, fossils, rock art, mountain biking trails and more.
What a joy to be received by JP in Ganora. We were kindly treated all through our stay and the staff are all courteous and professional. Such a privilege to be on, and experience, a working farm.
Awesome location with plenty attractions and sightseeing. I must do!
Rooms were comfortable and clean. Food great value. Fantastic scenery and great service.
Children had an opportunity on arrival to give the lambs milk. Was very special! Delicious meals and had a nice swim in the swimming pool. The room was beautifully neat. Everyone on the farm is friendly.
Our hosts, Hester, JP and Pat went out of their way to make us feel at home. The peace and quiet of the Karoo is really tangible at Ganora. The beautiful pool was also a very welcome relief. We will definitely advise people to visit Ganora and make use of your Travelground services.
It's actually a sin to stay just one night. Friendly reception - great time on the farm. Any child who wants to discover things is a dream!
Most beautiful farm and unbelievable hospitality! Enjoyed every moment.
Just lovely! Beautiful setting, warm and friendly! We only stayed one night, but could easily have stayed a night or two extra to go walking and exploring!
There is a nice farm atmosphere. Really enjoyed the silence, great starry skies and clean air.
Ganora is appealing as a destination that provides access to the area and is in close proximity to both Nieu Bethesda and Graaff-Reinet.
Feel free to see the stars.
Ganora was great! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet place to stay on their way to the Cape. I would like to stay longer to experience the hiking trails on the farm and the fossil talk. I hope to be able to go home there again.
Rooms very spacious and comfortable. Garden beautiful. Environment is picturesque. Excellent place to stay if you are traveling from the north to the Eastern Cape.
Well received - clean rooms - highly recommended for outdoor trips!
An excellent place.
It is somewhere to stay longer, walk further, clear the mind & leave refreshed.
Wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Really hope we can stay there again.
Hospitable, friendly and sociable. Delicious dinner and breakfast. Well equipped accommodation. The private fossil collection is a must see - it's excellently explained by the host. We want to go back again to walk there and see fossils in the field for ourselves.
Excellent overnight facilities. Would love to return to stay longer on the farm.
We will definitely be coming back. Will definitely spend more time next time round. Thank you very much Hester, JP and Renier for your hospitality.
Good service, comfortable rooms. Thanks to JP who was still willing to open the museum after dark and do a presentation about the fossils.
We came to see the Owl House and the Fossil Museum in particular, and found the host of Ganore Guest Farm had his own fossil collection and could give us an expert talk on the subject. Guests had dinner together and shared experiences and thoughts with the hostess who was so very ready to answer questions and be of help. We were offered a bigger room than we were first booked for and it was most comfortable and spacious with the largest bed we've ever slept in. Though a few kilometers out of town, the distance gave us perspective on this isolated hamlet we came to visit.
I will come back again.
