Very warm welcome by Oom Jan Buys, he made us feel at home from home.

Disappointed with finer detail- Lodge provided coffee but there were no mugs (cups)!

The experience was reasonable except for the surprise that breakfast was not included in what we paid. All our stays on our road trips generally include breakfast.

In 2011 we spent a night at Gariep Country Lodge en route from Johannesburg to Cape town and spent the night in our caravan. I was delighted when arriving there that it was the same place and remembered the wonderful tree! This time it was our last caravan trip after 10 years! The caravan had gone full circle!

The only issue we had is that they could not provide supper, so we had to go to a different place to have supper. We also had to ask them to give us breakfast because we left very early.

Although we received a friendly welcome, we were disappointed to see that we were escorted across the road to a room that looked nothing like the advertised photos! We mentioned in advance that we would like to have a barbecue that evening, but even if there was an outdoor barbecue there was no barbecue or tongs, so we had to go out to eat. The photos on the website are very misleading, there was no green lawn for our dog and the room was definitely not what was advertised!

Host was friendly and helpful. Anina, who received us, was very helpful, especially with the arrangements for dinner. Dinner was expensive. Secure parking. Clean and neat room.

Although Gariep Country Lodge really doesn't look like a bad place to stay, there are a few niggles that made our stay less enjoyable. First, check-in time is indicated as 14:00 to 19:00. If it is so indicated, you expect that there will be someone to receive you. This was not the case and we had to wait outside for a long time for someone to show up. Suggest if it is not essential for you to have someone manning the reception all day, shorten your official check-in period to for example 14:00 to 16:00 and request persons who will be staying with you to make arrangements with you if they check in late. Second, before I confirmed my reservation, I asked if dinners were served. I was told that dinners can be ordered from a menu. Upon arrival, I was informed that the cook is not there this weekend. It is probably not unreasonable of me to expect that I should then have been informed about this development, especially since I specifically inquired about it. Third, WiFi: While it was technically certainly available (a password was provided), we couldn't decipher the password. It was handwritten with characters that could easily be confused with each other. The receptionist tried to help us, but after a struggle we just gave up. Print out the password and do not use ambiguous characters. Fourth, the triple room is advertised with electric blankets. Only the double bed had one, please specify somewhere that this is the case. Furthermore, everything was neat and in order. It's just not pleasant to be greeted by three big, and one small, blunder after you've been on the road all day.

"Safely fenced and they put me in the annex so that my dog could enjoy the entire lawn and was safely by my side. "

Really nice. The main guesthouse is well designed and really neat. The Annex across the road where I stayed is an older room but everything was neat and clean. The big bonus was the fact that it was safely fenced so my poodle had the entire property for himself. The staff is friendly and helpful.

"Disappointed - we didn't get what we expected."

When we arrived we were taken to the part of the guesthouse across the street, with none of the green lawns and nice interior in the photo's and description. I admit the room was functional and there was a braai area right in front of our door, but we felt like we didn't get what was advertised.

Very pleasant stay. Definitely the place to sleep over in Prieska. We really appreciated the hospitality. It's like a home away from home!
