301 guests' feedbackWe had a great stay, even if it was only 1 night and had everything we needed. Very friendly reception. Now make it our go-to between the Cape and Gauteng.
It was delicious. Summer should be better provided for cooling in the 2nd bedroom.
We only stayed one night. The guesthouse had everything we needed. It was a clean house with clean bedding. There was also a tub/shower that we could use.
Neat place and nice people.
Owners are interested in their guests and go out of their way to help. Will definitely stay there again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Gariep Gardens.
We didn't like the air freshener sprayed in the cottage. The low pressure geyser / shower was a huge disappointment. The hot water literally dripped from the shower. The asbestos walls between the units are board thin and we could hear every word from the unit next to us. A bit of soundproofing between the units would certainly help. Also sorry that there was no WiFi available.
Owner and lady, Roxy, who received us on Sunday was extremely helpful and accommodating. Place was neat and clean upon arrival. Roxy provides us with information regarding Gariep, as well as where we can go for visits and places to eat. Thanks for that. We will stay there again.
Friendly and good service and very hospitable reception.
Overnight stay was good.
Comfy stay. All we needed.
It was a place to sleep and met the requirements.
Liesl was very professional and kind. Also very informative and accommodating.
Stay was very pleasant.
We had a nice stay, the place is clean and tidy. The aircons are a bonus.
Safe and well equipped. Neat and clean.
It was a taste of fresh air.
We were pleasantly surprised with the layout of the place, it was very nice, neat and clean and lots of space. Sufficiently warm and soft bedding. Als was very well explained to us. I would go back anytime and definitely recommend the place. Thank you very much.
We had a very nice stay. Everything needed was there and we had a nice meal at the hotel with a beautiful view of the dam. Everyone was friendly.
Friendly hosts and comfortable digs. Very enjoyable stay.
Was a long journey from the Cape. Have fun. Also recommend the Tiala eatery.
Can recommend for any family to stay there.
See stars.
On arrival very friendly received by Liesl. Dricus and Liesl put their guests first. There was a power problem in the town and they quickly moved us to a part where the power was on. Thank you very much Dricus and Liesl, we would love to stay there again and definitely recommend your place.
The place is very neat and is definitely value for your money. We were kindly received and made to feel very special. Thanks to the hostess.
The place was beautiful, clean and tidy. Thank you for the interesting book on Gariepdam which was put down for our convenience. The flash for load shedding and air conditioning was a plus! Our host made so much effort - thank you very much.
The cottage was perfect for the 2 of us, but is very spacious and has space for 3. The photos of the master bedroom look much smaller than it actually is. The room was massively big, we really enjoyed it! The kitchen is equipped with all the facilities one needs for cooking and there is also a braai for those who want. A small swimming pool is also on site to cool off in after a long drive.
Loved the accommodation and friendly, helpful host.
Good and safe. Not far from restaurants and a fuel station. Clean and comfortable.
In short, that place was a quiet place to be and everything that we need was there. I don't have any complaints. The host even took us for a tour to check other houses for future purposes when I bring more friends and family he can cater for us. And even inform us about business operations in the Gariep, it was the 1st time to see a business person even market other businesses as well, that town is teamwork.
Good for an overnight stay to break a long road trip.
The little swimming pond was very nice in the heat. Extra towels, especially if you want to swim, would be nice.
Our short stay was great in a very relaxed environment.
The house was private and easy to find. There were a couple small things I would like to see improve. We had problems with the shower pressure when running warm water and it would have been great to have wifi. All in all the stay was comfortable.
Was wonderfully peaceful until the last night. Guests in unit next door were loud. The town of Gariep puts anyone at ease and the restaurants' dishes were delicious. Little to do in town, but we prefer it that way because we just wanted to be quiet.
R1000 to sleep one night is ridiculous. Will not do it again.
We have stayed here before as well. Neat and friendly people. I really enjoyed the pool again after a hot day on the road. I can recommend it. Will definitely stay there again.
Nice view in certain places.
The check-in was seamless, house is clean, we slept like kids. Drikus is such a super host.
Highly recommended for overnight stays. We were warmly received by the owner/manager. The place was particularly clean and tidy, very comfortably furnished with everything you need for an overnight stay.
Overall our stay was good and the unit exceeded our expectations in terms of amenities. The unit provided everything we needed for comfort on a cold windy winter evening. We loved the built in braai in the kitchen. Our hosts were friendly, welcoming and very accommodating to our personal needs and requests. Personal feedback for host: Perhaps consider installing an extractor fan in the bathroom, since there is no window. The geyser was only partially warm, not hot. The walls requires decent sound insulation installed, since they are paper thin. wood panel walls with zero sound insulation. We were unaware of people living next door and were startled awake by the neighbors snoring and peoples movements adjacent to our bedroom and later from the washing machine. This experience was very unpleasant, as at first we thought there was an intruder in the unit, until we realized it's next door. It was awkward, we felt our privacy was reduced significantly. We will probably not book again at this unit, unless alterations were made.
Some of the reviews gave a rather negative perception to the place so I was pleasantly surprised when I got there. It was clean, the host was there to meet us and explain everything we needed to know. They also send us the loadshedding schedule prior to our arrival which meant that we could plan nicely when to leave from our city. My daughter enjoyed the splash pool there and we could braai and enjoy our time as a family. The hosts were kind enough to bring us spices also for the braai which we had forgotten to pack in. We felt welcomed and the place was reasonably priced and we feel we got what we paid for. More toilet paper for the weekend would have been great though.
Large apartment, with the necessary facilities - coffee, tea and biscuits are provided. Was just right for our overnight needs, before we hit the long road.
Would recommend to others a perfect, halfway stop.
The paintwork is peeling a bit. The pots were also a bit small to cook with but otherwise it was clean and tidy.
Friendly hosts who went the extra mile to meet us at the filling station to accompany us to the accommodation.
Faucet is loose in kitchen. Shower water does not drain. Bathroom runs off kitchen, i.e. kitchen sits in the middle of room and bathroom. Photos are deceiving, if only the beautiful parts are in photos. Too expensive for what you get.
There are mold spots on the ceiling tiles and give the impression of dirt. Short upgrade. Stayed in cheaper places on our vacation for much nicer and cleaner.
For the price paid and what we experienced, it was not good. Would have at least thought there would be shampoo, soap etc. be available. No drying cloth available or where one would hang one. None of the doors close properly. The grout at the bath is out and just looks gaga. A.g. v the drywall between the units the noise from the neighbours' TV bothered us and couldn't go to bed early. Beds' headboards are loose. Didn't complete the form, didn't have or provided a pen to fill it out.
Along the way received by the driver and his spouses. All that is necessary pointed out to us. Friendly reception.
We were kindly received. We were hungry when we arrived and Uncle Johan quickly took us to a delicious place to eat. I would definitely recommend the place.
Thank you very much for welcoming us so kindly at the motor port. What a lovely surprise when we received a beautiful clean place with heaters already on. We were able to take a lovely shower and crawl into crisp linen and indeed another surprise - the warm blanket was already on and the bed was deliciously warm. Thank you very much, we had a wonderful stay!
Was a nice overnight stay. It's very affordable and good value for money.
Comfortable rooms and beds.
Very neat and clean. Nice and spacious. Everything you need to spend the night.
The one room unfortunately just smelled a lot of smoke, even though there were no smoking signs everywhere. Furthermore, very neat and comfortable. We slept really well. The facilities are old, simple, but neat and comfortable.
House was clean but bath needs some scrubbing. Small swimming pool and if guest staying at the tiny and lye crane can lock their gates, so we cannot access swimming pool, small pots.
Friendly reception and everything needed was there. Nothing fancy, but well cared for. Good overnight facility.
The apartment was wonderfully warm when we arrived.
The winter traveler can expect a warm bed, water and rooms.
Ideal on the way to the Cape.
An extractor fan in the bathroom will help a lot. Was pleasantly surprised with the stay. Value for money.
We were skeptical when we saw the place from the outside, but quite impressed when we went inside. It is clean, sensibly furnished and comfortable. Outside is a lovely braai place for when it's not raining. We rested well and were almost too lazy to get up the next morning. Thank you for the opportunity to spend the night there.
Might just put up more fences on the side for safety. Shower curtain was not there. Floor some wet mess.
The surroundings were beautiful and the dam overflowed beautifully!
Was clean and tidy, big and spacious, everything you need.
Friendly reception. No complaints about anything.
The shower's temperature is very variable.
Braai area very small, no one there to welcome us. We were told to call Johan at a cell number by some other guests who were there. No secure parking. Gate didn’t close properly. Property very old. Although it was clean.
Most definitely, I would come again.
Unfortunately no view of pond. So just right for a 1 night stay. Place was clean and although there was no water due to burst pipe, agent made a plan.
The only problem was hot water - they only have a solar geyser and as it was overcast most of the weekend. We had no hot water by Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Friendly reception. Unit was clean. There was no shower curtain though - would help keep floor dry in bathroom. Mattress may need to be replaced. Quiet environment.
The room is basic and needs some maintenance.
Furniture needs upgrading.
I enjoyed it a lot. It is affordable, very peaceful environment, well furnished and very friendly staff.
Old house and definitely not safe.
Johan very friendly and helpful. Unit is very dated. Maintenance: flushing of toilet very noisy, aircon unit is extremely noisy, light in fan not working, plug by kettle doesn't stay on, shelf in kitchen crockery cupboard peeling quite badly. Photograph on website is quite misleading.
The place is hopelessly overpriced. We stayed at a place in Gordons Bay. The price was similar. You cannot compare the two. The stay in Gordons Bay was spotless. Looked like 5 star accommodation. Gariep Gardens: The shower has no curtain. Toilet seat cover dirty. Soap holder dirty. Old bath mat before shower. (Was too scared to step on it. Wore sandals when showering.) Pictures of what room looks like are accurate but not of what it looks like outside. Inside of boiler must be cleaned. We decided to drive as soon as possible the next day.
I would have preferred a separate bedroom and the bathroom was very small. Very little hot water.
The bathroom was very dirty especially the shower, the black stains are on the tiles. It was quite creepy. The rest of the room was very nice and tidy.
The cottage felt dirty, bedding was dirty, shower didn't work, very noisy neighbors. If it wasn't for the curfew we would have driven on.
I wasn't expecting much because the ad had said it was a no frills type of accommodation. However I wasn't expecting the place to be dirty and dusty which made my kids get sick with hay fever. At first glance it looked okay but as my kids started sneezing I looked a bit closer around the apartment and found dusty cabinets, a lot of dust under the beds and behind the curtains and couches. It was as if the place hadn't been thoroughly cleaned for ages. The water pipes leaked in the bathroom and outside and in the morning after everyone had taken a bath there was a pool of dirty water around the entertainment area from the leaking pipes.
Linen is unironed and old. Entrance door's paint peeling off and looks like the entrance to a storage room. Broom and shovel stand in the living area and are extremely unprofessional. Bathroom is very small, about 1 meter wide, and the bathroom door needs to be handled carefully because it falls off the rail. The type of light in the bathroom is usually used outdoors. The cupboards in the kitchen are rotting. The smell in the unit smells like someone has smoked in it, unpleasant.
The owner should pay attention to the water flow of the shower, it is very weak.
I would come again anytime.
Would just like to see Canderel sweetener in kitchen since we don't use sugar. Otherwise very very nice and convenient.
Very neat and spacious accommodation.
A water pipe burst in the area and there was no water. The guest house provided us with buckets of water for the toilet and also kept us constantly informed of the progress in solving the problem.
The accommodation was clean and tidy, and very comfortable after a long day's travel. Gariep Gardens is conveniently halfway between our starting point and final destination.
This accommodation offers value for money. It's neat, clean and provides all basic amenities. The layout of the room is practical and one experiences a feeling of space, but the bathroom is very small.
Air con didn't work. Toilet leaked.
Will use the accommodation again.
Unfortunately we arrived in the rain, but on the whole a pleasant experience for a stop over.
They had to move us to another berth to accommodate our 5m trailer, even though I asked on booking if that would be ok.
The room was very bright due to a street light. A blockout curtain will get 5 stars.
Extremely poor shower/bath facilities. No locking possibilities for vehicle and trailer. Pathetic pool with extremely dangerous loose and sharp tiles. No decor planning, tasteless and from stokou era. Stokou tube TV. Misleading photos.
The unit was clean and tidy. We struggled to get a hold of the management during an electricity problem which was connected to the unit for 90% of our time there. Although it was very inconvenient, we were also offered an apology, as well as a free night ahead. We really appreciated the way of problem solving after the incident.
We were there for a very short stay, literally overnight. Our view is that the place was suitable for purpose and met our expectations for such a short stay. We were generally happy with the service we got from our host. We would need to be there longer though for a more extensive review.
If you don't expect much, this is OK.
Short more extensive tv like multichoicelg
Just a pity one person takes a shower then the water is cold.
Indoor barbecue was nice because the weather was bad. However, when the barbecue started smoking and we looked for the back door key there was none. All the windows are also physically screwed from the outside with screws and therefore cannot open at all. The entire unit was then under the smoke and it was a very bad experience and a definite health hazard at that stage. We had to sit for hours with the front door open to wait for the smoke to clear to the point where we could sleep. The wood was not wet bought it from Gariep Supermarket. Not a good experience at all.
Oom Johan made the stay despite the power outages etc. many thanks.
Host was friendly and showed us around nicely and the beds were comfortable, but that's about where it ends. Problems with cold water pressure together with borehole water make you not want to drink tap water. For a self-catering unit, there is a lot missing in the rooms if you would like to cook. Expected better. After a long day of driving, you also don't want to hear that there is no hot water, because the solar geyser couldn't work because it was cloudy. Know that this probably doesn't happen much at Gariep, but for days like this an electric geyser would be handy.
Picture misleading. We thought only we would have access, not the case.
Cannot recommend. It was like living in a sixties movie.
Photos can be very deceiving. The place was clean and tidy. The window cannot open because it is screwed shut. Air conditioner not working. The front door cannot open so there is no fresh air to circulate through the place. It is stuffy and very hot in the summer. The double bed is such that sleeping on the ground is a better option.
Fly problem, please sit down. Doom and flies down. Also neat and clean. Parking big problem.
The reception was not professional. Our impression was that Gariep Gardens was not aware of our stay. The water system in the bathroom is not working. The air conditioner is not pleasant. It makes a terrible noise. The bathroom is far from the room. Floor mats appear to be dirty. We will definitely not stay at Gariep again or recommend it.
Warm and professional welcome. Our unit was spacious, the beds were comfortable and the unit had everything we needed. Our unit was also close to everything and although we were only there for one night, we will definitely be going there for longer.
Was warmly welcomed and shown where everything is. It's a nice place to stay overnight and good value for money. Will stop there again.
Very affordable, tidy accommodation for the weary traveller.
All that bothered us was when we got neighbors. Problem was we heard every word they spoke. It was a problem for one's privacy. Furthermore 100%.
The only problem is the hot water. But as the caretaker told us, they are still busy fixing the places. Furthermore, it is beautiful. Friendly reception.
Reception was very friendly and helpful. He explained all the roads to us as well as where we could find a restaurant. It is really very pleasant accommodation for two people. There is air-conditioning and extra blankets for colder weather. The kitchen is well equipped with a two-plate stove, a mini oven, microwave and a big fridge. Would love to stay there a few days more, because it is quiet and peaceful with a braai in front of the door.
Very neat place for an overnight stay. Small, but comfortably furnished and spotlessly clean.
Very neat and clean place to stay for a weekend getaway. Many considerate people who welcome you when you arrive.
We enjoyed our stay here. Neat and clean and safe parking.
Thank you very much for your kindness.
But the pool was too small, it was for small kids.
What a lovely visit! We were well received, well shown around and thoroughly enjoyed our 5 nights! Our unit had an indoor barbecue which was an absolute treat! Unit was spacious, very tidy and well equipped! We were surprised with new bedding and towels in the middle of our stay! Only comment: If I had known our unit had a DVD player I would have packed a few movies for the nice cold evenings! I was indeed unaware of that luxury. Will definitely be staying there again if we pass/go to Gariep!
The unit was exceptionally clean and tidy. It's definitely good value for money. Johan is the right person for the job and immediately makes you feel welcome.
It was nice staying there, enough water, actually everything we needed was there. The only thing was is that there weren't enough towels.
Well looked after, spacious and neat unit.
The place is clean both outside and inside. We had a very good welcome by Johan who was on time to receive us and took us to the place to show us everything in it. Very clean and welcoming. Nonetheless, I was not happy with the TV set, it was too small and an old box type. The facility needs to improve on that to make guests' stay more comfortable.
Our unit was spacious, very clean and super well-equipped, we even got a private little garden where to braai. The owner and the host are super friendly and we felt very welcome.
Thank you Johan for your kindness in meeting us at the gas station. Friendly reception. Gariep Gardens is clean, tidy and comfortable. It is more than suitable for our purposes as a one night stopover. The solar geyser provided more than enough hot water for the 3 of us to take a nice hot shower. We sat outside and enjoyed the silence and the stars.
It was a lovely, peaceful stopover with very friendly reception and conversations with Koos. We will definitely do it again.
Although it doesn't look so good from the outside, the place is surprisingly neat and has everything you need.
We had a peaceful, quiet, neat and clean stay.
See stars.
A comfortable overnight stay with good value for money. Pity the windows were screwed shut forcing reliance on the air-con.
Johan gave us a friendly reception at the house. The house was clean and well equipped.
We were received very kindly. There was no pool as in the photo at our unit, we were not informed if there was a pool to use. The sliding door to the bathroom could barely open and close. The power was a big problem. By 22:00 the power is off, not due to Not Eskom. We tried repeatedly to connect it to the DB board. Because of of no power, there was no fan/air conditioning and no hot water to shower or early next morning to boil water for coffee. Throughout the evening between 01:00 and 02:00 there was behind our unit people, could hear voices and footsteps, digging through the rubbish bags. Got very little sleep after a long drive and very tired for a 2nd shift on the road.
See stars.
Allies just ready for the night with a bed that doesn't want to wake you up.
Bed was comfortable, shower was hot. Only concern for us was the aircon is noisy.
The accommodation was neat. Unfortunately the staff didn't make sure the hot water system was on and the water was cold the next morning. Turned the system on and off myself which then fixed it.
Beds not in good condition, especially in the patio room, almost impossible to sleep there. We found a dirty braai dish in the cupboard and ants are a big problem.
Although old, everything was in working order. The shower's hot water barely dripped which makes it unpleasant in cold weather.
Very basic, no fridge, oven/stove out of order, photos on website are misleading, will not stay there again.
Our pillowcases were very dirty, there were too few glasses for the number of guests who could stay there. Tiles by pool are broken and have sharp points sticking out. Our child cut his foot open. The house/roof cracks when the wind blows just a little. The house feels very cold and unwelcoming.
Unit was neat and clean. Unfortunately no curtains in front of large window at entrance. Solar geyser inefficient. No DStv to watch World Cup rugby. Price is too high for what you get.
The power was out for 2 days in Gariep before our arrival. I only received a text message on the day of our arrival saying that there was a power failure in Gariep and that it was not sure when the power would come again. Upon arrival, Johan informed us that it would be days before the power would be back on. Due to the power outage there was also no water! We had a group of youngsters for neighbours who made a lot of noise. There was no site supervision.
There is not enough hot water for 2 people to shower.
The unit uses solar to heat the water. It rained all day and there was no hot water. I don't understand that the website can support such a unit.
Neatly furnished house.
Warm welcome, clean and well equipped and secure unit.
We were a group of 8 people, 3 of which were blind, and 2 guide dogs. The house is well equipped for blind people and there was no problem with the dogs. Everyone had a great time and was sad to leave. The blind aunties are definitely going to put you on the Blind Association for future blind travelers. Many thanks from all of us.
Very good value for money, particularly neat, slept well, clean dishcloths!
Comfortable place in beautiful surroundings. Just what you need for an overnight stay. Friendly people take you to the overnight destination from the entrance to the residential area. Everything smooth.
It is a very simple place with everything one needs.
The accommodation was very clean and tidy. Enough space outside for children to play and for family to barbecue and socialize outside. Kitchen was well equipped with everything needed. Only one suggestion: As there can sleep 8 people, a bigger table can be installed in the kitchen where everyone can sit and eat. There is enough space for that. Other than that, everything was great.
Our stay was very pleasant. Johan was very friendly and spared no effort to welcome us. We will definitely use Gariep Gardens again to sleep over. Just one suggestion: A light outside by the braai would have been just the crowning touch.
Professional and friendly service all round.
We really should have stayed longer, the place was exceptionally clean and very very child friendly. The splash pool was fun and super relaxing after a long drive. Johan was lovely, friendly and very professional. Thank you for making our trip back to Cape Town just perfect!
Good and friendly stay.
Nice place to relax and rest. People very friendly. Thanks for a nice weekend.
We were warmly welcomed by Johan and his wife. On the contrary, they met us at a certain point and took us from there to Gariep Gardens. We immediately felt at home and the unit was exactly as we hoped. Comfortable, well equipped and private enough. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience the first night, but Johan and his wife were soon there to assist my friend and also simply called in the local clinic nurse to look after me. Thank you very much for the support. It did not go unnoticed! Hope we see you again soon.
Very neat and clean, electric blankets for the cold. Everything we needed for an overnight stay.
This is a most comfortable unit. Clean, well appointed and provided all which we needed. The pool facility is wonderful and the environment safe. I would recommend this facility.
Good value for money. Friendly reception.
The home meets all my needs for a pleasant, peaceful stay.
It was very neat, only the towels were a bit dirty, otherwise no problem.
Clean and tidy and spacious accommodation that we will use from now on when we travel to and from the Mossel Bay area.
Neat, lovely towels. More hanging space for towels in bathroom would be welcome, unit actually for 2 people. Bathroom too small to get dressed too.
Very friendly host who responded immediately when we arrived. The unit was very neat, clean and had something of everything one needs to sleep over. I slept very well, thank you very much.
The splash pool was a winner!
Reception in Gariep was very good. Cottage was neat and clean.
We were kindly received and well received. The unit was clean and comfortable. The room was nice and warm because the heater. Just a pity we had to shower in cold water.
It was a peaceful place to spend the night.
Gariep Gardens has an ideal person to receive guests and make them feel at home. He answered all our questions and pointed out and recommended places. The accommodation is clean, tidy and ideal for two people and properly equipped. Due to the fact that the bathroom does not get fresh air, I would recommend an exhaust fan in there! We were also lucky enough to get 30% off, which made it really cheap! I would recommend this accommodation to friends anytime. We enjoyed it very much.
Excellent reception. Johan came to meet us in town and accompanied us to our accommodation. Shower and bathroom a bit neat but clean and tidy.
Everything was nice and clean. Had a pleasant stay.
After a long journey it was a welcome rest. Air conditioning was a breeze. Reception was professional and friendly.
Nice clean. Nice warm beds with electric blankets. Friendly welcome from Johan. Very helpful. Will visit again.
Convenient accommodation halfway between Johannesburg and Mossel Bay. Neat and clean with everythng you need for overnight accommodation. Peaceful environment and safety are the most important features.
Was kindly welcomed, with the necessary cold water and ice in the freezer. Water was hot for showering and we could cool off ourselves in a lifelike 'splash pool'.
Very friendly service and reception.
Received cordially and on time by Johan. Explained everything well as well as the checkout procedure. Place was well equipped for our 7 people and everything worked. Thank you.
Accommodation is comfortable and spacious but a bit stuck in the 90s. The unit we were in borders another unit with a dry wall, so you hear your neighbors clearly.
Our accommodation was clean, spacious and very tidy and well equipped! Had a nice stay and rate was also very acceptable and affordable! Would recommend it!
Shower pressure very weak. Other than that, had a nice stay.
Gariep gardens is nothing fancy, but perfect for an overnight stop. Place was nice clean and tidy.
See stars.
The time allowed for hot water when showering is far too short, not a pleasant experience to shower with cold water. The geyser is just too small.
Very neat with fast service.
Air-conditioning in the main bedroom was a pleasant extra. Guest house is close to the shops and the Gariep resort.
Friendly welcome, everything you need and very clean.
It is very clean and tidy for a one night stay.
Just look at locking gates more security for vehicles outside and access from the street.
For a cost effective stop-over en route to Cape Town or the reverse, it completely met our needs.
Apartment was very neat and clean and would recommend it anytime.
Very friendly reception by Johan. Room was clean, tidy and well equipped. Milk cup in kitchen, small bar of soap and air freshener in bathroom would have been of value.
We had a great stay, even though it was just the night, but the place is well-appointed for an overnight stay. Shower could do with a new head and the kitchen needs blinds. Solid overnight accommodation.
Had no heater and it was cold.
Rest is what's needed when you're riding long distances for the day, which is usually the case when you stop at Gariepdam. With the poor quality bed we had, we were already awake at 02:00 in the morning. Our bodies were sore and tired lying on the unsupportive bed. And then you roll to the middle as lying down. My suggestion is that the room should be locked until the bed is replaced with something decent. My request was clear that we needed a firm bed for the night. No attention or feedback was given on the request. This place drags Gariepdam's name through the mud, just to pocket a few rand.
Rested in a very short time. Will definitely visit again.
We chose Gariep Dam area because it is halfway between Gauteng and the Cape and that was a wise decision. The accommodation in the town is just not as comfortable as we are used to. The house was spacious enough and neat. It is an asbestos building and therefore becomes very hot, but there was one room with an air-con. The television has a channel service that we do not know but we could at least entertain our younger daughter with it. There isn't good security and the town gets very dark at night.
Everything was perfect, except the bedrooms did not have the keys please make sure that the keys are there.
Although you are cautioned about the stability of the solar heating system to my mind it is inefficient. I could not have a warm shower before leaving on the next leg of our trip.
We had a warm welcome but we were dissapointed in the place. The lounge suit is very uncomfortable and the curtains and tiles very outdated. Although we saved on the accommodation I feel that if they want to charge R1400 + normal rate the place should at least be comfortable. The photos on the website doesn't look like the place we stayed in.
No reception on arrival and no indication of what to do to gain access to accommodation - had to call someone to come and unlock for us. Amenities very basic and old.
Hear everything guests in the next room are doing. Bed laid out like a boat. Bathroom not clean, tiles and ceiling full of algae.
The stay was pleasant!
It's too far from the highway and we didn't have safe parking.
The unit is a pre fab building on somebody's back yard. It's one building divided into units. When the neighbours enter or leave it makes quite a noise. The ablution is so small that you can't use it without leaving the door open. The soap dish is in the middle of the sink so your head hits it when you bend down to use the sink. The fridge wobbles. I fixed it myself without much effort. Parking was in the mud and there was no proper mat outside on which to wipe your shoes.
I didn't even stay at Gariep Gardens, was at some place called Rose Cottage to my surprise. So I wouldn't go back to that place.
We were placed in a unit that was advertised as a 2 sleeper unit. There are 4 of us. We are in an oblong asbestos room. Definitely not 4 star. There is not even a closet for clothes. The beds are made. Furthermore, there was not even enough hot water for 1 person to take a shower. There was only 1 roll of toilet paper.
No hot water. No braai facilities. Bedding dirty and wrinkled. Advertisement not at all like actual picture. Reception not warm at all, actually unsuitable.
Enjoyed our stay in Gariep Gardens. Very comfortable and beautiful. Very homely! I just love it.
The place is very neat and clean with everything you need. Very peaceful environment and ideal place to spend the night on the way to the Cape. Very affordable and value for money.
See star rating.
It's well equipped and we just wanted to spend the night. There is a TV but there are so few channels on it, there really couldn't have been a TV. But we just wanted to spend the night so it didn't matter. Nice braai place behind the house.
We had a great time staying at Gariep Gardens. Johan met us and showed us everything. The unit was very cute and fully equipped. Would definitely recommend it.
Already spent the night at this comfortable home three times. The house meets all my needs; very comfortable bed, spacious bathroom with shower facilities, fully equipped kitchen and indoor and outdoor barbecue facilities. Host Johan did everything in his power to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
Johan quickly made us feel at home.
Reception was friendly and professional by Johan.
We felt at home and very safe. There is peace of mind even with regards to the safety of the vehicle.
The stay at Gariep Gardens was exactly what a family of 5 needed. Unit was neat and clean and everything we needed was at our disposal.
Next time we will definitely stay longer to experience the surroundings and the dam.
After a long trip, we were able to have a nice break in a clean unit. Best hospitality. Very convenient and everything is there to prepare a nice meal.
We actually arrived just after 10 pm due to a tyre puncture, but the owner waited for us at a nearby garage and drove us to the place, showed us around. Was comfortable cottage. Pity we didn't have time to explore the place.
Warm welcoming, quite neighbourhood, clean. Everything you need is available.
Very friendly reception.
Disappointed with the absence of a shower, which had not been declared before time.
Advance communication via email and text was good. The accommodation (consisting of a sleeping area with double bed and single bed; a smart kitchen-living area; and a smart bathroom area with toilet, sink and shower) was very suitable as an overnight stop. Provision was made for all the basic needs (kitchen with sink, fridge, two-plate stove, microwave, kettle and enough power points; TV with the basic channels and OVHD; and air conditioning), as well as outdoor grill and chairs. The following are recommendations: - Install YALE lock at door; so that the door can be closed when leaving, without concern that something might disappear from the house (theft is apparently not an issue at the moment, but there is always a first time; - There was insufficient hot water (after my wife spent 3 - 4 minutes showered for a long time, there was no hot water); Electric geyser is insufficient (or there is some other technical problem); - Suggest that some 'brackets' be installed in the kitchen (where do you hang the wet towel?)
Everything is there that one needs. Would just like to have more sports and Afrikaans on TV.
We were very lucky to be able to get it at the 50% discount, but the service and accommodation was not 50% off, it was still 100%. Johan came to pick us up and made sure our vehicle was safe and everything was in order. The next day after we left he called again to make sure everything was ok. Will use them again.
Reception was good, we were met on the way and the operation of everything in the house was explained to us.
Rose Cottage is clean and neat, and well equipped with an indoor braai and spacious kitchen. Crisp linen and clean. Bigger towels would have bee nice.
As mentioned above we are very satisfied and had a great time.
Entry to accommodation unsafe.
Reception was very friendly and helpful.
Very friendly service from Johan. Good value for money. Clean and tidy.
At price paid it is value for money.
Ok for a stop over at Gariep Dam.
The accommodation is spacious enough and very clean and tidy. The bed linen is of good quality and the bed very comfortable. Despite the drought, the garden is well maintained.
There can be fresh milk instead of powdered milk. We felt that it was quite expensive for what was offered in terms of location. Compared price with that of Hotel, and will spend the night there instead next time.
It's temporary housing, so the feeling is not the same as a permanent construction. Neat inside, but cramped as mentioned. Outside, the minimum was done, although I'd like to believe it was quiet and safe, I couldn't help but worry a little during the night about my car, the contents and the open yard.
See the stars.
Initially told we were double booked and put into a one room place (for a family of 5 with 3 small children). Changed to our booked unit when I made a fuss. Geyser only put on when we arrived so no hot water until the following morning. Disappointing and would not stay there again.
Not all equipment was in working order, and toilet was blocked.
The manger and the house owner also had words with each other when we went to the unit. I will definitely not go back and did not feel save at all. I will not recommend this place to anyone. On the website it looked like a nice units in beautiful gardens, but we got a place behind someone's house. The people were rude and we did not feel safe. I am so glad we only had to stay there for 1 night.
Very friendly reception. The accommodation is very neat and well located and safe. The guesthouse is ideal for a lovely getaway, because it is very well equipped. Would like to stay there again and we can recommend it.
Very nicely looked after as well as built, love the high quality wood finish that is not painted white. Called as recommended and driver is already at the location. Gave good advice where to eat etc. Please let people know that eateries close quite early (9pm). Bring your own food if you want to eat later than that! We were just in time to eat at the hotel; also very nice. Also bring a camera and a good lens to capture the moon over the pond, even the pond itself, in the evening!
Would definitely recommend the stay.
Would recommend the place. That's great for such a small town.
Thank you very much, we had a good night's rest. Would just like them to put in some more ceiling fans. The place is a bit hot and stuffy.
The accommodation is very well equipped.
Perfect for overnight stay (can't see the pond). Shower only but very entertaining toilet and description! Very convenient indoor grill. Bed felt like it might be a bit hollow towards the middle. Value for money.
Parking with a fairly large vehicle and trailer is a problem. This should be highlighted at time of booking.
Had a very nice stay. However, the DStv channels are not Afrikaans-friendly at all.
See the stars.
The car was not behind a locked gate and the walls were paper thin. We could hear everything our neighbours were up to, really awkward. It was almost as if the neighbours were with us in the room. The person we were supposed to meet, Ronnie, wasn't there, despite the fact that we gave him a call 20 minutes beforehand.
The walls between the two guest houses are too thin. you can hear the neighbours snoring. No entertainment as advertised by Gariep, eg the boot trip.
It was nice to see for the first time the dam everyone is talking about. The house was neat and spacious and the garden was exceptionally beautiful.
Need more TV entertainment and braai area for longer stay.
Please see the stars.
The online ad for the unit is misleading. Wouldn't recommend or stay there again. The service and help was excellent.
Gariep Gardens is good enough for overnight stays, the curtains need a good wash and a gate to lock the vehicles would help for more peace of mind.
False perception on online view. Aesthetic appearance not as expected on online advertisement. Should a picture from outside appearance be on the website I would have reconsider to make a booking.
Didn't even sleep over.
For the price, the location is not adequate. It's really clean and tidy but the decor is very old. Limited TV channels. Some of the advertising photos are misleading.
I've really stayed over in a lot of nice places and I'm really disappointed in the quality of tGariep Garden's accommodation. The place was neat and clean, but not on standard and definitely not located well. I don't recommend it.
The internet is misleading. The rooms we were assigned did not look remotely like those on the internet. We did not even stay and decided to forfeit the money that we paid upfront. The guesthouse does not overlook the dam.
I shall never stay at Gariep Gardens again.
Everything you would expect from a self-catering unit. Spacious and clean. Beautiful garden to sit and watch the birds and have sundowners. Although we were only there for a day and a night it is also perfect for a longer stay.
We felt very welcome and safe. The place is really well looked after and it was very peaceful. Definitely value for money.
A gem conveniently located on the N1. Unit Rieder 18 is fully equipped and lacks nothing. Ideal for travelers from Gauteng on their way to the Garden Route. It is exactly halfway between Pretoria and Plettenberg Bay. After two visits I will definitely consider the unit again in the future.
Will go back again one day and will definitely recommend.
Fully equipped. Neat and clean. Value for money.
Beautiful and clean, big and cool. The black tiles and pure white bedding were just a delight. Sorry our stay was so short.
Pleasant experience.
First of all, we were very impressed with every facet of LekkeSlaap's service. Secondly, we were pleasantly surprised with the neat, comfortable and clean accommodation. We are sorry that we could only stay one night!
We stayed in Ting Tinkie for one night. The place still looks relatively new and is very tidy. The unit is well equipped. There is also a neat braai area at the back which is very private. There is a TV with certain DStv channels. There is parking behind gates that can close. I would be able to recommend the place to anyone who wants to be calm after a long journey.
See the stars.
Nicely clean on arrival and after that no effort was made to service bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. No person entered. Don't even come to make sure everything is still okay.
Photos and advertisement of Gariep Gardens are misleading. The photos of the view of the dam are used in advertising, but the dam cannot be seen at all. DStv is mentioned but not switched on. (So no DStv). Garden looks nice in photos but not at all the same picture there. Just mention it for positive comments.
Looks like you have a view of the dam, but that's not the case at all.
It's okay for one night's stay and if there is nothing else left to choose from, but wouldn't stay there for a few days.
We were the only people on site and the building planning was not well laid out. Also felt like garden and pool hadn't been maintained for a while, the pool was empty. I asked if my vehicle would be behind a gate. Feedback was that it is behind a gate, but it was not locked. It was untrue, there is a gate, but it's open on the other side (no gate or wall) for anyone to walk in and do whatever they want around the building. There were only two of us on the entire site and even if it was a safe environment (which we don't think it is) we would be terrified. Then we decided to look for another place that was not much more expensive, the hotel was excellent and we are very disappointed with Gariep Gardens. I wouldn't ever recommend the place, but that's just my experience.
