503 guests' feedbackNeat and clean. Friendly staff.
We had a nice stay. It is very convenient because it is right next to the N1. We don't have to go too far off our route to stay with them. It was clean and tidy. The braai area is a plus.
Very neatly and efficiently furnished!
We thought it good for just an overnighter, but would have loved to stay longer. We did not want to leave. It was wonderful, clean and neat! Will sleep there again. More than one night.
Beautiful place and nice and big, everything you need for a halfway stopover place. Would definitely recommend!
We only stayed there one night, but what a cute place. Will stay there again for sure. The children enjoyed it immensely.
Hostess was very friendly. Had a great sleep over. Would really recommend it. Just put on a night light my father is 89 years old, to walk to the bathroom.
Clean, safe and perfectly furnished chalet for stopover between Gauteng and Cape Provinces. Close to highway. Excellent customer service.
Very comfortable and value for money. Animal friendly.
My dogs had their own private lawn.
We had a very nice stay.
Had a great stay, will have to stay longer next time.
Yes, very nice, thank you.
Yes, thank you, easy to get the accommodation for us 2 single ladies.
Always a great place to stay.
Love this place! Thank you!
Lovely comfortable overnight stay near N1.
The sausage is delicious.
It was a good value for money overnight stop. However, the fridge did not work. Great barbecue, but an outside light would make it even better.
There isn't really anything wrong with the place. Neat and clean and a nice hot shower. But I have never slept so cold in my life. Maybe it's better in the summer. We specially took small electrical bags with us, but there is nowhere to plug them in. Make no mistake, the noise from the trucks on the N1 didn't stop all night.
Had a great sleep. Rain and cool weather was definitely a bonus.
We slept over one night on our journey from the Eastern Transvaal to the Cape. Simple and clean accommodation with a small farm atmosphere.
The chalet was clean, spacious, comfortable, everything needed for self-catering is there.
Very nice stay. The chalets just smelled of smoke.
Overnight stay, but very relaxing.
It is an ideal place for one night's sleepover. Everything was very neat and clean.
Only unhappiness, our fridge didn't work at all. Upon arrival we were informed, with no solution. We relied on the facility because we were driving with meat/fresh produce and had to go another 7 hours to our destination the next day. We feel they should have provided alternative facility. An excuse of "we're on a farm" just didn't do it for us.
We slept well. We always bring our own blankets and pillows. The chalet was just damn cold when you get up at night and go to the toilet, which happens quite a lot with us old people. I recommend it to our friends for the warmer part of the year.
The unit offers only the necessary for overnight accommodation and would recommend it to the non-picky visitor. Will book again when we need to go the long way.
The cottages are ideal for overnight stays and meet the needs. Was nice and warm than expected and will book it again.
Accommodation was clean and well kept, had everything we needed. Property has lots of character. Burglar proofing on the windows (though not fully) and houses aren't enclosed with a sturdy fence. We enjoyed our stay!
It was incredibly peaceful - we grilled delicious meat and watched the beautiful Karoon sunset.
Very nice stay. Clean and tidy. All that is needed after the long road. The children and our dog had fun playing in the plains.
It was a comfortable stay for us to rest and recover, traveling from Cape Town to Johannesburg. It was pet friendly and the amenities provided were adequate.
Clean, comfortable, and hot water.
Thank you, very cold and water was frozen in the morning. Couldn't bathe or start then.
The accommodation is functional, clean and tidy and has everything needed for an overnight stay. The location is quite close to the main road, but the noise of the vehicles is not too disturbing. Pet friendly if arranged in advance and for us it was a nice break from our journey between the Cape and Gauteng.
Nice overnight place in the Karoo.
Shower facilities are not suitable for old people. My mother couldn't take a shower. Bath is dangerous to get in and out of.
Ideally place for an overnight stay and we love the farm noises.
For that money per night you can surely get at least 1x roll of toilet paper? What a shock we had nothing with us!
It is a very good distance for an overnight stay to and from the Cape. Everything was fine and good value for money. Thank you very much.
The place is well located and very peaceful. You don't need anything more than that for one night's sleepover.
Clean beds, hot water. Comfortable overnight place.
Well situated, neat, and has everything you need.
I have stayed over for more than five times and will stay over again. The new windbreaker put up at the braai area makes a big difference.
Gariep N1 Chalets are neat and well located (within sight of the N1). The units are well equipped for an overnight stop in the Karoo. The price you pay is fair compared to the amenities that are made available. (No TV or wifi available).
The only downside, the tap in the kitchen sink was wobbly and it is a bit old-fashioned.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gariep N1. Martha was very attentive and welcomed us with a smile. The cottage was spotless and cosy and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We will certainly recommend your cottages and will certainly stay again when we are travelling this route again. Unfortunately, our freezer was already stocked up with meat otherwise we would have definitely bought from the farm. Next time we will know better.
The accommodation is simple, but practical and comfortable.
Very nice close to N1.
Will definitely stay there again. A jewel in the Karoo.
Hospitably received. Will definitely stay here again.
Beautiful setting halfway between the Western Cape and Johannesburg. Close to main route. Nice braai facilities. Most beautiful stars.
Very nice with a nice view.
Martha received us kindly, the place was neat and clean. We considered Gariep N1 just as a sleepover opportunity, but our place was very private, and the surroundings are beautiful. So as some of the cheaper options it was definitely worth the money.
Gariep N1 Chalets are small, but cutely furnished. Perfect for overnight stays. It was beautiful and clean with everything we needed.
Two chalets offer a peaceful farm location.
Very cute place with the necessary for an overnight stay. We had a great time sitting on the porch.
Recommend to all travellers.
Well located, clean, safe and everything you need.
Very friendly and helpful reception. Perfectly priced for what you get. Clean, tidy and everything you need. The N1's traffic does not bother at all. I would suggest the carpet be taken out or maybe just washed - it has seen better days. The hot tap in the kitchen is loose and needs to be fixed. You must hold the spout when you turn on the tap. Lovely and peaceful - The beat-beat of the windmill's turn is beautiful and nostalgic. The Pepper trees (I think I got the name right) around the houses are lovely.
Everything was fine. Place so clean we couldn't even pick up sticks to start the fire. Highly recommended.
Gariep N1 Chalets are ideal for travelers especially with pets. It is right next to the N1 on a farm, where dogs can stretch their legs in safety after a long day's travel. The farm is peaceful and quiet and guarantees a good night's rest before the 2nd leg to/from the Cape. Good braai facilities to relax in front of the fire while admiring the Karoo sunset.
Was gone throughout the day. Excellent value for half way sleep over. Very convenient, everything worked. Would have liked to have received braai wood with package. The wind blew very badly for the 2 nights. Don't know if it's always like that. If this is the case, it would be good if they build a more solid wall around the barbecue area.
Directions are easy to follow. Reception was creative, super convenient. We got exactly what we paid for. Will book again.
Extra hanging space for clothes in the bathroom will be much more convenient. Furthermore, all the facilities are there for overnight stays.
Nice for a quick stopover on and off the N1.
This was exactly what we were looking for. Quickly off the main road and quickly back again to continue our journey.
Basic accommodation, clean and good value.
Comfort was very important and it was. Braai area was a little small, but was sufficient although no wood was supplied. A very tranquil stay.
I would have appreciated an electric blanket or heater in the cold Karoo!
Location great. Clean and comfortable.
Easily accessible to sleep over on the long road.
Friendly service.
Was worried at first about the place being so close to the road, but it wasn't a problem at all. Didn't hear the traffic. Nice and quiet, everything you need for a place to sleep. Everything was neat and clean. Karoo lamb roast packets were off the books. Will definitely stay again in the future.
No problem encountered.
Very pleasant. Had everything we needed.
N1 Chalets was clean, beds were comfortable, in short, well worth it for an overnight stay.
The cottage has everything you need for an overnight stay, ideal for a half-way rest to the Cape.
Very quiet and peaceful stay.
It's exactly what you need for a rest after a long day's travel.
Nice close to the highway. Nice braai facilities and wood.
A pleasant place to sleep over. Neat, comfortable and safe. Close enough to the N1 to see the cars but surprisingly quiet, we couldn't hear the traffic at all. The beds were comfortable and the chalet had everything we needed to spend the evening. It was nice to have the chickens and sheep as part of the decor. Will stay over again.
It was the perfect overnight stop along the long road. Children really enjoyed the farm.
They were happy with just the sleepover. They did not have the opportunity to view or enjoy the view, due to the late arrival and very early departure.
It's already the second time I've spent the night here and I will definitely stay again. It is very close to the N1, but the traffic does not bother you at all at night and it is always small, clean and well equipped. I can definitely recommend it.
Very clean and everything needed for an overnight stay is there. Staff, friendly and helpful will look no further for an overnight stay if we go to the Transvaal.
Very close to the main road, so there is road noise. The view over the Karoo and the sounds of the farm, such as show chickens are unique.
Very well equipped for overnight self-catering accommodation. The place has no luxuries, but hand soaps, shampoo and coffee and sugar are always welcome. It is ideal if you just want to sleep over.
Cute place for overnight. The chalets have everything needed for an overnight stay.
The young people were concerned and along the way invited us to come and watch rugby together at the farmhouse. Thank you Albertus, you are top young people.
After 600 km of driving, it is a welcome resting place to take a breath and recharge for the next half of the journey.
This really is a hidden gem right off the N1. Such a comfortable, affordable place to sleep. We slept well and could start the road to Pretoria the next morning refreshed. Very well equipped with everything you need for an overnight stay. Bonus. The owner sells the most delicious dry sausage and lamb.
My family drove very far and really enjoyed the place. They could rest well.
Will definitely stay there again.
Small chalet, but clean and tidy just right for accommodation for overnight travellers.
We felt safe, in a friendly, neat environment and would recommend this unit to all our friends, family.
We will definitely stay there again. Value for money.
Very easy to find, neat, clean and value for money.
Our overnight stop between KZN and the Cape. Location is good and easily accessible. We didn't do much except eat and sleep and for that the place was well equipped and sufficient. You would think the N1 would bother you because it is so close but you hardly hear it. Thanks it was good.
Can they please just put better chairs in the bedroom. The current ones are uncomfortable and one cannot sit on them.
Everything was very nice, thank you very much.
Clean, basic accommodation, close to N1. Traffic noise was not intrusive. Perfect for an overnighter.
Close to the N1. Road from N1 to the cottages is okay. Can buy firewood there. They are looked after very carefully. Thank you very much, Bets.
Close to the N1. Road from N1 to the cottages is okay. Can buy firewood there. They are looked after very carefully. Thank you very much.
Perfect place for an overnight stop on the way somewhere.
Positive: Personal welcome. For latecomers, guests' names and cottage numbers are on a board at the entrance. Nice farm atmosphere. Bath and double bed (essential if you've been married for 50 years). Good mobile phone and 3G data reception (talk pole within sight). Houses are spacious and not on top of each other. Nice barbecue place. Recommendation: Thank you for the safety lights. Essential for the times we live in. The blinds in the kitchen are not sufficient to keep the light out. Maybe a light block curtain instead?
Even though the N1 is less than a kilometer away you are far enough not to hear the engine noise. The beds were comfortable. Bedding and towels were supplied. Even though the outside temperature went below 6 degrees, the inside was cosy. Wood was available to buy. The braai was clean including the available braai stand and grid. The concrete dam water was crystal clear (maybe due to the chlorine floater) but due to the outside cool temperatures, we didn't swim. Hot water was always available for either a shower or bath. Basic kitchen items, including fridge, microwave, and kettle, were available. Lovely photo opportunities for both sunrise and sunset landscapes. Stars at night are magnificent (we were fortunate enough to have a clear sky).
Surprisingly quiet so close to the N1. Especially nice if you're traveling with pets.
Neat and clean. Lovely unit that is well equipped.
Comfortable to stay overnight, very clean and tidy.
Comfortable and neat overnight accommodation that offers everything you could need. Just remember to pack wood or charcoal if you might want to grill something.
Had a great stay and will stay with them again.
Perfect stopover for the long drive between the Cape and Gauteng. The tools were clean and tidy. We will spend the night there again.
Private, nice braai area with porch, farm feel with chickens scrambling and roaming around on the yard.
Beds sleep great.
Great location, very easy stopover, clean ans comfortable, all that you need.
Small, practical and a quick stopover along the highway.
Location excellent, can see improvements have been made recently.
The chalets are very convenient just off the N1 motorway. The units are standard and just right for a quick sleepover. The host of the farm is very friendly and we were certainly well rested for the long road ahead.
Gariep N1 Chalets are easily accessible from N1 ideal if you are just looking for a place to rest and travel on next morning. Quiet and peaceful environment.
Beautiful views of the surrounding area. For overnight accommodation it is more than adequate. Unfortunately all the wall plugs and fan didn't work.
Cute little places, but the location just a bit wrong with all the noise from the highway.
Clean and tidy. Close to N1. Easily accessible.
Peaceful, neat, pleasant surroundings.
It rained the night but would like to grill some meat in the fresh evening air.
Good for 1 night, not longer. Beds are quite small for adults and couples. Lovely surrounding for walks after long day drive.
Beds were extremely uncomfortable. Many people have complained about it.
Conveniently close to the N1 making it an ideal stopover.
Access to the bathroom and the kitchen is from the master bedroom. The fridge is in the other bedroom. The dining table is on the covered porch, which can be a problem with bad wind e.g.
No frills, easy in and out, comfortable.
See stars.
It's simple accommodation with all the basic necessities for an overnight stop.
Tranquility there is very good for the soul.
Be aware of the road noise from the N1. However, this did not bother us during our sleep. Consideration may be given to adding a permanent shower.
We slept well on the way to Jeffreys Bay. Just sorry about the birds sleeping on the ceiling - please pay attention to them.
Would recommend they put a light or candles in the unit. We were there with loadshedding and candles or a light were needed.
Suggestions: The unit needs some updating. Bedding is old, ceiling fan does not work, braai could be renewed a bit. Ceiling in the room is coming loose. The sharp light (floodlight) that shines into the unit is inconvenient. It is a place with a lot of potential but is very primitive compared to other places.
Good place to stay the night.
The units are located on the Free State plain. There had been no heater in the unit and units have no air conditioning. Location is central very close to N1. I think there are better accommodations for the price. I will not stay there again.
No heater. No TV.
Perfect for when you've been on the road all day and you're just looking for a place to stay the night.
Only one problem, the mattresses were not of the best quality and needs to be replaced.
The accommodation was very comfortable. Some of the equipment did not work e.g. fans.
It was a comfortable overnight stay near Gariepdam.
Thanks for a good night's rest. Me and my 2 dogs slept over on the way to the Western Cape. The unit is spacious, neat, and comfortable for overnight sleeping. Even though you might hear the vehicles, it doesn't bother you, beautiful cups and sun bag, farm feeling with farm animals. Very convenient on your way. The guest helpers are friendly and helpful.
True farm style living.
Very nice stop between the Cape and Johannesburg. Safe, spacious and clean. Very nice please. A farm pond will be lovely on a hot day. Quickly back on the main road on the way out.
Only water was a problem, but managed.
We enjoyed the peace and quiet after a long drive. It was clean and equipped with everything you need for self-catering. Friendly and helpful staff.
Very nice, unfortunately far from everything, especially if you are looking for basic things like milk and bread, but otherwise very nice.
Has everything one needs and is lovely to rest there after a long journey.
For people who want to stay a little secluded, quiet and alone.
Everything you need for a sleepover, without the tiger lanyards. Remember to pack coals and some meat because here you can have a quiet barbecue and experience the Karoo.
Sit back and relax by the braai fire and a nice place to cool off by the farm dam.
Will stay there again and again on my way to Cape or PE.
Just overnight to the Cape.
The only thing that needs to be done is to provide a plug for the basin.
The only criticism is that the drain was blocked.
Felt like a home farm style.
Very quiet, plenty of parking, friendly service.
Great place to stay on the way to Cape Town or Port Elizabeth.
A great place, with great facilities for a quick over nice stop.
Thank you very much for your hospitality and for meeting all our needs.
Gariep N1 Chalets is a very nice place to stay and I will definitely use it again.
Was very nice and clean and everything you need for an overnight stay was there. Will stay there again!
Neat self-catering unit with lovely spacious equipped rooms. Along the main road, you don't hear the traffic.
A nice stop after a long trip.
It was a real farm experience! Enjoyed every moment of it!
Clean, tidy and an ideal place to stay close to the N1. Braai facilities are clean and you can buy wood, just arrange ahead of time. Buy your meat at the village before you get to your accommodation, otherwise it's a long way to drive back. Value for money and would definitely stay there again overnight or 2 nights just to relax.
We drove from PE just to break away with the dogs. We have not experienced any of the previous negative comments. Will do it again. Thanks Martha!
Perfect overnight stop. Quiet with a lovely view of the milky way, we could almost touch the stars.
Our family had a great time relaxing in a clean and tidy chalet and having a good barbecue.
Chalets, despite being pet friendly, are being kept clean and fresh.
We arrived late in the evening due to car problems, they were very helpful, the chalet was clean and tidy. It was a comfortable overnight stay.
Bets was awesome en baie behulpsaam. Het bobaas-ontbyt gehad die volgende oggend. Baie moeite was gedoen met die klein goedjies om dit lekker te maak. Sal weer terug wees.
It was very nice, everything we could want was available. No door in front of the 1 bedroom was the only negative point. Would have liked to make a big bonfire, but the weather did not allow it.
We arrived late, had a good rest and woke early to leave. It's a good quick place to breathe and refresh before getting back on the road.
Very neat and well furnished. Child friendly.
Quiet and enough, you don't need anything more if you just want to sleep over to make the long journey shorter.
Will definitely stay there again.
Clean, tidy place to sleep, at very reasonable rates.
Close to main road and convenient for overnight stay.
The N1 was very busy, but when you sleep you don't hear anything. Very nice bed, incredibly clean and tidy, friendly!
Slept well. The stoep sitting with nice sunset and sunrise is worth it.
Very conveniently located, quick to get on N1 the next morning and drive home. Very neat and clean, the beds are firm and the bedding clean. The kitchen is well equipped and very clean. Nice farm pond swim, always a winner after a long day on the road. The flashing foul-smelling light outside Chalet 1 disturbed my sleep. Instead of a peaceful Karoo farm sleep it felt like I was spending the night in a backstreet hotel with a flashing neon light outside the window.
We and our dogs felt very welcome. We had a lovely night's rest.
Very clean and comfortable.
A little too close to highway.
Only 2 things put me off. 1 - the cat (my son is allergic). 2 - the shower water that did not wash away.
Enjoyed our stay. Beautiful setting, good service and value for money.
Chalet is tidy, pet friendly and ideal for overnight stays. Unfortunately we were there on the coldest night of the winter, the wind was blowing, making it very difficult to barbecue. Would have been better if the barbecue facility was better sheltered from the cold wind. Despite enough blankets, we also slept a bit cold, I think the mattresses let the cold through from below. On the other hand, it was the ideal sleepover, nice and private, a nice family adventure and the price is very reasonable.
Basic accommodation, but definitely good value for money and friendly service. Very close to the N1, so expect the traffic noise.
All criticism: indicators should be installed at the exits.
Along the N1 a bit noisy with the trucks during the night. But the chalet is tidy, very well equipped and comfortable.
All facilities that one looks for in overnight accommodation.
Very nice farm feeling, close to the main road and you don't hear noise from the trucks and cars.
Accommodation is well located. Had a great barbecue in the evening and relaxed after a long drive. P.S. at chalet no 1 just look at the water drainage, something is blocked.
Accommodation is functional, clean and tidy. The double bed could do with a new mattress.
House 1. Unfortunately, there is a non-stop leak in the bathroom. The entire floor is soaking wet from time to time, even if you dry it up. Not very nice, especially if it is so cold during stay. The bedside lamp didn't work either, maybe the bulb just blew.
It's easy to reach, fast service, quiet, very affordable, maybe could upgrade safety.
The tub and shower piping system can only be looked at please, the water does not drain away.
Will use again in the future.
Reception can be improved. Towels were not in good condition.
See stars.
Nice close to the main road and easy to get to. Clean and tidy. Wood for braai is a bit expensive, but otherwise good value.
Neat house with friendly people.
But clean and comfortable.
Great for overnight stay between Cape Town and Gauteng. Lovely farm atmosphere and nice views and trees.
None of the sinks or the tub wanted to drain. The place was really clean and we felt safe there.
We spent two nights there in the barn, the first night was on the way to Hartenbos and the apartment was not very clean. The beds were dirty and the carpets were also dirty. There are no chairs for inside the house, one has to bring the chairs in from outside every time. The second time on the return stroke the house was much cleaner. The beds were neatly made and the carpets were clean. The one bathroom's light is very dim. The traffic on the N1 is sometimes annoying. But otherwise you get what you pay for. It's a nice overnight stay down to the Cape.
We sleep in an old house which has probably been converted from a storage. Very comfortable, but it lacks light and air.
Accommodation was well equipped for an overnight stay. Is conveniently located.
Very pleasant stay along the N1. Friendly reception. Chalet 1 has a problem with shower water draining very slowly and was already reported when I read previous feedbacks. Otherwise a good overnight stop.
No clear directions of where to go.
The cottage was freezing cold and no water in the morning due to frozen pipes. I really think there could be a can of water to at least just flush the toilet. Luckily we had extra water. It was a severe cold front but we feel that provision can be made. A heater would have been fantastic. In the summer months it will be nice but I can't recommend the cute place in winter.
No hot water early in the morning, had to knock person up to handle. One bedroom does not have a door on it. So not private. Can be easily fixed.
Convenient if you have to start again early in the morning.
The peaceful farm atmosphere is just what you need after a long day on the road.
Will stay there again.
Comfortable overnight stay, right by the N1. You can hear traffic at night. Only complaint, the place wasn't quite as clean.
Just tell guests in the winter to have enough water in containers for the next morning. Als was frozen when we wanted to finish driving.
Couldn't really enjoy a good night's rest, because busy traffic on N1. It was very clear that the bedding had not been changed since previous guests had slept there.
Chalets C1 need renovation. Shower water does not drain and even if the chalet is clean, the owner must definitely pay attention to the maintenance of the chalet.
In the current climate in SA we felt very unsafe. The house stands alone next to the highway. We do not know where the farmhouse is and there are no emergency numbers visible. No safety.
Rough entrance track a bit off-putting. Then, first impression neat but seemed rather third worldish. Lindiwe very welcoming, but didn't have access to office, so no credit card access! Chalet 100% clean with everything you need. N1 traffic is audible but not a problem. Beautiful air and view next morning with coffee.
I didn't expect much from the place, but it was worse than we thought it would be. We stayed in chalet no. 1 slept. Some knives and forks were oily, chairs on the porch were a bit rusty and some had holes in them. The bath's silicon on the edges had come loose and formed mold, and the bedroom's ceiling had a stain from rain that had leaked into the roof.
The kettle was so packed, I could scrape off the white stuff with a spoon. The sugar was full of ants. Please take considering that we stayed in Beaufort on the way to the Cape for the same price and got a thousand times better service.
Unfortunately not the farm experience it could have been.
Only bath towels for 4 people, we were 6. Luckily could use swimming towels we took with us. Looking out from kitchen when you open curtains is on workers washing and ironing, very dirty and messy. Just kept the curtains closed. View from 1 room is in a storage room with no ventilation. Just kept the curtains closed. Only 5 coffee cups for 6 people. Only 5 chairs, 1 chair was broken. Toilet was blocked, came to fix it but we realized in the evening that it was not right again. Holes in ceiling. Fridge not so effective but freezer worked. Unfortunately, we got the idea that the place is left in the hands of the 2 workers who live there.
Not all the rooms have power points, not enough fans, mosquitos eat you up.
Too expensive for what they offer. Location so ideal but would rather drive further.
The drainage of the bathroom sink, bathtub and kitchen sink is almost completely blocked. It is impossible to wash dishes. The sink in the bathroom juts out into the tub. The tub does not drain. It is not possible to rinse the bath clean before you bathe. We couldn't and didn't bathe. The cold and hot water at the bath is also very weak. One cannot pay for accommodation with a bathroom that does not work at all.
Main bedroom linen was stained. A single plastic chair in a house that can sleep six people. No lounge or lounge area was locked. One bedroom missing a door. Main bedroom via the other bedroom.
The photos and information of the place are very misleading. The place is right off the N1 with no security fencing around the farm, just a plain old fashioned farm gate. Didn't feel safe at all, not clean, plates weren't even clean and we had to wash them again. No tongs at all. We tried to call to find alternative accommodation but because it was already late in the afternoon we couldn't find one and if it wasn't for the curfew and the fact that we were so tired we would surely have driven back to PTA. The bedding is already old and battered. The bath and shower faucets do not work well, the table on the porch and chairs are very old and full of bird droppings. The ceiling fan doesn't even have a light shield around it and isn't a ceiling fan because it doesn't work! The carpets are full of dust and the place is hot and stuffy because you don't dare to open the windows during the night, firstly because you don't feel safe and secondly because the trucks that pass close to the place make so much noise. I certainly wouldn't even recommend the place to anyone. The cleaner had the audacity to put a box there with "TIP R50. 00" written on it - can you do more for such a dirty place! We first had to pay the remaining 50% before the Lindi lady took us to the unit and I can well understand why. I wouldn't have paid that if I first saw the place. The photo looks like farm accommodation and it refers to farm dam. The farm pond is located at the main house and not at the two chalets - and I definitely won't be swimming in it no matter how hot I get!
The cottages are not in good condition and need attention.
We were a little early for the check-in time, but were warmly welcomed by the staff. Room was ready and clean and everything we would need for an overnight stay was there. Thank you very much for that.
It is a very nice big place to stay, the bed was just very hard. And it is conveniently right next to N1.
Very clean and comfortable.
Would recommend this accommodation to our family and friends.
Will definitely stay there again.
See stars.
After a long day's driving, it is the ideal resting place. 7 km from service stations, shops and restaurants to choose from on Gariep Dam itself.
Very clean, tidy and friendly.
We loved the relaxing farm atmosphere after a long roadtrip.
After many years of driving past, and always looking at the places, we finally spent the night at Gariep N1 Chalets. It was a wonderful experience with the animals surrounding you. As Pretorians, we experienced a major thunderstorm and knew the rain was very welcome. Even though the power was out, there was a lamp available. The chalet was neat and clean with everything we needed. We were also very kindly welcomed. We would love to stay there again.
Had a comfortable nights stay there and a fun tour around the Gariep Dam
Spacious and contains everything needed. Just a bit unsure about safety. You can hear vehicles on the N1 but it wasn't too bad.
Neat and clean, lovely overnight.
Comfortable accommodation right next to the N1 with all necessary amenities.
The noise of the N1 is a bit disturbing, but it's very easy to find and nice for a stopover between the Cape and Johannesburg.
Clean and tidy. Nice for a sleepover.
We travel with dogs and the overnight accommodation we choose must also be able to accommodate them, as well as be securely fenced. In that respect, Gariep N1 Chalets worked well for us.
Close to the N1 but still peaceful farm atmosphere. The traffic noises were not disturbing at all. We were received kindly and everything was clean and tidy. Would have liked to stay longer to experience the tranquility for longer, but unfortunately we couldn't. Experienced the most beautiful sunset.
For one night it is value for money.
It served our purpose and cheap sleep for 1 night. It is right next to the N1. The place was clean and the people were friendly. Just a shame it wasn't at the dam (would have liked to see it).
It was very clean, plenty of space. Just a bit uncomfortable about safety. It's aside and very alone.
We slept great.
Basic unit, but ideal for overnight stop.
The unit was clean and very easy to get to from the N1. It works well for a one night stay on the way to or from the Cape.
No fuss, no thrills. Simple place to sleep for an evening's rest.
Just have to look at the fans in rooms and at the pool for swimming that are not working.
Nice farm atmosphere. Water pressure was very weak but otherwise a very nice stay.
Good overnight stay.
The places were very neat and clean but far from any shops and town areas.
It was warm as is typical for the time of year. Only one fan worked, you couldn't open the windows in all the rooms of the unit. Some of the windows opened in the laundry and in the carriage house. The carpets in the rooms are very old, but clean. You had to walk through one room into the other and there were no chairs in the kitchen. We liked the cement dam.
The "Gariep" half creates the impression that you are going to see the Gariep Dam. However, it is 10 km from the dam. If you are just looking for a place to sleep next to the N1 this is ideal.
Improvement: Toilet bench is broken. Sewer and drain clogs. Fridge too small (bar fridge). No ice trays available for ice.
Was pleasantly surprised with the place. Saw the most beautiful sunset. Thank you very much, will stop there again.
Neat and equipped with what is needed.
Place was clean. Bedding neat. Water was warm. The location right next to the main road is excellent.
Missed the turn off - due to load shedding. Martha welcomed us and assisted with lighting while we upacked in the dark. A while later the power came on. Enjoyed a cup of steaming coffee while sitting on the stoep and watching the N1 in the distance. Peaceful. Chalet was clean and sufficient. Would have had a braai if we arrived - remember to bring wood and meat.
Despite the fact that we arrived late, staff were very accommodating and helpful.
I expected more for the money we paid, even if it was only for an overnight stay on the way back to Pretoria. The house was clean and tidy, but did not live up to the photos - it was much more rustic. There was e.g. no doors on all the bedrooms, some of the door locks were broken (bedroom door and the front door) and there weren't even toilet roll holders in the bathrooms (little things that make a big difference). We got there in the dark, it is against the highway and we felt very unsafe (not the place's fault). At least nothing happened and in the daylight it appeared much better (safer). Bets was very friendly and answered all the messages quickly and kindly.
Nice clean and tidy accommodation. Has all the essentials for an overnight stay and it's close to the main road so we got back on the road easily and quickly.
I love the big farmhouse we visited on our trip back. Just a suggestion. Move one of the double beds into the room where the single beds are and the single beds into the back room. It just makes more sense with the en suite.
Good value for money. Clean.
Gariep N1 Chalets is very centrally located and really value for money.
Amenities are basic, no TV, no aircon - it's heavenly! Holiday with no artificial additives. Slept with two little puppies and they just enjoyed it so much. Cottages are fenced and it feels like a farm.
Everything is as per expectations.
Please get that female turkey a mate. Martha was very friendly. She looks really, really well at the animals there. I noticed the turkey didn't have water and told her. I wanted to give, but she did and just for the chickens too. The lockers had. The rooms could do with lace curtains, because the chalets' people drive past the rooms. Stove (oven) not working. Dam was dirty. Most important: The turkey must get a buddy. Was really nice!
Not too much road noise heard.
Perfect overnight for a long way to Cape Town. The cottage was clean and everything needed was there. Beautiful views of the plains. After many hours on the road, it was a blessing to just walk in and rest. And animal-friendly was a bonus. Our city dog turned into a farm dog there.
Very nice, but got very cold.
Dis rustig en baie gemaklik.
Lovely accommodation in the middle of the Freestate. You're overcome with peacefulness. Neat and clean facilities - had a great stay!
The kettle was very dirty, full of chalk and actually broken. Other than that, everything was in order.
We were traveling with 4 border collie dogs and this was a really welcome stop. A big plus to be able to accommodate the dogs. Very good location. Good arrangements. The farm pond next to the house was a total surprise. Everything was very clean and tidy and Martha was available for any assistance - which was not necessary because everything we needed was already available. Nice roast that evening. Definitely a 5 star recommendation.
A good one night stopover on the N1. We had a braai and really enjoyed the night stars. Thank you to the hosts.
We stayed in the big old house, with our 3 dogs and parrot! Close to the N1, safe, clean, and the staff were very staff were very friendly even after we arrived after 22:00 on our way back from Plett to Jhb. The big house's shower has better pressure than the smaller units where we have stayed previously. Can definitely recommend N1 Chalets! It is our go-to-option every year when we travel down to Plett.
No toaster. And one of the clients has stage 4 cancer and had a little trouble getting to the shower in the bath.
We were three friends staying in the large 3 bedroom house. The house is fully equipped with linen, towels, kitchen and braai facilities. Two neat bathrooms, one with shower and toilet, other with bath and toilet. The location is ideal for the weary traveler just about 100m from the main route. The house is very neat and clean! Had a stunning sunset! Will definitely stay there again.
The place was cute. Real farm atmosphere.
Everything I wanted to say already said above. The place is highly recommended.
Very clean and tidy. Well equipped. Staff very friendly and made an effort. Well located next to N1.
It was very nice and the children really enjoyed the farm pond swimming.
Heavenly, you can just relax here.
Comfortable to spend the night there. It's close to the N1, it's peaceful and quiet, the surroundings are beautiful, people are friendly, service is excellent, facilities are comfortable and sufficient. Building needs some minor points of maintenance.
The place was neat and the service good so at least it was a nice stay. What bothered me was that there are the chalets and then a type of house built in a warehouse, there are more beds and a lot more space but from the photos on the website you can't really see what the place looks like. and you don't really know what you're booking. So although the chalets may be completely different; just take into account if you book in the bigger place. For example, one room does not have a door and some of the windows look out into places that have been built out next door in the same warehouse. If you just want to sleep over, it probably won't bother you much. There is a plastic tray waiting for you on the table that says: TIPS R50, I don't mind leaving a tip but being told how much to tip annoys me quite a bit.
Everything was good. The bath and shower could be a problem for older people.
Thanks for the accommodation and friendliness. The house that I stayed in was very spacious and clean.
It's super near the N1 and ideal for an overnight stay.
It is perfect for sleeping along the road. Friendly reception by Martha. The manager, Bets, was always in contact with us.
It's a very quiet atmosphere, away from all the noise. Accommodation is neat and clean.
I had a nice rest and will definitely use the comfortable place to stay again.
Would recommend for overnight stay.
We had a good barbecue, then showered and had a good night's rest. Close to the N1, but noise from trucks didn't bother too much.
It is conveniently equipped and the farm atmosphere makes it special.
Definitely value for money.
Ideal accommodation for the traveler.
9 hours from Johannesburg. Clean but semi-luxury chalet. Beautiful barbecue area and quite comfortable bed.
Very convenient next to the N1, auction, cottages also have what one needs. Everything is nice and clean, friendly reception. Windmill and sunset always make for the most beautiful photos! Chalet on the far side of the shower's water pressure is just very weak, you can't shower at all. Shower in big house is much better, nice strong pressure!
Can definitely recommend it for an overnight stay.
The surroundings are beautiful, the chalet has everything you need to give you a break on the long way home.
Martha welcomed us and was very friendly. The chalet is basically equipped, ideal for an en-route sleep over. Recommendation ─ not sure if they provide fans or heating in summer and winter months, but may be needed. Outside braai area's wall is low. The wind was blowing strongly and we felt that perhaps they should make the braai more sheltered from these conditions. We also slept wonderfully.
It's too close to the N1, with the traffic moving past it's impossible to sleep. But with the service and housing itself there was no problem. Clean and neat and service very good.
In light of the current situation in the country, they can safely consider putting up security gates, as they are easily accessible.
It was quite nice for an overnight stay. Would've liked if the owner or agent could've done something about the flies.
Good value for money, convenient distance from highway. Neat and clean. May just give you some clearer directions. Was very helpful when I accidentally landed at Gariepdam Resort.
We spent the night in Chalet 1 on the way to Cape Town and back, the unit was neat, clean and equipped with the basics for an overnight stay. For overnight stays only, the unit is ideal. The chalets are a stone's throw from the main road, but the accommodation was very safe. I would recommend adding a plug with two power points for the microwave and fridge to be used at the same time, currently you have to unplug the fridge to use the microwave and then swap the power points again.
Very neat and spacious. Right next to N1. Ideal for an overnight stay on the way to Cape Town. Barbecue facilities. Nice farm atmosphere.
Was closer to main road than I expected. Was quieter later that night though and didn't bother.
We had a great time staying there, clean, safe and well furnished. Perfect for a stopover and for a tired soul!
The directions on the website must be updated.
The room that doesn't have a door on it is really bad if you are traveling with friends and not just a family - especially considering that the other room is a walk-through room to room 3. This can and should be fixed and really won't be a big expense. The power also kicked out. This is not a new mistake because the person on duty knew immediately which switch to turn off. This resulted in the fridge not being able to stay on.
Nothing fancy. But slept well.
Kitchen was well equipped. No bedside lamps next to beds. Was clean and tidy, but house, bedding etc. definitely needs attention. Will not necessarily stay there again.
The reception was friendly. Room is simple, comfortable, clean and neat. No problems with facilities inside or outside. Good braai facility with firewood available. Only thing that may be a problem for some is the distance to Gariepdorp, to get to shops and maybe the safety as it is located quite close to the highway. No noise from the freeway, so had a quiet night. Suitable for overnight comfort, to break the long road to Cape Town for a well-deserved rest.
Average. Outside, a color-changing light burned all night. No chairs inside for you to sit on.
Braai wood available on arrival but costs R35. Bed mattress does not sleep well, pillows hard. No hot shower water. Can't recommend.
Very close to highway and felt very unsafe. Nice place if only they put on security.
A little surprised. Not what I expected. Expect more of a resort than just 3 structures. No TV for the kids. Well enough sleeping space. Doors need attention. Front door can barely close, which is not good for safety. Can get better value for money in Colesberg itself unfortunately. Staff were friendly.
There was no water. No working lights in master bedroom.
If I had known more about this facility before, I would have avoided it. Very friendly people to deal with, but unfortunately not enough to keep this ship from sinking. Compared to other places in the area for the same price, this facility was not worth it.
Good for a stop, sleep and ride. Near N1, trucks rumble. Didn't see the hostess at all.
No heating. Road noise a bit irritating. Surroundings uninviting.
What a treat after a long drive from Johannesburg, it exceeded our expectations. The landscape brings tranquility and makes it a good overnight stop. Amenities are excellent and we had a great evening on the porch watching the sunset.
N1 Chalets met all our expectations. It is ideal for overnight stays. Affordable and very neat and clean. Would definitely stay at N1 Chalets again.
Excellent location and clean.
The taps of the bath were a bit slow, but I will stay there again, can really recommend it!
Very friendly reception and right for an overnight stay while travelling.
What a wonderful place to rest if you're not in a hurry to drive the whole way between the Cape and Gauteng! It's more than adequate as long as you do not expect luxury or television. Everything is there with the basics you need. Could not ask for more, but only one recommendation to future travellers: buy your wood before you get there. The price for one bag there are more than 2 in town.
Very nice, relaxing and neat.
I would recommend the stay to anybody who is interested in a relaxed, clean and quiet sleep over on the long road.
If you are looking for a quiet place to stay between Johannesburg and Cape Town this is the place for you. Neat facilities with everything you need!
Was pleasantly surprised with the great facilities and farm atmosphere. The traffic on the N1 did bother.
It was a very nice place to sleep at, will for sure again. Conveniently close to the highway and pet friendly.
The chalet has basic facilities. Sufficient for an overnight stay and a very nice peaceful farm atmosphere. Right next to the N1. It's easy and fast in and out on the way to the Cape or Johannesburg. However, Fransiena assured us there had never been any problems with safety in this regard. It was nice to sleep over here.
Gariep N1 Chalets is the perfect overnight accommodation for the long way down to the sea. Close to the N1 and has everything you need for an overnight stay.
Take wood with you for braai. Clean and comfortable near main road. Beautiful sunrise and sunset over the plains.
Had a great stay, will definitely stay there again.
Good accommodation, well situated to N1. Shower taps need attention. Flashing coloured lights on building during the night were quite troublesome, maybe it could be positioned higher to shine on the roof advert.
Chalets were neat with lots of space. We enjoyed the farm pool in the Karoo heat. Will definitely use chalets again in the future.
Very practical place to stop half way to Cape and drive on and take the long way with children.
It felt like we were on a farm. The children loved the farm pond in which they could swim. The reception was friendly and very friendly.
It is just too close to the N1, because you can hear the traffic at night and it is bothersome.
Thank you very much for a cute and neat place to stay overnight, we will definitely come again.
See stars.
My husband and I were in a state of shock when we drove into N1 Chalets' gate on Monday afternoon. She was under the impression that we were going to spend the night at a holiday resort; and here we drive into a farm gate to a building that looks like a farmstead. I was ecstatic when I saw the place because I used to visit a Karoo farm long ago. What a great place to stay! Turkeys in front of the back porch, chickens in a coop a short distance away and a real farm pond that offered great fun after several hours of driving. We stayed at N1 chalets on both the Southward and Northward trips and will definitely stay there again on our next trip. Prospective customers should bear in mind that the nearest shopping facilities are approximately 35 km from the N1 Chalets, so bring the braai pack and other refreshments. However, there is firewood and ice for sale.
Peaceful stay. Attention to maintenance is required as room's light did not work.
Well located. Neat and clean. Friendly reception.
Except for the shower, basin and toilet that didn't work, there was a bath and second toilet we could use. The place was clean and neat. Good value for money.
Neat and clean and very peaceful but miss TV.
My unit was wrongly allocated to someone else. However, I made sure that my name was on the list for December 20th. Furthermore, I would suggest a pack of candles and a few candles as there was no form of light when load shedding struck. Martha came out with a candle, very thoughtful of her! Thank you for the accommodation in the middle of nowhere, it's like an oasis in the middle of a desert.
Good location, but not well maintained.
Gariep N1 Chalets are a comfortable, economical overnight stay option for the long haul. No luxuries, but clean. Some of the cutlery and other items could perhaps be upgraded a bit. The beautiful surroundings make up for any other flaws.
It's very neat, all it needs are fans, and some TLC.
No what. I will not stay here again. Unpleasant smell from laundry room to kitchen, pond-swimming pool doesn't have to be crystal clear, but certainly doesn't look like in promotional photos. Grateful that dogs could stay together. Lady who received us was unsure which units we were assigned.
A place with a lot of potential, if the layout of the rooms and building is done better, bathrooms have no ventilation, as well as its privacy with a view through the windows looking at the workers' linen room. The same with the kitchen, which causes the rooms to be very hot. Many closets in place are locked for private use which gives the impression that you have only limited use, and the same with some of the curtains. Roof fans are old, inadequate and make a lot of noise. Beds of good quality.
I was quite shocked to see how much maintenance is required to get the place tidy. There are large gaps between ceiling and walls where things fall through. Toilet is very ugly and stained, looks dirty. Total bathroom needs attention and paint.
It was not a pleasant experience, dirty and uncomfortable, broken fridge, tackled kettle and dirty crockery, creepy blanket on the bed, no heaters/aircon for cold Karoon night, no TV, old towels.
On route to Gariep N1 Chalets the owner called and told me there is not electricity due to some difficulties between the owner and Eskom.
We waited 45 minutes for someone to help us at reception, we called the given numbers but no one answered. The table and chairs outside were dirty, the fan made a lot of noise and didn't really help and the other room didn't have a fan at all. There are also not enough plugs in the house.
Not pleasant. Wall plugs inaccessible. No toaster. Bad smell. Could not shower. I expected better. Perhaps just suitable for truck drivers for overnight.
Extremely friendly and very clean. Will use again.
Always nice to sleep over it. My grandson (3) really enjoys the turkeys, chickens and Milo the goat. Everyone there is so welcoming and very helpful and friendly. Thank you very much. See you again soon.
Close to Gariepdam. Beautiful house and comfortable. Can recommend it to anyone.
I really appreciated that Zelda called so many times to hear if we are safe, and she made special arrangements for us to arrive much later than planned. Really appreciate it!
We love farm life so we enjoyed it so much. We will definitely overnight there again.
Relaxing farm atmosphere. Great place to recharge your batteries for next stretch of the journey.
It was a lovely, peaceful place to stay over at. Great welcoming, clean and convenient accommodation. The area is beautiful and pet friendly to boot. Excellent, thank you.
Most convenient location that one can find. One does not hear the traffic when you are inside the house. We had a friendly reception and the only thing that I needed was a sharp knife. The lady apologised and said that there will be sharp knives the next time that I stay there. Will recommend it to anybody.
The location (although close to the main road) was very good, you see the cars go by but don't hear the noise. The manager and staff received us kindly. We received soaps and towels the first night, but the return night the same standard was not maintained. The bedding was clean, but somewhat tired. We had a peaceful overnight stay and it is very easy to get back on the main road.
We came from Gordons Bay. The place was clean and tidy. We felt well rested and could take the long way home again. The turkeys are too cute but my 3 year old granddaughter was very scared of them. Would definitely recommend the place, perfect overnight stay between Johannesburg and Cape Town
It's on the N1 so not far to start driving again the next morning.
Very tranquil! Just needs a few basic things.
Can recommend them anytime and service is very good. Thank you very much for a pleasant experience.
We travelled with our 4 dogs, they were just as comfortable, nice piece of veld to run around in, everything safely fenced in. Chalet had everything we needed. Close to the N1 so very easy to find. Just noisy because of the traffic, especially if you have just come from holiday in the mountains with complete silence around you, but ear plugs worked! Only thing I can complain about is the shower, there was no pressure, thin little trickle of water, but otherwise no complaints. Oh yes! Wonderful braai at night, the stars are gorgeous from the stoep!
Had a nice stay. However, the cottage was full of dust and sand, but this may be attributed to the very strong wind that was blowing that day/evening.
Thank you very much Dawid for your personal customer service. Thank you very much Francis for the friendly reception and making sure that we are satisfied with our stay. Gariep N1 Chalets are perfect overnight accommodation between Cape Town and Johannesburg. Also a welcome break from technology with no TV and no cell phone reception. Just what tired bodies need.
Had a peaceful night's rest and could get up early to continue my trip. Perfect for a braai before heading to bed!
For the price, we really couldn't expect anything more. However, toilet paper in the bathrooms would be appreciated and maybe soap/shampoo. No chairs around the kitchen table. Camp chairs carried outside on the porch to serve the purpose. A microwave can also make a difference. The layout is not very functional at all, especially if it is to be used for different visitors at the same time, but can only be improved at great cost, which will lead to higher costs. (It has 6 beds but cannot really be used at the same time for two or three smaller groups of 2 or three people each). However, the two chalets look very functional.
Very nice chalet in a breathtaking area.
My husband and son went for a hike up the hill and discovered several interesting stones and wildlife. Very peaceful overnight facility with all the basic necessities. We could rest well before continuing our journey the next day. We like simple places, so this was sufficient for us. It was neat, clean with enough space for our big family.
The chalets are old, but neatly looked after.
It was very nice, will recommend it anytime.
Neat, clean and easily accessible from the highway.
After a long drive it was a treat to arrive at Gariep N1 Chalets and stretch our legs. Infrastructure is good and there is room to move. Pet friendly and clean. Staff were very helpful. The only obstacle was the warm blankets for each bed were scarce: the children got cold.
Place was neat. Stayed in Barnhouse. Layout a bit difficult to walk through rooms to other rooms and bathroom. They should also remove things that don't work like the big old stove that is just standing there. Shower head also doesn't work well in the specific unit. Ideal location close to main road for an overnight stop. Could also improve security a bit seeing as how the area is very dark and there are no other houses in the vicinity. Beds were comfortable but ceiling fans were very noisy. Perhaps they just need a bit of attention.
Will stay there again! The stove's operation on note will be appreciated. Greetings to owner who came to say hello. Blessed.
Shower and bath facilities weren't good. It can be improved.
Please also take care of a plan B. According to the advertisement, guests get 1 bag of braai wood complementary, so everything except wood is packed for the first night's braai. Great was the surprise to learn that we were not catered for because the other guests had taken all the wood. Also, there were not enough towels provided. Location is good if only for a stop and overnight.
Nice and comfortable stay, but the place needs some attention. Too few power plugs and one room's light didn't work at all. When we asked for it to be replaced, there were no spare bulbs on site.
Neat place, friendly staff. Unfortunately there was no coffee and sugar and there were not enough tables for the number of people we were. For a stopover, it's more than enough.
Gariep is often used as a stop-over for many people on their way down to the Cape. I do feel that there could have been a few warnings with regards to the freezing temperatures, and preparation for this? There was also no microwave, and no oven trays, none of the stove plates worked either, luckily we had planned for a braai and not a Woolies Lasagne. It is a beautiful stopover place, but requires some attention to detail, and a really good scrub down.
It is advertised that braai wood is a part of the accommodation but we had to pay R30 extra for it. Bedding, etc. are sufficient.
It was our pitstop on the way to Gansbaai! Terribly tired we were greeted by a friendly face, Danel! She unlocked our chalet and was so helpful! The facilities were clean, but we've never seen so many mosquitoes and flies in our lives! In the rooms and bathrooms!
The chalets were clean and tidy. Although they can perhaps just move the cupboards and beds and clean underneath those as well. There were no plugs for two-prong plugs. It would also be great if they can check what time you're leaving so that you don't end up in front of a closed gate when you leave early in the morning.
Neat and clean accommodation in a beautiful environment. There's a lovely dam to swim in, the sunset is astounding and the stars are so bright. The noise from the N1 can be annoying and a fan would have been helpful seeing that the ceiling fan was very noisy. The chalets are very distant and only secured by a 4-feet fence, but we didn't feel unsafe at all. We will definitely make use of this establishment again. The Gariep Dam is only a few kilometres' drive and we could peacefully watch the shore and enjoy a refreshment in town.
It was nice with the kindness.
Very disappointed with the facilities. The chalet can accommodate only 5 people. For example - only one fork, 2 spoons, 2 teaspoons, 4 knives. Not to mention the plates, glasses and mugs.
It was very very hot, we could not sleep. For future guests consider at least a ceiling fan in that room.
It's neat but the bath and sink were clogged. Also had trouble getting road directions from driver.
Nice stopover from or to the Cape.
We slept at 8 places in 8 days and this was the last. There were too few towels, one room did not have a door, one bed was not made up and we were out of water at 07:30. The patio outside's in front of the glass sliding door was really dirty. Unfortunately, this accommodation did not meet our basic expectations while the rest of our previous 7 nights were very good and tidy. I believe with little attention and dedication can get the place up to standard.
No chairs in the house, outdoor chairs full of cobwebs, roof fans make terrible noise, toilet does not flush. No wood available for purchase. There is coffee, but no milk. I would not recommend it to anyone. Was really very unhappy.
Poor communication re where the place is located - we did a 60 km detour! No chairs in the kitchen to sit down for a meal. The bathrooms not clean - hair in the drains and mouse nests in the kitchen drawers! Freezer is caked.
No toilet paper and the next morning there was no water. Had to wake up maid. Rooms have no doors and lounge was locked. Bathrooms not as desired. Would not recommend it at all.
Extremely weak. No TV or entertainment.
It is secluded. It is arid, lots of moquitoes and no lights at the braai. Uncomfortable chairs outside. The fridge is very small and noisy. The fan makes a loud monotonous sound and you cannot fall asleep. Toilet is grimy. Won't recommend it to anyone. Just stayed one night and left the following day. Didn't even spend the full time there. Waste of money.
It was a feast staying here for the night. We will definitely be staying here in future! The perfect place to forget about the long road to Cape Town and back!
Good location, neat and clean and service very good. Will stay there again.
Very relaxing farm atmosphere, exactly what we like! Comfortably located on route to the Gariep Dam on the N1. Great place and very neat.
Despite being a stone's throw from the N1, the location is perfect and private. With a farm dam you get a real farm feel. Will definitely go again, maybe when the temperatures are a little lower.
Had a great stay. Just needs more fans, gets a bit too hot in December.
Feel free to bring a cooler and enjoy a braai under the Karoo stars. Will definitely stay again. Might consider air conditioning with the heat.
Can recommend it as overnight accommodation.
Excellent setting! Very neat and simply beautiful. The stargazing was an unforgettable experience.
Good value accommodation for the price paid. Very basic but with everything you need. Could be a bit cleaner.
Nice place to spend the night. Quiet and clean. Friendly people.
A good overnight resting place.
Only negative thing was that the kettle had to be decalcified regularly. We couldn't use it, because we couldn't manage to clean it properly.
As a native of Springfontein, I thoroughly enjoyed the farm. Fresh from the farm . Homestead has been beautifully restored with what you need for an overnight stay on a farm. Here....heaven is closer. Here it is quiet and dark at night. Owner may think of a screen door for moths in the evening. Other than that, great. Thanks for the "re-route" to Mistkuil
Nice stay, clean, close to main road, nice fire and braai, will book again.
Clean and basic for a one night self catering stopover. Bathrooms in urgent need of attention, a bit grubby with poor water pressure for anyone wanting a shower or bath.
Although it is not a holiday destination, it is a comfortable overnight place with everything you need for dinner or breakfast.
Excessive noice from N1 all night. Can't close out the noice because you have to sleep with windows and doors open due to 40 degree temp no air-con and 1 tiny desk fan for 2 rooms. Could not sleep through the night. Would not recommend two people traveling long distance. Will not stay there again.
I liked the amenities. The busy N1 may keep some people awake during the night.
It is close to the N1 and I did not feel safe as the property is only closed with a gate without a lock. Repairs are needed, for example the towel rail is missing. The one faucet cannot be used because it is loose, the tub has hard cement-like "residue" that makes it impossible to use, and the shower head does not work.
There was no one to welcome us upon arrival. There were dirty dishes on the rack, and we found a used ear bud on the floor of our bedroom.
Reception not sufficient. No braai wood available. Kitchenware insufficient (for example no bread knife). Beds don't have top sheets and we felt the blankets weren't fresh. Just one plug worked for all the kitchen appliances. Couldn't eat inside due to lack of table and chairs.
The chalets were very clean. After a long day on the road it would be lovely to cool down with temperature being 39 degrees at 4 o'clock. Unfortunately, the knee height farm dam was under construction and the teenagers could not cool off. There was no swimming pool as indicated at Gariep N1 Chalets.
Good value for money and friendly service!
Very neat house with all the necessary things. It was very clean. Upon arrival, we were immediately given the key and everything was shown to us in the cottage. Everything was clean and tidy.
Photographer's paradise. Peaceful and slept well, because the traffic is not noisy. Sunset is fantastic and so is sunrise! Will see us again for sure!
Very nice and clean.
Drove up from Cape Town - perfect place to stop over for the night. Amazing sunset. Not too far off the N1, highway noise not too bad.
Learned again "Don't judge a book by its cover". Quiet farmhouse, friendly workers who greet you when you get there and are very helpful. The house was very neat and clean, with everything needed. Will definitely stay there again. Thank you Ivan for the piece of farm and hospitality after a long journey.
Beautiful sunset.
Very convenient location, but there is no microwave, which is a problem with young children.
The main road was busy so some of us didn't sleep well. Some of the furniture can get attention e.g. the garden furniture.
We were 4 adults and 4 children under 7 years. It was very cold and electric blankets for the kids were a great bonus. Thank you very much.
We are not extravagant with hot water, but it ran out. Nevertheless, the environment is special and we took nice photos, and slept well.
Just a few things that you can look into to make your stay a little more comfortable. Mesh in front of the windows so that one can open the window without all insects entering. Possibly a fan or air conditioning. Accessories such as pots and a microwave oven. It will help to be able to make food such as porridge and meat, to clean the baby's bottles, and so on. Just one small complaint, the kettle had such white stuff in it. It wasn't very clean so we couldn't make coffee. Otherwise, it was very convenient, except for all the bugs, we are just out of town.
See the stars.
The house was clean and tidy. It is conveniently close to the N1 but the noise bothered me. Grease the windmill, because it makes noise. It was quite warm in the house, but we were afraid to sleep with the windows open because of the nearby highway.
Everything was clean and tidy and met all our needs. The staff on duty were helpful and friendly. A microwave would be welcome, but for one night's stay it was not a requirement. Tranquility was definitely a bonus and the children really enjoyed the farm atmosphere. I would recommend it to friends and family.
The accommodation was comfortable but not at the price they charge. The price creates the expectation that it is of much better quality.
The farmhouse which is very neat and clean. Some of the amenities were missing, but we planned to do without them (microwave oven, TV, dishwashing soap on request). We are grateful that there were clean linen and towels. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were surprised by an intruder who had problems with his car and didn't sleep well afterwards because we doubted the security at the entrance which was clearly lacking. The staff informed us that the place will be more developed in the near future. We will definitely return if there is better access control and security. We come from Gauteng so we are always concerned about security. Otherwise the sheep and chickens were cute, the kids loved looking at them. The windmill is also very beautiful! It came out nicely in the photos. Thank you!
Not a bad location, about a 15 minute drive to restaurants and a gas station. It gives you a farm feel, out there in the plains and nature. Would have liked air conditioning, was very hot at night, and we had a lot of trouble falling asleep in the heat. Otherwise it was very nice.
Thank you, it was a nice experience.
I was not satisfied with how Iwan handled my request. And it's not what I expected. There is no question of safety due to the nearby N1, with no security. I didn't expect that.
No air conditioning and this is a must in the Karoo. It's closer to the N1 than you might expect, and the nearest shop to buy basic things is 15 km away. Neat and clean, but definitely not worth the money. The ceiling fan made noise. Safety may be an issue as it is therefore located close to the main road.
There was no water on Saturday morning. Not even cold water. We had to leave it dirty.
Swimming advertised is in a dam that was green with alge.
It is literally just 2 chalets in the middle of nowhere. The ceiling fans make so much noise that you can't turn them on.
Excellent, friendly welcome. Very neat. Dogs enjoyed themselves holes.
The two chalets were well furnished and have everything you need for overnight accommodation. The service was excellent from the time we arrived until we drove off. The facilities are very clean and tidy. The two chalets have a breathtaking view, and with the facilities being no more than 500m away from the N1, it is easy to get in and out from the motorway. For an overnight stay I would recommend it, but don't expect 5 star accommodation.
Would recommend to anyone.
I am very impressed with LekkeSlaap's service! All the arrangements made over the internet, easy and efficient! Also found N1 Chalets hassle free, we arrived late in the evening and left very early with no problems! We will definitely use Lekkerslaap and N1 Chalets again!
It was clean (except for the grill, but it was cleaned immediately when we requested it.) A microwave would be convenient.
Als was clean and the staff who receive you are friendly. I missed that there were no paid options. No one has informed that it is not possible to pay with a card. It is basically Free State/Karoo area and the accommodation does not offer any cooling method. I asked for a fan and received none. No provisions have been made against insects either, there is no mesh in front of the windows (now you have to sleep with the windows open, because there is no air conditioning or fans) also no poison to burn for mosquitoes.
