From the moment we arrived at Gateside Guesthouse, we were welcomed with the utmost care and hospitality. The staff were incredibly accommodating, even with our large and lively group. We occupied several of the units, each one gorgeously decorated and outfitted with all the necessary amenities and more. The Frog Cottage, in particular, was a great spot for our group as it had a large veranda with a breathtaking view of the valley. Additionally, each unit had a braai and access to a stunning swimming pool which we thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend Gateside Guesthouse to anyone looking for a wonderful stay in the area. We will most certainly be back!
I only stayed one night, but was really impressed by the location (stunning view, especially sunrise), pool (surprisingly warm and crystal clear), friendly service and self-contained room, kitchenette and terrace. The room and bathroom were a bit pokey but I couldn't have expected more for the rate. Highly recommend.
Quiet environment with friendly service.
We were there for the Primary SA Athletics. Thought the rooms were going to be small. Rooms were spacious and lovely and had everything we needed. Was also pretty clean and smelled nice. We were received very kindly and the lady was very helpful. Thank you for a nice stay.

The guest house is beautifully situated on a hill with a lush garden. It's clean and the service (manager Sally) was friendly and attentive, there was wifi in our room as well as a generator on site (one that doesn't make too much noise). There are monkeys that come to visit so unfortunately all doors and windows must remain closed at all times. I would definitely stay here again.

We booked the place for the fridge, as we were carrying things that needed to stay cold/frozen. Unfortunately the fridge was noisy (and in the bedroom) and very small, which was a downside. But as we only stayed 1 night it was not the end of the world. The place was perfect for what we needed, and such a beautiful area. The Taste of Thai restaurant walking distance away was also amazing!
The teachers and group of 12 school boys thoroughly loved their stay at Gateside. The view is spectacular and the the hosts were very friendly.

Only problem was that we had to check out a day early (that we mentioned when checking in), but we still had to pay for all of the nights. Would have wanted the guesthouse to accommodate us.
Not a self-catering unit at all. Cutlery sits open on top of a half-sized bar fridge that sits on top of a wardrobe. Ironing board fills the entire wardrobe. Knives and forks in open container. Very small and in the attic room the only place where the ceiling is normal height is above the bed. Have to walk stooped all the time. No table or chairs to sit and eat at, only one easy chair. Very small and inconvenient.

Gateside is conveniently located in Hilton, close to the Meander and the schools, just around the corner from shops and restaurants. The location is extremely suitable for anyone who wants to be close to the colleges or the meander. The view is breathtaking. It is quiet and is complimented by cleanliness and friendly staff. The breakfast is good and if you can spare some time during the day, feel free to sit by the pool with a drink and calm your mind while you gaze out over the valley. Gateside is great and I can recommend it.

We had planned to stay there for the Comrades weekend as well, but unfortunately we had already found other accommodation. If we are not satisfied with that stay, we will contact Philippa again for a reservation.
Phillipa immediately made us feel at home. The rooms were very clean and tidy, and she did everything in her power to accommodate our difficult schedule.

I just didn't know that breakfast was extra - as it says R500 per night for BED and BREAKFAST but I had to pay an extra R150 when I settled my bill. If I had known I wouldn't have taken the breakfast those 2 mornings. Otherwise its a beautiful place.
Philippa is soo friendly and made us feel very much at home. We stayed in Tree Tops which is actually a four bedroom unit. She covered a divan for us at a minimal cost so that our little girl also had a place to sleep. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast with eggs prepared according to your request, along with bacon, sausages, cereal and delicious fresh fruit. We were only sorry we could not stay there for another week. It was really delicious.
