Gem Bateleur is an exclusive 10-bed self-catering lodge is situated in the heart of Hoedspruit at the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate, one of South Africa’s most open and broad-leafed bushveld areas. The lodge consist out of the following: Four double bedrooms (twin beds), four bathrooms, an outdoors shower and an outdoors, mosquito net-protected loft bedroom with two single beds with an outside shower which provides a refreshing wake-er-upper in a completely unique setting.
A fully equipped kitchen, dining area and living room with digital satellite television make up the main part of the lodge. The open layout brings about a cosy air conditioned living area. On the estate you will discover a hide offering a safe view over the waterhole where you can catch a glimpse of the animal in their natural feeding habitat. Plenty of other services are offered.
There is a number of wildlife to be seen in the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate. Warthog, Impala are amongst the many other wildlife that leisurely co-exist here and are frequent visitors to the lodge. Several waterholes provide a window from where visitors can observe the activities of birds and wildlife. 7 guests' feedbackThe place is clean and beautiful except for the bushveld that are always on our doorstep and they end up being rude and my 3-year-old kids were no longer free to play outside.
We had a wonderful stay but loadshedding was a real downer. The owner should perhaps consider a gas stove and install battery or solar powered lights to enhance the experience during loadshedding. All in all it was a beautiful experience and we enjoyed it immensely. Zodwa is also a great host and very knowledgeable about the area. The inside shower was a bit small for someone tall and the taps need to be checked as well.
Our bed was exceptionally comfortable with high quality linen. Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate is a special place with beautiful wildlife and beautiful nightlife. There is a lot to do in the Hoedspruit area. Be aware of the following: The lodge is between two very busy roads - one road at the back of the house which is outside the estate. The other busy road is in front of the house, about 25 m from the braai area and swimming pool, and since the house faces that side you have little privacy. The roads have been noisy since early morning. The 4 bedrooms are divided into 2 wings, 2 rooms per wing. There is only one bathroom with a toilet (and shower) between 2 rooms, the other bathroom only has a bath and sink in it. So two rooms share a toilet, which could potentially become uncomfortable for large groups. There is a toilet in the guest bathroom in the living area of the lodge (next to the lounge). The lodge's kitchen facilities are also used by the cleaning ladies to prepare their own meals.

We had a great time at Gem Bateleur. Als was luxurious, neat and clean. View from rooms was very nice. The warthogs, hornbills and squirrels were too beautiful as well as the night monkeys in their shelters. Zodwa's service was friendly and helpful and she served a delicious breakfast. We had a great time outside on the beautiful porch from where we could watch and enjoy the animals. I will definitely stay at Bateleur again in the future.

My only issue was the lack of hot water in the bathrooms during our stay. Otherwise, good value for money, and safe.
