37 guests' feedbackWe enjoyed a lovely weekend at Goosebay Canyon. The location is beautiful, set along the shores of the Vaal River. The kids enjoyed the pool and we relaxed on deck chairs which overlook the river. The braai and lapa area was comfortably located right by the pool and the hosts made sure we were looked after! This venue is highly recommended and we will definitely be back again!
Beautiful, clean and view breathtaking. Hostess nice and helpful. Angie and Thulie, you are stars. Will go again for sure.
What an amazing host Gail was, it was paradise on the Vaal.
* The only entertainment we found was fishing and a pool table. Boating was a big disturbance to fishing. The pool table was not accessible because the area was closing after breakfast. We were in the dark during load-shedding. A family with loud music, dancing, and noise - no one from the administration controlled them, and we did not appreciate it. We suffered without a kitchen facility to make our lunch and supper. Not suitable or recommended to stay for more than a day due to a lack of self-catering or a full-time kitchen.
Room was a bit old fashioned. Would have liked to have a tv in the room. Pool wad green due to loadshedding. Toilet light did not work. The place is great if you just want to laze around and do nothing else. It's a great place if you like fishing. Staff was very welcoming and pleasant. Beautiful views of the river. There was not much else to do.

Photos can be deceiving! Upon arrival, Vaalbank looks quite deserted and derelict. I can see this "resort" used to shine, in the '90s. But it's definitely lost its luster. If you're looking for an overnight bed, this will do. Basics like a fridge are nowhere to be seen. There are braai facilities, but no kitchenware to use for a braai. Angie was helpful, but I think she's also just trying to make the best of what she has. Included in the price was a breakfast, as we needed to leave early, Angie offered to do a breakfast box. First morning, it was tuna toasties, an apple, banana and an almost out-of-date Tropica. The next morning she sounded like it was a bother to prepare something for us, and it showed. Burnt ham, cheese and soggy tomato toasties. No bacon to be seen anywhere. Again, she tried. Staff was friendly. But I will definitely not go there again. For the amount we paid, it's not worth the river view.
No privacy. One braai to be shared. There is an aircon in the place but no "small fridge". One has to share a fridge but the doors are locked. Bath was dirty.
Excellent river views from the room, very beautiful and tranquil place to visit. Very relaxing. The breakfast was very nice including the oxtail potjie was delicious. The staff were very helpful and friendly and made us feel at home.

The lodge is located perfectly on the water, the service was excellent and everyone very helpful and the surroundings are beautiful and clean.

We stayed at Goosebay Canyon for the Easter holidays as a group of friends. The staff (Angie) was truly helpful. When we arrived, the pool was unfortunately not usable as it was dirty and murky, the views however of the dam are breathtaking. We didn't get a chance to partake in any water sports because of circumstances, but as you would have it with a group of friends, all you need is good food and drinks. It would be great if they provided a fridge in each room. We went for drinks and dinner at nearby Candyz and that was disappointing to say the least. I recommend the potjie: it was out of this world. Overall we would go back this time with gallons of mosquito repellent and fishing rods.
The place was everything it was on the internet! Service was super extra ordinary, staff friendly and helpful. They allowed us to check in early as soon as we arrived at 12 pm. The place is extremely beautiful and so refreshing.
The chalets are old and need some renovation work. The power supply turned off sometimes. Very nice breakfast and clean and tidy. I will go again.
Very nice view of the river. Clean room with basic contents, room may lack fridge and TV, but good place if you want to fish with clean place to sleep. Good breakfast, nice to also drive out to Paris for the day, about 25 minutes drive.

Manager Angie was amazing and did everything to make our stay perfect we will go back asap.
I was not happy due to the distance I had to travel to reach my graduation venue and it was a dead road with lots of trucks that made to arrive late at the ceremony.

Apart from the weather conditions, it is excellently located right on the banks of the Vaal and has a beautiful view of the river. The food served is top quality and the staff are very helpful at all times.

Sorry they didn't want to serve dinner and recommended a restaurant nearby which also couldn't help us. We then had to drive into Paris for dinner which is a few kilometers away from Goosebay. But luckily it was a delicious meal at O's in Paris with beautiful gardens and a view.
