The reserve covers 2,500-hectares of dense coastal forest, including milkwood, yellowwood and candlewood trees. It protects the charming vervet monkey, bushbuck and bushpig, as well as porcupine, mongoose, honey badger and grysbok. This is a popular choice for keen birders, as the Goukamma River and estuary and the Groenvlei Lake provide a welcoming habitat for more than 220 bird species, including the rare African black oystercatcher. There are 2 indigenous and 4 alien species of fish found in the Groenvlei Lake. Visitors enjoy the sight of the magnificent southern right whales between June and November. Bottle-nosed and humpback dolphins play in the waves throughout the year. A great time to visit is in September/October when the first spring rains create splashes of bright spring flowers amid the fynbos.
The Mvubu Bush Lodge can accommodate up to 4 guests and comprises 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. The first bedroom contains a double bed, a ceiling fan, and an en-suite bathroom with a bath, a toilet and a washbasin. The second bedroom contains 2 single beds and a ceiling fan. The second bathroom contains shower, a toilet and a washbasin.
The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering with a gas hob and oven, fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, and cutlery and crockery. The lounge area contains couches, and the dining area contains a 6-seater dining table and chairs. The living area opens to expansive decks with outdoor seating and a gas weber braai, affording spectacular views of the lake.
A double canoe is available for guest use.

2 guests' feedbackBeautifully located in a nature reserve yet close to Sedgefield town and beaches - our best find yet in the area.
The house is in the Cape Nature Park. They don't answer the phone. Upon arrival we come to a closed gate (locked). You helped very well and the manager's no. forwarded to me. That's after we drove 5 km back on a very bad dirt road to get a signal. He was friendly and arranged for them to bring us the key. We then found out that the key had to be collected in Buffalo Bay. It was never communicated. Note that the house's location is outside Knysna, but it's just outside Sedgefield. During the holidays, Oyster Festival, marathon and roadworks it takes 2 hours to get in and 3 to get out of Knysna. (Feel it could have been mentioned). So when we got into the house our day was over and the kids couldn't go canoeing on the lake, big reason for choosing the little house. The place was clean and remote for a nice getaway. Note: There is no WiFi or cell signal. Just a guest webber. The floors are not insulated so in the morning the cold comes through the floors. I feel for the price there were better options.
