114 guests' feedbackFantastic place. Only the bath is very narrow and the toilet space is small.
Great service with accommodation that is some of the nicest in the area. Already confirmed next visit.
We stayed there for 2 nights and it was absolutely fantastic. The place was clean and tidy and very spacious, everything we needed. It was so quiet and peaceful. The mountain quaggas roam between the houses and pheasants come to visit on the stoep.
Very very very nice!
The small herd of Cape Mountain Zebra love the grass growing around the suites. They only visit yours when you are not there. Very sneaky, but you can see them from the road when they are visiting you. The coast is a rocky shoreline with plenty of opportunity for fishing, although it was mostly non-edible. One evening, my husband caught 10 sand sharks. Plenty of space to run/walk. There's a lighthouse for great photo opportunities. There is no load shedding backup. Consider taking a small gas burner so you can still cook and make coffee or tea. Remember your torch.
It was a fantastic adventure, we had a wonderful rest, walked and swam, the surroundings are picture-perfect and the facilities in the unit were perfect. We will definitely holiday at the accommodation again.
Feel free to do so. Nice stay.
It was a quick overnight stop but we would stay there again. It was very nice.
I had a very nice stay. The fridge was not cold when it arrived. I reported it and someone came to take a look. The next day they brought another fridge. If the fridge had already been switched on, the problem could have been prevented. The kitchen lacks sharp knives and a few extras.
We had a nice stay, but: 1. Only the kitchen gets sun. The other rooms are very cold in winter. 2. Summer sheets on the beds were extremely cold at night. An electric blanket would make a big difference. 3. There are no cushions on the chairs outside, and the metal is very cold to sit on. 4. The chimney of the outdoor barbecue is not high enough and draws badly - a lot of smoke in the barbecue area. 5. There was no big knife to cut vegetables or meat, only a bread knife. 6. There are no "soft" kitchen utensils for the "non-stick" pans. 7. No whiskey glasses. 8. Unfriendly staff at reception.
Beautiful place. Clean and tidy.
We had a wonderful stay! Quiet and peaceful, spotlessly clean and a lovely bed with a view of the sea.
We had a great time. The cottage was spacious, well furnished and very clean. We have no criticisms and would definitely go again. The entire reserve is clean and tidy and very well maintained.
We were so surprised with everything at Gourikwa we would definitely recommend but would also go back ourselves.
This is an excellent location and beautiful place. Everything you need. Very peaceful and clean place. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Will go again and bring the family or friends.
Gourikwa Nature Reserve is an idyllic piece of heaven, cut off from the world. The Fisherman's Cottages are spaced far apart so you feel as if you are alone in the reserve. It is walking distance from the beautiful beach and the perfect romantic getaway. Even though there is no cell phone reception, the free WiFi is fast and easy to use.
We were stunned by how beautiful the surroundings are. Everything we were looking for in our holiday. Beautiful sea view, tranquility, with nature around you. Nice cycling.
Everything with the arrangements went smoothly. The accommodation was excellent and very nice and clean. The surroundings are pleasing to the eye and if someone is looking for a place to forget the worries of living in South Africa, then Gourikwa is just the right place to stay for a while.
You won't be able to get closer to the sea and nature. Reserve is very neatly maintained. Accommodation was very comfortable.
Beautiful and peaceful surroundings with a fantastic sea view. Our stay was pleasant. The Fisherman's cottage was neat and well furnished with everything we needed. Ideal for getting away from city life.
The fisherman's cottage by the sea is very comfortable, clean and well equipped. You hear and see the sea close to you.
Beautiful location, very good place if you want to rest. Service of units can improve. Linen changed, 10 nights, never linen changed. Outside unit never cleaned in 10 days.
Have fun. Safe and clean.
Pleasant stay, our time just too short to enjoy the stay and tranquility.
Nice experience. Quiet, beautiful surroundings, fynbos, proteas in full bloom are a feast for the eyes.
The area was particularly beautiful and very peaceful during the time my wife and I stayed there. The house was neat and clean and the view exceptional. Everything you need to relax is there, no cell phone reception, it's the best.
The place was very clean and comfortable. Gourikwa Reserve could just work on load shedding provisions such as lights or a UPS for the WiFi. No signal or calls during load shedding.
Lovely, peaceful stay with a view of the sea. If you want to get away from all the city hustle and bustle, this accommodation is for you. Just note that there is no "sandy beach".
We will definitely book a place again at Gourikwa Nature Reserve.
It was our second time visiting Gourikwa Nature Reserve. We stayed in one of the Gourikwa Cottages. The house was very neat and clean with everything you need. The beds' mattresses are in good condition. Everything was great. Service was very good. Thank you very much, you will definitely see us again.
It is a beautiful place with mountain quaggas and ibex, birds calling and wonderful silence with a lovely sea view. It invigorates body and soul.
Peaceful atmosphere, wonderful view of the sea.
Sonia and Lynette provided excellent service. Top quality.
The Fisherman Cottage we stayed in was clean and tidy. Near the sea. Beautiful sea view. We will definitely go again! Internet available.
We really enjoyed the natural beauty and fynbos which is in full bloom on the drive. The different colors of the proteas and pincushions were breathtaking.
The unspoiled and tranquility is an absolute must for a getaway!
Description matched our expectations.
Nice extra-long long weekend break that we really needed. We spent 1 night with friends at Gourikwa about 3 years ago and have always wanted to go back. Took the opportunity to explore nearby towns.
Beautiful surroundings, excellent facilities. There is just not a swimming beach, but it is located near Gouritsmond.
It was wonderful just with nature around you and forget about hectic life. Here we really relaxed.
Great venue en awesome ligging.
Comfortable houses with everything you need. Beautiful sea view and reserve.
Gourikwa is definitely a must! Quiet and picturesque.
Beautiful place where you can find yourself again.
Definitely one of our best yet, very neat and clean, beautiful picture. All very helpful, facilities are of a high standard. Would definitely recommend it.
Cute little place for a function.
Very private, neat and hospitable! Would recommend to anyone looking to get away and just admire the scenery. Will definitely see you again.
Was very beautiful and zebras walk like seahorses along the sea.
Friendly staff. Clean accommodation. Nice and spacious with everything you need. Nice sea view. Perfect for weddings and family celebrations.
Very friendly and everyone is so helpful real value for your money place the scenery everything again very nice stay the Villas are clean neat and equipped with everything would go back again anytime would definitely recommend it to anyone we felt safe every night slept with open windows the sea view is beautiful the breakfast was delicious and again the people who work there are so friendly really the photos that were advertised on Lekkeslaap are what we got and more.
Perfect break to relax in a peaceful natural environment and then another sea view from the cottage too.
Privacy and rest was just difficult with other families right next to me. Stay a bit cramped.
There is no other reserve like this in SA that lends itself to fishing, walking on footpaths on the 2500 hectares or along 5 km of sea front. Already planning for next visit but only for longer.
Only had one complaint. I made a fire inside and the house was full of smoke. I had paid up until Sunday but decided on Saturday afternoon to drive back to Cape Town.
Wonderful to be able to experience beautiful nature and the sea together.
Beautiful place with nice staff and clean! Fishing, bird watching, walking, cycling and enjoying nature - this is your place. Will definitely go there again.
Please make sure the customers are using the main gate, the GPS takes you to the west gate, and there is no cell phone reception to call the office to open the gate. The west gate was apparently the main gate years ago, but GPS still takes you there.
Really enjoyed it, the location is very nice! There are a lot of mosquitoes and biting flies and ticks, just be considerate. The midges and biting flies are only during September. The cottages have basic facilities. There is no door between the kitchen and the bedroom, so if you are a light sleeper the fridge might bother you.
Nice sized rooms, but mold in the shower.
Bed linen and towels can be changed weekly. Washing machine would be bonus. No sandy beach for children to play. Rest of the reserve, facilities and accommodation are great.
It was an indescribable discovery through the website to be able to holiday at Gourikwa Reserve. Will definitely recommend to everyone and they will see me again soon.
Paradise for young and old. Walk, cycle, swim, no cell reception.
Stayed in a fisherman's cottage, facing the sea. All you hear are waves and birds. Would love to stay there permanently!
We stayed in the double suites and the location is something to experience. The unit is a bit back in the resort but the view is beautiful and we also look out over the sea. The unit includes DStv and then all the basic facilities for self-catering. When we arrived, the DStv was not working, as was the WiFi. We reported the DStv (daily) and no one could fix it. At least we're not into watching TV, but sometimes it's nice to watch some TV when it's raining. The TV didn't work the whole time we were there. The WiFi works at times and at times it doesn't - it seems like the signal was just pretty weak in our unit. The unit also had no broom or mop, and no toaster. So we couldn't wipe the floor, because it only gets sandy after about 3 days at the beach and in the rain. Other than this the unit was very nice and the location is something to see.
We were able to drive around the entire reserve.
Peaceful and quiet.
Great spot on a beautiful reserve. Our spot was a bit close to the neighbours. Overall the unit was clean but kitchenware, pots and plates a bit dirty. The reserve also needs a clean up with rubbish and plastic lying around, not a lot, but still visible. For the amount you paying I would expect clean kitchenware and reserve.
No restaurant in sight.
We checked out one day earlier and also thought we would get one of the cottages by the sea.
For the first time in my life, I got a vacation that I had been looking for for a long time. Stunning surroundings, tranquility. Friendly staff. A place I would recommend to everyone I know and would visit again for a holiday.
Lovely sea and fynbos landscape.
Blissful and lovely! Will definitely visit again. The cottages are well equipped and incredibly beautiful and peaceful. Estienne at reception was also very helpful. They also prepared a camping cot for our 10-month-old daughter in the room.
What an incredible experience to be able to stay here for a while and experience the beauty of nature in a peaceful environment. The service was also friendly and professional with neat amenities and facilities designed to make any visitor feel at home.
Clean, neat and beautiful!
I'll be back soon.
The place is really nice if you want to relax and break away. We will definitely visit again, but this time in one of your cottages close to the sea.
We were the first to use the unit so everything was not tested beforehand. The fireplace's chimney was closed and there was no spare bedding, wine glasses or braai tongs.
Very nicely furnished. Some items were unavailable. TV channels as indicated in book were not available.
From the moment we got there I was pleasantly surprised. Had a friendly reception. Everything is nicely explained. When I opened the door of the Fisherman's Cottage, it felt like I was at home. Everything is neat and clean and the fact that each room had its own bathroom was definitely a bonus. I'm only sorry I booked for one night! There will definitely be a next time and definitely for much longer. The tranquility of the surroundings and the roar of the sea is a gift. Anyone who complains should perhaps consider that you go there to escape the ordinary. The fact that there is no cell phone reception doesn't really matter. The fact that there is WiFi makes a difference. Thank you very much for the opportunity to experience this beautiful part of our beautiful country.
Although a beautiful venue and stunning villas, there is a few things they can do to make the stay more enjoyable. There is no place in the shower to put your soap and shampoo etc. It must lay on the floor. There was no information booklet about the place and surrounding areas. So we had no idea how many zebras, what kind of antilope were roaming around or any further details. We were there for 5 nights and didn't know where to put dustbin bags etc. as no information is given. The first night we arrived there was no electricity. No fault of the lodge, and they really redeemed themselves by offering everybody a free breakfast the next morning. A nice stay and beautiful area if you love the outdoors and peace and quiet like we do!
Beautiful setting. Neat accommodation. Unfortunately no stores close by.
Our stay at Gourikwa Nature Reserve was unforgettable. Waking up to the roar of the surf early in the morning was fantastic. The surroundings are beautiful, the accommodation is very neat and modern and the service is excellent.
We had a very nice stay. Will definitely go again. Definitely longer. Beautiful scenery. Clean and tidy house. Good job Gourikwa!
We stayed in one of the fishermen's houses. Wonderful weekend.
The house where we stayed was wonderfully private and well equipped. The view of the sea and natural vegetation was really special. Reception was professional and friendly. We will definitely stay there again in the future.
Friendly service. Beautiful environment. Wonderful little houses - we stayed at the front by the sea.
Beautiful, couldn't get closer to nature. Place to unwind and find yourself again.
Stunning view and surroundings! Definitely one of my favourite places to stay, will definitely come stay there again!
Lovely place to come and have a rest. The environment is beautiful and the facilities is of a high standard.
We enjoyed our one-night stay at Gourikwa. Our Fisherman's House was well situated with a sea view. The house was clean and neat and comfortable. One negative was hard pillows! Kitchen is well equipped. We will return one day.
Next time I hope to get one of the cabins by the sea.
The cottage is very cutely put together and location is ideal to escape from the city. Quiet and nature is very beautiful!
This is not a place for everyone. You have to have the right attitude to vacation here. Our need was forest, to get away from everything and everyone, silence, peace and rest, no shops or technology, away from street and vehicle, shouting and noise, to only nature and field and the sounds of the sea to refresh the soul nourish. We were surprised by the comfortable accommodation of the fishermen's cottages as well as our day and night animal guests from the field. From here you can also visit surrounding beaches and swimming beaches.
No seasoned forest visitor will be able to miss this place with its layout and facilities.
We had a very nice stay. The villas are large and well equipped. It's just a shame the villas are not in front of the sea as we expected.
Very nice location. Accommodation was nice.
The units were nice and clean and well equipped and the units were well located.
Friendly reception staff. Stay was excellent. There is not much to do besides fishing. If you want to rest this is the place.
Our room was beautiful and offers views of nature and sea. A zebra came to visit late afternoon.
Very nice stay in the ''fisherman house'' on the sea, the rooms just need to be cleaned a little better.
Gourikwa can pay more attention to customers and make sure that the cleaning teams come to clean the unit 1 or 2 times during one's weekly stay. They can even bring new towels every 2nd day. The help and service is good if you walk to the office / reception, but do not see or hear from any employee. Attention will need to be paid to proper safety plans or risk plans for guests. There is no cell phone signal, which is great, but can be a risk. Might offer to take one free ride around the resort. The units were not cleaned properly, although they were clean, you could see on the floor that they were rarely deep cleaned. The place is wonderful and the people when you see them are helpful, nice and friendly. The beds sleep very well and the quality of the lounge set and furniture is good! The safe wasn't open or didn't work, but because nobody gets in there everything is safe. Units are nicely maintained and nicely painted! The pheasants are interesting and 2 owls that live there are beautiful. In general, everything was clean and tidy and peaceful. Definitely a place where you find peace of mind while you barbecue and watch and listen to the waves breaking on rocks! The place is also quite central with about half an hour's drive from Mossel Bay and Hartensbos, as well as Stillbaai, Boggemsbaai and Vleesbaai. You will not feel at all that you are being trampled by the Transvalers if you were to holiday there in December. You can also quickly jump in the car and go on the neat and well-maintained tarmac to find a restaurant in one of the many famous towns around you!
A very beautiful natural place so close to the sea. There is everything (adult) people need. Which is very unfortunate for me: Everything in English. You can be a little proud of Afrikaans, it's a language. Fortunately, your colleagues are approachable in Afrikaans.
We spent a week in Gourikwa, very friendly staff, clean and fully equipped kitchen, although little space to prepare food. Very beautiful nature. We found that the walkways were very dusty, and the beaches were very rocky, we had to drive far to find a sandy beach. There was no TV as promised in the advertisement, but we enjoyed the Wi-Fi.
It was really quiet and peaceful, just what we were looking for.
Very friendly reception, but it can't make up for the following: 'Kitchenette' without any plates or other utensils? Barbecue is available but can't use if there is no cutlery? We could not use the restaurant as an alternative because it was reserved for a wedding. Under construction on site and did not feel safe to be there alone. Sea view as advertised on the website is not the view at all units. If we were aware of that we would not have booked. Trash (toilet paper and trash can lid) in front of the unit. Bath and shower water had been dark brown.
A place away from everything, to just rest. The best milkshakes ever, and great value for money.
Gourikwa exceeded our expectations. Unspoiled natural beauty, cute houses and very friendly service.
Gourikwa is one of the neatest places I've seen in a long time. The units, pool area, restaurant and reception are tastefully furnished in a style that matches the sea. The changing rooms in the public areas look and smell like they have been redone brand new. The restaurant's breakfasts are within expectations - we did not have other meals there. There are fisherman's cottages for the serious fishermen, 2-person units 800 m from the sea, and 4 - 6 person chalets right on the beach. We were in a 2-person unit. It was very spacious, with a full bathroom, small kitchen and porch overlooking the sea. For our purposes (walking along the sea early in the morning and peeking around in rock pools) it was just too far to walk (tarred road between fynbos to the sea). I would recommend the larger units right on the beach for that convenience, and also the ocean literally on your doorstep. We were there in December for a few nights, and it was incredibly windy. The sand is powder fine and blows into every slot and crevice of a car. The nearby village of Gourits on the Gouritsmond (12 km with a reasonable dirt road all along the sea) does not offer much apart from a swimming beach with lifeguards. Be calm if you want to try the restaurants, because you wait a long time. Stilbaai lies to the other side of Gourikwa, and is recommended for a visit. I will go to Gourikwa again.
We stayed there with our 2-year-old for 2 nights. The environment is breathtaking. Have a walk in the Fynbos and drive through the paths. There's a lot to discover!
If you like silence, nature, being away from people and noise, this is the perfect place for you. Close to Mossel Bay and Still Bay. Thank you Henry and Marelize for your hospitality. Highly recommended.
Feel free to see the stars.
Everything form the reception is 5 star! Marelize and her husband, Henk, is a fantastic team! They are friendly and helpful. The chalet is one of the best ─ very neat and clean. All the facilities you need and more. I will definitely go again and recommend it to others!
The house is very nice and clean. The sound of the sea was lovely. Wonderful to break away from the outside world. Henk and Marilize were very helpful, two very friendly people. Had a really good time.
