Owner and personnel absent on arrival, during stay and on departure. Worms on the floor. Not enough plates, pots, glasses and cutlery, we had to "steal" salt in the hotel breakfast room.
The photos on the website versus how the place looks are very misleading and contradictory. These are probably photos that were taken a long, long time ago when the place was started (This is clearly visible with the photos of the tennis court as well). The lumps on the lounge sofa were horribly dirty - something to get sick of, and to top it off we found a 'pantyhose' next to the bed waiting for you. No bedside lamps, and the bathtub was also out of order. Crockery was also dirty which we had to wash before we used it. Overall we are disappointed in the cleanliness - it is clear that it was not cleaned before we arrived. We will for sure not go there again nor recommend the place. Definitely not value for money.

It was a lovely, peaceful weekend.
Good room. However, the TV did not work, there was no iron available for use, and there seems to be a flying insect problem due to the vineyard.
Loadshedding was not an issue because of an inverter and batteries. An indoor braai that you were not allowed to use caused a draft of cold air. The main disappointment was the DSTV channels that did not have any other sport except soccer, a very basic DSTV package.
Power was off at the cottage all evening. Not pleasant at all. Built-in braai was out of order and was the reason for the booking. At least power at Kokete2 was on, but as mentioned braai was not open for use. Cottage didn't have coffee or milk, at least the load shedding was light. We have the best comfort of the evening but was a disappointment to me after my good conversations beforehand and the service on the day.
No one available in the afternoons or evenings if you need anything.
On the first day, we arranged with the woman who runs the guest house that we would like to have breakfast at 07:30 because I had to drive to a business event. She agreed. That first morning they were a bit late and I couldn't eat my breakfast because I had to drive to my event at 08:00. The next morning, by 07:26, there was still no one there to help with breakfast. I called the woman who runs the guest house and asked if there would be breakfast and if we could eat some of the porridge that was left on the cupboard in the meantime. She then said "no she is on her way now". I thought the conversation was very friendly and calm, and when she arrived I greeted her kindly. But she glared at me and ignored me. She was clearly terribly upset that I called her at 7:26 a.m. and asked about the breakfast. My fiancé and I immediately felt terribly unwelcome and wondered if maybe we should just drive instead. The breakfast then finally came at 07:45, but we didn't eat it, because with the woman's behavior, I couldn't trust that she wouldn't just spit in my food. My fiance and I travel an awful lot, and we have never experienced such inappropriate behavior from anyone in the hospitality industry. We will definitely not go there again.
Some of the windows did not have curtains and those that did were very thin. People who arrive there in the evening have their car lights shining all over the place.

There was no soap in the bathroom. No 2 point plug. No ice or ice tray. Otherwise all good.
Upon arrival we were put in a room that wasn’t part of the photos and did not look like any of the photos we saw when booking the place. The bedding had marks on and blood stains, the bathroom wasn’t up to standard, and the walls were dirty. We were moved to another room. The room was bigger, the bathroom was better, but the bedding again had blood stains on them, more than the bedding in the previous room. The bedside tables were dirty and dusty. Not a good experience and won’t come back again. For a 4-star place, this is not up to standard at all.

I had a lovely stay - road is just a bit busy, just outside property.
Everything was neat, but rooms and cad rooms a bit outdated. Lobby nice and modern.
When we arrived there were a lot of workers working close to our unit who were making terrible noise and so we couldn't rest. The unit was excruciatingly cold. They can put heaters in. The unit was abnormally fitted with a lock and bolt which made us feel that there had been previous cases of burglary and we did not sleep well due to not that. I will not go back again or recommend Groenvlei.
Now if I had to say something that I would improve, I would say that there is a lack of coffee in the rooms with a kettle. Our travelers who have earlier flights will like to enjoy a cup of coffee before we travel back to the airport. I had to go back to the airport at 7 o'clock and couldn't get coffee until then. In the shower, I might also put a tray on the wall for bar soap, because not everyone prefers shower gel.
My bed was just too hard and pillows too soft and there were no thick, warm blankets, especially in winter time this is very important. Otherwise it was very very nice, friendly people and service. Nice tennis played and beautiful farm. Not too far from shops and can order takeaways too. Small shop with delicious coffee and the best and tastiest macaroons I've ever had in my life. I will go back just for those delicious macaroons. You have to taste it, tastes like heaven!

Clean and tidy, the rondavel is located separately from the guest house which is nice and private.
We had a great stay and enjoyed it very much. However, I have to mention that the venue also offers functions on the same premises, in our case there were two weddings, Friday and Saturday night, and as it goes with weddings, there was loud music playing that kept us from sleeping. Furthermore, there are two large dogs on the premises who barked at untimely hours during the night and disturbed our rest. I'm mentioning it because we were a group of 10 people and everyone mentioned it as a problem. Furthermore, it was very nice and quiet to be able to relax in the winelands, places are well equipped and will recommend it.
We had a very nice stay. They were very accommodating to all our requests. Safe space for the children to walk around and ride bikes, nice tennis court, and beautiful view. Location was perfect for wherever we wanted to be.

We stayed in Groenvlei on our recent visit to Stellenbosch. It is a very beautiful farm. We are a family of 7 (husband and I, 3 teenagers, 10 years and 3 years old) and we booked The Cottage. It is a nice two bedroom house with 1 queen size bed, 2 single beds and a bunk bed. It fits us all perfectly. There is only one bathroom though and for big family like us, you have to wait for your turn. The house was clean and has basic furniture. They have good cable TV program and internet was reasonably fast and working well. We opt for self catering and we make our own food most of the time. Plates, cutlery, cups and glasses are plenty. Only that they have no pots and pans. Maybe they forgot to put it there for us. There is only 1 heater for the living room but no heater for both of the bedroom. If you come during winter like us, it can be quite cold. The farm has few dogs and cats around. If you have kids, they will love it. Generally we have a good time at Groenvlei Guest Farm.
I was not impressed with the cottage. The bathtub was dirty, there were lipstick marks from the previous guests on the cups. The steel beams were dirty, the seating in the living area inadequate. The view was breathtaking.

We found the venue on the internet and we were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to locate the Guest House. On arrival the staff welcomed us as friends visiting. The area is quiet and restful. The room with en-suite was exceptionally clean and comfortable and breakfast was more than adequate to start the day.

The path across the grass to the cottage needs some attention as does the bathroom in the cottage. The sink drain was blocked, the shower was moldy upstairs and the wall next to the toilet didn't look good at all as it was peeling off. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean but just needs a little attention. Some of the crystals had already fallen off the lights and the one throw blanket was either stained or dirty and in the kitchen part a sign had also fallen from the wall and only the prestik remained on the wall. Fridge was also very wobbly.
As for the guest house, the service was unfortunately disappointing.

We really enjoyed our stay. The unit was self-catering, so the staff didn't bother us. The unit was clean and neat, but some of the kitchen utensils were missing. The area was very beautiful and there were more than enough shops close by. But still the guest house is secluded enough to provide a great escape from the city's hustle and bustle.
It's a nice place, but lacks certain amenities (eg shelf in bathroom, paring knives, can opener, a microwave that makes a lot of noise when turned on, no two-prong power plugs). The tranquility of the place is a strong recommendation.
Received very friendly service upon arrival. The lady suggested some nice places to visit in the area which helped a lot. The cottage is beautifully furnished and very private. The vineyards practically border the cottage and are picturesque. A few things that bothered me were that the coffee-sugar-tea tins were dirty and no coffee was available there. At most self-catering units, a small coffee station is always available. The beds slept very well. The carpet in the kitchen was very dusty and a previous guest's "loves" message on the blackboard was still there which left one somewhat uncomfortable. It's as if the house had not been thoroughly inspected before our arrival. Good value for money and 10-15min drive from Stellenbosch.

Booking was initially missing after I phoned beforehand to confirm that the booking was indeed made. Then we got the wrong chalet with just one double bed, after I booked for 3 people. We packed our things and was moved to a different apartment. This apartment did not have good ventilation and smelt funny.
The unit had been dirty. The towels were moldy. The freezer was completely frozen and dirty. The toilet was leaking and the whole floor was wet. The linen was also dirty. The furniture was also dirty.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back to Groenvlei.
We missed check in time, however we were completely accommodated by Gillian who went over and beyond to ensure that when we arrived we were ok and happy. The room was spotlessly clean, spacious and beautiful, the kitchen has everything you need and the view is absolutely breath-taking. Breakfast was something to experience where your every need is catered to as if you are the only guest and you look out onto vineyards and Table Mountain in the distance. The staff are open and friendly and made us feel at home. An absolute must for a vacation in the Cape, and yes, we will be back.

Rooms are small and cramped. On the surface it is very luxurious but the amenities are lacking.
Difficulty getting in touch - phone problem. Not enough hot water. Not coming next day to clean, make beds, etc. not.
It's far from everything - only one or two famous places nearby. It's not too clean - my wife got a dirty towel and the bath was dirty when we arrived. We had clothes washed - not all the clothes were brought back and they were left behind in Stellenbosch and we live in Pretoria. The children and staff were noisy around our room. The water pressure was bad. The gate at the entrance was open all day and we did not feel safe.
The unit we slept in was unfinished. The patch was still wet which left a damp smell in the air. Not at all beneficial for one's health. A section of the curtain by the door was not even on the arrangement. Couldn't believe they rent out such accommodation when you look at the price per day.
My stay was wonderful. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a wonderful stay with beautiful rooms and a wonderful view.

Good location and an ideal overnight stop for people who want to visit Stellenbosch.
Would have liked to know that the accommodation was a room inside a house and not seperate. Otherwise the room was very lovely and the breakfast was superb! We like more privacy, so generally we prefer to stay separate from other people, and not in a passage opposite other.
