The reserve offers rustic accommodation in 6 bush lodges and 2 bush campsites that are all unique and perfect for short or long stays. The lodges have small splash pools and are furnished with king-, queen- or double beds and are mostly en-suite. All units contain a kitchenette with a gas fridge/freezer and a complimentary coffee station.
Visitors enjoy tranquillity and a pristine, untouched bushveld landscape that is home to a wide variety of animals, birds and indigenous trees. Since the farm does not offer the Big 5, guests are free to explore the area on foot, per mountain bike or self-drive game drives.

26 guests' feedbackVery nice place and beautifully laid out. Wonderful nature with lots of privacy.
Aloe is well equipped with everything we needed. All the terrible places to hang out in and around the house are so cozy and there were lovely paths to go for a walk. Friendly and helpful service. The best part was that our dog could enjoy it with us.
We will be back with the whole family this time.
Wonderful escape from the city. Rest and peace and the absolute beauty!
The open plan works well to relax and experience the woodland environment. Received good service, staff very helpful when we had a problem.
We loved every moment.
My wife and I stayed there and it was really nice, friendly people, nice view and just peace. There was always enough wood for braai, the pool by the braai is fantastic to drink a beer and relax! Would recommend that people with a high vehicle drive to the farm, people with low cars will not survive the dirt road. The only quibble is the shower. The paraffin strong works but not nice, a donkey will work much better. But otherwise very nice stay and will definitely visit them again!
Peaceful location in the bushveld to unwind. Unit has everything one needs for a comfortable break in the bushveld. Best thing for us was being able to bring our 2 furkids with! Plenty of great walking trails. We will definitely be back.
We really enjoyed our stay and the place is very beautiful and quiet. It's good to refresh and restart.
Aloe Lodge at Grootfontein was a pure pleasure in the finest nature. The lodge was everything we hoped for and even more. Words and photos cannot describe the real feeling and beauty that Grootfontein offers. Off the grid glamping. A great team makes this a memorable experience. Go for a walk or if you have a strong capable 4x4, go to the picnic spot or 'Great wall of Tjaaina'. The LED lights around and private infinity pool is pure luxury. Just go and find out for yourself!
Pet friendly, quiet, friendly and incredibly tidy.
One of the best places I have been. Nice and private. One with nature. And the hospitality was amazing and welcoming. Thank you Perry and Jan for everything see you soon.
Sleeping accommodation is comfortable yet open enough to experience nature. Kitchen facilities were adequate with gas cooker-freezer. People are very friendly and helpful.
Well-equipped for a getaway. Staff are very friendly. Will definitely book again.
A little disappointed in the access route.
I almost don't want to recommend this place, I want it to stay a hidden gem for us to enjoy. It is perfect, off the grid basic, very clean, a beautiful location ,well maintained, friendly. The team created a paradise.
A beautiful place to unwind and listen to the Bushveld. The Aloe Lodge unit is the perfect getaway. Everything we needed was there and Lena and Jailo were wonderful in attending to our needs.
See rating.
The setting of Aloe Lodge is brilliant for a camping experience. However, it needs some attention/maintenance. It is also very unfortunate that the 2 other lodges are so close to each other, our woodland tranquility was severely disturbed all weekend by people in Giant Rock who played loud music and were very noisy.
If the management maintains the place it will definitely be a very nice place.
What a wonderful place to rest your soul! The layout of the Aloe Lodge is beautiful and the view from every room is an experience. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Just a suggestion: the lights in the rooms don't work and the parasol was broken. Other than that, no complaints. I will go back again and again. Thanks Kerry and team.
Very beautiful and different place. Very relaxing! Worth it if you love the outdoors.
Very nice place to break away. Quiet, safe, primitive but convenient.
We enjoyed each second we spent there. It was even fantastic when it started raining. There is a cooling pool on a doorstep which my wife loved.
No wildlife seen as advertised. Booked for 2 nights, only stayed one. Wind was so strong, blowing flaps in room makes you unable to sleep. Can't fix it either. Photos do not create a good impression either. No river like in pictures. Was received by woman who can barely speak English. Patrick was very pleasant. Washing was difficult without power and hot water.
Would really recommend anyone to do this at least once if they are not used to being this open to certain nature aspects. Just a few things we found could have been done better: We had a snake in our room... It looked like a Mozambican Cobra. At first, no one was available when I wanted to alert the guys about the snake as it went underneath the bed. We left it, as it looked like it wanted to get out of the room. Only after about 15 minutes I saw the guys and called them over. They looked under the bed and behind it to make sure there is nothing else, but could not find it in the hole that the snake went into behind the room. Also, the shower was basically just a cold shower. If you start it, it starts fine and it's warmish, but as soon as you want more water it goes very cold. If you make it to warm it pushes out the hose fitting for the water. So yes, we just went with the cold water. Other than that we had a great time and as I said, we would recommend it to anyone that wants to get away from the city life.
