Guinea-fowl Guest House
-
The four spacious bedrooms all have private entrances and bathrooms are en-suite. Two rooms can accommodate 4 people each and two rooms three people each. Facilities include tea/coffee tray, bar fridge, heater, electric blanket, roof fan and secure off-street parking right in front of each room. Guests can watch TV in the TV lounge of the guest house. English and Continental breakfast served daily on request in the dining room. Although the guest house does not have self-catering facilities, a separate small kitchen with a microwave and utensils can be used if guests want to prepare a snack. Enough cozy places between the rocks in the garden to sit and relax after a long drive. Open braai-area in the garden or another covered one on the banks of the spruit, can be used by guests.
This AA-recommended guest house is situated on the banks of Colesberg Spruit. Because of that and the garden, it is a paradise for bird watchers as a lot of bird life can be seen. Four very good restaurants are only a stroll away from The Guinea-fowl for a lovely dinner or lunch.

Most peaceful location next to a river. The host was so accommodating with helping us with our requests.
Very nice stay with everything needed for an overnight stay. Thank you.
Jan is a wonderful and professional host who has ensured a comfortable stay through thoughtfulness and care. Highly recommend staying at his very high value for money accommodation.
Friendly reception. Pleasant host. Had a great sleep.
Comfortable overnight accommodation.
Our stay was really lovely. We were welcomed with coffee and tea with Jan, and the rooms were spotless and cosy. We were able to walk around town as everything was within walking distance to the guesthouse.
It was a festival. We had a great time on the stoep with Jan.
Great stay. Good value for money. Friendly, helpful owner.
We had an awesome welcome, and it was really relaxing. Breakfast was really very nice and really worth more than what we paid. Thank you very, very much.
Excellent overnight stay en route. The host is very friendly and helpful. Nothing more needed just to sleep over for a night.
Ideal for an overnight stay from Pretoria to Cape Town. Beautiful gardens, friendly people.
It was lovely. Relaxing.
My partner and I had a wonderful overnight stay at Guinea-fowl Guest House on our way back home from a holiday in Cape Town. Jan was an exceptionally gracious and kind host. As soon as we arrived, he was waiting to take us to our room, where we were greeted with rusks and milk for our coffee. The room was lovely: neat, clean and comfortable. We even received recommendations for some great restaurants in the area. As an added bonus, the property has an absolutely beautiful garden. I would definitely recommend this little gem to anyone passing through Colesberg, and my partner and I will certainly return if we find ourselves back in the area in future. Keep up the excellent work, Jan and Louise!
Very nice stay in guest house.
This was such an awesome visit with the owner to hear the history. It gives character to the environment. The recommendation of the restaurant was excellent. The breakfast we got the next morning was top notch. It actually lasted us until dinner.
Thank you very much, we were received very kindly, and enjoyed our overnight stay there tremendously. Very nice surroundings with streams of water to go for a nice walk.
Very nice stay. Neat and friendly service.
Ideal for overnight or longer visits. Neat and clean, friendly reception, excellent service.
Was my overnight stop, and the host was friendly and helpful. The most delicious farm breakfast was served to me the next day. The area is close enough to walk to town, and what stood out to me was that even in the town area you couldn't hear any noise at all. There was only a soul's delight with a stream of water that can be heard and the most beautiful church bell that rings at the half hour and the hour. I can recommend the guesthouse with an open heart.
Jan was an excellent host. Thank you Jan, we had a great time.
Very pleasant - friendly, hospitable, helpful, neat, clean, well equipped.
We had a wonderful stay at Guinea fowl. Friendly host. Breakfast was delicious and really good value for money. Will definitely stay there again.
Such a warm, welcoming experience. Cozy and clean.
It was a nice place to stay overnight. Maybe a bit old fashioned, but everything we needed. Beautiful bird sounds and rippling of the river. Although the highway was close, we did not hear the traffic. Secure parking on site and the outside door and patio was a plus.
We had a great time staying and visiting.
Very quiet. Hospitably received with coffee and biscuits. Host very pleasant. One feels at home.
We were received very kindly. The room had been comfortable; we could relax peacefully after a long drive. The garden is also very beautiful and calming.
Very friendly and most enjoyable. I will be back if I can.
Neat and clean, nice environment.
All good. Friendly helpful service.
Terribly hot day, so an air conditioner in room #4 facing west would have been appreciated instead of, or in addition to a fan. The fair tariff compensated for this though.
Nice and comfortable, good for a small family to stay one night.
Friendly and spontaneous host. Room spaciously furnished. Bathroom large. Porch and chairs practical. Delicious farmer's breakfast additional to enjoy.
We had a very warm welcome and a most comfortable overnight stay en route from KZN to Cape Town.
We had a really nice stay. The owner is very nice and friendly and the facilities are very neat.
Comfortable overnight accommodation.
We have stayed at Guinea-fowl Guest House a few times now and have enjoyed it every time. The owner is particularly generous and it is just a pleasure to stay there.
Warm welcome with coffee on arrival, breakfast simple but good, room good and clean. Uncle is a very pleasant man and nothing is too much trouble. We immediately got a familiar feeling. Beautiful garden and my husband enjoyed a variety of birds in the mornings. In short, perfect.
Very friendly host. We have stayed here before and it was a pleasant experience.
Friendly reception.
Jan is a very friendly and hospitable host. The guest house is immaculately clean and welcoming. Definitely a place to rest your head on a long trip. The garden is also lovely.
You immediately feel at home, everything is 100% right on arrival and Jan is the best goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and at home, he goes the extra mile for his guests.
Jan made a lot of effort to make us feel at home. Slept warm in the cold also enjoyed breakfast, prepared by Jan. Would definitely recommend them for an overnight or even longer visit. He also explained to us how to get to the restaurants that are within walking distance of the guest house, we used footbridge due to the cold, it is not lacking at all in Colesberg, will definitely use them again. Thank you and greetings.
Jan was a thoughtful host who offered us welcome coffee after our 12 hours on the road. Although we did not use it, breakfast was also available. The room was tidy, with good provision for heating against the Karoo cold. Although Guinea-fowl Guest House is dead quiet and peaceful, it is within walking distance of several restaurants, so for us, an ideal location.
We were kindly received. Beurtrag phase 6 complicates water supply, there are light bulbs to ensure that we were not in darkness, advice on places to eat in the area was given.
Good value for money and friendly people.
No complaints, just good service.
Would recommend the place to anyone who wants to spend the night there. Excellent service.
Very neat and clean, reasonable value for the price and enjoyed my overnight stay.
We felt welcome, the host was super! The homemade rusks were such a wonderful surprise.
We made the reservation at Guinea Fowl for 4 adults (our family). A few days before we left the Cape (on the way home in Gauteng), a friend of our daughter indicated that she would like to ride along and spend the night together. Jan made a plan to accommodate her as well. We had a lovely chat with him there and the breakfast was also very nice. Thanks Jan, you will surely see us again when we come through Colesberg again.
We had breakfast made by the owner. Very special place if you're looking for peace and quiet.
Friendly reception and very helpful. Will use the place again!
Lovely, cozy place to stay. Very clean and tidy, comfortable place to sleep.
Only slept for an hour, but service was very good, room big and clean and tidy.
Good place to stay overnight on the way to the Cape.
Our host Jan received us very kindly and also made sure that we had everything we needed. Despite load shedding, we were able to take a hot shower, sleep hot and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Thanks for the plate cookies Jan! Because Guineafowl is a bit remote, we had a peaceful night with no traffic/noise.
Would recommend it. Had a great time.
Jan received us on arrival. Nothing more is needed for overnight facilities.
We were warmly received. The room was spacious and tidy. Have a great overnight stay.
OK for the amount we paid.
There is everything you need, especially the silence, for a good night's rest. Jan's kindness and generous reception are greatly appreciated. Will definitely visit this overnighter again if the opportunity arises.
Very pleasant, neat and well-equipped accommodation. I was received with friendly hospitality. Would definitely recommend Guinea-fowl Guest House for overnight stays.
Very nice people who own the place.
We were warmly welcomed. Great customer service.
Very good if you want to spend the night after a long day on the road. Nice restaurant nearby.
Maybe a little expensive for just a bed to sleep in. Don't get me wrong, all was clean & pretty, but felt as if we were maybe overcharged a little. It was a family room & we were only 2. . It would have been nice if there was some kind of alternative to be able to boil water for coffee in the morning during loadshedding. Only an electric kettle, so unfortunately no coffee. A gas plate or even just a flask with boiling water would have been nice. Maybe if we had been told the time loadshedding was expected, we could have made a plan & worked around that. I actually also did request to have breakfast there in my booking & were told it would be R70 p/p, but on arrival we were "encouraged" to rather drive to the Wimpy in Bloemfontein. (208kms away) Got the feeling they preferred not to give us breakfast. We left just after 07h00. Probably with loadshedding they do not have an alternative cooking methods.
I didn't realize that this is a room in a house (with an outside door). Things that would greatly improve this place: White linen and towels. Better showerhead. Bathroom mat.
Jan is the best host ever. He makes you feel at home and goes out of his way to take care of your needs.
During my search for accommodation in Colesberg, the guest house caught my eye given the reviews. You certainly get what you pay for, and Guinea fowl is no exception. No TV, no Wi-Fi and load shedding certainly made it more difficult - no power from 6 o'clock in the evening. My vehicle had to sleep in the open air and as a result I had to rinse the windshield with hot water the next morning to remove the ice.
Despite many guests, it was a lovely peaceful stay with a caring host. The room was comfortably furnished and had everything we needed: coffee/tea facilities, small fridge, comfortable bed and en-suite bathroom. The room's (no. 4) outer door leads to the peaceful garden and a garden set under the large apricot tree offered a chance to relax outside after our long drive.
Received a warm welcome from our host. All the amenities needed were available. Spacious room leading out to an exceptional garden. Beautiful surroundings.
Fresh milk and the most delicious biscuit we could enjoy before we left again the next day. Everything is nice and clean and the location is excellent. We got there late at night and couldn't see where we actually were in Colesberg until the next morning - I definitely made the right decision to choose Guine-fowl Guest House. Will sleep there again if I pass by or maybe even stay a little longer and grill some meat.
Neat guest house. Very good location. Friendly host. Will definitely recommend. Will sleep over there again on the way to the Cape.
Friendly reception, neat room, good location. Can highly recommend.
The owner welcomed us well and made sure we had everything we needed.
Hospitality and effort in the midst of load shedding. A gem hidden on the headland next to the creek.
Great. We braaied next to the little stream. Had a full on breakfast prepared by the host the next morning. Lovely little flap jacks with eggs, bacon etc. You really feel rejuvenated and ready for the road.
Host was very friendly and treated us properly. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Coffee on a late arrival and every care given.
Was amazing loved it.

The location of the guesthouse in Colesberg is very quiet and pleasant with a lovely large garden, the host is very friendly and most welcoming. Thank you Jan!
Will definitely recommend.
Lovely old house with the best breakfast!
Jan welcomed us with a welcome coffee and biscuits after a very long journey. We had a lovely chat and slept. We enjoyed the beautiful garden. Will definitely stay there again.
We 'overnighted' at Jan's place on the way to Joburg from Cape Town. Clean, affordable and great service too. I can heartily recommend it to anyone.
Reception was fantastic and rooms exceptionally neat. After a terribly grueling journey, we were instantly relaxed when we arrived. We were received professionally and warmly, everything was shown to us and the rooms were really exceptionally clean. I will definitely want to spend the night here again with every trip to the Cape.
Great overnight facility, unique relaxation place with hospitable owners. Is recommended.
Have a good time and go for a walk. Very cute and very friendly people.
Once again we had a nice time with Uncle Jan and already feel like family when we sleep over there.
Stayed there overnight on the way to Jeffreys Bay, arrived during loadshedding, but geysers were hot and there were lights in the room that stayed on even though the power was off. We received coffee and biscuits on arrival and the beds were some of the best I have ever found at an overnight destination. Was very nice even if it was just for the evening.
Very neat. Cute little place with beautiful garden. Terribly friendly people.
Good welcome. Very friendly service.
The guesthouse's location is in a quiet part of Colesberg, no traffic noise, and offers respite after a long day of driving in busy traffic. The rooms are neat, clean and comfortable. The host, Jan, ensures a cozy stay. I will come again.
Had a great time sitting in the beautiful garden and chatting with fellow travelers, very nice place to stay the night. Clean and tidy.
Bed was decent and comfortable. Delicious rusk. Enough sugar and coffee.
Friendly and personal reception. Value for money - especially for families of 3/4 wanting to stay overnight. Guesthouse walking distance to restaurants.
We traveled from Paarl to Pretoria and Guinea fowl was just the right place to rest and relax after a long day's travel. Our host was friendly and the area is safe and within walking distance to several restaurants in town, We would definitely stay there again if we were to travel again. The bedroom was clean and tidy, the bedding was more than enough, with even electric blankets if it gets really cold. We asked for breakfast and it was deliciously prepared and we even got road food in the form of plate cookies, what a pleasant surprise. Well done.
We had a great time, and Uncle Jan is a dear, friendly person.
Very pleasant stay, owner very friendly.
Had a great stay and had breakfast. Very good service. Friendly and helpful. Well located.
The optional breakfast was delicious! Homemade jams. Delicious homemade biscuits are also for sale. Please note that in some rooms there are steps between the room and the bathroom.
Beautiful garden and a relaxing venue.
Suited our requirement for an overnight stop. Had coffee and rusks with owner who lives on site on arrival.
The place is comfortably furnished and we enjoyed exploring the town.
We loved the breakfast! The venue is also very quiet.
The reception was friendly with delicious coffee. The rooms are spacious and tidy. Will definitely stay there again!

Uncle Jan received us even though we checked in much later than we should have. We stayed for breakfast the next morning and it was definitely good value for money!
Stayed at Guinea-fowl twice in a matter of a week and on each visit the accommodation was clean and tidy and we were kindly received with coffee by the owner. It is walking distance to restaurants if needed. The breakfast is definitely recommended.
Very good before and after use service,
It was indeed a golf weekend, but you can't find the hospitality of the Karoo people anywhere else except in the Karoo.
Very friendly and hospitable people. The place is very nicely located and the beautiful garden creates a peaceful atmosphere. The rusk was also delicious!
We were so kindly received by uncle Jan. Nice cold drink sitting on the stoep and drinking and talking. The room is very spacious with everything you need for a night's sleep. We even got some of the nice grapes that grow there. The garden is beautifully green and you can sit and relax outside. Will definitely stay there again.
Nice clean neat place. Will sleep there again. Host is very helpful. Have a nice barbecue and enjoy nature. Value for money. You won't regret it at all. Safe quiet environment.
Right from the start I was impressed by the little gestures. I received a welcome letter via email, explaining things. I requested a SMS with the location and received it promptly. I was welcomed with friendly smiles, a welcome package with a packet of rusks and coffee and tea was offered to me. I relished the beautiful gardens as I had been driving for many hours. My hosts were friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay there on my next trip up to Durban. Wonderful hospitality. The restaurant that was recommended to me for my evening meal, just a short walk into town, was excellent.
Will check in earlier in the future to be able to use the garden.
Friendly helpful host and a real gem of a guest house. Simple and delightful. Highly recommended.
Definitely the place to stay if you want to stay overnight! Well located and very friendly people!
Beautiful antique furniture at Guinea fowl.
We enjoyed our stay at Guinea-fowl Guest House. Thank you to our host.
Would like to visit there again a little longer to explore the town and surroundings.
Clean and comfortable. Very friendly people.
Friendly people, will stay there again!
Restaurants within walking distance. Always feel welcome there. Will stay there again.
Will definitely stay here again.
Excellent host, made us feel very welcome.
Hospitable, helpful, friendly, neat, comfortable, beautiful, safe, walking distance from restaurants.

We and the other guests were welcomed by the owner with coffee, tea and biscuits. Quiet neighborhood within walking distance of restaurants. No noise from the N1, unlike places to stay closer to the N1.
A lovely little guest house. Old and rustic. Reminds me of visiting my granny as a boy. The owner is a gem.
Very friendly reception. Sommer immediately felt tius. Will use again!!
When I arrived I was greeted with open arms by the host and wife. The garden and granite cup are a refreshment for any weary traveller's soul. And I'm not even talking about the home-baked rusk that was waiting for me in the room - delish! I could sit under the apricot tree for days and just listen and look at the birds that are very clearly at home in this loop court. If my time wasn't so limited I would have stayed a few more days, because Guinea-fowl Guest House is the perfect place to recharge one's batteries. I recommend this gem to anyone who needs silence, nature and breathing.
Friendly host and wife; kitchenette available. Will always want to stay there.
I'll be the first place I look for when passing through again.
Everything neat and clean. Nice playground for children. Reception very friendly. We had a nice stay.
Comfortable. Will visit again.
Wonderful host - Uncle Klein Jan Augustyn. Respects privacy but makes you feel very welcome and is extremely helpful. Unit was very nice clean and tidy and right under lovely big shade tree. All necessary basic coffee and tea items available. Will definitely stay there again if I travel through Colesberg.
Pleasant outdoor area after a long day’s travel
Ideal for the traveller passing through.
Safe and comfortable.
Beautiful place and very kind hosts. Loved our stay!
Jan is a wonderful host who also has a lot of knowledge about the area. He is very willing to help and recommend other paths. The accommodation was spacious, clean and very tidy. Would love to stay another day to explore the yard.
I just sleep over, to the Cape and back.
The room is spacious, clean and tidy. We enjoyed our stay there.
Very friendly welcome with a cold glass of soft drink. Clean room and quiet area.
Clean and pleasant, short upgrade.
Great stay over for one night on the way back from Onrus. Room very comfortable with welcoming tea and chat with Jan on arrival. Can easily walk to the restaurants too!

Our second time there. Hospitable people and a lovely place to stay overnight with a nice breakfast.
Very friendly host. Made us feel welcome with coffee and biscuits. Typical Afrikaner hospitality.
Will definitely stay again, and recommend.
We slept over one night on the way back to Gauteng. Very neat room with a hospitable host. Safe and quiet area, walking distance from places to eat. Definitely recommended.
Friendly service, neat and comfortable room that makes it feel like home. For our purpose the location was perfect.
It was a surprise to come across such a wonderful place in Colesberg. The stay from start to finish was nice. Jan is a great host and the breakfast is definitely recommended.
If your need requires an economically wise, tidy and comfortable overnight stay, Guinea Fowl is the answer. Beautiful location in a quiet street ensures a good night's rest.
Wonderful place with a wonderful host. Thank you so much.
We felt at home immediately.
It was nice to sleep over at Jan's again. His breakfast is excellent.
Our room was private, clean and comfortable with an ample supply of coffee and biscuits. Jan received us warmly and hospitably and suggested where we could enjoy a delicious meal within walking distance. Don't expect modern accommodation. Rather, it was cosy, homely accommodation with old world charm and a peaceful country feel.
A perfect quiet stopover.
Dit was 'n baie aangename ervaring. Gasheer baie hulpvaardig en behulpsaam.
Very hospitable reception in a quiet environment. No traffic bothering at night. I would highly recommend it for an overnight stay and stay there myself again if the chance arises.
The guesthouse is perfectly located. We were welcomed with open arms. The room was spacious, neat and had everything needed. Lovely restaurant within walking distance. Would love to go back.
Jan is a wonderful host, takes care of the customers and gives good advice and pointers. Nice tasty breakfast. Will definitely go there again.
No complaints. Neat and calm and friendly welcome.
We only slept over for one night but have stayed at Guinea fowl before. Jan's hospitality makes you feel like family - we had a good time. The room was comfortable with everything you need. The breakfast was delicious and Jan spoiled us even further with flapjacks for the road. Thanks Jan! Will definitely go again.
Calm atmosphere. Good support by the host. Neat and clean.
The guest house owner makes you feel truly at home. The rooms are well furnished and are more than enough if one wants to rest after a long day on the road.
We enjoyed the stay. It is an old house that has been very well restored with all the amenities of a modern building. Sorry we couldn't enjoy the well-known and apparently "awesome" breakfast, Jan had to go elsewhere in a hurry.
Everything was fine, we have no complaints about our stay, Jan, our host made sure we were comfortable.
Would have liked a television and internet access.
Very friendly host, comfortable room and peaceful surroundings.
Very quiet and peaceful within walking distance of nice places to eat and was kindly received with nice snacks.
Jan goes to a lot of trouble for his clients. He is very friendly and makes you feel at home.
Pleasant.
Very friendly service rooms were cleaned and well presented
The host is an interesting socialite with many anecdotes to share. Quiet, safe and natural environment close to good restaurants within walking distance.
Had a great stay and slept well. Delicious breakfast.
We were received very warmly. Room is neat, clean and comfortably furnished. The breakfast is fantastic! Jan also gave us very good ideas of places we should visit in the area. It was like visiting an old friend.
Very comfortable and warm stay. Huge breakfast with enough for "padkos". Can definitely recommend.
Spacious bedroom with lovely bed and pillows. Adjoining living room with TV was a bonus. We will not forget Jan Augustyn's hospitality. The price was extremely reasonable.
We had a very nice stay and the owner welcomed us very kindly.
I really enjoyed my stay.
Uncle Jan checked us in after 00:30 in the morning, long after closing time. He was very hospitable, even offered to make us coffee. The room was equipped with everything one needed for the night.
Friendly reception and very helpful to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Quiet and peaceful environment with restaurants within walking distance.
Excellent for pocket-sized accommodation. Thanks for the home-baked biscuits!
Value for money, we had a nice sized room with everything that we needed. It's not fancy but great to just spend the night. Walking distance to several restaurants. We enjoyed our stay.
Great reception by owner. Ideal place for overnight stay. Room very neat and clean. Will go back.
The best place between Durban and Cape Town. Please use it.
Jan is a real host. He quickly made us feel at home with a nice cup of coffee upon our arrival. The bedrooms are comfortable, everything one would need. I was especially grateful for an electric blanket on the bed! The breakfast was a feast, far too much to eat. Jan was so kind to pack us the plate cookies for road food!
Nice.
The place is conveniently located in the center of town, but far enough from traffic. Very friendly and nice personal reception from the owner. Everything is neat and clean, the breakfast was very tasty and served at the agreed time. We enjoyed a nice dinner at Inni Kraal within walking distance from the guest house. Would happily recommend to visitors.
It has a great location away from the busy street. And Jan's hospitality was just fantastic, not to mention the affordable, value-for-money breakfast!
Spacious bedroom with sitting-dining room communal. Shower's cold and hot water pressure are very different.
I really enjoyed the stay. The owner is very friendly, hospitable and a pleasure to talk to. The stay was excellent and I would definitely recommend it.
Owners are genuinely hospitable and "hands on". We felt very much at home. The breakfast was top notch. We only stayed one night, but will definitely stay there again if we travel that way again.
Although it was a quick stay over to rest on my trip, the experience I had was fantastic. Close to pub and restaurant.
Hospitable and friendly. Good value for money. Thank you very much.
Very positive experience. Electric blanket in the winter was a bonus.
I will definitely make use of the opportunity to stay with Oom Jan again in the future. The people are genuinely friendly and make you feel at home immediately. Thank you for a nice visit and I look forward to coming back.
Jan, the host, is super friendly and helpful. The en-suite rooms are equipped with a fridge and the basics to make coffee and tea. The rooms are traditionally furnished, spacious and the beds super comfy. The bathroom is large and spotless. Parking is available on the property - also for the trailer. It is located in easy walking distance to great restaurants. Thank you - certainly can recommend.
Very quiet and convenient in the town. Close to restaurants, shops, etc. The room was very neat and convenient - perfect for a peaceful night's rest.
We enjoyed the little stream nearby! Ons like walking and the guesthouse is so well located that we could walk everywhere. Jan is a very friendly, helpful host. We would really love to stay here again.
Thank you Jan, see you again soon.
I can really recommend this guesthouse to anyone. It's the most pleasant owner I've ever met at a holiday destination. Thank you Jan for your hospitality and care. It's a lovely, tranquil overnight place with beautiful gardens. Thanks again.
Jan's reception was friendly and we were offered coffee and sat down to chat for a bit on the stoep. He recommended a good restaurant within walking distance. The room was very spacious and neat. The only negative remark: the shower's drain was blocked and took hours to empty so the second person to shower had to stand in ankle deep water.
Hospitable and beautiful, the perfect overnight stay for peacefulness.
Everytime we've stayed at Jan's we've felt like we're visiting family. The rooms are clean and convenient. Breakfast is excellent.
Very hospitable and friendly people. Delicious breakfast and people who treat their guests with respect.
Thank you very much, we had a great stay and will be back.
Jan's thoughtful welcoming of strangers to his home made us feel at home as if we were old friends and everything was done just for us, with ample respect for our privacy. We slept well and hit the road again early next morning, just as we planned. Thank you.
See star rating.
Oom Jan welcomed us with open arms and were so hospitable. The peaceful and beautiful location compliments that guesthouse and creates a homely feeling. Would stay there again if the road leads me there again some day.
Neat accommodation and very generous reception. We had a very peaceful night and would definitely recommend and use again.
It is always nice for stop over. All good.
Accommodation was neat and I received a friendly welcome from Jan!
We were warmly welcomed and given a cold beverage. Jan was very helpful and friendly and the accommodation was clean, neat and has everything we needed. The breakfast was good value for money and way too much to finish!
Nice garden. Owner very nice.
Uncomfortable parking, especially with a trailer. Otherwise no problems.
Very friendly and hospitable reception. Felt at home.
Very hospitable and beautiful. We will sleep here again.
Was nice to feel special on arrival. very friendly and helpful.
Hospitable and friendly. We felt at home straight away.
Everything was clean and neat and we didn't need anything.
Use every time we travel.
Our arrival was delayed so we only arrived at the Guinea-fowl Guest House after 22:00. Notwithstanding this, we were greeted by our host most graciously and supplied with a tray of tea. The breakfast the following morning was very good too and they had even undertaken to return what I left behind by mistake. This sort of service is quite unusual!
Friendly reception and welcome. The surroundings are peaceful and quiet and I got a good night's rest to face my long journey home the next day.
Travellers on an overnight stop could not ask for more than the friendly hospitality of Jan and Louise at Guinea Fowl Guest House. The rooms are well appointed and very neat and every effort is made to make the stay enjoyable. Situated within walking distance of 2 excellent restaurants.
The stay was very nice, nothing short of what one needed.
The cleanliness and hospitality are good.
Would stay there again anytime. We had a good time, rested well and enjoyed the stay at Guinea-fowl. Will definitely use this destination again.
Hearty, warm, country hospitality and excellent breakfast!
Uncle Jan was very friendly and helpful. Nice quiet location where you can relax before you travel further. Will stay there again.
Thanks! It was a great stay and I enjoyed the peaceful town.
Comfortable and clean. Located near two nice restaurants.

Our reservation was completed quickly and Uncle Jan welcomed us kindly. Will definitely stay there again!
Jan Augustyn received us kindly and went out of his way to satisfy us. It was a very pleasant experience and we would definitely like to stay at Guinea-fowl Guesthouse again.
Discussed on the spur of the moment. The communication was fast and we had a place within 3 hours. The host is amazing and took no pains when we got there only at 19:30. Had a great sleep. Real country atmosphere. You simply walk along the dusty roads to the restaurant.
Thank you Jan for your friendly reception, spacious room and delicious breakfast. Keep it up!
Value for money, a welcoming host in a lovely house with everything you might need for a stay over. The recommendations made for supper was excellent. We slept warm and comfortable and enjoyed a warm shower with enough towels provided. The DStv was an unmentioned added benefit.
Very hospitable owners who have the guests' interests at heart.
Jan is very friendly and customer service is great.
We arrived at 10.30 pm at night and were greeted warmly by Jan the owner who immediately offered us tea or coffee. We have travelled a lot around South Africa and everything one needs for a comfortable night stop was supplied. Great shower, bar fridge and comfortable bed. I travel with my own bedding as that's my business so can't comment on theirs. Yes the furniture is not sparkling new, but the place is spotless. For the price, its excellent value. We'll definitely stay here again.
Would recommend to anyone, even if just to stay overnight. Top notch hospitality.
We were kindly received, the room nice and spacious, service is very good. There are nice restaurants within walking distance of the guest house and it is safe to walk late at night. Will definitely visit again!
Pleasant host. Very helpful with good accommodation.
Good and friendly service - nice recommendation made for dinner. Homemade biscuits and fresh milk for an early morning coffee would have been nice. We will come again.
Very friendly reception, it felt like staying with family. Delicious breakfast.
Could replace bed linen and towels - although clean, looks old and I would imagine this could put many guests off.
Our reception was friendly, coffee on the porch! Rooms are spacious and tidy and the breakfast top notch. Nice company with the host! Will definitely stay here again.
The management does more than what is expected. Outstanding and the best in the Northern Cape.
It was a pleasant stay. Basic, but everything one needs for the purpose. Owner gave personal attention and was very helpful.
The fridge froze the milk and the fan whirred.
Guinea Fowl Guesthouse is literally a home away from home! Communal TV area served it's purpose to distract our daughter for an hour or two before setting off to find a play area and a relaxing cup of coffee and then retreating for a comfortable nights rest! Very reasonably priced too!
Even with noise from night club we rested well.
Will stay at Guinea fowl again and recommend to anyone.
Beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Clean and tidy accommodation. Comfortable and well equipped. Pleasant experience.
Nice large room/flatlet with a separate entrance, set in a pretty garden away from the main road. Jan offered us a free upgrade to a larger room equipped with a fridge, microwave and bathroom - as though we paid for the smaller room, no one was in the bigger one, and we gladly accepted her kind offer.
Hospitable and friendly!
We needed a stop over on our journey and Guinea Fowl was well suited to our needs, at a very reasonable price. Friendly owner who provided personal service.
A wonderful environment in a bit of nature for the traveler who prefers silence. Neat and clean rooms with home-baked biscuits and coffee waiting at reception for every guest. This will definitely become our regular overnight stop on the way to the Cape.
As above I would like to say that I really enjoyed my stay and would gladly stay there again.
Warm, relaxing, hospitable atmosphere. Five-star breakfast. Electric blankets. Beautiful garden to wake up to with night lights. It's my first choice when travelling between Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Jan received us very kindly and made us feel absolutely at home. The breakfast the next morning was delicious and huge! We will definitely book there again and again.
Jan Augustyn welcomed us kindly with tea and delicious biscuits and also showed us his interesting garden. We found the guest house very comfortable in a quiet part of town yet close to the main street. The room and bathroom were neat and clean and there were electric blankets on the bed which helped to ward off the cold.
Jan is an excellent host . The one night we stayed was pleasant and had a lovely homely atmosphere. Jan's breakfast, as my daughter described it, was fit for a king!! Will definitely use the guinea fowl again.
Although there are no self-catering facilities in the rooms, there is a full kitchen for use by the guests with plates, cutlery, microwave etc. Lovely cool garden to sit in as can get hot and only fans in rooms. Was quiet the night we were there but can get rowdy with more people and children.
Affordable and clean!
Was kind. We only stayed one night.
It was a very pleasant experience. Beautiful place.
Walking distance from cute places to eat. We would recommend the place to anyone who wants to spend the night in the Colesberg area. We would stay there again anytime!
A good guest house.

Jan received us very hospitably, and gave us coffee and delicious biscuits for our morning coffee.
Jan was a great host and went out of his way to make it as pleasant as possible.
