93 guests' feedbackIncredible view from the porch. Clean, warm place for the winter. Hostess helpful and makes extra effort. Overnight stay was wonderful, we wanted to stay longer. Will definitely plan for a longer visit next time.
Most beautiful view, with very friendly service. A wonderful hostess.
This was an absolute bliss of a holiday. I can only thank the host for their hospitality and kindness. I will recommend Gum Tree Glen to anyone that wishes for a peaceful holiday with the best views. I can fault nothing of our stay with Gum Tree Glen. Thank you.
Peta was extremely friendly with lots of advice and ideas. The place is cozy and fully furnished, would go again anytime. I can definitely recommend it. Wonderfully quiet and away from any hustle and bustle, lovely view. Thank you Peta.
Absolutely brilliant. Spotlessly clean. Lovely accommodation. Peaceful surroundings. Very comfy bed and great bedding. Absolute bliss, couldn't wish for more. An absolute gem away from the hustle and bustle. Lovely extra little unexpected touches by Peta, which were such a treat.
Stunning view. The host went through extra trouble to accommodate us on short notice. Nice touches with fresh milk, eggs and rusks for breakfast.
Very nice stay with a peaceful farm atmosphere. Hostess received us warmly. Everything you need is available. Was spoiled with more than normal for self-catering accommodation.
Delicious! Beautiful view. Hostess very nice. We were deliciously spoiled with fresh farm eggs, milk, sherry, bread, all teas, coffee and biscuits. The cottage was wonderfully cozy and was heated upon our arrival. Electric blankets on all beds, just right for the cold weather of the Midlands. Thank you for a wonderful sleepover!
Beautiful place. Slept well and the view is breathtaking.
We love the area and had a very peaceful stay. The cottage was great for the 2 nights, superb inside - it's just too difficult to come onto the veranda and entrance or leave the cottage. The steps are hideous, too steep, not suitable for older persons or persons with physical disabilities. The very rocky 'gravel' road leading to the cottage is a bit long and guests really need a stronger vehicle with good clearance.
The stay was great. The dirt road is only 3 km long and is suitable for normal cars driven at low speed.
We had a very nice stay. Loadshedding was unfortunately part of the weekend and made the eating rules difficult. However, the hostess provided us with a flashlight and most of the bedside lamps in the room had bulbs that worked. The dirt road to Gum Tree is not a very pretty road. A bakkie / 4x4 / or SUV will drive the road more easily, however, ordinary vehicles must drive very slowly. The view on the farm is beautiful. The environment is very beautiful. The hostess and her brother were very friendly and really helpful.
Very nice stay, would recommend for sure. Directions from the road could improve, possibly with a "pin drop" at the tarmac turning off onto dirt track to GumTree Glen.
Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short. Work circumstances called us and we couldn't stay there the full time. Only spent one night there.
We slept great.
Loved our stay at Wrinkly Tin Cottage, Gum Tree Glen. Peaceful, relaxing location that is easy to access. The cottage was clean with a well-equipped kitchen, and having 2 bathrooms is such a plus. Peta was friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be visiting again.
The hostess, Peta was fantastic. Quickly responded to e-mail questions and received kindly. Was generous with travel information about the area for visits. The studio we stayed in had all the ticks, milk in the fridge, tea, coffee and ground coffee and biscuits plus 6 farm eggs. Would definitely recommend. Thank you, Peta.
The house is a quaint, comfortable one with everything one needs. It overlooks a beautiful valley and is well situated for day visits to the Midlands attractions. Value for money was excellent, and our hostess was very helpful and accommodating.
We were sorry that we were only staying for 1 night. Would love to come back and stay longer. Very tranquil in beautiful surroundings and the cottage has everything one needs.
We felt so welcome, Peta makes you feel so comfortable. The little things were noted with great surprise, the cherry that was waiting for us including fruit juice, butter, bread and fresh eggs. It really was a great stay.
What a delightful cottage. So beautifully appointed and such attention to detail. Lovely host who really went above and beyond. Lovely to have 2 x bathrooms and the water was lovely and hot. Hope to visit again. Sadly, we arrived very late and had to leave very early the following morning so never got to enjoy the cottage to the fullest.
I can certainly recommend Gum Tree Glen. It is very well equipped and although it was very inclement weather the unit was cozy and warm. Peta went out of her way and added lots of extra treats like nice fresh milk, eggs, bread and even a fruit juice. We will definitely visit there again.
Friendly. Clean, awesome view.
Truly enjoyed our stay and the view was breathtaking.
We had a wonderful overnight stay at the quaint Gum Tree Glen. It was an exciting drive down the dust road through the surrounding farmlands with the most wonderful scenery. The cottage is rustic and quaint with everything we needed. The view is perfect. We loved it and will be back. Excellent value for money.
We couldn't have asked for anything more. Peta was so accommodating and helpful. We loved the place and will recommend it to friends.
The Studio was sufficiently equipped, a nice peaceful area. Peta is a good hostess. We enjoyed the area during the stay.
Peta is a great hostess. Friendly and caring about your comfort etc. Would just say that the bathrooms are dark and need a facelift. Otherwise, it is a lovely cottage!
Peta was an excellent hostess and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Wrinkly Tin cottage had everything one could need.
We ended up staying in the cottage, the view with the sunrise was really special. The bedding was of such high quality that the electric blankets provided were not even necessary for a good night's rest.
Well equipped gorgeous cottage in a fantastic location. Our host Peta was very friendly and accommodating. The beds were very comfortable. Loved our stay.
We were 5 ladies and did not feel unsafe, if there was what we needed, even when it was load shedding, they had lamps ready for us. We will go again for sure.
Would recommend Gum Tree Glen any time.
I will definitely book again. Peta is a lovely lady. She called us to check if we are ok.
We swam Midmar Mile and came across the beauty of a self-catering place. It's very safe to go and relax there. We had the privilege of getting rain there on Friday night, something particularly beautiful to see there. The road to get there is a rocky two-lane road that you have to tackle by SUV or pick-up truck. The house is very neat and clean. If you want to barbecue, use charcoal instead, because this green part of our country does not have dry wood, so I will make another plan next year.
Gumtree Glen has a beautiful view and has everything you need. The peaceful atmosphere relaxes you immediately. The hostess is very friendly and makes you feel very welcome. The 3km dirt road is unfortunately not suitable for low cars and the road back and forth made us hold our breath a few times.
Beautiful, quiet surroundings. Hosts very friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile to make our stay more comfortable. Studio was perfect, warm and comfortable, and had everything we needed for our stay. Definitely recommend it.
Peaceful, clean and comfortable. Good value for money in homely surroundings. Well-stocked fridge and welcoming sherry carafe to warm the soul.
The house is beautiful. Artistic. Full of extras. There were apples in the most beautiful bowl, fresh eggs, beautifully furnished. Everything makes you feel special. There are books and magazines to read, a lovely patio. We had a barbecue outside. The scenery is a bonus. It's quiet and peaceful. The owner is hospitable. I can really recommend this place. I would also like to go back again for longer.
Our stay has exceeded our expectations. Peta and Terry were very helpful n accommodating. Great attention to detail. Very clean. Will most certainly go back.
Nature is truly something special and the tranquility welcome after the hustle and bustle of the city. We only stayed one night on our way to another destination. Peta was a wonderful hostess and made us feel very welcome.
When we arrived the hostess was there to receive us so kindly. Everything was so clean and comfortable and extras to make us feel so welcome.
Most lovely view. Everything we needed was in the cottage. Could just relax quietly or go to the many attractions and restaurants in the area. Was an experience. Something for everyone's taste. Good location. Breathtaking view. Will definitely go again.
When you receive fresh butter, bread and eggs at reception, you know you are welcome. The cottage is beautifully located and very well equipped. Our family had a wonderful time in the Midlands.
The people were so friendly.
Gum Tree Glen is the most beautiful cottage away from everything, if your soul and heart seek rest, this is the place. The cleanest most beautiful place and so easily accessible. There were milk, eggs, butter and bread in the fridge. Not once this weekend were we bothered by people. The view was incredible. This is a place where any person, young or old, appreciates nature again. We will definitely go back again.
Very good service. Friendly, helpful people. Stunning view! Very nice house with extra treats! We had a great stay and will definitely stop there again! Thank you so much for everything Peta!
The cottage is tastefully furnished and luxuriously equipped with delicious bed linen and more than is needed in the kitchen with extra dishes! I just want to come and stay here for a month and would easily trade the city for this beautiful place!
Our hostess, Peta, went to great lengths and provided fresh bread, eggs, orange juice and even butter. Everything was clean and tidy and we had a great time.
Thank you very much for all the extra treats to make our stay extra special!
Well appointed cottage with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Peaceful getaway with stunning views.
The road going to Gum Tree Glen is tricky, but the owner advised us of this well in advance.
Exactly what we had in mind - quiet, view of surroundings, neat and clean with everything we needed. Really enjoyed our time there!
Accommodated us to change reservation 3 times. Thanks for that!
The roads to get to the accommodation were terrible.
Beautiful place with beautiful nature. The unit is beautiful and the beds are comfortable. Very safe.
Lovely, comfortable, clean cottage with amazing views. The milk, butter, eggs, bread etc. was wonderful for breakfast and the sherry on our cold wet arrival was most welcome.
We had a fantastic time and the place was clean, tidy and full of personality. Peta, our hostess makes an awful lot of effort to make the stay very pleasant. Would definitely stay again, but for more than one night.
Gum Tree Glen greeted us with a warm welcome, the studio flat was spacious and clean with everything we needed. What a lovely hilltop view over the neighboring farms, we even heard a jackal. And then they went the extra mile providing farm milk, bread, eggs and butter in the fridge enough to cook our own breakfast. Let me not forget about the sherry which was a lovely spoil. Thank you for a lovely comfortable stay :-)
Directions really need attention. At every turn there is a sign that gives you the assurance that you are on the right road. The first sign that said Gum Tree Glen was 80m from the cottage.
It feels like coming home. The hostess cares, lets you know if there is load shedding and what time, recommends places of interest and is involved. It's a nice treat!
Pleasant stay, central located as a base camp to explore the area. The main access is a bit difficult when wet, however, the secondary access was much easier. Very friendly reception, made us feel welcome, will visit again.
I really enjoyed it. View is amazing.
We can definitely recommend Gum Tree Glen. A very nice place away from all the hustle and bustle. Clean, tidy accommodation with the tranquility of farms in the area. The road is a bit bumpy, but the beauty of the surroundings makes up for it.
A peacefu place to escape.
A bit too far out of our way. A sign "Gum Tree Glen" on the farm gate leading up to property would be most useful. We rode past gate twice until we got phone directions from owner.
What a warm, cosy, tidy house with a wow view! Everything was neat and clean and the bedding smelled fantastic! See you again! Next time for longer.
Beautiful place! The accommodation is well equipped. The hostess spoiled us with a lot of food for our self-catering breakfast. The fact that it is a private dirt road against it added to the fact that it was delightfully quiet. There is a lot to do in the area.
We had the warmest welcome with hosts really going the extra mile. Waking up to stunning views and going to bed at night in the cutest little cottage. We loved our stay and will surely be back!
It is like an oasis with water and green landscapes as well as friendly people and very nice rooms. This is all near the town. So you can be refreshed as well as entertained by going to town. Keith and Pat are special, kind people.
Friendly and good welcome. Place is very neat and clean. Perfect for a getaway from everything.
A suggestion would be bigger, better sign marking for the roads to the cottage. Felt a little lost while getting there.
What an incredibly peaceful, beautiful place. The hospitality and helpfulness of the owners was refreshing, and the pure white linen and softest blankets were a necessity in the cool misty morning air.
Arrived in dense fog. Road directions were very clear. Howick is only a short distance from Gum Tree Glen. Beautiful surroundings, lovely accommodation. Friendly hostess. Would definitely recommend.
So happy we found Gum Tree Glen! We needed affordable accommodation for a wedding we were part of nearby. We were horrified by the high prices of other venues in the area. So we picked the cheapest one and arrived with zero expectations, simply needing a place to rest our heads. We were so pleased by the beautiful cottage and the helpfulness of host, Peta, when we got lost in the early hours of the morning. Peta is warm and generous, providing us with bread, fresh milk and eggs. She really went above and beyond your standard host. The cottage is an eclectic mix of comforts and quirkiness. Anything you'd need is provided, even though the cottage is self-catering. We felt taken care of in the height of our bridal party panic. Staying at Gum Tree Glen made a really stressful weekend a whole lot more calm and serene. Highly recommended!
The road to the place is not nice, if I had known what the road looked like, I would have driven with a van, but otherwise everything was 100%. The people are friendly, the place is very very nice and neat and clean and the view is beyond beautiful!
We were warm and friendly received. Beautiful view from patio. We had such a good night's rest on the soft beds with lovely bedding. I struggled with the gas stove because we are not used to one. Will stay there again anytime. Thank you Peta for all your help and directions.
Gum Tree Glen is a neat place for a single traveller or someone looking for one night's stay with their partner.
Neat accommodation with everything you need. Directions not very clear, dirt road bad in certain places after the rain.
On arrival, Peta was waiting for us at the cottage. The place is very beautiful and you feel right at home. Spacious house with everything you need. Peta, thank you very much for the goodies/food you gave us - my husband really enjoyed the farm fresh milk!
We received a friendly reception with a glass of sherry and immediately felt at home. The house was nice and warm and cosy and we had a great stay.
Very neat and clean. Extras such as eggs, yogurt, fruit juice were available. Thanks, Peta, for the lovely stay, wish we could stay a bit longer!
Very friendly hosts. We stayed in the tin roof house which is beautiful. Well-equipped, spacious, clean with serene atmosphere. Stunning verandah to relax on. The farm eggs, bread, fruit juice, sherry etc. in unit was a really thoughtful touch. Battled a bit with farm roads. Perfect place to stay once there, not to pop in and out of. I would definitely go back.
We arrived at night, owner and her daughter went to great lengths to make sure we were driving the right way. We were warmly received. There were a whole lot of respectable treats waiting for us and a glass against the cold. We were pleasantly surprised and had a great time visiting and resting there. Nice getaway spot.
The house is spacious and well furnished and had a lovely view. The beds were comfy and the kitchen was well stocked with surprise extras. The property is 5 minutes down a dirt road which is not a problem for a normal vehicle and only 15 minutes from Howick.
I will definitely recommend Gum Tree Glen for those who want to escape from the city. Hosts are great and the view is fantastic, I won't go there in the rainy season with a low vehicle. Other wise it is a 10/10 place.
Very neat. Small, but the surroundings are beautiful. Quite far from shops, so make sure you buy your food and drinks beforehand.
The dirt road to the cottage is a little bumpy, but slow and steady does the trick even in a Sedan. Cottage is well appointed; fridge and kitchen were supplied with eggs, milk and other little breakfast things as the location is far from shops. (Thanks for that) Lovely veranda and nice view.
We did only sleep over for a few hours that night, but the place was very nice, and Kerri was very hospitable and friendly. The dirt road is very rough.
You guys are the best! Love you!
Thank you very much for the snacks that are provided to ensure that we don't go hungry on the road. Thank you very much for the neat little place and hot water bottles, beautiful view that we could enjoy and your hospitality. It makes your place unique. Truly a place where one can unwind and relax. Thank you very much for making us feel so at home and welcome. Even though the road is a bit rough to get there, it was good value for money and I recommend your place to everyone I can.
