Hand-built by the owners, this unique, eco-friendly cottage makes use of solar energy, and water is provided by the mountain stream. All the woodwork was made from trees from the plantation, some of which are over 18 years old and was planted by the owners.
The cottage comprises 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, a kitchen, and a lounge area. The bedroom is furnished with a double bed, and the private bathroom is fitted with a shower, and a compost toilet. Due to the cottage being so close to the stream, a flush toilet could not be installed, and instead of flushing, a cup of pine sawdust needs to be added after the toilet has been used. This keeps the toilet fresh, and speeds up the composting process. Two sleeper couches are available for children on request. For convenience, linen and bath towels are provided, and guests please need to bring their own swimming towels.
The rustic kitchen is equipped with a fridge, a gas stove, cutlery and crockery, pots and pans, as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities, and meals can be enjoyed at the dining table. The lounge has a cosy seating area and a fireplace, and opens a deck with braai facilities. The cottage is not equipped with a TV or Wi-Fi access, and limited cellphone reception is available.
The deck has a seating area and braai facilities. In summer, guests can cool down in the private plunge pool. It is advised that guests stock up beforehand as there are no local shops.
Guests can take a walk to the farm dam, with the possibility to see the local baboon troop, explore the pathways with a chance encounter of a bosbokkie, porcupine, otter, or even a caracal. 5 guests' feedbackSuch a wonderful, memorable and unique experience over our 3 nights. The cottage is an original work of art, set in a secluded and private valley on the farm, allowing for quiet surroundings and a lovely star-studded night sky. Beautiful replanted indigenous flora and fauna surround the cottage, which makes for wonderful bird life, even though we are not avid bird watchers.
This cottage was the jewel of our four day stay on the Garden Route. It is generously and thoughtfully appointed. Every piece of furniture and furnishing (including the high thread count linen) are an absolute delight to behold. The owners are kind and effective communicators. Just book this exquisite little gem. You won't be sorry and you will be longing to return long after you leave!
If you are looking for a breakaway for everything and everyone, this is the perfect venue. Perfect place to unwind and have quality time with a loved one!
We had everything we needed in a delightful setting.
Incredibly good time! Div and Allie were very friendly and helpful. Ideal place for a nice break away from the city's noise.
