Guests have access to a pool with braai facilities where guests can do some star gazing as they braai under the African sky.
Dinokeng lies 45 minutes north-east of Johannesburg and a mere 15 minutes from Pretoria/Tshwane. It is the first free-roaming Big 5 residential game reserve in Gauteng, where guests spend the day trying to spot the Big 5 or bird watching.

We would have preferred that there was a TV working in the bar for the rugby during our stay. No DStv or TV was working.
We enjoyed our stay at the lodge. The luxury tents are beautiful and we were able to spot giraffes close to our tent in the morning, we were not so lucky to get a visit from lions. The lodge needs to improve and have a restaurant as advertised. The outside aesthetics would be better with some improvement so that the lodge looks aesthetically pleasing from the gate. Plant so lawn, put a nice paved paving and just make the whole lodge a beautiful space. Invest in a Jacuzzi and maybe a Boma fire. Those would be some nice touch-ups. Team up with other lodges for guided game drives because they are much better than self-drives. The room has an AC which is great! A TV would be a great add-up in the future. I vouch for Jacuzzis, maybe add small Jacuzzis between each tent so that the couples can have even more romantic and exciting times in the lodge. I am definitely going back to this lodge in summer!
Tent No. 10 is a bit more private. Heard the lions one night and saw a lot of wildlife from the porch.
Very pleasant, we could watch wildlife, swim and barbecue.

Was a very fun and peaceful getaway, just the toaster and microwave didn't work properly and the two-plate stove.

I enjoyed it a lot.
Our arrival was not so good; GPS took us on back roads. Friendly gentleman at reception did his best as check-in, housekeeper, and barman. Had to ask for a kettle, no drain plug or wash-up cloths for dishes. Cutlery and crockery were odds and ends, not the basic equipment; we had one fork and had to ask again for these. The couch in the room had one leg bent and couldn't sit on it. Needs upkeep; maybe more hands-on in the housekeeping department checking that things are there when guests check in and not taken from rooms. The room looked exactly as on the picture, though. The walls at the cottages are not at all soundproof, and one can hear noises through these. All in all, not very relaxing. WiFi only at the bar area.
GPS takes you on a road that doesn't exist. Make sure you get on De Wagendrift road, from Hammanskraal Road.
Overall great place to visit.
We had a great time - the barman who also handles the reception and also had to clean some houses - is extremely friendly. The tent houses are cutely furnished and neat linen, but Zips needs attention. Not all the panels can close and the wind on Sunday night lifted flaps and was damn cold. Some of the pots look like toy pots - not sure who should cook with them. The cutlery was "odds and ends". We had 1 steak knife for 2 people and we should have bought a pair of tongs - ours fell apart. Just please attend to the kitchen and basic maintenance to the tents and we will go again. My parents' 2-plate stove, only had one plate that worked. I got the idea from the units that they might have shared cutlery if there were groups and never put everything back. A basic inventory per cottage can help to check. You guys have a nice place - just needs attention to detail.
The chalet at Halfway There Game Lodge is exactly the same as shown in the pictures. The only confusing part was when we were given chalet nr 1 (John Dean) instead of the Elvis Presley chalet that we had booked. Nonetheless, the John Dean chalet was clean and more or less the same as the Elvis chalet. We got stuck in traffic at first and thought we would arrive just a little after 6. We notified the manager and were told about a late arrival fee of R350, which was not mentioned in the confirmation. That was a shocker, but we managed to sort it out with the manager since we arrived later than we initially thought. It's a great place to take a break from the noisy city. I enjoyed myself a lot. I think having a game room or something similar for the kids would be a good idea, especially if it gets late to swim or if the weather doesn't allow for swimming.
The Lodge is reasonably well-kept. As we were there in winter, there was little to do, except for game watching during the day, and not much in the evening.
You can improve by having WiFi in the rooms and also TVs. And in-house restaurant even if it's for breakfast only.
Was disappointed, fridge was not on and cold when we arrived. Feel the generator to accommodate power outage could have been working more/longer, we were unable to cook or make coffee one morning.
To be honest, we were a bit disappointed with the accomodation. . Management can definitely take some time to do some maintainence inside the tents. Small fixes that will make a huge difference. . * Make sure that bedding is not torn. * Check that all the lights are working before guests arrive. Only 2 of the 6 lights inside the tent. worked. It was reported on arrival but was not fixed. * 2 of inside bathroom roof flaps were hanging loose. Inform guest before hand that there is no sharp knifes or scissors available and that you should bring your own. Same with cleaning materials such as HandyAndy and dish towels (only 1 dish towel provided).
The rooms are clean, shower tiles are very dirty. No decent knives to use to cut meat or anything with. On the Thursday night we were there they refused to turn on the generator. Grass in the pool. Simple wine glasses.
Room is very neat and tidy. It is showing signs of being old and needs some TLC. We were only 2 guests, the self-catering cutlery/crockery would not work for 4 people.
Awesome stay, comfortable, clean my family and I had an amazing time. We will definitely be back!
Everything you need for self catering, heard lions 2 nights in a row, self drive game drives very nice, can also book for a guide, units very tidy, just had a water pressure problem.
Everything for a self-catering unit was available. The bathroom and especially the bathtub definitely need to be renovated.

Beautiful surroundings but the downer was there was not restaurant to have a romantic meal. I would definitely recommend Halfway There but people need to be aware the there is no restaurant other than the ones at the other lodges. Website shows a full on restaurant, this needs to be removed.
The Audrey Hepburn room was very neat and well equipped and we had a very nice stay. There are a few things I would like to mention. The towels are very small, so if you like a big towel, bring your own instead. The walls are not very soundproof and we had to hear the neighbors sitting and talking all night until after 2 in the morning. There is soap and a sponge for washing dishes, but no drying cloths. I would also suggest that guests are informed in advance of load shedding times.
Air conditioner gas was empty. It would be good if there was a booklet in the unit with things to do, restaurants etc. in the environment. The clerk at the counter is very friendly, but has no knowledge of the area himself.
Directions poor. Posh Funksions was the real name and not Halfway There.
Website says Big 5, but that's not true at all. Probably in certain places. We drove 4 hours to see wildlife. Just 2 zebras and 2 goats, that's all. WiFi does not work in rooms. Will have to ask friends about the best places to go and get value for money instead. Quite a pity.
I would like to bring this up to you that there was squirrel that kept coming from the roof, running on top of the roof. The hot water in the bathroom tap comes out very slowly. The shower release dirty water first when you open the tap. Kitchen utensils are not enough, there was no egg lifter and wooden spoon for cooking pap. But over all l am happy.

Friendly staff. Just a pity the restaurant was not in operation due to Covid, but quite a few other lodges in Dinokeng have restaurants. Would think that Halfway Lodge could open a restaurant with safety? They have a snack bar, but there is hardly anything available.
Was nice, they could have just put a little more effort into providing information and map, especially for first time visitors, beds very hard and pillows, otherwise it was okay for a weekend.

Had a great stay, only disappointed that the Jacuzzi was not working and we would have loved to make use of it. Very quiet, peaceful place, exactly what my partner and I where looking for. Saw a couple of animals during our game drive. Wish we had booked more days, but did not have enough money to do so. Over all our stay was great.

It was a lovely break. Quiet beautiful surroundings. Fantastic experience with the wild animals very close to you. Clean tidy accommodation. Luxury tented accommodation. Delicious restaurant and beautiful pool. Very interesting game drives. And of course excellent service and friendly staff.
Alma and her team are a winning combination, the food was very good and we left there as friends, we ran out during breakfast to see elephants on the wire, what a great experience. Our stay of 4 days was just too short.
Over all the facilities are very good. Small things missing like pillows on the pool chairs and no reception area. Restaurant for dinners can do with an upgrade.
I finished thanking them on Facebook and further marketed them by showing everyone photos of our getaway session.

No reception from management, and members of staff smoking in restaurant which is unpleasant, and against the law. Bedding torn. Resort does not qualify as 4 star. Furthermore nice and quiet resort which is well located and enjoyed it.
The units are beautiful and the bed enormous. The fridge fully stocked with all types of drinks is a definite bonus. Although, we were disappointed to get the Marilyn Monroe room instead of Elvis Presley as the reservation was and the boma was not lit. Restaurant and menu not up to standard. The hall is recommended for large functions or weddings. Think Halfway there's focus is more on reception and functions than the accommodation of customers.
Very nice clean and tidy room. Would stay there again anytime. Just a pity the food at the restaurant is very expensive.

Accommodation is offered in a range 4 self-catering chalets with an old Hollywood theme such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Audrey Hepburn and James Dean, in addition to 6 en-suite luxury self-catering tents, which provide prove our guests with a unique African experience. Guests have access to a pool with braai facilities where guests can do some star gazing as they braai under the African sky.
