64 guests' feedbackVery nice stay, the staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast was fantastic.
Very friendly staff. Really nice place to sleep over.
Friendly reception and very nice breakfast.
The room did not have a shower, only a bathtub. The sink was badly cracked. The room only had one dim light that worked, so we mostly used the bedside lights. The walls had 4 random blocks of white paint on them as if they wanted to paint the room. The food was excellent and the man at the bar lacks some "people skills". There had been a private function at the restaurant section and we were turned away by the bar man when we wanted to buy water that evening because we were not part of the party.
The walls in the room as well as the shower were dirty.
Thank you for email and opportunity to provide feedback on our experience with the Hamlet Country Lodge. Your booking confirms that we can take occupation from 14h00. We arrived there at 15h15 and we had to wait, because the person who allocates the room is not there, he has gone home. We tried to call you guys, didn't answer your phones either. We later went to the one person who was there in sight and told him to please. the owner's contact number for me to call him. We had a function starting at 16h00 and we still had to get dressed for the function. After a while we were allocated a room. We also asked the bartender what time they serve breakfast since our stay includes breakfast. He said they open the kitchen at 07h00 in the morning. We had a full program and the time suited us well as we had to attend a funeral in Caledon again from Hamlet. We left the hotel at 07h20 without breakfast, the place was lost at that time of the morning no staff on duty or no security. We had to go out the back door to get out of the building. We are unhappy about the reception and departure. Staff are not trained. We hope that the owner helps all the less fortunate with jobs at his lodge. The hotel is surrounded with road workers, a large number of them sitting in the courtyard and there is no place outside for the visitors. We were shocked at the number that was there, I believe that you should mention on the advertisement that it is actually a backpackers and not a lodge or hotel, one has different expectations when one sees the name lodge or hotel. We will definitely not be staying there again, we have seen better options after research for much less money. We feel people are being misled with the ad. Indoors is not what we expected from a lodge.
Lovely staff. Enjoyed our stay.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was of excellent quality. The bar and restaurant definitely gets a 5-star rating. The rooms need a bit of attention, but we still had a very good night's rest after a long day on the road and the few missing luxuries didn't matter too much to us. After all, it was just to stay the night after a long journey. We will definitely stay there again.
The state of the room is not good, the door is broken, damaged, looks like someone punched it, damage looks like someone tried to break into the room. The bathroom is, well, the sink has cracks, the toilet cistern is broken (cracked). I did not get breakfast even after they asked me what time I wanted to eat, I said 8:30 as I had to travel to another wedding, no one from the hotel was even there at 8:30, they only arrived just before 9 am, by then it was too late to eat. Very unhappy with the price and what I got (did not get). Will not use them again.
The room light and the bathroom light were out of order. The chair has broken places, the bed mat has broken places. Down tile in the bathroom. Shower door below dirty and boarded up. The door is slightly detached from the wall and cannot open or close without being lifted. The dustbins do not have plastic bags in them, rubbish is placed directly in the bin. Bathroom trash cannot be opened with foot, one has to lift the lid by hand. Hanging cabinet has a hole in the bottom. The door does not close tightly. The bathroom curtain does not fit the opening, the room curtains only close the opening when drawn and are certainly not -3 star standard / quality. Walls have spots that peel off. We received 2 keys one for the outside door in the corridor, and one for our room. Both keys unlock both the room and the outer door in the corridor. This means all the room's keys can unlock all the rooms!
The service, friendly reception and people are what made the stay enjoyable. Food is also very tasty and value for money.
We stayed for one night at Hamlet Country lodge purely because a friend suggested we stop at Prince Alfred Hamlet (apparently a nice little historical town) on our way to Sutherland. It was a disappointing experience, as there is absolutely nothing to see in this town, except for the Gydo pass. The lodge is situated on the main busy road, with lots of traffic and Friday night street noise. The lodge itself is clean and trying hard to preserve its old glory, but is suitable for an overnight stop only. If in the area, rather look for accommodation in Ceres, which is only 10 min away.
Room was not ready after 3 pm. Restaurant service slow. Short update.
The staff were very helpful and we had a great time in the bar area and restaurant. What delicious food. Facilities are old but very clean.
Spacious rooms, friendly staff, parking, quiet area.
Stunning place with the nicest staff. Made us feel at home immediately.
We have the Lodge because picked its good reviews and found it really was that good. Friendly service, large and comfortable room and clean bathroom. The dinner and breakfast were well prepared and tasty (bobotie personally made by the owner). The old-world charm of the hotel has been retained, but is practically and comfortably furnished.
I was really surprised with this hotel. I have to say I wasn't expecting much when I booked. The rooms are very neat and clean. It was quite cold, but when we got there around 7 o'clock the aircon was already on and the room was wonderfully warm. A delicious fire was burning in the restaurant and bar. The food and service were great. I was pleasantly surprised when I got into bed and found there was an electric blanket on the bed and it was already on. I would definitely not hesitate to stay here again.
Neat and clean room. Peaceful area, biggest compliment goes to the kitchen - delicious meals.
Slept well, clean and tidy. Highly recommended.
We had a lovely stay at Hamlet Country Lodge. There was ample, secure parking, the room was spacious and the air conditioning was welcome. The staff were always friendly and helpful and the food at the restaurant was delicious.
Very convivial atmosphere. People make you feel welcome. Food is also great!
The Hamlet is a cozy place to sleep. Good value for money and mostly everything as expected. The big plus and best part of the experience is hanging out in the bar in the evening with the locals and travelers. The music is nostalgic 60s and 70s in the early evening and the atmosphere allows strangers to mingle easily.
Thank you for a wonderful night's rest at Hamlet Country Lodge. Friendly reception. Large, neat room with everything necessary. I will definitely stay there again.
Very nice stay. Will definitely stay there again.
My husband and I slept well there. The breakfast was also filling. On arrival we were initially disappointed, because our room had two beds instead of had a double bed, as I had booked. However, Monja kindly explained that the double-bed room's air conditioning had suddenly broken down. We definitely appreciated the coolness above a double bed!
We spent one night in a lodge during a children's tennis tournament on Ceres. We enjoyed a very nice lunch and dinner in the lodge and were surprised by the large portions. My wife and I could relax in the bar while the children ran around safely outside. Many thanks to our host Hennie and his staff for a lovely evening. We can definitely recommend the lodge.
We really enjoyed our stay. The staff are some of the friendliest and most helpful I have ever encountered. This place is such good value for money that it's a real shame that the interior is so unimaginative. The beautiful old building will come into its own so much more if the interior matches it. The dining room has a fireplace, but there are no comfortable seats by it. With the result that one cannot sit and read comfortably anywhere as the light in the rooms is very poor.
Very nice stay, the bar guests were only noisy until 2 o'clock in the morning.
Warm welcome. Food excellent. Arranged for friends to come and barbecue and everything was neatly provided for me from salad to plates.
All good except traffic which makes a lot of noise all night long! Difficult to get rest there, traffic in front of the building is too bad..
The breakfast can only be with free drinks, e.g. my child drinks juice but had to pay extra for it while coffee and tea were included. You also cannot get a second free cup of coffee.
We arrived at 14:00 on the Saturday afternoon. The noise from the bar could be heard from outside in the street where we parked. We waited about 15 minutes at the front door, ringing the bell, until someone eventually saw us and let us in. We were then informed that we did not have a reservation. After another 15 minutes, we eventually got a room that we were not impressed with at all. The bathroom only had a very small bath. There was no way to wash your hair. The liquid soap container at the basin could not be used. The fridge made such a noise that we had to switch it off just to get some sleep. The room was quite neat with clean white linen and towels.
We arrived on Boxing day at the check-in time and no one was in the hotel. We had to call for it to be opened up. We were unaware that the restaurant was going to be closed so I cannot comment on the quality of the dinner but the breakfast the following morning was pretty good. The room was clean and neat however the fridge smelled really bad. My review maybe bias because of the public holiday but this was our experience.
We recommend the accommodation and have very good food, value for money.
Very friendly staff. Rooms clean and comfortable.
Very good experience, friendly people. Food is very nice.
A safe haven for two older ladies in beautiful, neat rooms with everything that you need, and a delicious breakfast.
Can definitely recommend. Great value for money.
I can highly recommend the lodge for a getaway.
I would recommend this place with an open mind. Especially the clean warm bed!! Friendly reception and the DSTV with all channels available was a bonus. Thank you very much for LekkeSlaap!
At arrival I found the fridge wasn't cleaned properly after the previous guests left. Luckily the staff immediately responded and cleaned it properly. The people were friendly and very helpful! Would definitely stay there again. I would just suggest that they lock the parking gate at night, as I was there with my motorbike.
Neat rooms, sufficient warm blankets.
Peaceful atmosphere and friendly folks.
See stars.
On arrival everyone was so friendly and helpful. We ate at the restaurant and the food was fantastic. The room was beautiful and clean. Bedside lamps were on and the TV set to the rugby channel so my husband was in seventh heaven. We liked that the aircon was on when we entered the room. Would definitely stay here again.
Good value for money. Had a nice stay, watched rugby on the big screen in the bar and enjoyed a very nice breakfast.
The owner helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was not neglected and very tasty. Bar nice as well as reception area nice antiques. Rooms are old and with bedding and curtains and towels, no desire to sleep there. Bathroom if flanged together and sloppy with tiles and shelves and especially the toilet. Double shower convenient but needs upgrading. Would never recommend it.
Very good and friendly service! Helped me at one in the morning. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. You definitely get your money's worth. Breakfast was fantastic and the food is a lot! Will visit again!
Really worth it - rooms were neat and double shower was wonderful. Dining hall has a lovely fireplace - dinner was great - Cape friendliness from the staff. Rugby on the big screen TV was a bonus. Will call again anytime!
We stayed here for one night on a motorbike tour. The rooms are neat and clean, the food is delicious and everything is very reasonable. The rooms are heated well! The owner, Hennie, is very involved with the management of the lodge. He accommodated us wonderfully and even made space for extra friends who accompanied us.
I stayed only for one night therefore it was a short experience. However I would return most definitely if the need to visit Prince Albert Hamlet arises.
Very neat and clean with all the necessary facilities.
Nice beds. Good food. Unfortunately smoking is allowed in bar. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great place to rest after a long day on the road.
Slept well. Will go back again.
See the stars.
From the moment you walk into the Hamlet Country Lodge, you feel special. The accommodation is very neat, clean and attention is paid to detail which is important to me. It is perfect for someone who takes a lot of business trips. Here you still get value for money. The meals are delicious, fresh and served by friendly staff. Nothing is too much to ask of the staff of the lodge. I travel a lot for business, and my accommodation in the Hamlet/Ceres area will definitely be at the Hamlet Country Lodge.
Unfortunately we were only there for one night's stay. Thanks for the hospitality and friendliness!
It was quite cold, but the place to stay was nice. Not too cold or hot.
The room had a lot of dust and was not clean at all, there was no secure parking. The gate stayed open 24 hours of the day.
