Beautiful decor with paintings and photographs for a homely atmosphere. Alarm system for peace of mind. Very clear communication with extremely complete instructions how the alarm and gas fireplace work. We don't come to Clarens very often, but will definitely stay here again.

The place is very spacious and super clean. Everything you could need is there. The inverter for the TV and rechargeable light bulbs throughout the house during load shedding was a big plus, as was the full alarm system for peace of mind. Would stay there again anytime.

Hannics retreat was a treat. The house is tastefully furnished. The kitchen is fully supplied for self-catering. They have a pod coffee machine. Just bring your own pods. They have a gas fireplace that kept us nice and cosy. It was a luxurious stay and we will definitely book it again.
The house is well equipped and tastefully furnished. The photos definitely need to be replaced as the house has new furniture here and there. The braai area is delicious, toasted on the stoep. It's centrally located, walking distance to town. I just couldn't have discovered the third bedroom's underfloor heating.

The accommodation is good. Unfortunately, the roads to Clarens face a problem in terms of poor maintenance.
Future guests should note that only 2 of the 3 rooms have underfloor heating. The geyser is small for 6 persons to bathe or shower, especially in winter.
Extra mile was taken to make our stay a pleasure - it felt like a cosy home with thoughtful touches. Electric blankets saved the day because the cold front decided to blow in. Well-equipped kitchen. Easy access to town and trails, parkrun. We will be back.

All of the underfloor heating worked and kept us warm. Bathrooms were clean and the water nice and hot. The Nespresso machine was there as advertised. The only issue was a lack of Wi-Fi which was unexpected. Otherwise, great spot.

Great, friendly service from checking in to checking out, I have to compliment the cleaning staff, not often do you find so cleanliness. The house is well stocked for self-catering. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.
The only criticism/suggestion I can make is that the house is a bit cold because the sun cannot shine on the veranda. Maybe consider trimming one of the trees by the gate to promote sunshine on the porch. Only a suggestion.

We thoroughly enjoyed our night and were sad that we did not have more time to spare to enjoy Clarens and the house and all it offers. We will definitely book here again in the future. I enjoyed the fact that we had 3 rooms as we were travelling with my daughter and son who are in their late twenties so having the privacy of their own space was welcomed. I highly recommend Hannic's Retreat.

Would definitely recommend the place was very nice. The owner was very helpful and really made an effort. Only the alarm that didn't work with the button when we pressed the button it was panic and the security came out, they will just have to fix it for the future if you really have a problem.

This is one of the best places I have ever stayed in my life. There is everything you can think of to need, right down to a dishwasher and a Nespresso machine! The house had everything you could possibly need in a home away from home. Absolutely top-notch. From the underfloor heating, indoor gas fire, electric blankets, bathroom heaters, to the welcome glass of sherry and the fully equipped kitchen (including a dishwasher). The house sleeps 6 but there were more than 6 knives, forks, etc!!! It is within walking distance to the town center but is in a lovely peaceful area.

There is not just one word to sum up how nice it was at Hannic's Retreat. The photos on Google are true, but cannot capture the peaceful atmosphere. It was a piece of heaven! And coming from the Vaal Triangle which is flat, it was so beautiful to see the mountain from the porch. The Retreat is also very well looked after and I thought it was quite new until I looked at the guestbook. And yes, it's a shame that people don't control their children! The house is very well furnished! And with style! We chose Hannic's Retreat by mistake. But I think in terms of location, it is very well located. Enough of everything to not have to wash dishes all the time (I have a little brother killed in places that have exactly six of everything and nothing extra). It was cold outside, but wonderfully cozy inside with underfloor heating and electric blankets on all the beds, as well as blankets in the living room by the fireplace. Everything in the guest house was neat, perfect and spotless. It was a weekend getaway that felt like a week but which I will definitely extend by a few days next time. Thank you very much!!

Good location, nice view, excellent facilities, beautifully decorated and very spacious.
Lovely house complete with own kitchen and appliances and large TV. 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. House is secured by alarm. Explanation is lacking. Has a company that rents out little service. They refer you through to the owner who is not reachable. Garage did not open. No WiFi in this house. Nice town within walking distance where you can go safely in the dark. Nice meal in Steakhouse on Churchstreet (With WiFi).

At Hannic's Retreat, accommodation is offered in a 3-bedroom, self-catering unit that can accommodate up to 6 guests. There are 2 bedrooms that are each furnished with a queen-size bed while the third bedroom has 2 single beds. All beds have electric blankets. The main bedroom features a heated en-suite bathroom. The second, full bathroom, with a separate toilet, is also heated for your comfort.
The lounge, dining room, and kitchen are in an open-plan layout. The lounge features a gas fireplace and a TV with selected DStv channels. The kitchen is fully equipped for a self-catering stay, featuring a fridge-freezer combination, a 4-plate gas stove with an electric oven, a dishwasher and a microwave. Outside, guests can relax on the verandah with a built-in braai facility while enjoying the mountain views. A single lock-up garage is also available.
The centre of the village is a 7-minute stroll away where you will find a number of art galleries and a variety of shops offering a wide range of interior décor and souvenirs. There is also a number of coffee shops and restaurants for a late breakfast or dinner.
