It was off the books, the unit was very clean, tidy and very safe.
Enjoyed our stay very much. Clean and in a beautiful setting.
So spacious. Comfy bed. Lovely aircon. Enormous entertainment area even though only three sleepers. Could spend a lot of time here! Big positives - a shower caddy with hooks (sounds silly but you never find them!), huge bath and shower (inside and outside). Small negatives - no toaster, single-ply toilet paper. Also no lamps or candles for load-shedding. Paul was super helpful, would recommend Haywards to anyone.

Our stay was great. Good value for money. Good communication between ourselves and the owner.
Check communication from owner except 1 WhatsApp with gate codes etc. Coffee and tea station was empty and dirty. Towels had makeup marks. Door lock broken and needs to be locked. Toilet keeps dripping and keeps you from sleeping.

Very nice stay. The cabins are comfortable and the bathroom very nice. All complaint is that they should just make sure that the oven is clean before new guests check in. Other than that we had a nice stay.
Lovely and very private chalets. The outdoor shower and bath under the stars reveal the level of privacy you will enjoy here. The reception is totally electronic and extremely effective. The unit could do with a slight upgrade, sorry the ATKV resorts are the standard here with e.g. Snappy Chef products etc. compare Klein Kariba e.g.
With loadshedding, the power was off most of the time, and it was bitterly hot in the apartment. No generator. The pool was not well maintained.
Haywards is a very nice place, but our cottage was not up to standard. We were moved from cottage 5 to cottage 1 where the owner said we had more privacy, but it wasn't really like that because the campers look out onto the porch. Also, the house was not cleaned. The floors were dusty and not mopped. The dish towel in the kitchen was dirty. There was only dish soap for 1 wash. There was no real provision for load shedding except for 1 light in the kitchen. I think we expected more for the money value. Also the bottle opener is broken, as well as there was one spoon or not sure its handle in the drawer. I think the owners can only create some attention to small things.
Aircons leaking water on inside. Bedding and towels has stains on. Main hall area floors are coming loose. Toilets not working properly. Kitchen very dirty.
Was very neat and private. The outdoor pool was a lot of fun for my little girl. We had a very nice stay.
Our weekend at Hayward's Game Lodge was wonderful. We were 2 families with small children and the lodge was just what we needed. The location is safe and quiet, but close enough to everything for fun driving around and exploring. Paul was an excellent host and allowed us to check out late after going on a leisurely game drive in the morning. Will definitely come again! The camping site also looked idyllic.
Unit was neat, clean and has everything you need. The braai area is stunning for winter and summer. The boma was a winner for the cold evenings with a separate braai. The outdoor shower and bath will be nice in the summer. The units are far enough apart to ensure privacy. We will definitely go back again!

Paul is such a warm person really a pleasure to be there.
Although we had a very nice stay, the following did bother us. The air-con started to drip on the 1st day - unfortunately the air-con is installed above the bed, so it drips on your head and on the bedding. We retired to bed. The door's lock struggled and wouldn't always close. There is no place where you can hang your towels in the bathroom, nor is there a place for your tea towel. Bedding was also not up to standard.

Will go again for sure, reserve teeming with game Paul Hayward took us on a 3 hour game drive really awesome 10 m of white rhino bull, very comfortable accommodation great swimming and barbecue had a stunning week at Hayward.
Paul was very helpful and the place has the potential to be excellent, but attention to detail is sadly lacking. The electric DB board has no cover, the bathroom mirror has fallen off, the drain is close to blocked (it might be a full septic tank, because the toilet also empties slowly). The bath inspection hatch cover and wall plugs are skew. Otherwise, pristine environment, but I'm glad my family didn't join me.
This is not a place for small children as said. None of the motorgates were working, I had to get out of my vehicle and open both gates manually. (Owner said that the gates would be fixed the day on which we arrived). There is no reception to book in by, no one shows you where your chalet is. The owner said he will be with you in 20 min, he only showed up 5 hours later. Aircon was leaking on the bed the entire time we were there. My husband had to clean the aircon filters. A piece of cornice was hanging off the ceiling, the one cupboard handle was broken so I had to put a chair in front of it so that my toddler does not hurt herself. The outside shower did not have a shower head, and the pipes were leaking. The light outside by the braai was not working, got told that he does not have spares. No hot water in the kitchen, the sink was loose, very low water pressure in the chalet. No TV or Wi-fi as advertised. The grass was only cut about 500 mm around the chalet so my toddler had to stay on the stoep or inside the entire time. We could not take a guided game drive, as there were no other people and they only take 4 people at a time, we have to pay for 4 people (we were 3 people). No self-drives as said per email. The chalet was clean. This lodge will be fine for a 1 night stay over or if you need a place to sleep for a business trip.

Hayward's was a lovely break for us and the units are very neat and the layout is very cute. We had a great time sitting in our own boma next to the fire and the added bonus of the outdoor bath was a great treat. All that did bother me was the noise from the road that runs right by the Lodge. Despite being located in the Dinokeng area, (where we hoped there would not be so much, constant traffic) the road was very noisy. Unfortunately, it completely spoiled the forest feeling.
We really enjoyed our time at Hayward's Game Lodge. We felt safe and had everything at our disposal. The lodge is located in a stunning location and close to everything. We will go again!

Unit I booked was available with broken bathroom door without a front door lock. We moved to another. No towel rails or dishtowel hooks. There are no soap dishes. The air conditioner was definitely not adequate for the size of the room.
We were very disappointed. Not at all like photos on advertisement, not worth the money. Problems we encountered: 1) Air-conditioning was too small and insufficient for size of chalet. It was melting hot. 2) Fridge did not work properly, could not keep our food cold. We had to throw away most of our food, as it went off, due to fridge not working. 3) We were only supplied with a small amount of toilet paper and the dish wash liquid holder in kitchen was empty. I had to drive and find a general store for toilet paper and dish wash liquid. 3) Our unit door could not lock, therefore, we slept at night with an unlocked door. 3) Gate access to premises was not working, kept on breaking down, we had to keep on phoning the owner, to help us get into the premises. 4) Nice bathroom, but water supply to fill bath ran so slowly, it took forever to fill. 5) No hand towel rails in bathroom to hang towels. 6) Bedding was old and sheets were torn. 7) Bath towels did not smell clean. We used our own. Very disappointing stay.

Quiet, tidy accommodation.
The chalet was beautiful, especially the bathroom! Tranquility was wonderful with birds in trees around the chalet. Heard the foxes screaming myself. The staff were very friendly and helpful. One of the men brought us wood quickly after our arrival and even got our fire going. We really enjoyed the game drive. The only problem was that there were no towel rails in the bathroom, nor room to hang the dish towels in the kitchen.
The lodge itself is nice and all the amenities are there, but I was just very disappointed because we drove all weekend in the Dinokeng reserve and didn't see any of the Big 5. When we wanted to drive on Sunday morning, my husband felt that there was no power in our brand new bakkie that we bought 2 days ago. We then saw that either a rat or a squirrel had eaten the pipes inside the engine. We drove home out of pity and then took the bakkie back to Toyota where they also confirmed that it was a rat that had eaten the broken pipes. Fortunately, Toyota replaced the pipes for free. The restuarants in the area in the Dinokeng's food is also not up to a good standard although the prices are a bit ridiculous. I would recommend Hayward Lodge for a function or birthday party but if you want to see plenty of wildlife, enjoy tasty food and want to stay in luxury as well as have 24 hour room service, the lodges in the Pilansberge are where you will get everything for sure.
