145 guests' feedbackComfortable stay. Well equipped. Beautiful surroundings. Close enough to go for a walk in mountain fynbos.
Free range of a working farm is refreshing.
Beautiful place to just relax.
We had a really nice stay - wonderfully removed from town lights we enjoyed the most beautiful night sky.
The surroundings are breathtakingly beautiful. The place is cozy and cozy with everything you need.
We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. We were able to take a few walks despite the stormy weather and would enjoy doing that again. It was special to see how much fynbos there is on the farm. We saw orchids and Ericas we are not familiar with.
Had a great time in the most beautiful surroundings. Warm welcome by the Besters! Swartskaap is a very peaceful and fully equipped cottage. The availability for sale of the delicious Hermanuspietersfontein wines is a bonus!

It was very comfortable and lovely and warm with the fireplace going the whole time. Wood is provided and that was a bonus as it was very cold so the fire was on constantly. The panoramic views of the valley were just stunning even in the rainiest of weather and lots of space for the kids to run around on the lush lawns in front of the house when the sun came out for a bit. The rooms were spacious and the beds were comfy with lots of blankets and towels for all of us.
Sociable people. Beautiful view. Wonderful house. Already planning next return.
Lovely stay and very kind and helpful host!
It was amazing. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. There was more than enough firewood. The cottage was clean and well-maintained. The indoor fireplace helped as it was very windy. Would definitely recommend.
My wife and I enjoyed the stay at Hermanuspietersfontein Cottages very much. It was quiet and very peaceful. The cottage was very clean and well equipped.
It was absolutely incredible. Hosts were incredibly welcoming. Location was gorgeous!
Great getaway in nature, hiking and biking trails on the farm and in the area, with Stanford just around the corner! Will definitely consider again in the future!
We greatly enjoyed the stay. The surroundings are magically beautiful and the cottage is accommodating and cosy.
Bathrooms are in need of an upgrade and an additional bathroom is needed for the number of rooms.
Stay was pleasant and the facilities met our needs.
Good day I would like to make you aware that the directions inside the farm are extremely poorly done and it really is not made easy to find the unit. The code sent for the gate via WhatsApp was wrong by one digit, which is an easy mistake to make, but I feel you guys can be more kind when I point it out. The one gas bottle at the unit was empty, which means that you yourselves did not test whether there was hot water. I had to change it myself and luckily there was still a gas bottle, but I would expect you to check the type of stuff before guests check in. The bathroom light that cannot be turned on separately is uncomfortable when 2 people stay in the unit, especially if you have to use the bathroom at night. The young man who then drove to the unit with the key was extremely unfriendly and would have just driven off if I hadn't stopped him. It's because of poor directions he drove to the unit. We really enjoyed it, but experience your service as poor and unfriendly.
A really lovely place to visit. Perhaps better in summer or spring when you can enjoy being outside more and could enjoy the hiking. It rained heavily while we were there (June).
Nice stay. Unfortunately it was raining and the road was muddy. Would have had a better time if the weather had been better.
4x4 required in bad weather. It is not up to 3-star standard.
What a lovely break, all the work cobwebs gone and totally rested. Tailswag has it all and more. Thank you for the hospitality, we felt so welcome. Will definitely recommend the place to stay to our acquaintances. Already longing for the beautiful view from the living area.
During the floods of 25 September 2023, my girlfriend and I were booked into Swartskaap. Black Sheep wrapped us in his warm coat and kept us safe while the storm raged around us in full swing. Our car did not survive the mudslide. Lochner went out of his way to keep us safe and comfortable amidst their own challenges with washed out bridges and roads. Without power for 3 days we were still taken care of with lovely hot water and a wonderful log fire. 10 out of 10 for friendliness and helpfulness. I will definitely go again to be able to experience the wonderful scenery and wonderful atmosphere under normal circumstances. Thanks to Lochner!
We celebrated our birthday weekend with friends and family, what a spectacular view and home! We will definitely be back. The kitchen was so nicely equipped you need nothing extra!
Was a lovely, wet weekend. The cottage has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The children played around the house every day. Was welcomed early in the morning with a beautiful diver that grazed in front of our porch. Only suggestion is to put extra lights in the master bedroom. Thank you very much for being able to share such a beautiful place with us.
Lochner welcomed us with open arms, we went wine tasting with him in the mountain. The whole weekend was a festival, the tranquility on the farm, the beauty of the farm, the safety. The little one could play and frolic on the large lawns. It's off the books. Finest wines available. Will definitely stay there again as a family and as a group. Thank you very much for the hospitality Lochner and Ida.
Would recommend anyone to go. Was our first booking and it was worth every penny.
Beauty in simplicity.
What a joy to be able to vacation so close to heaven. The accommodation has all the facilities you need, even WiFi up in the mountains. The service of Ida and her husband is incredible. They communicate easily and respond quickly to any requests, such as exchanging a gas bottle or inquiring about loadshedding. We enjoyed the time incredibly much and are already planning another visit in the spring. Would definitely recommend. There is a dirt road, but can reach the farm comfortably with a VW Polo.
Such a beautiful farm. Awesome views. Walking and Cycling. The cottage was basic but has all you need. The perfect place to unwind and switch off. We will be back soon.
Beautiful surroundings, ideal for people who want to rest.

The cottage is equipped with everything you will need for self-catering. Everything is clean and nature is beautiful. The brown water of the spring bothers us at first, but after it is explained to us that it is absolutely clean, we have a good time.
I kindly wanted to thank you for opening up your home to us over the weekend. My friend and I stayed over just one night but the moment we arrived, we immediately regretted not booking additional day(s) at Hermanuspietersfontein. It is so idyllic! Nestled between the mountains and trees - so much vastness. It was quiet and I realised that I have not heard "nothing" in a long time. I think life in the city sometimes gets so loud that we forget about the healing and peace the silence in nature can bring. . We checked in on Saturday morning. Our cottage was equipped with all the necessities - we didn't really need to bring anything extra. We had a braai for dinner underneath the stars. I cannot and will not forget how beautiful the night sky looked at that hour. It was load shedding and we decided to have a late dinner outside after stargazing. Stunning!. The next morning, we woke up to have breakfast outside and later sat on the grass looking at the animals before we checked out. (I have to add, the host invited us to check out later and we gladly accepted. ). Thank you, Ida and family. We will be back and I will be sure to recommend the accommodation to other people as well. Stay blessed.
If you want to escape to silence this is the place to be. Had a great time, recommend it to anyone looking for peace and quiet, away from the city's noise.
We have two 2 year olds and finding a place that is safe, furnished, affordable and still special is sometimes difficult. The four of us spent the whole weekend under the trees next to the house, playing and stopping properly with each other, without distractions. With the convenience of everything at our disposal and the feeling of freedom because the open. The silence and view of the scenery was exactly what we needed to wind down. We recharged properly and were very sad to leave. Would recommend to any young family/couple looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Or, if you book all the units as a couple of families and visit again and again. Very thankful this treasure is shared with the public! You will definitely see us again.
Light please only the future guests in over the brown water. For others it doesn't bother, but for me it was a problem. But it was difficult to wash the dishes in such brown water - just my opinion.
We like nature, and it was beautiful at Hermanuspietersfontein, we will go again sometime for a break I would suggest, atmosphere was good we enjoyed it a lot.
If I could say that the cottage we stayed in has a bedroom back to back with another and snoring etc is like the person is next to you so noisy! Cottage on a working farm so lots of traffic and disruptions. Loved the setting and the dirty couch could be tossed or cleaned.
It was delicious. Everything needed was there and in a very nice setting. Nice green grass with a large shade tree under which you can sit and relax. Friendly people. Will definitely visit again.
We stayed in the Stertswaai cottage. It has a wrap around patio which allows you to see the sunset, the mountains, and to sit out of the wind. It is a stunning location, far away from all the chaos. A small surprise is the colour of the farm water in the taps, but drinking water was supplied constantly. The wines were excellent. We were sad to leave and wished we had booked a longer stay. We will definitely return.
Truly a place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The Cottages are much nicer than in the photos.
My recommendation would be to have a small gas heater available - the fireplace takes too long and the smoke blew into the cottage at times.
The couch was stained, and the kitchen utensils and shower were not as clean as should be.
The house is at a beautiful location, however needs some work (cutlery fell apart, damp spots in the rooms, spots on the walls).
The accommodation is in a beautiful environment and accessible with an ordinary car. Accommodation is simple and basic as we wanted it. Enough, free wood was a bonus. Everything was clean and tidy. Quality towels and bedding was a bonus. Soap in the bathroom would have been nice.
Incredibly beautiful stay, very peaceful.
The farm is perfectly located for our requirements. The fynbos is fantastic and the customer service from the manager and his family was excellent. Wine tasting is included at no additional cost, it is appreciated.
Hermanuspietersfontein Cottages is a beautiful, peaceful destination. The cottage is excellently equipped with everything one would need during a break. The indoor braai is the perfect alternative for when the wind blows. Lochner and Ida are lovely hosts and always available.
If you want to get away from all the city hustle and bustle, traffic and lots of people, then this is the place for you! Ideal for a long weekend and longer getaway.
We just have to stay longer next time, lots to explore here. Well-equipped holiday home for 2. Everything needed was here. We had a good barbecue and very good wines in the fridge!
Was only an overnight stop, but great potential for a longer stay!
We could only stay one night and with the bad weather we saw and experienced few of the things. And so we must come back. Wine is delicious and owners are very friendly. Cottage had everything needed (the shower water might not have been that hot, but wasn't that big of a problem either). Visitors must understand that driving out to town for food and/or eating out is a short drive and must therefore plan if there are going to be a few days left.
The place is just stunning, the beautiful valleys and the trees look straight from a movie. I really enjoyed my stay here.
Beautiful place, clean, well equipped.
Postmaster cottage is more private and well appointed with good wine and barbecue utensils. Indoor braai helped against rain.
Beautiful farm with lovely views of sheep grazing in front of the cottage. And it was lambing season so we were lucky to see many newly born lambs. Lots of places to walk or ride your bike. Very peaceful if you want to get away from it all. An added bonus is that there is both an indoor and outdoor braai, so you can braai whatever the weather may bring.
We enjoyed the fynbos walk up to Arendsnes. The proteas, ericas and vineyards are beautiful this time of year.
We were a family with 3 small children and grandma and grandpa. The house is well located on the farm with beautiful views and sunsets. We had a nice walk and rode MTB in the mountain, will come again.
Exceptional hospitality from the host and hostess, clean and tidy place to stay. Truly a wonderful experience to become quiet again and find yourself.
This space was secluded and boasts nature all round!
The location and panorama together with good weather made Hermanuspietersfontein the perfect getaway for our family. Besides the nice visit, we rested so well that even the whole house doesn't wake up until after 08:00 in the morning. For us, little was better than enjoying a glass of Hermanuspietersfontein among the vineyards while the fireplace was burning. This is definitely the place for a nature lover and book reader.
The beautiful hiking trails with beautiful fynbos were a highlight. A fireplace with plenty of wood and firelighters was a welcome bonus on a cold, windy day. Well equipped kitchen.
Friendly reception. If you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place. Beautiful surroundings, challenging hiking trail with an incredible variety of fauna and flora. Indoor and outdoor barbecue with enough wood. Delicious wine that is available on the farm.
This is a lovely place.
Our first night was our most challenging night. We had little blitz and 5 matches to make a fire and light a gas stove. But luckily I'm an outdoorsy person and was able to handle the pressure with a lot of grace. We also only had one lamp, the other's flint was out. But everything but that was perfect. Very early the next morning they delivered the blitz and matches to us and also toilet paper. The hosts are very nice and they are always contactable, nothing is too much for them. They will also have to leave extra batteries for emergencies, because our gyser's batteries failed, but I realized that and replaced the flashlight's battery with it (it's the same size). I think they will have to inform guests about the batteries at the geyser. But we enjoyed every moment.
We loved our stay. Perfect space to switch off and get away from the busy day-to-day life.
Units are very neat, people are friendly and environment is absolutely fantastic.
From the time we confirmed our booking to our departure we received nothing but professional service. Thank you Ida and Lochner for your hospitality and for sharing your paradise with your fellow human beings. We were a group of 16 and all were amply accommodated. Big highlight of the weekend was that extra pampering ride up the mountain with delicious, cozy wine tasting on the deck. We wish you goodness and favor for your future. Greetings the Herberts, Besters, Nagels, Erasmus, Wambach's and Scherman's.
Very nice cottage on the farm. Quiet and everything needed.
The location was away from it all and very peaceful and relaxing.
We absolutely loved our stay at Swartskaap Cottage. We went on a lovely hike and saw lots of spoor. We also visited the surrounding wine farms which were divine. Ida was lovely and welcoming. Will 100% be back!
We rented the house for 7 people and I'm disappointed that I never booked for a whole week, the pictures do not do it any justice. It's truly one of the best places I have ever stayed in.
Tailswaai was a nice and cozy house for indoor and outdoor barbecues and socializing. The house is very nicely furnished and everything you need is there.
Very nice place. They also have wine available for purchase.
We spent 3 days in a most beautiful natural setting. Kleinboet was the ideal cottage for us with beautiful views all round. The hosts were very accommodating, we appreciated the wood that was more than sufficient and the wine was excellent. We were fortunate to see a newborn lamb and left there enriched and refreshed.
No toaster, inside cottage Tatty.
The swim in the warm black water pond was special. Very beautiful landscape.
Wanted peace and quiet, and got it.
Friendly and helpful farm people who received us. Clean and tidy house with lots of silence. Delicious indoor and outdoor braai facilities.
They would like to tell people that there is no hot water in the shower.
The houses have a particularly beautiful view of the valley. The furniture is tired but the bed did sleep well. Everything needed for a comfortable stay.
So calm. You can take a deep breath and find yourself again.
This is a beautiful location but very remote in its location and is not for everybody. This could be mentioned on the site. The accommodation we stayed at was very basic but clean. The water is brown and not drinkable. There are no cupboards to pack clothing into. Bathroom very basic no shelves. Generally a very nice stay but the price could be adjusted to accommodate the type of accommodation supplied.
We enjoyed every moment of our time there! Stertswaai Cottage is beautiful, very well furnished, stunning views. Everything clean and tidy. Lochner and his daughter were the best hosts. Made us feel very much at home. Wine from the top shelves! Thank you thank you!
Delicious mountain water in showers, but it brown. Can carry drinking water.
Wine tasting with a beautiful view of the mountain, nice walking and cycling route. We took drinking water although mountain water is fully drinkable. Lochner and Ida very friendly and helpful. Will definitely visit again.
A peaceful and stunning retreat from stressful day to day life. So many stars at night and a smoke free indoor fireplace to keep you warm and cosy. Our hosts really went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable and safe on our excursions around the farm.
Ida, the owner, received us very kindly. The house is beautifully equipped with everything you could need. The natural beauty is an experience. I would definitely recommend Hermanuspietersfontein.
Beautiful view where you can see stars from the stoep with a fire in the background.
It was wonderful for me to visit there. Hermanus Pieters was my father's great grandfather and my grandmother always told us his story. She told us that he was a teacher too and funnily enough when I googled it they said nothing about it! My grandmother was Millicent Jane Pieters. I longed for my father so much. I wanted to tell him so badly! The water also reminded me terribly of the farm on Riviersonderend (Oubos) where we used to visit as children. The water there was also so brown. But I think it was Groenewald family (my grandfather was Jacobus Petrus Wessel Groenewald and so was my father). My father always told us that his great grandfather went fishing at the old harbor in Hermanus. He had a certain 'hole' and when he casts there, he pulls out fish! My father was born at Lindeshof. I am so sorry that he passed away and I can't ask any more! The most interesting thing of all was that a school friend let me know (after I posted it on Facebook) that her mother-in-law is also a great-great-grandchild of Hermanus Pieters! It was wonderful for me there and we will definitely come and stay there again!
Neat accommodation, as described. Warm welcome by Ida and Lochner. Beautiful farm with beautiful hiking trails and lawn for children to enjoy.
The staff are friendly and very helpful.
The location is fantastic and quiet. Can't ask for a better place to rejuvenate the soul. Ida is incredibly accommodating and helpful. Delicious wine and more than enough firewood available for a cold winters night.
It was a lovely stay, would go back, little personal touches are lovely. The owners are friendly and attentive. The only suggestion would be to replace the utensils and cook ware, they are a bit warn. But otherwise a lovely stay.
Magnificient views. We loved exploring the fynbos-covered hills surrounding the cottage. Very comfortable with everything we needed. Indoor braai worked well on a cold stormy evening. The little, quaint town of Napier was 30 minutes away and we enjoyed a lovely lunch there.
Peaceful with a breathtaking view! A pleasant, relaxed, yet sophisticated experience. A farm atmosphere combined with the enjoyment of luxury accommodation and the opportunity to enjoy the estate's wine.
The owners are very hospitable and the accommodation is painfully neat, well equipped and has beautiful views. We had a nice braai and enjoyed the outdoor shower with hot water. We will definitely return.
We absolutely loved our stay in the Swartskaap cottage! The hosts were incredibly kind and Lochner took the time to take us on a tour of the farm. The cottage was perfectly stocked for a braai and we had everything we needed, including a delicious selection of wine (honesty bar). We can not fault anything. We can not wait to return one day.
The house is top shelf. Everything one could need is available. Quiet and safe. Perfect escape from the city's hustle and bustle.
What an amazing setting - comfortable. Will definitely be back.
This is the 2nd time we have used the cottages. It is very convenient and close to the wedding venue. We had a wonderful stay in Stertswaai. The house has everything you need and more. Ina was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend the place for a family or a group of friends together, any time of the year. The fireplace definitely helped with the lovely rain that fell outside. Thank you very much Ina for all your effort.
Our extended family went to celebrate Grandpa's 78th birthday. It was wonderful to be able to stay there in nature, with enough luxuries to properly enjoy the visit. The bedding is really lovely and clean and quality! We could just sit and visit, we could walk, we could barbecue. We enjoyed it tremendously!
We arrived late at night in the dark. What a great surprise with sunrise the next morning - you see the scenery between the mountains. Fresh air. Ideal place to also ride a bike with your family.
Your soul rests here. Only sheep bleating and every now and then a vehicle's sounds you hear. Well equipped for a short stay.
Code at gate didn't work and precious time was lost. No response from any numbers we called. We couldn't take a hot shower. No water from hot water taps. Other than that, the place was basic but tidy.
A lovely peaceful setting and the view is wonderful over the farm and the sound of sheep in the morning when you wake up is heavenly.
Will return again and again and recommend it to all.
We were pleasantly surprised with the lovely surroundings and the silence on the farm. Only sheep and turtle doves are heard. The cottage was very well stocked with crisp bedding. We will definitely go back again.
Friendly reception, enough wood for barbecue, everything needed is almost provided. You will find silence, peace and peace of mind here.
Very nice surroundings and the house is neat and spacious for 8 people.
The house is very tidy, there is an indoor braai, towels and enough blankets. I would definitely recommend this accommodation. The environment is nice and quiet and incredibly beautiful. The road is a bit bad, but we drove a small car.
Very lovely place. Very well equipped and good for a weekend break from the city.
It is wonderfully quiet, and you can really enjoy watching the stars not too far from the Cape.
Tranquil vineyards, beautiful mountains, millions of bright stars and soulful peace will be found here! Thanks for recharging our batteries for 2018!
HPF is managed by wonderful people, that is always available to assist with anything that one might need. The view is fantastic and one gets more value for money at the lovey guesthouse. The only negative might be the long gravel road leading to the accommodation.
Very nice stay as it is very quiet with no noise. People are also very friendly and helpful. Would stay there again anytime.
Lovely stay in beautiful and well-equipped Tertswaai. Breathtaking surroundings.
The accommodation is comfortable and the cottages well equipped. What would be a valuable addition are hooks and hangers in all the bedrooms so that one can at least hang one's clothes. The host and hostess are friendly, hospitable, helpful and well informed about the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Just the place for a tired city person to rest.
We really enjoyed our stay. Was a pleasure to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Will definitely be back.
Inconvenient sink without plug and the bathroom was without hot water on the 1st night and kettle rusted inside. The farm foreman not accommodating.
We liked almost everything about the little place, especially the enormous bed and sumptuous linen. But what spoiled things for us was that the indoor fireplace we were looking forward to drinking some of their lovely red wines around, smoked us out completely, so much so we couldn't see each other! And when we tried to open any of the three fanlight windows none of these worked properly either, so yes, a bit of a blight on an otherwise lovely little cottage.
If you are happy with a clean bed and shower you'll be happy here. Basic but nice cottage.
The wine farm is breathtakingly beautiful, and it was difficult not to constantly whip out your camera to take pictures. Being from the city, the peace and quiet we experienced at this lovely cottage was just what we needed. The host, Ida, is an absolute delight. We were so sad to leave the farm and go back to the hustle and bustle of city life. This is truly a gem, and we can't wait to return for another stay!
We arrived to the most beautiful wine farm with amazing views. We were there for my wife's birthday and she was very happy with my surprise. The cottage we stayed in was absolutely perfect. The weather wasn't the best, but on the day it rained we sat inside and lit a fire and just relaxed. If you are going to have a day inside take a comfy camping chair as the sofa is a bit small for 2 people to lay on. On the Saturday we went into Stanford and went wine tasting and for lunch. The rest of the time we just relaxed at the amazing cottage. I would definitely stay here again!
You will see us again!
We had a lovely break at the Postmaster's. The accommodation was exactly as described but the views and tranquility exceeded all expectations. We had a great time and will definitely go back. Thank you very much for a wonderful visit.
Excellent for those who want to break away from the city. Natural scenery is beautiful and the sound of sheep in the mornings just what one needs to relax. Nice braai facilities with lots of wood. Would need to bring my mountain bike with me next time to explore the routes!
Cottages clean, tidy, well equipped and located in a beautiful environment. The right place to come and relax and clear your head. There is wood for braai and an 'honesty bar' to buy HPF wines which are on a shelf in the cottage. Bring your mountain bike or your running and walking shoes, you can enjoy walking and pedaling in the area. HPF cottages see us again, this time for several days.
Incredible accommodation. The silence is heavenly, it's not every day that you can hear the sheep graze. Wonderful views over the mountains and Lochner and Ida are incredible hosts.
Very good facilities, comfortable with beautiful views. Nice and peaceful and quiet and it's lovely exploring the area.
Very peaceful and lovely atmosphere. The toilet seat was broken, but it wasn't a problem.
Wonderful breakaway from the city, amongst the mountains, wind mills and sheep. Here your soul gets rejuvenated by the farm life and nature. The mountain routes deliver the most beautiful views of various farms in the region. Would definitely come relax here again.
HPF exceeded my expectations, I would love to spend time there again.
The cottage was very secluded which was perfect for a break away from the city with no cell phone reception. We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and would definitely return.
The cottage was particularly clean and tidy with all the amenities a self-catering accommodation needs. Bedding was clean, fresh and very comfortable to sleep in. I will definitely stay there again in the future.
Will definitely go again.
Beautiful farm! We competed in the MTB Tour and it was by chance that we drove through this farm. The cottage was perfect for us. The only critisism I have is that the gravel road is a bit long. They should perhaps inform clients to take all their food and drinks with them as shops are guite far. Luckily the farmer and his wife could help with supper on Friday!
House was very well equipped. Very nice without power and cell signals. Stayed 2 days but the peace made it feel like a week. The only negative point is the dirt road that leads to the house.
We only stayed in Kleinboet because we were at a wedding at Beloftebos. However, the stay was exactly what we needed. I would love to stay here again.
Directions were not correct, we had to call the owner for directions. Perhaps instead use beacons along with the distances to describe farm roads. Bathroom was dirty.
This place is the perfect getaway destination for people who want to escape the city buzz. The house is well equipped with all the necessities. Our host took us on a sightseeing tour all around the farm and we were surprised by the hospitality and care. The peace and scenery were a real treat and the best way to end off a busy year. Thanks... we'll come again!
We were 8 friends staying for the weekend. We stayed in Posmeester Cottage. The house is very neat and is equipped with everything you'd need. It was a calm, beautiful environment. I would recommend it any time.
