94 guests' feedbackOur stay was quiet and very plaisant. Sarah was available each time we had enquiries.
Delicious! It was perfect. We will definitely be going again.
Friendliest staff on earth, unit is well equipped for a nice getaway, was only warm at night when Eskom shut off the power, but will be very nice in the winter. Note, only fly fishing is allowed, so leave your black bass gear at home.
Road to destination is good. Environment is peaceful and beautiful. Pool was nice and clean. Dogs were a delight.
We were met by 2 wonderful staff who showed us to the house and made sure we were comfortable. And that we were, including the bed. The whole house was well equipped and quite luxurious and very private. The walks around the farm were great as well as the scenery. 2 nights were just too short but were wonderful. We'll be back!
Very friendly reception. Terribly beautiful surroundings and outstanding accommodation. Sorry we only stayed 1 night. Everything you need is there to relax peacefully.
The view and setup were amazing! A lot of money must have been invested in setting up the trout farm with dams and a hatchery; unfortunately, lots of wear and tear are showing on the buildings and furniture. My back is in complete pain from the mattress being old and saggy. Take your own towels; these towels don't cover much and are very thin. Try and sleep in the single beds; they are much more comfortable. Bonfire wood was provided daily!
Very calm, thank you. Could relax wonderfully.
Well equipped comfortable cottage but the rest of the advertised facilities were disappointing. No game to be seen and inaccessible river, except a small entrance at the weir.
Cottage was well equipped with plenty of firewood and comfortable beds.
We stayed in The Farm House. It's very private and has beautiful views. The staff are great and very helpful. Loved it!
It's much more than we expected. Will definitely recommend it. Located close to several places to visit.
My partner and I stayed at Highlander for our anniversary and couldn't have asked for a more perfect location! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and our unit was picture-perfect (Farm Cottage). The units are all very well spaced apart, so that you don't see or hear anyone and you have total seclusion in a beautiful setting in nature. We picnicked at the picturesque dam and had a lovely braai on the built-in braai at the unit, which was well stocked with good firewood. The cottage was absolutely beautiful and extremely well-appointed. Beds are super comfy too! 10/10 would recommend Highlander to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway not too far out of town. It is also ideally situated near loads of great attractions like hiking and gin tasting!
This is a gem on the outskirts of Harties. Very friendly staff, clean and spacious accommodation and beautiful scenery. Highly recommended.
We have found an absolute gem very close to the city! The KZN Midlands or Dullstroom in Gauteng. Comes highly recommended if you need a break from the busy city life.
The farm is beautiful, the trout dams are plenty. We had a lot of bites, however we are a bit rusted - it's been a while since we did any trout fishing. We will be back in winter. We stayed in the Trout Lodge, absolutely lovely and perfect. A combination of bush, mountains and trout dams. Love the poplar trees. Love the place.
Very nice gem in Skeerpoort.
The cottage is comfortably furnished and the surroundings are beautiful.
Would have liked to watch the rugby, but the available channels on DSTV did not include Supersport 1. Other than that it was very nice and we will visit Highland Trout Lodge again.
Some of the kitchen appliances need servicing - such as gas regulator on stove and oven, the dustbin drawer was broken and the kitchen tap was loose. Also there was no plug in the basin in the braai area. But otherwise it was the most wonderful stay in a beautiful setting. It was perfect for us, we would have loved to stay longer.
Environment was beautiful, had a good time.
A surprising oasis.
Will go again.
If you want private accommodation and can catch a fish too I would highly recommend it.
Trout House is lovely and well appointed. The rooms are spacious, each with a beautiful full bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped. The staff are friendly and very helpful.
Lovely relaxing accommodation everything one needs to forget about stress.
A place to recover from the everyday rat race. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. The sitting room suite was comfortable. The stoep area and additional bathroom were a plus. Will be back again.
Loved our stay. Clean facilities, nice outdoor boma, with beautiful dams for fly fishing. Cottages interior could do with a little updating, but we had everything we needed.
Baie rustig om weg te kom van die besige lewe. Sal graag volgende keer probeer visvang.
Lovely fireplaces in both bedroom and living room. Privately and comfortably furnished.
The unit was a thatched roof and there were many spiders on the rafters of the roof. The blinds were broken, so some of them could not open and close. The outside light at the braai area is very poor, could not see with the light. The ponds are beautiful but very limited due to reeds growing on the sides.
Perfect for a weekend.
Nice getaway for a weekend for a small family or friends. Very neat. Nice boma and braai area. Nice fireplace in the master bedroom. The kitchen is also very cute with a gas stove. I was only there one night because I was attending a wedding, but I would actually like to go again. It's very nice and quiet and can be a good break.
Maybe just arrange another fan for the other room. We enjoyed it and regretted staying only one night. We will definitely visit again and stay longer.
Our stay at Highlander Trout Lodge was the highlight of a weekend of highlights. I spoke with Sandra beforehand to find out which of the four units would be the most suitable for us, and her recommendation was perfect! Hartbeeshuis offers luxury accommodation but very good value for money. The finishes and amenities inside are top notch, and the kitchen is very well equipped. There was also more than enough wood for the braai outside and the wood stove inside. It is hidden among the trees, but just a stone's throw from the pool. It was lovely to wake up on Sunday morning to birds singing in the trees, and we enjoyed most meals outside on the cozy porch. The farm itself is a loop court. There are beautiful paths to explore and the ponds and lots of running water create a fantastic atmosphere. The monkeys play around in the trees and we even saw a zebra. I had a special request for the accommodation's preparation, and Sandra went out of her way to accommodate it. The two members of staff who welcomed us on Saturday afternoon also made a very good impression. All we regret is that we couldn't stay longer. We will discuss here again in a moment.
If you want to be away from everyone and just breathe, this is the place to be!
The house had all amenities possible. Privacy was excellent!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Hartebees House. Clean, spacious and private surrounded by the bush. Will certainly be returning many more times in the future. Thank you. I have already referred this sanctuary to colleagues.
A beautiful working farm with five-star facilities, well-trained staff, and beautiful surroundings. Well-furnished and equipped and thinking of everything - even a picnic basket and blanket. I will visit again.
We didn't want to go home! The most beautiful place we have ever stayed. Sandra, you are truly privileged to wake up there every day.
The house is very comfortable and the picture is beautiful, the staff were very friendly and thorough.
Very relaxing and lots of open spaces.
Close enough to JHB for a quick getaway but you'll still feel like you got away!
Well received by worker. She went out of her way to show everything nicely and make us feel welcome. The Covid protocol was applied to the letter. Very neat and clean inside, fully equipped. Nice extras like coffee and tea, hot towel arrangements, heater available. Grill had a hole in it, don't know if the owner is aware of it. Other than that, everything was 100% and we would love to come again in the summer.
Highlander Trout Lodge is a commercial trout farm, with excellent facilities, and a very good getaway that has a little bit of everything. Woodland, trout ponds and then there is much more that you can do on the farm. The unit is very well laid out and has all the amenities you need. Would highly recommend it.
I'm looking forward to going back, even though I'm no fisherman. Just the peacefulness of being out in the bush without actually being in a forest is great. Nice little walks around the place with a hidden pool to cure the heat. Really enjoyed my time there.
See stars.
The many ponds with the cleanest water make it breathtakingly beautiful.
Love the layout of the house, the boma surrounded by trees. Spiders a bit too many, but part of the forest environment. Trout dam area also nice and clean cut. Nice quiet. Thank you for the kind care and service.
Very quiet and private with friendly staff.
We needed a break. It was perfect place to find rest for our souls. Als was perfect. Will definitely book there again. So incredibly beautiful.
Had a nice stay. There were, however, hornets nests on the porch which made it difficult to spend time there. It can easily be sorted out. Fishing was not easy with trout fly fishing but there's a lot of fish to see. Very nice fish ponds. Otherwise it was a nice visit.
A lovely getaway place away from the city. And it's not too far.
It's a nice, spacious home. We were only two, but 4 people would have a nice stay there. The kitchen is equipped with everything imaginable, even a basket and picnic blankets! The rooms have heaters and the towels are warmed. The environment is enchanting, beautiful trees and lots of birds, green around the trout dams.
We had a great time. Beautiful surroundings.
Highlander Trout Lodge is a beautiful, peaceful getaway, the unit we stayed in, Highlander, is very spacious and stylish, the contents and fittings of the unit are more than adequate and of high quality. Staff are friendly and helpful. There are enough trout but we had a little trouble catching them. I will definitely visit the resort again.
A peaceful night away with great fishing facilities. Clean and comfortable. A million miles from home and yet right on the doorstep.
Very pleasant hostess. The house we stayed in was beautifully furnished. Beautiful surroundings. Had a great time relaxing!
Good location for a quick weekend getaway. Unit was clean and neat. Friendly reception.
The accommodation was comfortable and clean, but as it is marketed as a trout farm, I think prospective guests should be informed in good time, already in the advertisement, that the dams are only stocked with fish from April to October and that summer months are not suitable for trout-fishing.
Definitely seeing you again!
You get some wood to light the fire and braai. You can take the picnic basket and walk down to the river.
No contact from owners on arrival to welcome us.
Well received, nice house, cleaning service very poor. Water was dirty and earthy, could not bathe. Was also bad with our baby when it comes to washing baths and bottles. No trout caught just carp and one yellowfish. Ponds overgrown two ponds have no activity of fish. What a great place to stay, thank you Lidia and team for great customer service
Particularly beautiful surroundings. We were able to take so many pictures that we can use for painting - it really is a picturesque setting. The accommodation is spacious, comfortable, with an old-fashioned charm, but at the same time very comfortable with everything that makes your stay enjoyable. The dogs came to visit, but were not troublesome at all. I missed them after we left. We would love to go again and bring friends - there is so much space. We are not anglers, but really enjoyed the scenery.
Highlander Trout Lodge is the perfect spot to get away from it all. Very peaceful, lovely. Would love to return and highly recommend. 100% privacy - 10 out of 10.
From the moment we arrived, we were kindly received and helped with the unpacking. The maids know their job, as well as the sleeping space you will be using to make it easy for you to fit in and relax from the start. The accommodation unit is well furnished and has excellent equipment. You can pack for the day and go on excursions and when you come back everything is clean and in its place. Everything just works. Our little spot in the woods is lovely and no other holidaymakers in immediate sight, making it very relaxing. I can recommend Highlander Trout Lodge to anyone for a great centrally located getaway.
See stars.
We enjoyed the outdoors, the relaxing atmosphere, the distance from home, the peace and quiet. A very large home and a restful stay in the Kingfisher unit. Perhaps a bigger fridge is necessary if catering for 6. I thoroughly enjoyed myself! And when the water runs into the bath, it is in the shape of a heart.
We had a great time staying in the farmhouse. The cottage is really comfortable. Have fun! I do think that the farmhouse is starting to need some renovation work here and there. Can recommend Highlander Trout Lodge.
Great service. Beautiful location. Unit is very tidy and has everything you need and more. Worth it for sure.
We will definitely go again and recommend to rest there. Everything is neat, clean and the service is good. Thank you guys.
Very friendly and helpful, it's a beautiful place and it's so nice to be part of nature, but still have your luxury.
Wonderful nature and nice fireplace.
Unfortunately Highlander Lodge is not a destination for fly fishing (the photos on the website are obviously very outdated). We were dismayed to find on arrival that all the dams were overgrown. We were informed that this was for the bird life? Why advertise fly fishing then? We only found one small spot at the dam by the Farmhouse (Which we moved to after booking Trout House). The cottages are neat and tidy, but in need of upgrading. What a let down after looking forward to this holiday and as a treat for our son who had received his first fly rod for Christmas. The owner offered a refund after we complained (Please note we did advise on the booking form that there were 3 guests fishing) but we made the best of it as we only had this opportunity for a breakaway. The surroundings were however beautiful and peaceful.
Very nice units with everything you need to enjoy your stay. The peaceful atmosphere of the farm and forest makes you feel relaxed. Well located. You don't have to drive far to visit a whole host of interesting eateries and attractions during the day and evening.
One can see that the ponds and other areas were a bit neglected at one point, but now there are people who love the place and like guests to come and enjoy the time. We were not very successful with the fishing, but at least we managed to get two small trout, a yellowfish and a few carp, but we were there to break away in peace and we could do that there. Will definitely want to go back in the winter to test that fireplace in the room. It would have been nice if they offered trout for sale to guests, because such a fresh trout over the coals would have gone down well.
We stayed in Kingfisher. We are a family with grown children and wanted a special evening. It was hyper-tidy and delightfully spacious, with good quality interior decoration. The surroundings are beautiful and very well maintained, with nice places to walk. We didn't have a barbecue that night, but I saw that wood had been put down. Definitely recommend.
See the stars.
Neat and comfortable house. Very tranquil and it feels like you are isolated and alone. Beautiful scenery and tranquil environment. A lot of birds around the dams. Enjoyed fishing even though we weren't there during the best time, no trout but lake and canary kurper. Catch and release is our priority so it suited us. It is everything that you need to rest and break away from the rush and it is so close to the city. It was very good!
Beautiful little gem just a stone's throw from Gauteng. Lovely, peaceful getaway for busy Gautengers.
Quiet, friendly, clean, tidy with a beautiful view.
There are amazing birds. Very tranquil and beautiful location. Will come here again and the people are very friendly.
The staff is friendly and well-trained. Beautiful place! I'm already planning my next visit. Lots of pictures still to be taken.
A quiet, tidy and safe environment where you can relax. The house is well appointed and very private. However, renovation is needed. Would definitely recommend if you just want to get away for a few days. Booked there specifically to go fly fishing. However, it was a huge disappointment. The reeds make the ponds inaccessible. Was only able to fish one pond but also limited - did not produce any trout. Couldn't fish in the river either for the same reason.
Highlander Trout Lodge offers excellent accommodation options and beautiful scenery. The accommodation options are all privately located and very well appointed. Our accommodation arrangements were handled professionally and this contributed to a very enjoyable weekend.
Was an above average lovely weekend. Extremely neat farm and the ponds are crystal clear. Our first trout catch - reeled in two big ones. We are hooked!
Friendly staff, had a nice walk and experienced the farm. Needed rest and got it. Will try my hand at fishing next time.
Reception was very professional. Staff very helpful and well trained. The accommodation is very neat and clean. They have thought of all the little things: all the braai areas have already been neatly laid with wood. The abundance of water gives a peaceful atmosphere, the farm is beautifully situated and neatly maintained. There are many romantic places to have a picnic. We were able to sleep a lot. Quiet and peaceful on the farm.
We loved this house next to the trout hatchery and dam. The perfect place for a quick getaway to complete privacy and beautifull surroundings. We will surely return for a longer stay during the winter. Beautiful gardens and helpfull staff. The dogs were an absolute treat. Home away from home.
We will definitely come here again for a break.
Thank you very, very much. Very good service.
The farmhouse we stayed in is tasteful and very pleasant with a nice braai area. Not too many people, so you have your privacy, it's nice and quiet with farm animals in the background. Nice fishing area. Will definitely return.
A wonderful experience. My mother and I celebrated her 93rd birthday in the 'Farmhouse' and when we came back from lunch, there were 2 cupcakes with cherries on them and a personal birthday card for her! Excellent hospitality.
