65 guests' feedbackWe had a great time with the hosts on their vegetable farm. They made us feel right at home from the word go. Our cottage had a great view of the majestic Drakensberg. The swimming pool, which is less than 20m from the cottage, had the same view.

The location is perfect - nice and central to all amenities, and the views are beautiful. The hosts are lovely, and it's a great spot to unwind for the weekend.
We were received by the owners and they were so helpful and accommodating. The family chalet we stayed in was very well equipped and the fireplace so nice in the cold evenings. The place is literally 5 minutes from all the best shopping and adventure activities. Beautiful view of Champagne Castle from your own private veranda. We will definitely come and stay here again and again!
We will definitely return to Hill Billy Cottages. The hosts Hilda and Bill are so friendly and helpful. Their farm is beautiful and in a prime location next to those epic Drakensberg mountains. Hikes and other activities are really easily accessible from there. The cottage was cozy and had everything we needed.
We had a great stay at Hill Billy's. The hosts were very friendly. The accommodation was spacious and had everything we needed. The gas stove was also a big help when there were power cuts. The grounds are beautiful and we were able to explore them freely, which was great for bird watching. The location is ideal for all the activities and shopping opportunities the valley has to offer. The view from the cottage was just the best (Cathkin Peak and Monks Cowl). The only gripes are that the bathrooms (especially the showers) could be just a little bit cleaner. We suspect that there is also some animal that lives in the ceiling, which could be quite disturbing during the night.

We ventured into the Drakensberg with 3 grandmothers and a grandfather to listen to our school choir sing at the Drakies. We used 2 units and both were well equipped and comfortable. On top of the beautiful scenery, the boys' choir was amazing and really worth a visit.

A rustic farm stay, great for a family with kids. The fireplace is fantastic for those cold winter evenings in the Drakensberg. Fantastic location to enjoy the area. The owners were really accommodating and friendly. Will definitely be back if we travel to the area again.
The hostess Hilda welcomed us very kindly and her husband was just as friendly. We felt very much at home. The place is very well furnished with everything you need and felt like a second home. We had a very nice view of Champagne Castle and the nearby valley, it's a nice area. We really enjoyed the weekend and also enjoyed all the attractions in the area, especially the Lifestyle Center with various delicious, tempting foods. Our weekend was so nice, I will go back there again, next time just longer. I can really recommend it 5/5.

Our stay at Hill Billy Cottages was lovely. The owners made us feel very much at home and provided us with delicious wood for the wood stove (what an absolute winner!) and for the braai. The unit is very well furnished. The fresh produce market operated on the farm also means that one does not even have to drive for milk, bread and other essentials. Our 5 days in the mountains coincided with the riots in KZN and the owners kept us informed about the events, which roads were safe, if fuel was a crisis, and also asked if they could assist us in any other way.
The Drakensberg is my favorite destination and everything went smoothly. Thank you Leckeslaap.

We had a blessed Christmas at Hill Billy. Hilda our host was polite, approachable and very friendly. Trilled at the hiking terrains despite the rains. The property itself had a walking trail around it. Great location, enjoyed the privacy, excellent views from the cottage. Got to spot variety of birds anytime of the day, a bat and even a big rabbit while having coffee on the patio.
It is close to all activities in the area. Excellent with all self catering facilities and they have a small shop on site where you can buy eggs, vegetables, milk and meat.
Friendly reception and beautiful location, but the cottage was not clean inside.

Warm and cosy with all we needed for a stress-free break. Fireplace in July greatly appreciated! We'll be back to try the new place. Thanks, Hilda, for your friendly caring, but we never got to meet the friendly bloke on the tractor who gave us a wave in the mornings! Perhaps next time?
Depending on your cottage you have different views, not all units see the mountains. Nicely equipped, comfortable accommodation on a working farm. Full DStv a bonus as here is little to no night-life.
The chalet has everything you need. However, there was no wood available for the stove and the double bed was impossible to sleep on. Maintenance on site is a bit overdue.
On the surface it didn't look too bad, but not at all like the picture. Place was full of cobwebs and spiders. We spouted a whole can of Doom. The place does not have cleaning staff. We had to make our own bed, clean and wash dishes. The braai was clean when we got there but it was not cleaned at all the next day. Not worth R1000 a night. We had to slide the gate open and then struggle to close it. It looks like there is an electric fence around the place but there was no power on the fence.

What a lovely little house situated in the heart of the Drakensberg, this little place is central to everywhere you want to go. So peaceful with no hassle.

We went down to Champagne Valley for a wedding and stayed at Hill Billy's just for one night. The stay was lovely. I queried beforehand if we might check in earlier than the check in time and the owner was very helpful and replied quickly asking that we just call when we arrive. They were very friendly and welcomed us to the area with open arms. Disappointed that we could only stay for one night, would definitely return.
Picturesque location, neat and safe cottage however, we found it unacceptable when the owner asked us to leave at 9:30 the afternoon prior our departure because there were other guests arriving on the day. That did not sit well with any of us as we felt that our being there was now an inconvenience and we should make way for new guests, new money.

A fenced free standing cottage with covered parking and automated gate was great to have, made us feel safe so as to enjoy the tranquillity of this farming environment. A well maintained and well furbished interior with all of its provisions made for a good and comfortable living. The literature and pamphlets provided on the dining table makes for an informant Champagne Valley. Unfortunately we could not visit all that was on offer due to timing as certain places closed earlier and some closed all together as it was the weekend. A meet, greet and little chat with Hilda brought out the friendliness of a good host. Great, enjoyed our short stay as it was a stopover on our road trip to Mpumalanga and elsewhere. Will recommend this cottage. Just a thought: Maybe Hill Billy could look at lighting up the signage area at the roadside entrance way and a little sign on the left a few meters before the entrance, taking the terrain and situation into account. Thanks!

Hilda is very friendly and hospitable. We had a wonderful stay and rested well. Beds and couches a bit hard. Place was neat and clean.
Outside sign near road could be better as almost missed - tree growing in front of it. It is a bit dated and rustic but for the price you pay it is very good value for money. Fantastic kitchen with big fridge all the equipment you need. Beautiful fire place for winter. For the price I would certainly use it again. Suggestion when the wind is blowing the tree branches scrape across the tin roof. Suggest that should be cut back. Close to major hotels and to Winteron.

Clean self-catering unit, but located on a farm/plot where activities are visible. Couldn't take proper shower because water pressure ran out. On TV only free to air channels are available and decoder has frozen. Electrical cabling does not meet statutory requirements i.a. 220 volt cables that are attached with "chocolate blocks". Safety door cannot close properly.

The reception at Hillbilly was friendly, we were welcomed with comfortable accommodation, a big smile and a warm fire. The place is in the heart of the valley, close to all the facilities. This is the ideal place for a nice weekend away! Oh, and tribute sells delicious fresh vegetables on the farm!

This is a very cosy cottage with all the amenities including a braai and full security fence with lockable gate. There is undercover parking for the car. Lovely garden with trees. The hosts, William and Hilda, were very attentive. They gave us a gas cooker and numerous portable lamps to cope with the load shedding. Highly recommended!
The accommodation is warm and comfortable with everything you need and the hosts are most accommodating and very friendly.
Hilda is a very pleasant hostess and the cottage is an oasis. If you sit on the stoep you have the most beautiful view of the mountain, the bird life is indescribable: hawks, pigeons, ospreys, swallows and the whoop-whoop pass by on the stoep in front of you. It was amazing, will definitely be back and would recommend to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There are the most delicious restaurants to eat at on both sides of the cottage.
Cottages had so much character with everything we needed and close to many amenities. Hilda and William lovely helpful people. A definite recommendation.
A little problem with leaking due to heavy rains, but it can easily be resolved. But we didn't get the cottage advertised - don't know where that was/is?

Excellent place to stay. We attended a wedding & could only stay for 1 night. We both loved the place, so scenic & green & cottage is perfect for two. Didn't want to get up the next morning as the bed was so soft & comfy. Clean, very friendly service from Hilda. Very impressed and will definitely go back!

Warm and cozy in the middle of winter. The hosts was outstanding opening their house for me when I wanted to watch the British Formula 1 GP as I forgot my simcard at home. Their friendliness and concern made me well part of the family. Highly recommended
