48 guests' feedbackOur stay was pleasant. Rustic and back to basics. It reminded me that we can do so much with far less.
Yes, the facilities were adequate, the location picturesque, and the staff very friendly and helpful.
Fantasies place, the owners were very hospitable, Will want to visit there again.
Very pleasant and we appreciate the trust of the owners, will want to come again.
Very welcoming and friendly hosts. The stay was amazing.
Was a great experience with animals roaring around, mountains surrounding a beautiful place. Love the setup, bar and restaurant close, very friendly owners and visitors. Thank you for an amazing weekend of relaxing.
Hillbilly Farm was wonderful. It was an experience. Every family should go! To be around very friendly dogs, beautiful cows, chickens, ducks and geese gives you that real farm experience. The freedom for the kids to play in the mud, sit in the hot tub etc, is priceless. I would recommend a raincoat, wellington boots and warm clothes in the winter.
Value for money and everything you need is available. Nice place to visit for children and simply for the whole family.
Accommodation was what I anticipated given the name. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Having the use of the hot tub was very lekker. A few larger paving stones or a concrete path to The Bunker would be helpful on wet days.
The place was perfect for what we wanted. The animals everywhere, but not in the road, were very fun and exciting for the girls 8 and 10 and us. We were hoping to see a new calf's birth. Everything we needed was there and the ruggedness was fun!! The view from the top of the mountain behind the house with sunset is beautiful and you only have to walk a little way up for very nice views of the fruit orchards with beautiful blossoms. The hot farm pool was the highlight. By the second night it was perfect. It takes a long time and a lot of wood to heat up, but it's worth it. Take your own wood. Overall a great family weekend with awesome memories x.
We will definitely book for a getaway soon.
The owners are real people-people. They are very welcoming. Accommodation is neat and well laid out. Fantastic service. A nice place!
It was very nice. We really enjoyed swimming with the cows.
If you like to break away from the busy city noise and want to live down to earth, come here. That's great, thank you.
I would not recommend it to anyone. Workers' sleeping quarters are next to guests' sleeping quarters. Bathroom is a zinc building which is not private, everyone uses it including the workers. You sleep in a Wendy house that isn't even properly sealed. No carpet in the room. There is rubbish everywhere on the site. Their friends rate them, that's why it's a 5 star. The place is a zero star. Stay away from here! It is not safe and the whole day there is a visit with their friends and it is very noisy. Owners are also rude. Dogs run around among you and are as dirty as the place itself.
Hillbilly Farm is a working farm stay, which offers no security for any tourist. 1. The changing rooms: farm workers share the bathroom and an open shower that ladies also use with no privacy and gas geysers hang and do not meet safety standards. 2. Farm workers look directly onto the open shower and sink without hot water. 3. All drains are open flowing which is unhygienic. 4. Toilets are inconveniently far, also without privacy for overnight visitors. 5. The 1 shabby dining table is directly next to the farm's work table, full of dust, unhygienic. 6. The braai facilities were dirty, rusty, unkempt and also unhygienic. 7. The bedroom was unsafe and the bed uncomfortable, too short with a weathered mattress and broken asbestos wall. 8. There is no hot water for washing dishes. 9. The chicken coops are right by the barbecue area and they walk between us. Our conclusion is that the web page immediately 1. Take down this place, because it is a blot on South African tourism. 2. We request that you refund our money immediately.
Awesome stay at a great location and fantastic customer service!
Very nice place to visit and friendly hosts. Would go back anytime.
This is a working farm, with ducks, geese, cows, chickens etc., but also coming with it is great food, a bar, firepit, games, activities - the works. The place is well kept for a farm, the hosts are super friendly and the atmosphere rejuvenating. We had an absolute blast - thanks Hillbilly team!
Really enjoyed it, reception was poor and all facilities a bit primitive but otherwise it was very nice. The owner was very friendly and helpful and even the other guests were very friendly.
From the moment we walked in we felt relaxed. The farm dogs were excited to greet us but are well behaved and don't jump up. The farmstall is full of trinkets, farm produce and keepsakes to ensure you remember your stay. It's a farmstall where the locals hang out, so don't expect a bistro with cappuccino and biscotti, but coffee with condensed milk and great farm produce for lunch. The farm animals may have names yet wild at heart. Little Hamlet, the resident pigeon, makes himself very comfortable on your head and I felt blessed being christened with good luck. The cows and chickens have no fear but be weary of them. Our stay in The Roost was awesome, comfy and cosy sleep. Outhouse ablutions take some getting use to for someone from the city, but it's part of rustic Hillbilly feel of the farm and after your second trip you're quite used to it. Night-time fires in the fire pit double up as braai facilities and when the shop is closed you can sit in the bar with your hosts and enjoy a shot or two of their much talked about Chilli Vodka or try their home grown chilies. It may not be an adventure park, but it's not short on things to do but relaxing is definitely part of your stay. Thanks Tanith and Steven, we'll see you again soon!!
The downside is the busy road next to the accommodation, the noise of cars was disturbing. Lots of flies were also troublesome.
Now it was something else, our little girl loves animals so she enjoyed her holes. The food was delicious and very nice play area for small children. The cottage is rustic but it comes with everything you need, if you are a down to earth person you will really enjoy it. We will definitely come back.
Interesting stay and something different. No problems with staying in a Wendy House as it adds to the whole feel of hillbilly living I guess, but what put us off was the fact the place could have been cleaner and those beds killed us.
If there was a pool or something to do on the farm for teenagers, then we would have enjoyed it that much more. But on the whole, it really was a great place to totally relax when we were there. Accommodation was very rustic but we knew that before going there, but next time we will remember to pack in bug repellant for sure. We used Hillbilly Farm as literally a place to sleep while we were out and about in Ceres.
Very rustic and comfortable place. Friendly owners and will stay there again.
Tanith and Steven were wonderful hosts and we really enjoyed our stay.
Fresh from the farm! Staying in the cowshed was a wonderful experience. Kitchen, shower and toilet just above the cottage were convenient, clean, adequate and a big plus. The Nguni herd that sleeps snugly against the cottage at night and grazes in the area during the day was a great pleasure. Chickens, ducks and geese roam free during the day and do what feathers do. The dogs on the site are all friendly and welcome you like family. Information and rules are presented humorously. Cute paddock with interesting things. Been fun!
Superb place to stay at. Very basic, but absolutely amazing experience with the hosts, Steven and Tanith. They have the cutest little bar and also run a shop on their working farm. 10 mins drive from Ceres. It is by far the best value for money in the area! We had an awesome stay!
Accommodation was as suggested and very friendly host. Wolseley road close to the Cowshed was a bit of a disturbance. Generally very nice for small children.
It's a very nice farm atmosphere. Would recommend it.
It is a very different experience. Disagree that the price per night justifies it. Lots to do for kids and a farm experience that I really like. Small changes can add so much value to something impressive.
Wonderful with all the animals. Almost stole one of the dogs!
My family were impressed and the location is great and not far from town and the mountain is great.
Within its price range, Hillbilly Farm is certainly the best accommodation you will find. Although not luxurious, we stayed in a clean room with all the necessary amenities. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming. We walked up the mountain (on the Hillbilly premises) to watch the sunset and braaied afterwards, both of which we enjoyed very much. We even fed the goats! I would certainly recommend Hillbilly Farm for budget accommodation.
Very comfortable atmosphere, basic and quirky facilities and stunning surroundings! The chilli vodka shot was exceptional!
Hillbilly is a bit different from most holiday farms, in that it is really cosy, and without many rules and expectations. We were there on a cold weekend, rain and all, and slept nice and warm in the wooden house that they built in their own style and rules. In the morning you look out over the chickens, geese and cattle walking around on the grass, and in the evening you can sit and visit your own braai place - although I suggest visiting with the owners in the bar-lapa, where they are open, honest and sociable around the bar and bar. Hillbilly is raw, real farm, and a much better option for people who prefer nature, rocky mountain walks and farm vibes, with outdoor showers and toilets that bring you even closer to nature and self-sustainable lifestyle. During the day, you can go and discover Worcester, Tulbagh and all the other nice places that are in the county. Hillbilly has a farm stall that sells meat, and pies and all kinds of snacks, as well as other goodies, no reason to bring a bag full of groceries, in my opinion.
We only used the place to sleep for work, so we were out the entire day.
Very neat place for the outdoor person. Clean, neat, with challenges.
If city life gets too much, then Hillbilly Farm is just the place to visit! Animals, mountains and nature at its best. The kids enjoyed it a lot. There are many farm animals and you become one with nature again. We would recommend it anytime.
Nice place for kids and friends to go together. There is a lot to do on the farm and in the area. It was very convenient to buy food at the paddock. Rooms were neat and well equipped.
Hillbilly farm is a very unique accommodation destination, with geese, chickens, dogs, cattle and goats active all over the farm. If you love your luxuries then this might not be for you, but if you enjoy the farm and outdoor life you will really enjoy your stay here. Definitely worth a visit! PS: Ask for the Chilli Vodka.
I think I might not have expected much because the price was so reasonable, but together with a very comfortable stay, the owners also made us feel very at home. The location of the accommodation was also very easy to find and the road stall provided all we needed (and more). Thank you for everything Tanith and Steve.
This place is something else. Very convenient next to the road to Ceres. They really made a lot of effort to not make it a 5 star hotel. Even the toilets, showers, and kitchen is outside. There were animals to see and even a cock who woke us up at 05:00. For anyone who want something different I recommend this place.
Staying among the goats, ducks and chickens was an experience. Our room was beautiful and spacious. The outdoor shower and toilet had something nostalgic about it. I would definitely recommend Hillbilly Farm and will definitely stay there again!
Had a great time. Owners very friendly and helpful.
