The accommodation is set in a beautiful garden where guests can appreciate the beauty of the Free State countryside. Hillside Farm offers secure parking, as well as several outdoor activities for guests to enjoy. Explore the farm on foot, view farm activities, go cycling, play tennis or cricket, or take a dip in the swimming pool. The pool is enclosed by a stone wall, and is surrounded by aged trees and green lawns. Experience the playful frolicking lambs in spring, observe the shearing of woolly sheep or the weighing and marking of the Red Angus calves. Seated comfortably on your verandah or a picnic blanket on the lawn, witness a clear night sky and enjoy an evening of star gazing.

18 guests' feedbackA wonderful find 500m from the N1. Nestled behind a hill, there is no road noise. The accommodation has been carefully restored with a modern bathroom that blends in. Everything needed for a stopover between Johannesburg and the Great Karoo is at hand. It's definitely my first choice for all future trips.
In Hillside's Tree House, which we stayed in, there were three bedrooms with six beds and three bathrooms with a beautiful dining room and kitchen, and meals delivered to our table. The family's footprints have been on Hillside for over a century. We were not only amazed by the beautiful garden, but spent hours walking in all directions on the farm and taking pictures, also of the healthy sheep and stud cattle. We look forward to our next visit!

The luxury tree house was a pleasant surprise. The service was fantastic and the dinner top notch. Our breakfast was even packed for us because we were driving early. Will definitely stay there again.
Perfect overnight stop between Gauteng and the Cape. The cottage was tidy, well furnished and far enough from the N1 that it is quiet. Dinner with mutton curry (additional, and on request) was delicious, and delivered to the cottage on time. Nice garden and trees. Communication was great! Would definitely use again as an overnight stop!

The food was very well prepared and tasty.
This place is just off the N1, but once you drive into the property you immediately forget you are so close to the N1. This place has a beautiful garden and plenty of space for walks after a long day in the car or before beginning the last stretch to Johannesburg. Don't forget to ask for their dinner option. They have very nice food that gets delivered to your chalet. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is also a very nice swimming pool to relax around.
We received a very warm welcome by Kate, the host. We enjoyed the delicious evening meal she had prepared for us (lamb curry, Bobotie and chicken curry). The history of the farm was very interesting.
Nice and spacious, luxurious, convenient and comfortable. Nice swimming pool and braai facilities with even a beautiful tennis court and walking trail. Our unit was on the top floor which might be mentioned in the description for people who can't climb stairs, but very neat and stylishly redone with luxuries that you don't expect. Delicious breakfast and we had a nice barbecue by the pool. The road is just a bit difficult if you are towing an off road caravan or any large caravan. During our stay we ran short of plates and barbecue and Paulina was very helpful with everything that was needed. Very nice and peaceful.
