Absolute gem of a place - exactly what we were looking for. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life but I could still do some work while there. Our dogs also loved exploring the Karoo veld. The house is well equipped, especially for chilly winter nights.

Fenced-in for pets and located on a working farm. The block house next to the farmhouse invoked thoughts of Brit soldiers and Boer commandoes. Our two small doggies enjoyed the stay, especially the visit of a yellow mongoose.
If you are looking for remote and off the grid away from hussle and bustle with no Wifi, this is the place for you.

It has everything one needs. Super neat and an interesting story. We really liked the history of the place. The closed braai area was just a bit difficult to braai in (it smokes a lot). Everything else was perfect!

It is always nice to have to open a gate to access ones accommodation as you know that you are on the farm. Hillston is no exception. A warm welcome and at the cottage the underfloor heating and the electric underblankets were already turned on. We asked to have both supper and breakfast and enjoyed both very much. We look forward to returning.
The most beautiful sunrises and sunsets. It was a wonderful experience. Nice walk around the farm. The house is well furnished. The 'no electricity' was no problem, there were more than enough LED lights available for our 2 nights. The house is equipped with gas fridge/freezer, gas stove, gas geyser etc. On the way home, don't be in a hurry - the road is suitable for a vehicle with higher clearance.

Our Hillston Farm stay was excellent. Very clean old farm house, fully equipped, no electricity but well equipped with candles and LED lights. Very remote and luckily we had all provisions needed for our two day stay. Very quiet with wonderful starlit evenings. Best to go with a few people. The house could easy accommodate 4 couples.
Hosts were super helpful and friendly. The setting is very remote, 6 km from the main homestead, and meals were brought to us, which was a treat, as we were on bicycles. The meals were fantastic, and the accommodation and facilities were well presented and maintained. All in all, we would sincerely recommend this for a peaceful getaway.

It's a shame we didn't get a chance to taste the much talked about meals, maybe next time we'll be lucky to get the chef there. Note that there is no signal at the cottage and WiFi is available at the main homestead. Had a wonderful sleep, nice fresh and clean bedding. Very friendly reception. Clean and tidy.
It was great to have the break on the Karoo farm. The stars are absolutely stunning in the evening and the fresh air is fantastic. Riana made an effort to take us on a route that made the farm experience interesting. I had hoped that my children could have a little more direct contact with farm animals for a nice farm experience, but that is not what the accommodation offers. The house was clean and comfortable. I do think the price is a bit high compared to other accommodations. But in short, it was a very nice experience.

House is cracked everywhere and very basic for what you pay. They were also busy with repairs and started hacking at the wall of our bedroom at 8 o'clock in the morning.

Hillston Farm is a retreat for a tired soul after a long journey, just to stand still in God's nature and take in His handiwork is food for body and soul.
It's off the main road. You turn to drive there. Not worth it. Not meeting our expectations.

The cottage can accommodate up to 6 guests and contains 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and an open-plan kitchen, dining room and family lounge with underfloor heating.
