Nice and quiet place in the middle of nowhere. Wonderful.
Hans Marensky estate is currently under construction. The units rely on their own sources for electricity, so a generator runs 24/7. As a result, it may not be peaceful for a braai or a good night's sleep. However, we were not greatly bothered as we mainly needed a bed and were out most of the time. It can be misleading though. Once the electricity is sorted and the hotel is fully operational again, it will be the best place to stay. But for now, it can be a huge disappointment. I was aware beforehand that the surroundings are not in working order and I understand the situation.
It's a pity Hans Merensky if estate looks so bad.
Would definitely recommend Hippo's Haven and would definitely like to visit again in the future.
Kids loved the fishing, just mind the crocs.
Facilities at hotel badly run down. Don't be fooled.
Wonderful comfort and privacy by the water. Nice day trip done in Kruger Wildlife Park. House is 100% equipped with much more than one needs. Nice strong WiFi. Private and secure. Highly recommended!
Another plus is the proximity to the Kruger National Park.
You have the most amazing house in the bush. Had such a lovely stay. Saw hippos, monitor lizards, muscaljaat cat and so many fireflies at night. Such an amazing experience. Already contemplating when we can go again, was way too short. Thanks!
Finally, the kitchen and braai work with gas but no lighter or matches were available.
The accommodation is comfortable and spacious. It lacks maintenance, looks like owners were there a long time ago, because it's a beautiful place that is not maintained. The trash in the scullery was teeming with giant cockroaches. Air conditioner in master bedroom makes a lot of noise and the one in room near kitchen leaked the floor soaking wet. Some bedside lamps did not have bulbs in them.
The place is a breath of fresh air, if you want that away from people feeling and being out of reach then Hippo Haven is your place, the house is something else. To Olivia, Ray and mom, thank you so much for the warm welcome, I would definitely return to Hippo Haven!
The place is very nice! Just on our first day, the main bedroom - the bed was all wet. I think its because of the rain. TV needs to be changed, it's old school. Besides these two, all is fine. Oh! I didn't see any hippos.
Hippo's Haven was an amazing place at the doorstep of the Kruger which was an amazing plus. A 5 star place definitely.
We were surprised by daily visits from giraffes, impalas, colourful fishers, baboons, partridges, guineafowls, apes, etc. Spacious accommodation, well equipped and clean. Great place to relax in the bush.
The home is absolutely fantastic and properly equipped. The environment is peaceful and relaxed. Any recommendation is that the owners put up warning signs in the house for crocodiles that may be in the pond at the house. We had a visitor who stayed in the pond. Only for animals and maybe small children.
We were very impressed with the lodge, it is beautiful. The estate, however, was not what we had hoped for. The restaurants were closed most of the time, service was average, there was no tennis courts or squash courts. So not ideal for teenage boys, but if you are looking for peace and relaxation, then it is ideal.
Very good accommodation and the house was very fully equipped. Would definitely recommend and book again when in the area.
