Just like the name Hoeka Toeka - expect old-world pampering: from beautiful old trees in the back garden to delicious dinner from their kitchen. And in the fridge we found fresh milk and drinking water, small treats that welcomed us. We can recommend them - value for money.
The stay was very good and exceeded my expectations. The manager was very helpful when I informed her that unfortunately I could not arrive on the date as booked. She understood and helped me. I would definitely recommend the place to people who just want to spend a night or 2.
Wow! It was great fun at Hoeka Toeka! Their communication was excellent. We were able to order dinner and takeaway breakfast ahead of time. Very friendly reception. The room had everything we needed, very nice and clean. The car was safely behind a locked gate. Their fat cake is delicious.

Unfriendly reception, noise from the baker's storage room which is on the other side of a door from room 8, bath not cleaned. The person who received us just asked who I was and which room, and didn't even bother to show us the room.
Place was not cleaned before I booked in. Owner did not make you feel at home, and her one lady, Donna, was not helpful and very unfriendly. At one point, I asked for something to eat. Will never go there again.

Suggestion: When guests arrive, give them the load shedding schedule and not even 15 min before it is load shedding. And then inform guests that if it is load shedding, there is no water at all, so one cannot shower/brush teeth. It will help if one knows in advance to arrange one's arrangements accordingly. Two-point power plugs will also be an advantage, especially at the bedside table where you usually want to charge your phone.

The people were very kind, but service was not great. The room we booked and paid for wasn't available (4 people), so we were put into 2 separate rooms, one of which wasn't cleaned after previous guests stayed there. The Wi-Fi didn't work either.
Reception was not sure of my stay and what was paid for. No friendly welcome. The lock used to lock the entrance gate fell apart. There was no chair at the desk provided in the room. No privacy in the room as the curtains at the kitchenette is very revealing.

My girlfriend and I were in Mokopane for a golf weekend. We were looking for a place that was neat and spacious and offered value for money. During my reservation, I read the reviews on Hoeka Toeka, and inquired about the bed in Room 5 (which I initially booked) that previous guests had complained about. We were offered another room (no 6), without mentioning that it would cost us R50 per night extra. I only realized this when I got the new quote and wanted to pay. The photo on the website is a total misrepresentation of the room. In the photo, the room looks spacious, while it was very cramped due to a bunk bed pushed in next to the double bed. So much so that there was no space at all for a bedside table between the beds. The size of the room does not justify the extra bed at all. It was also dusty and not at all clean under the bed. There is only one power plug in the room, behind the bed, with an extension cord lying in a bundle next to the bed. The bedside lamp, kettle and microwave could not be plugged in directly at all. On the contrary, we had to put the kettle on the floor next to the bed to boil water. The fridge was also not switched on. The shower glass was dirty and full of lime deposits. The shower head is old and calcified and only sprayed one jet of water. After it was mentioned to the owner, nothing was done about it. We showered in cold water the first night and next morning as we were unaware that we had to run the water for 10 minutes, or even longer, before it would warm up. The second night we realized at 23:00 that someone was working on the geyser, right below our bedroom window. No apology was offered for the water problems. The lock for the gate on the street front did lock, but falls apart when you unlock it, which made us feel less safe. The accommodation was substandard and we would certainly not recommend it to anyone. If you want to run a guest house, you must at least listen to your guests' complaints.

There was no toilet paper on arrival. I went to ask the owner for it who went on about how terrible the staff are who did not service the room. I think it's bad style to discuss your staff with clients like that. I did not appreciate it at all.
The gate motor caused problems and our remote was faulty.
On arrival we were given keys and a gate remote which didn't work. Excuse was that the remote must be faulty. Another remote arrived: also no action. They told us it would be repaired. The gardener told me the gate had been faulty for a long time. When we arrived at 11:30 PM the gate could still be opened by hand and all the contact numbers given to us did not exist or no one answered. One small bath towel and one hand towel for two guests. Only rooibos tea bags available. On leaving another employee told me to reverse out quickly before the gate closes again. Not happy.

Misled for been self catering and we had a situation on our first night as we were not allowed to go to the kitchen. The place is also not easily identified as there is no proper or visible signage outside to show there is a guest house.
The smell of stale cigarette smoke residue in the room spoiled our one night stay over and even the optional room offered to us was not much better. Erratic water supply was another unpleasant experience. I would not recommend Hoeka-Toeka to anyone.
Not at all what we expected. Water was a problem, practically no water or hot water in the evening. No knives, forks, plates or spoons. No freezer.
Going to book again next year for hunting season. It was phenomenal! There were no shortages and the people are very friendly and hospitable and it was very enjoyable. People can really go there. And the cakes are delicious.

We were a bunch of friends just staying over for the night, on our way to our vacation. Was very neat, and would definitely recommend.
Very nice stay. Very friendly service. We experienced severe traffic congestion due to schools closed and rainy weather. This delayed our arrival time by hours and the staff immediately suggested alternative arrangements. Rooms are cleaned every day. A surprise was the bottles of water that were included in the price. I would recommend having a bedside lamp by the bed. Easier to turn off the light in the evening.
I didn't know that I must have checked-in before 19:00. I called and let them know and to my surprise they made arrangements. We arrived at around 21:00 and we were able to get to our clean and cosy room with no hassle. The morning we had assistance when we had to leave very early. I would recommend this place any day. Enjoyed our stay.

Maybe, this is the mistake of the travel agent, but I was not expected. I booked and paid for a double room, but received a single. After the initial shock of my arrival, I was assured that I am welcome and presented with a welcome gift. My fridge was later stocked with a bottle of still water, fruit juice and a jar of milk, which I appreciated. I did not appreciate the lack of ice cubes in the fridge or the noise the fridge made later on. I had to switch it off. The bed lamp was not working, but the bulb was later replaced. The security gate did not operate satisfactory, but that also was later rectified. The DSTV worked satisfactory. The breakfast was skimpy and the less said about that the better. I expected better from this guest house.
