What a lovely stop on our tour down to the Cape! We were kindly received, it's a gem of a place! It is a beautiful, clean, comfortable place to spend the night. The kids had a great time playing and we really had everything we needed. The shower is nice and big and the beds sleep comfortably. We will stop by again and highly recommend it!

Yes, it was quiet and peaceful. Please give a selection of teas - not just rooibos tea. Mosquito mats or insect repellent in the room please. - the mosquitoes were very troublesome.

Hopetown Guesthouse was like a refreshing oasis for us after a long, hot day on the road! We could relax by the braai fire in the green, lush courtyard. Als was comfortable, neat and clean. They already let us know about the arrival arrangements on the way. We can recommend the place to anyone.

I have stayed here before but this time I am very disappointed. The room we stayed in - no 7 - was dirty and full of dust. The towels were dirty and the shower faucet was broken. Not what you want after a 700km journey.

Hopetown Guesthouse was a very pleasant surprise! Everything was a surprise, from the lovely courtyard, the tastefully furnished rooms, the beautiful reception and dining room, and the beautiful interior decoration! The rooms are equipped with everything one could need. And the dinner was delicious, top notch! And last, but certainly not least, actually the most important - Jolene, the receptionist/manager. She was great, I knew hours in advance exactly where what was and how everything worked and where I had to go. She even called a few times while I was on the road to hear how I was progressing, if I was still safe and when it was getting dark, to warn me about kudus on the road. Jolene is a star and she went out of her way to make me feel welcome after a very long day on the road.

It would be good if they could provide wood and flash as standard if you want to barbecue and that they could consider adding a little less meat and instead a side dish to the barbecue package. The rooms were very nice and so was the breakfast.
This was the only overnight facility with a refrigerator and microwave that we visited during our trip. Air conditioning also brings relief. Neat and clean.

One should probably not compare, but it was a bit of a disappointment. Breakfast was great, but Sunday dinner was not worth the money.

We had a great stay at Hopetown Guest House.
The venue was advertised as Bed-and-Breakfast, just for us to be told that they do not make breakfast on a weekend. There is no alternative places to eat after 16:00 at all in Hopetown. So, we arrived at 16:00 and could not find any place open for us to have supper/lunch. All the places recommended to us from them either did not exist anymore or were closed. The next morning we were told that even if it says Bed-and Breakfast, they do not make breakfast on a weekend. Isn't it weekends that most people travel? We did call at 15:00 te be told that it was too late to ask for supper. There were literally a book full of rules for us as an over night guest to read! The air con was on a set room temperature and could not be set colder even though it was way into the 30degrees Celsius. The dustbin in the room was too small to even put a water bottle in.

Favorable reception and management concerned about our satisfaction. Had a restful night and was fresh for further travel.
Place is nice and clean, but the living room rug and dish cloth need attention. Other guests were noisy in the courtyard. How about a small real genuine milk as well as Jacobs or Nescafe coffee? It makes a big difference in my choice of a return visit to a guest house. Thanks for the bottles of water in the fridge!

The staff were friendly and also confirmed the reservation in advance. I received an inner room for the evening - the room had no windows. The bathroom had windows that could bring the only natural light into the room. The TV screen is also very small, making it difficult to watch from the bed.

The guest house is very neat and clean, the rooms were great, the area where the guest house is located is very peaceful and quiet (not near the main road and other noisy places). It's only the other guests who slept next to us and opposite us who bothered, they had children who ran up and down the veranda (in front of the rooms) and made noise, then they kept the room doors open and then slammed and until late noise and talking where we could hear them in our room.

Unlike the norm, the check-in time at the guest house is only 16:00 and not 14:00. When we arrived at 14:00 reception was closed. We booked a breakfast for the next morning with our booking and received confirmation that it was recorded as such. The information document in the room indicates that breakfast is served from 07:00 to 08:30. When we reported for breakfast the next morning at 07:45, the hostess informed us that her kitchen was already closed, while the tables of the other guests had not even been set yet.
Spacious and comfortable accommodation if you want to spend the night in Hopetown.
It was advertised on the internet that dinner is available at additional cost. When we arrived there, we were told that dinner is not available. It was a Sunday evening and there is no restaurants open on a Sunday evening in Hopetown. We asked for some ice and was directed to the garage a few blocks from there. Beds and bathroom was clean, tidy and comfortable.
We arrived and were informed that there was a power cut. It seems to happen regularly that the power supply to Douglas is interrupted. Owner gently dispenses, apologizes and promises to turn on the generator. Ask that we please not using air conditioning, which is understandable. Generator never turned on. No feedback why. Room smells of sweet perfume probably from the previous guest and smoke smell in the shower/toilet. The trash can in the room is overflowing. Quite dark and you couldn't see how clean the rest of the room was. I got up in the night to get something for my wife from the car and realized with a shock that the electric gates were open and that the fence was not working. If the power cuts happen from time to time where is the owner's plan B to make it safe and convenient for the guests. Very unsafe. Would not recommend.

It is very unfortunate that no meals were available over the New Year. It is precisely the time when you are tired of driving that you want these options available.
There was one problem. We had to wait for approximately 30 minutes before we could get into the accommodation. There had been a power outage which also affected cellphone connectivity. Could not contact anyone to inform them that we had arrived - no one at reception on site until eventually someone arrived to let us in. Otherwise there were no problems except that the floor was dusty and made mud wherever water fell on to it!

I can definitely recommend Hopetown Guesthouse if you are in the area and need to stay overnight. Very neat, well-equipped rooms overlooking a beautiful courtyard. Breakfast is served but unfortunately not dinner which is a disadvantage as there are no decent places to eat in Hopetown. My vehicle was securely locked for the night and washed the next morning before my departure by a willing helper.

We had to drive around for some time to find the place, partly due to detours. We recommend that travellers ask someone where Hopetown High School is. The guesthouse is right next to it. Otherwise we didn't have any problems with the guesthouse. The hostess was very friendly, but scarce.
The guesthouse was very nice and welcoming, people where polite, however the beds are not very comfortable to sleep on and one didn't have a good nights rest. It could have been just our room.

After a long journey, the overnight rest was very pleasant. The air cooler didn't make 100% cold, but at least it could break the worst of the heat. I was a bit uneasy that my vehicle was not behind locked gates (the environment was secure). Now that I know what to expect, I will stay there again. The welcome was very friendly and a very peaceful atmosphere.
A good place to spend the night in the Karoo, however the rooms are close together and quite noisy.
It is a bit confusing that there are a Hopetown Gastehuis and a Hopetown Guest House in Hopetown is. It would have been nice if the accommodation included breakfast.

I was driving a vehicle from Pretoria to Cape Town and had made a booking based upon the anticipated time of arrival. Of course I was later than anticipated and Corney waited patiently for my final arrival at 20:00 pm. I was exhausted and the room was exactly what I needed - a clean comfotable room with hot water, air conditioning (there are mosquitos in the area so the windows could not be left open) and a comfortable bed. After a meal in the town and a good night's sleep with absolutely no external noise, I hit the road at 06:00 am - refreshed and ready for the long haul to Cape Town.

Just nicely located halfway between Pretoria and George! It probably only rains 10 days of the year in Hopetown but it rained the evening of our stay. Then the roof leaked and water dripped from the ceiling onto the floor - Chinese torture. Mats and towels were then laid down to stop the irritation. However, it was clean and tidy and perfectly fine to sleep over during a long journey. We also enjoyed a good dinner at the only restaurant in town.

Welcoming setting with large cool trees out of the sun and a courtyard that gives you a further cool feeling. Just like on the ad pictures. The accommodation is neat, clean with air conditioning and all the other important necessities are in place. WiFi is also available on request.

They arranged dinner for us on prior request but it was simply in polystyrene containers and we had to sit it on the bed and eat it.
I was not impressed, the reception office for checking in was closed. This was at +/-16:00 and we had to try and get someone to assist us. We were shown the room and that was that, also the fridge in the room was dirty and full of ants, and one of the glasses was dirty and sticky and was never cleaned and also full of ants. We booked a B&B and on investigation of the in-room booklet found that to have breakfast was an additional charge, the next morning we left early and again we needed to ring the bell to the reception office for assistance and pay the outstanding balance due, no asking if we were satisfied. I will certainly not use them again, their service was bad.

In the summer, Hopetown is HOT, but the air conditioning in the unit works well. We were under the impression that we had booked the self catering unit but one of the other rooms had been allocated - this was not a problem though. The room is not very spacious, but well equipped.

This is our biggest unit and has a double bed and an en-suite bathroom with a bath only. There is a sleeper couch which can accommodate an additional 2 children only, an ideal room for a family spending the night. It has a small kitchen with a stove, fridge, microwave and cutlery. The room is equipped with air-conditioning, DStv with selected channels, towels, soap, tea- and coffee-making facilities.
