The lodge can accommodate up to 8 guests and comprises 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and an open-plan kitchen and living area. The main bedroom can be found upstairs and is equipped with a double bed and en-suite bathroom that has a bath, basin and toilet, with a viewing deck and a separate dressing room. The other 2 bedrooms are located downstairs, and one is furnished with 2 single beds with an en-suite bathroom that has a shower, while the third room is equipped with 4 single beds with a separate bathroom that has a shower and separate toilet.
The lodge also has 2 lapa areas, one of which serves as an open-plan lounge, dining room, a fully equipped kitchen that has a fridge and stove, microwave and pantry, with a TV that has full DStv viewing. The other lapa area has a pub and coffee bar with outdoor braai amenities and a boma which is adjacent.
Hornbill Private Lodge also has secure covered parking for 3 vehicles, and guests can enjoy both a heated and cold pool with kiddies play area 80 meters from the house. In the reserve, travellers staying at the lodge will have full access to Mabalingwe's facilities including undertaking their own game drives.

Hornbill house we will see you again soon for sure. It is cozy, spacious and perfect for all seasons. Our host was very helpful and patient with all my questions, and our 2 game drives were hosted by an experienced bushveld expert who taught me so many new things about the bushveld. We enjoyed the privacy of the house and it was lovely to watch the animals moving around the house.
This was our best holiday ever in Mabalingwe. Jaco and his team went out of their way to have everything ready and comfortable for our group. The little kids loved the pool! Every game drive was full of fun and we thoroughly enjoyed each one. Thank you very much Jaco, we hope to visit you again when we are on holiday in South Africa again.

Very pleasant stay, bed upstairs needs to possibly be replaced, squeaky and not too comfortable. Very sad that we couldn't get the accommodation as planned due to closure for 'game management', which we now assume is hunting as it's not the first time this has happened. Not the place's problem, but may affect bookings in the future as we come to see the game now for hunting.
My family and I went to Hornbill Private Lodge to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday. I cannot fault them on anything as everything was perfect. From Jaco who is extremely friendly, helpful and making sure everything was ready for us, to Gift and Nicolas taking us on our game drives and being so polite and professional. All going the extra mile to make sure our stay was amazing. I would like to thank Jaco and his team for making our weekend perfect and one to remember. We will most definitely return and also recommend to anyone looking for excellent accommodation in Mabalingwe.

The place is value for money. It is very private and clean. Everything you need for your stay is provided. It is even more amazing to see the baby cot and prem. It is suitable for all kinds of families. We will definitely go again. Jaco, you are the best.

Provision for lighting during load shedding, and load shedding roster daily was very helpful. Caring host made the stay more personal. Much appreciated. Will definitely go again and recommend Hornbill Lodge.
Hornbill Private Lodge is fully equipped with everything you need - from braai lapa and extra bar and social area, porch with birds and animals that drink and eat water. Very secure and the mesh and wire on doors and windows is a winner at keeping out bugs, mosquitoes and animals, especially blue monkeys. The accommodation also included a game viewer with own ranger once a day. The splash pool is well located and very nice and refreshing. Will definitely recommend the place and will definitely go again.
The lodge is beautiful. There are lovely activities to do, and it is definitely very fun for all ages. The kids loved it, and I would highly recommend Hornbill Private Lodge. I would go back anytime.

We booked the lodge for friends as we celebrated a 50th in the wild. The lodge was stunning, friends couldn't stop being impressed. I'm in awe with the client service that Jaco attended to our guests, the friendliness, knowledge and care is far more than I have experienced in a very long time. The house is surrounded by beautiful nature and the wildlife came to the house. The various lapas and swimming pool ensured that there was enough space for everyone. The new owners Jaco and Wayne were great hosts and made us feel very much at home. We will definitely visit again.

It was a nice weekend, the GPS coordinates are just wrong on Google Maps. There are some small things that need to be replaced such as light bulbs and the faucet in the kitchen. The animals come to the lodge every morning.
The lodge was so nice and we had a great time during our stay, we even enjoyed going to game drive that was the greatest thing ever.

There are an awful lot of ants in the kitchen and sometimes it was difficult to prepare meals. In the downstairs bathroom, one of the faucets is off. We all had a great time and it was so nice to have all the amenities around the house.

Everything in the facility is there, but it's slightly neglected.
Even the cleaner agreed that the house had not been cleaned for a long time. It's not the first time I've rented a house in Mabalingwe and for what I paid, it's shameful. There was still food in the kitchen sink drain, the floors were dirty and I could go on. It's a nice house from the outside, but needs a lot of attention. The photos are misleading.
