A perfect overnighter. Big, comfortable room and bathroom, coffee station, right next to multiple great restaurants. My WiFi sadly was not working, but apart from that it was an excellent stay and I'll definitely stay at the accommodation again.

It was clean and suited our purpose. I found the 'see-through' curtains unsettling. If I can see out, then people can see in. There are young guys that bother in the street. Also, please fix the window latch in the bathroom. I may be more unsettled than others, as I have been through some experiences. I think there may be other rooms that one could request?

The hostess went out of her way to accommodate us. It is such a lovely street, and all the good restaurants are within walking distance. It is just off the main road in Colesberg, which makes it convenient for a stopover in your travels.
Clean rooms, well equipped bathroom and even a full ice tray in fridge which is unusual. Nothing like a scotch on the rocks after a long drive.

We only slept over one night after a very long road trip. We got there after check-in time and they were waiting for us so we could check-in. Rooms were very neat and clean and we slept wonderfully on the soft beds. Bathroom was also very clean with very hot water.

The accommodation is perfect for an overnight stay if you are on your way on holiday or perhaps for work in the area. It is neat, clean and we were welcomed very kindly. The accommodation is also very close to some fantastic places to eat in Colesberg. We will definitely return here in the future.

We have nothing to be unhappy about. Will stay there again if we travel through Coleberg. One of the better places to definitely recommend. Reception was very friendly and we received all our information. Slept great and although quite close to the N1 it was completely quiet. Another great bonus was the sun block curtains behind the filter curtains in Room 11 which kept out light. We find very few places to spend the night that consider it necessary, and therefore we will stay there again precisely because the owner takes into account that not everyone prefers light. Secure parking. Good restaurants nearby and everything in room that was needed, also a battery light if discharging. Lovely, large shower that works. Clean and tidy.

We had a great stay at Horse and Mill. It's clean and tidy, and there was even a microwave in our room if you wanted to reheat road food. The shower was also heavenly. Some of the rooms are opposite restaurants, but that didn't bother me too much.
Easy to find and well located. Had a good meal at the pub. The rooms could do with a couple more amenities, e.g. a bin in the bathroom, better lotion, and shower products. Overall, the room was great and the bed was comfortable. If the housekeeping staff could come after the checkout time or at least a couple of hours later than 7:15, that would also be preferable.
The owner was accommodating. It was clean and neat. Maybe a little outdated but comfortable.

We often stay at Horse and Mill and it's always a nice place to sleep over. I forgot my sleeping pillow there. I asked Jacky to forward to me. Although I waited a while for the courier to deliver it, because it is in the Karoo, I just want to say thank you! I received it and appreciate your effort to package and send it to me. I can recommend the Horse and Mill and would stay there anytime. Thank you very much again!
Nice and clean guest room, but unfortunately located across from a pub with noise until late at night. Also, residential unit is detached from main building which is not communicated in advance. However, unit was clean and tidy.
The place is very decent and clean. If there is load shedding you still have access to electricity. All that was not nice at all is that there is no shower door on it. For me it's not fashion and one of the beds, every time a person turns I hear it and wake up and the main bed is not right, it feels like you are sleeping down. But apart from that we could drink coffee and use the fridge and all the other stuff works fine. But for the price and the shower and beds, the price was a bit expensive.

Unfortunately the room is opposite the bar and it was noisy until late on Friday night. Loud voices and motorbikes.
Room was ready early. Damp musty smell in the room, the mattress had collapsed in the middle.
I am very unhappy. First of all, reception is a terribly untidy office. The room we slept in was directly opposite the bar which is part of the guest house. We didn't sleep because the noise from the bar and had to call the police shortly after midnight to break up a fight in the street right outside our window. We then packed the car and drove. So with no sleep took the long way. We went to eat at the bar, where we had to sit in a sloppy little garden, where the fence around is falling down and had to wait more than an hour for our food, also bad service.
Floors were dirty, fridge barely worked, bathroom door didn't have a handle to close.
People are our type of people we like.

We were 5 persons who slept over. The rooms were nicely furnished, clean and tidy. We were received very kindly and the hostess was very helpful. Although it was at a very busy time, everything was very calm and well organized. Perhaps the coffee and tea facilities could be supplemented a bit, as well as the necessary cups and teaspoons. Initial perception, because we were at the pub door, was that we should we go elsewhere. There were a few people drinking in the street, however not too noisy and at dusk all was quiet. Very friendly and accommodation people in Colesburg and safe as can be. Accommodation was very basic, but adequate.
The room with a small garden is very convenient if you have to travel with a small dog. The pipes of the showers in the rooms next door make a lot of noise, especially if one of the neighbors wants to shower only after 12 and the other before 6:00. Despite that, the room is comfortable and clean.
We went to the Horse and Mill Restaurant, had to look for the waitress myself. Quality has gone down, was not happy with the food.
Room neat, but infrastructure historically outdated and the electrical wiring appears to be sloppy and overloaded, cause for concern!

The ladies in room 1 had to walk through room 2 to get to the bathroom. My biggest problem was the bathroom door being too big for the hole! He couldn't close. Horse and Mill knew this, and still the unit was rented out. The guesthouse never sees me again! Ciao.
I so wish I never saw this place on your website. Yes - nice big and comfortable room decision. I wish the ban on alcohol during Covid was still valid. If you turn off the raging air conditioner, the bar's music blares and the drunken laughter and shouts of their guests. As a weary traveler, this is not what you want to hear at 11.38pm. This to me is weak what they call Horse and Mill is the perfect resting place for tired, hungry and thirsty travelers. Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch. I will never sleep here again. Block list. Finding leftover bread and food in the cupboard from previous visitors was also not at all acceptable to me. Because then how is it cleaned?

Horse and Mill accommodated us by giving us a larger family room and a garage for our car. We slept in Room 12 and although it was directly opposite a restaurant and bar, there was no noise and we were able to sleep peacefully. Thank you Horse and Mill for an easy overnight experience.

Lovely rooms. Friendly reception. Appreciate that they accommodate dogs. We were in a room with a back door opening up on a patch of grass. A bit uncomfortable with unloading in narrow street with the overnight parking a bit further up the street for this specific unit. We had lovely pizza from the restaurant right across the street.

Late night bar and gambling just opposite made us feel unsafe, couldn't keep windows open, rooms were dark, stuffy and smelled of old cigarette smoke. Stricter enforcement of no-smoking rules needed. Couldn't stay second night.
For overnight with single vehicle, I can recommend. With larger trailer, Echo, it doesn't work well. Not really pet friendly.

Incredibly delicious old-world charm. Modern facilities that are clean. Top notch hospitality without bothering you unnecessarily and not to mention the nice pub-Restaurant. There you hang out with everyone.
As an overnight stay I would recommend the place. The room I stayed in is big enough for one person or a couple. The bathroom is actually perfect. The shower's pressure was good for the large shower head it has. Plus, there had been plenty of hot water. I am grateful to the lady, presumably the owner or manager, who tackled the person who started blaring music from his car. There are one or two items that I would like to address. I would like a small table there with a chair. Although space is limited. More clarity where the reception is. A few people thought my room was the reception. The freezer compartment of the fridge may need a cleaning ─ packed away from the ice. I am not sure if the restaurant is owned by the same owners. The food I ate was pretty good. The waiter I had at one point just disappeared. When I went to inquire at the front of the restaurant to be able to pay, he was then called. He walked out of a small room, not sure what the room was, with a glass in his hand. Unfortunately I can't confirm if he drank because I have no idea what was in the glass. But, it creates quite a bit of suspicion and a bad impression if you have to go look for the waiter. With that, I never made a reservation for breakfast as expected.
Reception unprofessional, the fridge had leftovers from previous guests in it, used stirring sticks for coffee were lying around, wooden board in front of sort was broken and we couldn't get the wooden door locked. Fortunately there was a security gate. Parking is safe but very tight, especially if all the cars are big.
The location is dreadful, the room and amenities need a lot of updating and it's very, very pricey for what one gets - linen old and in need of replacement, found a tear in the duvet cover on going to bed.
I would definitely recommend Horse and Mill for an overnight stop. Conveniently located opposite the restaurant. Our van was too big to fit in the parking space and Jackie was kind enough to let us use her garage for the night.

My wife and daughter and I spent the night at Horse and Mill. It was delicious. Slept well in a neat place, clean and safe. Had a nice meal at the restaurant and just had a nice rest. Will definitely recommend it to all my friends and family.

A second home away from home.
Quaint guesthouse with safe parking. Our room was neat and luxurious with aircon and basic DStv channels. Was convenient to just cross the road and eat at the restaurant. They can also bring the food to your room. We stayed there with our 2 year old and he was able to play with his cars at the restaurant. The shower in the room is so spacious that our whole family fit in it. It was also a surprise to receive a little packet of rusks to enjoy with our coffee the next morning. Even the pets there are friendly.
My husband and I slept here on the way back from the Cape to Pretoria. Colesberg itself is no wonder. The rooms at the establishment were indeed very neat and beautiful and had everything that was needed, at a very reasonable price. All that bothered me a little was that I had a certain feeling of insecurity and was aware of it when closing gates and doors. Furthermore, it was definitely value for money and a nice place to sleep.
Was a good stop after a long journey and the food was good.
The reception area is unfortunately located right next to a very smoky bar, which does not create a good first impression. Fortunately, the accommodation itself is across the road, very tidy and perfect for one night. One can also walk over to the restaurant for a nice, yet simple dinner - quite sufficient for one night's stay. The parking lot is small, little space behind the gate. Good service, and nice coffee and biscuits available.
Nice spacious, clean and comfortable overnight accommodation in Colesberg. Walking distance to restaurants and we ended a lovely holiday with a delicious dinner at Bordeaux. Thanks again to Jackie for the help when we were gone half an hour and realized we had forgotten our computers in the cupboard. Sorry about the 2 blankets gone from 2 of our rooms because we didn't know what to do with the keys and left the rooms unlocked. We can easily recommend Horse and Mill.

My stay three years ago was much better. The rooms are very comfortable and the beds sleep wonderfully. Unfortunately we couldn't use the shower because the water just drips from the shower head and it's either hot or cold and that's what we'll remember about the stay. There are coffee and tea facilities and delicious biscuits, but there are no teaspoons to stir the coffee/tea with.
We arrived in the afternoon and were met by a lady other than the owner. She did not tell us about coffee or tea or the fridge. The microwave was still in the box and we were told we can take it ourselves if we want to use it. However, it was not a crisis. The big problem was when we wanted to go to sleep ... the bedding was dirty and smelled. Fortunately we had our pillows and we just lay on top of the blankets.
