Young, the Breede remains beautiful and a soulful place for us. We have been on houseboats on the Breede many times, but this was the first time by this service provider. Their reception and customer service leaves a lot of room for improvement, there are tons of rules and paperwork, if costs extra money, communication even during booking was bad, most of the staff, especially at reception, are cold and the boats are equipped with as little as possible and not well maintained. The R10 000 deposit is waived! I'd rather pay the extra few rand and use another service provider. Fortunately, the Breede's splendor makes up for all the drama.
The boat was in an overall very bad condition, and clearly not maintained for a long time. The pillows were dirty, bedclothes torn, the pillows so full of dust, toilet leaked, engine smoked, struggled to start, cutlery very old and battered. The boat had to be back at 09:00 on the last morning and if you go over it it is R200 per hour. For the rate of per day it is ridiculous. According to them, we used 50 liters and asked R1400 for it, i.e. R 28 per litre. We drove a total of about 22 km with the boat and according to them used 50 litres. It is impossible. So it worked out R63 per km while my V6 4 liter Prado works out about R3.75 per km. The engine was only a 40 Mariner and we only cruised.
Our time on the Breede River was so nice and peaceful! The boat is easy to control and we did the whole route up and down the river. The natural beauty and silence is food for the soul and we can't wait for our next visit.
The staff needs to be a bit more diplomatic, they seem very inexperienced. Also you have to pay for anything extra, like ice and having the loo cleaned.
