The facilities were maintained well, and the staff was professional. The room had everything you would need. 10/10—If I had to complain about something, it would be the pillows on the bed. The restaurant on-site was amazing, and the breakfasts were out of this world. I would return to Il Castello without hesitation.
Il Castello was a breathtaking experience. Photos cannot capture it. This is a "bucket list" item for sure. I look forward to visiting again.

The staff, stay, and everything else was fine. The dinner at the restaurant was a disaster. My wife had pork pasta and the pork was off. I had a steak and it was thick on one side and thin on the other, therefore it wasn't cooked properly. Our guests' food was also not good. The curry was more like a soup stew with no curry flavour, and the starters were very small.

Stay was nice and met my expectations.
Firstly, the rooms are not well insulated as advertised. I had to complain after sleeping poorly the first night, and we got moved to a different room, which was a bit better. The food was an absolute disaster; it took forever to be served. The staff also lacked consistency. When I inquired about the included breakfast, I was initially told it consisted of cold meats and breads. However, upon asking again, we were provided with the hotel guest menu for breakfast selection. The following morning, we were given the regular menu instead of the hotel guest menu, and when we asked about it, the waiter rudely claimed ignorance. The outdoor tables were dirty, and the table linen inside the restaurant was also soiled. On our last morning, we had to fetch our utensils ourselves, and our toast for the South African breakfast never arrived. Our last dinner with steaks was a mess - I strongly advise against ordering steaks. The meat was not cooked as requested and very tough. The only consistently friendly staff members were Brandon and Steve. The rest did not greet us at all, and when asked something, they seemed annoyed.
Complaints submitted on the evaluation form to give management an opportunity to deal with them. No contact.

II Castello is great and highly recommended. The staff are super friendly and make you feel at home. From arrival to departure we were taken care of. The room was specially decorated with balloons for my birthday and champagne was served upon arrival. We are very excited and look forward to our next visit with you.
From the moment of arrival, the staff go out of their way to make your stay as convenient and comfortable as possible. The quality of the customer service and professionalism can certainly compete on an international level. The food is top notch and the options they offer to eat and drink are unlimited and make your choice "difficult". It was my birthday weekend and from the moment I made the reservation, efforts were made to find out what they could do to make it special. Finally - Mieke, the receptionist, has a lot of potential to go far in her profession. She radiates a passion for her work and does not hesitate for a moment to help and/or satisfy you.
The service was next level from when I arrived, my bags were collected. Very friendly and efficient lady at the front desk and Jeff looked after anything I needed. I had dinner that evening and the food was incredible. I will be back.

Il Castello has a beautiful view over Clarens and the surrounding mountains. Our room was a bit small and didn't have a fridge which is why I only give 4 stars for value for money. Furthermore, our stay was unbeatable. There are different options for breakfast available that will suit any person's taste. Furthermore, breakfast is served in different places indoors or outdoors. Everyone goes out of their way to accommodate guests and the service is unsurpassed and always with a smile. A big bonus is the shuttle service available. This is one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed.

For our recent Clarens visit, we decided on II Castello again, because the first time was such a pleasant experience. The service of all the staff is excellent, everything is neat and stylish, and breakfast was beautifully served. The only thing I would have liked in the room was a chair on which I could sit and read or sit and work on my laptop by the little table. We will visit II Castello again and recommend it to family and friends.

I would definitely recommend Castello. However, I chose a room with a fireplace when booking. The fireplace was outside and not in the room and because it is now winter, we could not use it. Big disappointment. Room also refers to mountain view and it was almost not visible at all.

I specifically chose Castello because we wanted to celebrate my daughter's birthday with a spa treat. Disappointingly, Castello could no longer help us with the spa treatments at short notice.
