Wonderful. A hidden gem. Excellent staff, interesting and quirky environment and fantastic food.
We had a wonderful stay. Felt like we went back in time. The buildings have so much history and are so well looked after.
Rooms are spacious and in winter the fireplace was a plus.
It was very nice. The fireplace in the room was fantastic and the food was very tasty.
Als was quite a lot of room. Can't find anything wrong. Will stay there every time we go there again.
Amazing staff, so friendly and welcoming. Awesome little place.
Staff extremely friendly and welcoming. Love the way the room was decorated.

Was only an overnight visit to John Jack but truly excellent. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The only negative is the location which is just behind the main street in Chrissiesmeer and the traffic is not that bad, because there is not much, but the coffee shop/liquor shop where there was loud music playing for about 2 hours, which went into the room doof doof Had a great meal at the on-site restaurant. Thank you very much!
Friendly staff, lovely room, tasty food.
Room great, food good, during the night the water in the faucets dried up without explanation. Nobody came in the morning to offer an alternative for the problem. Luckily the toilets seem to be on a separate system. Could be an isolated issue due to load shedding, worth finding out beforehand. As seniors, we could have done with some help offloading our luggage as parking was not close to the room and we had to navigate some stairs.
We really enjoyed the room and the people! It was very neat and peaceful.
A gem by the lakes.
Perfect stop over for us. Friendly helpful staff.
We had a wonderful stay. The room was beautiful and very well equipped.
Stayed and ate very well.
It was an average stay.
Definitely a good spot to do en route to Kruger. Will revisit.
We had a wonderful stay! The room was nicely and tastefully finished and the fireplace was a great treat. Had a great meal at The Billiard Room on site. Would definitely recommend John Jack Inn and hopefully see you again soon.
Beautiful room, friendly and helpful staff. The fireplace made our stay super cozy and kept us warm in the cold weather. And the amazing history of Chrissiesmeer proudly displayed thoughout the inn made our stay really memorable. Thank you for a great weekend.
Was there for a wedding and therefore little on the premises itself, but everything was clean, comfortable, comfortable and staff were friendly and helpful.
We attended a wedding just outside Chrissiesmeer and John Jack Inn made us feel like we just wanted to stay a night longer!

Beautiful place! Clean and tidy. Marlene, you're the best!

The rooms, Billiard Room and Gin Bar was special.
It is way too expensive for the purpose it served for us - literally overnight accommodation for a wedding around the corner. Very nice and tidy, would have liked a fan in the room during the heat wave. To indicate to guests when load shedding would take place would also have been nice, we got to our room when the power went out and we still struggled with the shower. The place has real potential, the devil is in the "details".
We had a good stay at the property, unfortunately, when we arrived back at the accommodation in the evening and try to light the fire in the fireplace, all of the smoke flooded the room, none of it actually extracted. We were then forced to open all doors and windows to get the smoke out of the room making it even colder.
Quality for money and amazing to stay with the kids. The Billiard Room next door for food was incredible.
Very friendly service and the pizzas are delicious.
Wow, such a lovely place so quite was able to work with no distractions.
Was very tidy, very comfortable bed, and good value for money. Very unique and stylish decor.
Very relaxing. Very nice.
Very nice and very neat and clean.
It was a beautiful room with a lovely bed and bathroom and a very nice breakfast the next morning! A hidden gem in the middle of nowhere.
The attention to detail at John Jack's infrastructure is beautiful and atheistic. An experience of history, charm and surrounding water streams makes for a perfect location to escape the city buzz. The staff and patrons are extremely friendly and helpful. We appreciated the fresh and clean room, with the cosiest setting during a hot days and cold high veld nights. Breakfast and amenities from the loveliest of hosts and wonderful space.
Loved the free range cows.
Was a nice, nostalgic experience. My numerous photos testify to that.
Stay was only one night - breakfast was fantastic!
We stayed in Room 3. The bed sloped to the middle. I believe emphasis should be placed on having a very comfortable bed to go with the lovely linen. I think a fan (even if just portable should be made known and be available for each room). The Filter coffee in each room is a very nice option but would be made complete with Fresh full cream milk (not long life) and for my tea!. I believe there should be a choice for breakfast, not just for eggs, but also cereals, juice, etc.
Unfortunately, there were rowdy fellow guests. We spent the night at this accommodation. We will not easily stay there again. The adjacent bar is a problem. Upon arrival, there was confusion about where our room was. My reservation said room 6, but room 4 was given to us. The manager of the accommodation was not there and the lady at the bar and restaurant stepped in and handed over our key. We suspect our room was given to other guests (presumably friends/frequent visitors from Mbabane) these guests later turned out to disturb our entire night's rest. The man shouted at his wife throughout the night and it was extremely unpleasant. The management of the place was nowhere to be seen and we hid properly in our room!
Would recommend anytime and the breakfast was very very nice.
The rooms were very convenient and neat. Friendly, helpful staff. Delicious breakfast. Will definitely go again.
Enjoyed eating and hanging out. Can recommend the Gin Shop. Staff friendly and helpful. Accommodation excellent. Hope to be able to go again!
Beautiful place with a history! Best gin bar! Make their own gin!
We booked a room for one night and after checking in and unpacking, we changed rooms without any problems because we were looking for something that allowed a bit more self-catering than the room we were in first. There were no extra charges, and we were able to move in quickly without any problems. Very helpful and friendly and quickly makes a plan to accommodate people where necessary! Will stay there again.
Rooms are clean and the food served was excellent.
It is a very nice and neat place. People are very friendly and service very good. Will definitely go back there again.
Will recommend for sure.
Enjoyed a lot
The breakfast was a bit disappointing. The bacon was rock hard and the plates cold, freezing day.
Had to look for someone to get the key. No one who provided information regarding breakfast arrangements etc. not. Poor lighting outside. Surrounding area unmaintained (garden) etc. No personal attention. Had to find our way ourselves.
Room is OK, water is nice and warm.
Brilliant jewel, lovely host, lovely rooms, we'll be back to explore the area some more.
Room was beautiful, immediately felt at home. Love the bathroom and massive shower. Breakfast next morning was delicious. Definitely value for money. The Gin Shop is well worth a visit. Even though we arrived earlier, we were immediately helped and checked in to get ready for the wedding. Appreciate your effort and kind consideration!
Hostess and staff were very friendly and helpful. The relaxed atmosphere, the historic interest of the village, the craft shops and the birding walk made our visit most enjoyable.
Very clean and tidy. Good location.
Received very good service. Rooms are very neat. The fireplace was a bonus for the cold winter weather.
Very quaint, clean and fresh. Lovely host.
It is a testament to the fact that you can have a beautiful place in a beautiful location and still set yourself miles apart with an amazing staff and wonderful service. The room was comfortable and well designed. It was our first trip to Chrissiesmeer and I would definitely recommend John Jack Inn without hesitation.
Nice accommodation with a lovely fireplace!
Had a nice stay, everything was very clean and tidy. We were well received. The bathroom is also very comfortable. Enjoy and have a great stay
We had a lovely stay and everything was perfect! The Honeymoon Suite was neat, clean and beautifully decorated. We will definitely stay there again.
Everything went smoothly with our arrival and stay. The stone house was well equipped and we were even able to invite people over for a braai with enough space inside and a large veranda on which we could have fun all weekend. The location is also very good - close enough to everything but also private so that one can enjoy a peaceful stay.
The 1880 cottage was a wonderful experience and the food at the Billiard Room was unbeatable (trout, shrimp, etc).
We were very kindly received. The rooms are very neat and comfortable. The breakfasts were always delicious. We had a great time and highly recommend John Jack Inn.
We were kindly received and after the initial problem with the water supply was quickly resolved, our stay went smoothly. The hospitality and nice breakfast was also a big plus.
Neat accommodation with decor that fits with the period in which the building was built and at the same time is luxurious. Everything you need is there, with place to eat and drink op die terrace! They even made a friendly delivery to the room! Highly recommended!
We were kindly welcomed, immediately felt at home. The rooms are neat, we slept very well and comfortably. We will definitely stay there again.
We really enjoyed it at John Jack Inn. The people are so friendly and helpful. We wanted to braai when we arrived and before we knew it the braai was ready and lit for us. The atmosphere is so peaceful and we will definitely stay there again.
Friendly staff, room was very neat. Ideally located, had a great meal at The Billiard Room and sampled gin at The Gin Shop.
We stopped overnight here on our way to the Kruger. We were made very welcome. Our room was beautiful, spacious and comfortable. We had everything we needed except for aircon or a fan. It had been a very hot day but cooled down at night. I think it's usually cold there and there's a fascinating antique fireplace in the room. There's a restaurant with an amazing menu. We enjoyed the happy community of people that came for a meal that evening. There was an outside fire which some people sat around. We enjoyed learning about the history of the place. Altogether a very pleasant stay. We felt very safe. No fences or burglarbars!
My husband and I spent the night at John Jack Inn on January 1st. The rooms are beautiful, very comfortable, clean and very well located. The service is excellent and Elbie and Pieter's hospitality is incredible - couldn't be better! It's a gem of a place! Even though it was a holiday and the restaurant was not open, Pieter and Elbie went out of their way to bring us a braai, as well as the most delicious meat packs, salad, barbecue sandwiches and drinks, and set them for us in the " lounge" area - what a lovely evening we had! We can recommend anyone to book here, and we will definitely go again ourselves. Great place to relax and beautiful surroundings. The included breakfast is fantastic!
You must visit the "Gin Shop" - very interesting!
I would happily recommend John Jack. The location is good and the people are friendly and helpful. The place has a great atmosphere. The house we stayed in was nice and big and the rooms are beautiful.
Beautiful old-world village and accommodation among "soft buttery hills". Good experience, nice breakfast, nice hostess.
Chrissiesmeer is a nice place for a weekend, beautiful surroundings, quiet town and lots of things to do. John Jack's staff were very pleasant, the restaurant is good and the rooms are "quaint" but comfortable and clean. The Gin shop on site is a must.
We arrived in Chrissiesmeer on Saturday, on one of the worst days of the year. It was cold and rainy. We were helped quickly and even though we were early they allowed us to book in. We then left for a wedding and only got back late. The breakfast next morning was very tasty and after breakfast we left for home, so we did not have a very long stay there.
Friendly reception, warm rooms and good breakfast.
John Jack should just replace their pillows please. Would be nice if one can choose between 2 options. Otherwise it's 100%.
Beautiful, clean and neat with antique glory.
Tasteful, even in the finest detail, particularly beautiful!
We travelled by motorbike and the staff went to every trouble imaginable to be helpful. They dropped off wood so we could braai and provided braai packs as well as the most delicious salad. The breakfast next morning was top quality! We will definitely stay here again!
Wonderful reception and lovely time. Relaxed to the full. Everyone feels like family there.
Clean and tidy room with a nice breakfast. I can recommend it.
Dining room is in the bar and food is good except for some drunkards language - some people may find it off-putting.
Although we went to see birds, Chrissiesmeer and surroundings were a very big surprise! The owners of Johns Jack upgraded us to the McClouds Cottage. Our stay there was lovely and it was private and peaceful. Esbie and Ton spoiled us with Boesman drawings and a tour of old civilizations as well as a tour of the NG Church in Machadodorp which was designed by Gerhard Moerdyk. Ton's knowledge of the history of the area, among other things. ancient civilizations were the biggest surprise of our stay. The Billiart Room's meals were delicious. Everyone who loves this country should visit the village.
The room and the shower was excellent, delicious breakfast and divine dinners. We will book this place again. Because of the rain we couldn't drive around much, especially not the gravel roads. Crissiesmeer (en McClouds) will see us again at a later stage.
I can recommend it to anyone looking for tranquility along with the natural beauty. The stay was even better.
We had a pleasant stay. The wool shop is special and worth a visit. The gin shop is also something different.
Pleasantly surprised because what a super great spot in a little town with not much going on! We spent one night at John Jacks Inn (McClouds) and enjoyed the evening. The rooms are really lovely. Massive shower. Comfortable bed & lovely linen. Tea & coffee tray. Would definitely return and recommend. The little restaurant 'The Billiard Room' next door was great, good food and service. We had an early start the next day so didn't have breakfast.
The village is so beautiful!
