Elegant, comfortable, farm-style accommodation is offered The Pepper Tree Cottage. Pepper Tree Cottage was the original homestead on the farm and was lovingly restored with the help of an environmental architect.
The cottage is ideal for a couple. Pepper Tree Cottage contains 1 double bedroom, and there is a double sleeper couch in the lounge (which can accommodate children). The unique bathroom boasts a deep Victorian-style bathtub and a shower. The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering with a bar fridge, 2-burner gas stove, and a wood-burning stove in winter. The eclectic décor combines antique fittings and African artwork with local farm paraphernalia.
In true wilderness style, and to minimise the carbon footprint, electricity is generated by solar power. Waste is either composted or recycled. Blackwood timber, from our ongoing alien-clearing project, and natural materials sourced on the farm were used in the cottage’s restoration.

25 guests' feedbackWhat a gem of a place! Perfect to escape and unplug from the world. The hosts were very friendly and the personal touches of spinach and lemons from the organic veggie garden were appreciated.
A very special stay that allowed us to disconnect from the stresses of everyday life. The best tour guides we could have asked for. We can't wait to come back.
Will go back again! Over and over!
Ń Incredible experience! The drive to the cottage is special. Drive slowly and enjoy it. The cottage and view are more beautiful than the photos. The communication is brilliant and the effort with small things like fresh flowers makes it special. We are going back for sure - and for longer!
I absolutely loved my solo stay. The cottage is absolutely magnificent and tastefully done. I could have spent a month there. Thanks to the hosts for being such amazing and for allowing me to stay on their farm paradise.
Neat place, comfortable for 2 adults. It only has 1 double bed, facilities are not suitable for more than 2 people. Need a high ride or 4x4 vehicle to get there.
We enjoyed the beautifully renovated authentic farmhouse with every attention to detail that you could think of. Saskia was very helpful and friendly. The environment, remoteness, and the space to unwind, relax, and disconnect from the outside world were inspiring.
Thoughtful and considerate touches by the host. Very welcoming. Stunning location. Cottage cosy and well-equipped. Will be back.
Very pleasant stay, the host was superb with lots of small touches like some fresh, organic vegetables from the garden left in the kitchen. Thanks for a wonderful time, hope to stay longer next time.
Beautiful house in the mountains, wonderfully peaceful in beautiful scenery. Would definitely recommend!
Absolutely perfect place to stay. Will definitely be back soon.
The cottage is charming and beautifully presented, the walks on the farm are breathtakingly beautiful and the hosts are amazing, not least of all in their balance of making sure you are taken care of while ensuring you are left to enjoy the peace.
A special gem in the mountains! What a wonderful experience. We loved every single detail of this house and it's location. Beautiful hiking trails. We surely rested in this beautiful nature!
If you are looking for a place where you don't want to deal with a mobile phone, TV and WiFi, then Joubertskraal is the place for you. The history behind the Pepper Tree Cottage is remarkable. The fresh vegetables from Saskia's "veggie patch" were something special. Then the charcoal stove brings back childhood memories, we cooked food on the charcoal stove every night. Our days were full of cycling and walking in the mountains and thus saw a lot of wildlife. In the evening we looked at the stars. Thank you very much for your hospitality, you have a winning recipe. Keep it up!
Had a great stay on the farm. Will definitely go back again and again.
Historic and very well equipped house in a beautiful narrow valley. Ideal for 2 people who like seclusion and comfort. The bunch of fresh vegetables and herbs in the kitchen was a winner. Sorry we couldn't stay longer to explore the hiking trails.
The Joubertskraal cottage is a little piece of heaven! The atmosphere is so relaxing and comfortable. The unit itself is incredibly neat and has lovely finishes. The road to the unit is rough, but don't let that put you off the drive, because it is definitely a wonderful experience!
Never have we felt so relaxed and recharged. The peaceful surroundings were magical and the cottage was just beautiful. Thank you for an awesome weekend.
We were expected, received a friendly and everything was in order. The cottage was very comfortable, tastefully restored and we had a wonderful weekend - two nights was too short
Very good service and hospitality. We really enjoyed our stay.
The beautifully restored house is fully equipped and the bath was a special treat. The coal stove for heat took us back to visits with grandma and grandpa. The host was friendly and reception was very welcoming. The children really enjoyed the space and the mountains.
I would recommend this place to people who want to experience nature and have a great stay.
We were welcomed with a fire burning, the charcoal was on to heat the cottage. We got there late so Edward set our chairs right by the fire while the starry splendor awaited us. We enjoyed the time away from the city.
Our stay at Joubertskraal Farm was everything and more than we hoped for. Saskia made us feel welcome even before we arrived on the farm - her communication with us was super. The cottage was absolutely charming. We loved everything about it. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, the lovely walks, sitting on the stoep just watching the day goes by. Hein loved the mountain bike routes. Anton made sure we had the most amazing fire wood and braai. It was a wonderful weekend away. We will definitely be back. Thank you, Saskia, Anton and Murray-John.
