We had a great stay and the host was very friendly and considerate. Each of us even received an unexpected Lindt Easter Bunny. The view of the mountains changes every day depending on the sun and the clouds, every day was more beautiful than the previous day.

The unit was very comfortable, tastefully decorated and well equipped. There is unfortunately no cleaning service, which is a big drawback, especially on holiday. The TV is very small and it's not a smart TV.
From the welcome to the checkout, everything went smoothly. Johan stayed in contact while we were en route to make sure we found the place, and settled us in nicely while giving us nice tips on how to make the most of our stay in Clarens. The room is impeccably furnished and well-equipped, and the bed is super comfortable.

We celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary this week and spent the last 2 nights of our holiday visiting Jovali. What a special place? The host couple were so friendly and truly thought of everything, down to sherry and a delicious freshly baked carrot cake that awaited us. There was fresh milk, delicious biscuits, delicious top-class coffee, Lindt chocolate and other goodies, up to a bottle of fenugreek seed for the many types of finches who came to visit. The room was spotless and everything is of the highest quality. It is romantically old-worldly beautiful, with breathtaking views of the Maluti mountains. Saw the full moon rise over the mountains, what a breathtaking sight! The next morning it was again the beautiful sunrise. The place is on a farm, but you don't feel like you're on a farm. It is approximately 6 km outside of Clarens, so all the hustle and bustle of town is only a few minutes away. When you sit on the porch at Jovali and the cool evening air blows over you as the sun colors the world as it sets, you feel the pressures of a busy city life drain from your bones and leave you light and floating, so that you are among the millions of beautiful stars in the galaxy above you want to find your way. A true fairy tale for a city child.

Jovali is the perfect getaway from the city in the mountains. Peaceful, tranquil and beautiful. We were welcomed with sherry, red velvet cake and the attention to detail and decor is simply stunning. Thank you Johan and Tim.

All our expectations were exceeded. Jovali really goes out of their way to make guests feel welcome. And the choc eclaires were an absolute treat! Wow! Attention was paid to all the little details, even bird seed was provided. Thank you very much Tim and Johan, we will definitely come back. The very only slight negative was the dirt track, it was rougher and rockier than expected (not recommended for smaller vehicles), but if you drive slowly enough it's not too bad.

Beautiful view, quality accommodation, extra effort and attention paid, no effort is spared to make the stay pleasant, we put the place on our short list.
Within 7 minutes from town, but over the hill away from town that you can hit two birds with one stone. You can have the beauty and tranquility of being alone overlooking the mountains and within 7 minutes be back in town in the buzz of Clarens or having a 5 star meal at Clementines or at Treat. Little extras in the room were special. Loved the birds in the morning. A 500 m walk down to the river is a romantic walk and great spot for picnic. Seeing the moon rise above the mountains at night is a treat as well and the sunrise.

We regularly stay at very nice places. Every once in a while, though, you stumble upon a piece of sublime serenity - that is Jovali. Wonderful location, comfortable and the staff make sure one is happy. II intend to make use of Jovali again in the future.
The accommodation is very neat and clean. There is a nice trail to walk down to the stream. Very safe and the view to the mountains is very beautiful. We were welcomed very kindly and everything was explained very well. Easy to find and very close to town. Would recommend anytime.

A few words to sum up our 4 days: quiet, beautiful views, underfloor heating, kitchenette equipped with everything you need and of very good quality, fresh flowers, rusks and koeksisters in the fridge, sherry and chocolate, quality bedding as well as kitchenware, hair dryer, nice towels and soap in the bathroom, undercover parking, everything needed for a nice braai (just bring your meat). And the snow on the mountain was the recipe for the delicious homemade rusks that our hostess sent. We will definitely stay at Jovali again. Ideal for a quiet getaway for 2 people. You can really just pack your clothes! Everything is provided. Dine in Clarens at all the great eateries.
Everything neat and clean. The bed needs a new (sturdy) mattress. People who have had a back operation or the like cannot sleep on the bed. Everything else is fine and very clean and neat. Thank you. Cars with low profile tires should drive the path to Jovali very slowly.

Where do you start. The view is breathtaking! The house is very nice and clean! The uncle and aunt are so friendly, they are like real "grandparents"! They were so worried about our kids and my boy was absolutely crazy about them. Waking up with that view and sunrise every morning , feels as if one is a little closer to heaven. It's tranquil and so quiet in the evenings. The garden is a beautiful and nicely cared for. P.S. Thank you very much for my plants and seeds.

Aukeline, it was so nice, so well furnished, neat and with cookie cutters in the fridge, how much more could you want. The most delicious rusks, with milk in the fridge. If I go to Clarens again I will definitely stay there again. Such a beautiful view, quiet, in the evening the most beautiful sky and the shooting stars, I haven't seen it for a long time. We had a great stay at Jovali. The dead silence and scenery were exactly what we had in mind to forget about the rush of life. The kids enjoyed walking down the river and having a picnic. Remember to take drinking water if you want to sleep more than one night - the area's tap water can sometimes smell like sulphur. The rooms are neat and well-equipped. Even though the autumn wind was cool, the room was cosy and warm. A great experience!

What a wonderful weekend we had. On our arrival on Friday evening our room was nice and warm (underfloor heating was already on), sherry and chocolate on arrival and an extra treat in the fridge. We had 8 fantastic days at Jovali. Insufficient time to be able to enjoy, not only because of the fantastic location with breathtaking view from our bed, chair and veranda, but especially also the personal attention of our hostess and host. Braai facilities were also available and was only a stone's throw outside of town. The view from the porch was beautiful and makes you feel peaceful immediately. Jovali is well situated in a beautiful setting outside Clarens which is really close to everything, yet also offers the tranquility of a farm. Owners wonderful people who make you feel extremely welcome. Really good base to explore the area.
Beautiful place, excellent lay-out, beautiful area and very helpful people. Piece of dirt road isn't a problem and the only thing that bothered us was the smell of the tap water but bottled water is provided.
Jovali is well equipped to cater for all your requirements. Everything is clean and we were able to use all the facilities. The house is located in a beautiful area of Clarens and even with my low German vehicle I had no issues on the short distance dirt road. The owners are the nicest people who really care about the well-being of their customers. The mattress on the bed just needs replacement though.
Jovali is accommodation of the highest quality! There was a lot of attention to detail in the room we stayed in! Lots of interesting utility items that make it stand out from your typical guest house. The furniture is of high quality! Aukeline warned us about the sulfur smell in the water - apparently it can still be used safely by humans. This did not bother us as we took our own water with us. Both my wife and I slept very comfortably on the lovely bed! Probably the most comfortable I've ever slept in.
The residential unit is really beautifully furnished. It was so nice for us to open the curtains very early in the morning and lay and look at the mountains! We were looking for silence and natural beauty and found it at Jovali. The nights are dead silent. We could also go for a nice walk along the river and watch birds. We were very satisfied with our two day stay at Jovali. Close to Clarence but out of town away from the noise, just what we wanted. The view from the room overlooking the valley toward the mountains, very good. Excellent value.
We had a lovely stay at Jovali. Everything in the luxury unit is well thought out and the furnishings are tastefully done. There are delicious rusks put out for guests as well as koeksisters and milk left in the fridge. There is also sherry set out as well. The underfloor heating is a big plus, so we were warm and cosy all weekend!

Me and my husband and 3-year-old, unfortunately there was no playground for children, but she enjoyed the friendly animals.
Jovali was absolutely lovely. The self catering cottage has everything you would ever require on a weekend getaway. The kitchen has all the necessary utensils, the braai is stocked with charcoal and fire lighters and there are yummy rusks and koeksisters for your tea. The room itself is warm and cosy and heated blankets and under floor heating is provided which was a godsend in the middle of winter. Jovali is situated a couple of kms from Clarens itself and there is a short dirt road that needs to be navigated to get to there which was the only drawback. The views of the mountains are incredible and it is really lovely to be able to walk down to the river and enjoy a cup of tea surrounded by nature and no other people in sight. It really is a wonderful spot, great value for money and we would definitely be back.

It was very nice and neat. The hosts were very thoughtful in leaving coffee/tea/rusks etc. and all necessary kitchen utensils are provided. I did not feel unsafe but there is no security on the farm, anyone can enter at any time and it is quite a rough gravel road. I would recommend changing the mattresses, they are very soft so you keep rolling towards the middle. But overall very nice and I would certainly recommend it.

Jovali is perfect for a short getaway, perfect location overlooking the mountains and close to a river where you can have a nice picnic and relax. The friendliness and assistance from the owners make you feel welcome right from the get go. Not far from Clarens and other activities. Only thing to mention is that the last 80 m or so of the road is quite bad but drivable.
Breathtaking natural landscape and a calm environment with friendly service. Aukeline went to some effort phoning us to find out when we'd arrive seeing as it started to rain in Clarens. We appreciated the electrical blanket and heater in the bathroom on the cold Friday evening. The extra treats like the coffee, tea, milk, rusks etc. did not go unnoticed. As they say in Dutch: "Doe zo voort!"

We spent 5 very relaxing days at Jovali. I highly recommend it as peaceful accommodation in the most tranquil setting. It is within 5 minutes drive to the town centre of Clarens, but enjoys complete tranquility with uninterrupted views of the Maluti Mountains. A perfect venue where you can enjoy the stunning views from your patio! There are beautiful walks on the large property with access to the clear river with swimming and picnic areas. The hosts were very welcoming and gracious and the accommodation was pristine. We were extremely well looked after. Thank you!

Just incredible. The room's facilities were very good and sometimes it was also nice to cook for yourself. Clarens is less than 10 minutes' drive, but when you're at Jovali it feels like you can just look into the distance for days. A wonderful experience.
Everything was perfect! The room is neat, beautiful, very well equipped and everything in its place. We lacked nothing. You get more than you expect from self-catering. Delicious biscuits, milk, coffee, sugar and everything you need for a barbecue! It was excellent!
Covered/Protected parking will make this a top place to visit. The accommodation itself and the service are of a very high quality.

It's a very luxurious self-catering unit with everything you need and they provide coal and lightning. The view is very beautiful. Small children enjoy it a lot. They can play safely outside on the grass and then walk down to the river. We had a great stay and would recommend Jovali to anyone anytime and hope to go there again soon.

Fully equipped. Attention to detail is very good. Unit is clean, tidy and the tin of biscuits is delicious! The sherry was a bonus in the cold. Cozy and warm. Incredible view. And the walk down to the river does wonders for your mood. My boy had a great time playing with the dogs. We will definitely visit Jovali again.

A quiet, peaceful environment and a beautiful unit, well equipped with everything from basic necessities to nice and special extras (gas stove, electric oven, toaster, coffee percolator, muffin pan, Weber grill). Small details and hospitality (welcome sweets, sherry, cookies, milk, biscuits, sparkling wine on New Year's Eve) make one feel at home and comfortable. Crisp white bed linen and fluffy towels, a shower and a bath! Heaven in the countryside...

On arrival Ena was there to receive us. She is very friendly and helpful... she also recommends the walking route at Jovali which leads to the river where you can swim and have a picnic. We had a wonderful stay, the unit was incredibly beautiful, clean and tidy. The view from the front door is breathtakingly beautiful! It felt like we were in another world. We left Jovali rested. We have no complaints and would love to go again soon!!

The open-plan living area offers comfortable armchairs, a flat-screen television with DStv Premium bouquet, an intimate dining space and a fully-equipped kitchen with a gas stove, microwave oven and full-size fridge/freezer combo. The stylish en-suite bathroom is fitted with a separate bath and shower. A Weber braai with briquettes or charcoal is available to enjoy alfresco dining and make the most of those balmy summer evenings.
Enjoy a cup of freshly-brewed coffee and our delicious home-baked rusks while sitting on your patio and watching the sun rise over the Maluti mountains in the distance. You will see Mount Horeb to your left, and if you are lucky, you may even spot an antelope, or our resident Mongoose family, on the rolling grasslands in front of the property. For nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts there are well-maintained pathways that lead to the Little Caledon river that flows through the property, a mere 500 metres from our guest accommodation. At night you will experience a magical heaven of stars, while the silence, peace and tranquillity culminates in a stunning, stress-free environment where you will no doubt be inspired by the splendour of nature.
