Clean, safe place to sleep with friendly, helpful staff/owners. We immediately felt at home and were quickly helped with an awesome place to eat a stone's throw from where we are staying. Kalahari Lion's Rest is in a quiet neighborhood with the most beautiful view of fields where you can stand in front of your room door and watch the sun go down and the new day break in the morning.

The bathroom taps were completely loose. There had been soap but no shampoo.
Rooms are well equipped with all necessary. The wooden partitions (walls) can affect some visitors because you can hear what people next to you are talking about.
The place is advertised as B&B but is not. I wouldn't say it's really self-care either.
It is conveniently located in a quiet part of town with a beautiful view of the river. We will use the place again if the opportunity arises.

We slept great at Kalahari Lion's Rest during a quick visit to the Upington area. We didn't spend a lot of time at the place to sleep, but I can definitely confirm that we slept great there. The location is outside the main town and very quiet and peaceful. Do note that it is a wooden building and if your neighbors are up early, you are going to wake up. However, this did not bother us and we had a very nice stay there. We were received very kindly and had a safe parking area. Feel free to stay there.
We booked three rooms and all were quite satisfied, but one room did not have hot water for showering. We didn't report it because it was early in the morning and we were driving early. Everything was neat and clean and comfortable, but the walls are really thin and you can hear everyone talking and walking. If it wasn't for that, the place would have been really, really good. But many thanks for the friendly reception and the nice restaurant that was recommended. We had a nice rest and that's what we needed.
Kalahari Lion's Rest was very conveniently located in a suburban area - quite a distance from the center of town. It was very quiet and peaceful. The room and bathroom were comfortable and spacious. Note that it is a wooden house and that the wood does make noise and move when you walk on it - not for light sleepers, but we slept great. The coffee area was well equipped - I did miss a microwave but that wasn't a problem. We had a great time and slept peacefully. Our car was very securely parked behind the building and behind an electronic gate. The owner received us very kindly and kept us informed about the load shedding schedule.

The view is so beautiful of the Orange River. Very neat and reception was very friendly.
The unit is comfortable, the floors just move a lot so if anyone walks anywhere on the upper floor you feel it.
The accommodation is in a wooden structure and the rooms are facing each other. When someone walks on the wooden floor you feel the movement in your room. The soundproofing between the different rooms is also not good and you can hear what your neighbor is talking and doing.

We left early and got a delicious breakfast/snack pack for the road. Kalahari Lion's Rest is built of wood and it looks so beautiful. Unfortunately the walls are paper thin. You hear every step, whisper and breath of your neighbors, and it's not very nice!
Because the guest house is a wooden structure, it is less private for guests, because you can hear everything that goes on next to you and above you. If the doings of other guests don't bother you, this really is a lovely place to stay.

The hostess and host are very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely time with them. They provided us with a braai so we could make our own food and even set a table for us. The breakfast the next morning was prepared special for us because we had a long way to drive. Plus it was a delicious breakfast.

Place is relatively new (opened its doors in October 2016) so everything is beautiful and new. Quiet, peaceful area with stunning view. We weren't aware of any traffic. Rooms are very comfortable and tastefully appointed. Coffee, tea, and rusks provided, and 250 ml milk and 2 bottles of water in the fridge. Delicious breakfast served the next morning exactly at the time that suited us. I definitely recommend them.
