58 guests' feedbackHad a wonderful stay. Marli took a good look at us.
Lovely little house out in the veld!
Enjoyed our stay very much.
Mareli is the very best meerkat and animal mom. We learned so much from her, and created lifelong memories. Thank you very much for that, Mareli!
Even though the main house is old, it is well looked after and it feels like a home from home.
It was very restful and a pleasant stay.
Kalahari Trails exceeded our expectations in so many ways. Living with the meerkats was amazing. We loved the scorpion hunt and the specialist knowledge of the host. Highly recommend if you're keen to experience something totally unique if you love nature. The accommodation itself is basic, but with clean bedding. It's good value for money. Lots of bugs and moths, but that's all part of the experience. We will certainly be back one day. Thank you for a great stay.
Very nice stay. Quiet with a farm feel and close (30 km) to Kgalagadi Park.
The meerkat sanctuary is an experience. It had truly been food for the soul. The chalet is basic but has everything you need. We had a wonderful rest and visit.
Very nice and nice walk between dunes. Meerkats were an experience in nature. Just one problem. We paid for wood on departure. It cost R100 a bag then! Find it very expensive.
Our stay was breathtaking and highly relaxing, just the way one would like to experience and enjoy the tranquility and the stunning night skies the Kalahari has to offer. While enjoying our sundowner on the stoep, we watched springboks doing the same at the nearby waterhole. Also for day visits, the distance to and from the national park is within a manageable distance.
Very close to main road-wasn't so secluded then. The house needs attention inside. Gemsbok at the waterhole was beautiful.
As always, we were received hospitably, and we were able to meet little Paddington, the baby meerkat. This remains my favorite accommodation near Kgalagadi.
Brilliant location, a spectacular view from the dunes at sunset.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay. The meerkats were very cute.
The stars were amazing, the meerkats were cute. We were thankful for the mosquito nets over the beds!
Very safe and located. We had a great time. Mareli is really friendly and helpful. Meerkats terribly cute. Will definitely use again if we go to Kgalagadi.
The accommodation is very basic and appears untidy. The facility is in urgent need of renovation. Paint peels off, furniture groans and creaks, some faucets don't work properly. Will not stay there again. The power was off (not load shedding) when we arrived, with fridge doors open. We had to wait several hours for hot water and cold beer.
We arrived and the chalet was double booked - ? by lekkeslaap. A workers building being renovated was quickly takked together. Total unsatisfactory. The plus aspect that they paid for the remaining 2 nights stay at a lodge up the road.
I told Richard, there is something about this place, it is a presence that you can feel. Something extraordinary special. His answer. It is magic, sometimes I get a glimpse of it, my mother has found it. The secret of the Kalahari. . Will you find it? Maybe you need to go and see. Then the Meerkats, each one with its own personality, the interaction with them will stay with you forever. The guesthouse is a great opportunity to meet new friends. Beautiful campsites, some with its own ablution block. Then the tree camp for the more adventurous travellers. Next time I will take a big group to experience this life-changing environment. A must-see.
Kalahari Trails Nature Reserve and Meerkat Sanctuary was a good value budget stay under the roof and in proper beds after camping in KTF Park. The staff was welcoming and friendly, happy to chat about the background and tell us about the meerkats. The bonus was that Maryke was willing to brave the storm and fetch burgers for us from one of the other facilities in the area!
Nice location - very quiet at night. Braai every night is a must!
Outdoor experiences very interesting, informative and a lot of fun. We stayed at the chalet which is in a natural location (jackal, springbok, birds, tortoises).
It's a lovely quiet environment. My kids enjoyed the meerkats. The chalet is quite "rustic". The cutlery in particular was not of a good standard and in places there were cobwebs (which looked a bit old) in some of the corners.
Met all our requirements. A little uneasy for someone coming from the city and doors that don't lock. (Assuming the area is very safe). Could switch off nicely. No Vodacom signal. The other mobile network providers have signal. Lots of interesting things about the meerkat project. Staff are very hospitable and helpful.
Special thanks to Richard who on New Year's Eve gave us the chalet to spend the last night as a family and also ensured that we would have a peaceful night and not be disturbed by other rowdy guests. Very selfless, much appreciated by us.
The Chalet is basic, but with all the necessary amenities. We slept wonderfully, the silence is wonderful and the stars at 4 in the morning are breathtaking. It would be nice if e.g. the fridge is switched on before you arrive. The absolute low point was that there was not one meerkat to be seen. Apparently the colony moved to Botswana. So the photos on their website are misleading. You expect to be able to take beautiful photos, and then there aren't any. We feel they should warn you that this is not always the case.
Mareli took us on a walk up onto the red dunes to see the glorious sunset where she told us more about the Meerkat colony. We were also able to walk on our own through the veld and dunes, observing birds.
It is a very well equipped stone house where we spent the night. Three kilometers from the farmhouse with a lovely veranda where you can relax. Just a pity we didn't see one meerkat, they were in the field and the owner couldn't tell us when they will be back. They go to the field from time to time and stay there for a while.
We were kindly and cheerfully received by Marili and the few meerkats. She is a bubbling source of knowledge about the animals and their habits. It was a lovely experience.
Lovely stay. 33 km from Kgalagadi. Room was nice and the welcoming party by the meercats was wonderful.
Although the facilities could do with some renovation, they still offer good value for money and the interaction with the meerkats around the house is a very interesting experience. Learned a lot, slept well in the Kalahari air and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The location just south of the Kgalagadi National Park is great as we could drive through from Nossob and be at Kalahari Trails in the afternoon.
We stayed in the little house in the woods. Very nice and clean with a nice porch in front on which we could braai. Air conditioning in the room and living room made it nice and cool after a long day on the road. There is a water hole in front of the house and we saw several goats and ostriches there. It is also very close to the Kgalagadi entrance and we were at the gate very early the next morning. Will use them again.
No mobile phone access or WiFi at cottage.
It is easy to get there and you are warmly received.
Hosts were very friendly and very helpful. Beautiful view and sunset across the Kalahari. Nice lapa outside for a braai. Great for stargazing as there is no light pollution. It was nice to meet all the meerkats and Biltong the blue wildebeest.
The chalet is close to the road and the traffic on the way to the park is a bit disturbing.
Everything is clean and tidy. Have a nice stay and experience the tranquility of nature. Maybe make better provision for the cold winter nights.
Nice close to Kgalagadi. Very quiet, only a car now and then that you hear because it is close to the road. Wonderfully peaceful and stargazers will also enjoy the view.
Very very nice stay!
The meerkats and friendly Mareli welcomed us and provided us with fresh water. After a big barbecue fire in the private chalet we crawled into clean white linen. No luxury, but everything you might need. We were only about 35 km from Kgalagadi's entrance which allowed us to move through the gate early. After a day of driving around we were able to sleep over again and bought extra wood for another fire and cozy gathering on the stoep overlooking the water hole.
Our group of 12 SanParks Honorary Rangers: West Coast Region were able to meet and get together at Kalahari Trails in comfort before moving on into more remote regions of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park! This was a brilliant stopover for us. We had the farmhouse to ourselves which gave us the opportunity to sort out the logistics of the group. The location is excellent for a bush camp group going into the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (25 kms from the entrance) and proved to save valuable travelling time.
Neat accommodation on a nice quiet farm in the Kalahari.
I slept there for 2 nights. Fenced camping area and very neat. Every camping spot has a little roof. Braai facilities at every camping spot. The red dunes are right behind you. Was wonderful to just sleep over and experience the beautiful sunrise and sunset. It's safe. I feel like the area where you wash your dishes and the bathrooms need upgrading. Luckily we had warm water showers every night. The new manager, Henning, is very friendly and helpful and said that he'd work on things son. The meerkats are so cute. It's a good place to stay over on your way to the Kgalagadi.
Very friendly welcome. Very reasonable price for the private house. Quiet and peaceful and within a 30 minute drive from Kgalagadi. House is very private and tidy with everything you need.
Needs maintenance, especially on the plumbing side. Toilet that leaks, etc. Location is fantastic and there is plenty of game on the farm and a drinking hole in front of the cottage.
A bit run down. Seems they are trying to upgrade. Very convenient to stay over before visiting the Kgalagadi Park.
The water supply had failed that day, which meant no showers and trouble in the toilets, but little beyond supplying drinking water was done for us. The facilities were adequate and rustic but needed a bit of renovation and care. The "new" watch tower was unsafe but the meercats were really interesting and helped save day for our visit.
Staying on the premises enabled me to spend the last and first light of day to photograph the meerkats.
Friendly staff we received, helpful with everything. We were able to make braai meat in peace, all kitchen facilities were there. There were different excursion possibilities to further enjoy the bonus of the stay: the stick-tailed lake cats! Neat place to stay recommended in the heart of the Kalahari!
The farm is beautiful and it was a wonderful experience to do the walk on the dunes with Eben and Katrina. We learned to much! My husband and I walked on farm and we were not always sure where we were. Pity that there are no official trails as it is a beautiful farm and well planned trails could add to the value to this property. Eben and Katrina also took us for a night which was fun and very cold! Of course experiencing the meerkats is very special en fun.
Rubbish. A waste of time and money.
It's like a youth hostel, with a lot of noise because of architecture. Amenities basically. If you are young, maybe this is acceptable.
Very interesting experience to see the meerkats in their own space.
Nice overnight spot to hit the Kgalaghadi in the day. The Red Dune Route and the Meerkat Sanctuary is a must. So much potential, customer service is could be better and facilities are neglected. But we will be back. Beautiful area and very peaceful.
Towels and sheets clean and new, very nice hot water, staff friendly, that's the positive side. House outside, bathrooms, tiles, kitchenware, cutlery, beds, mattresses and braai facilities need al lot of maintenance, that's the negative side.
