80 guests' feedbackYes, we had a nice stay.
We arrived late at night. We were greeted by a lovely lady and a guard with a dog walking the property. Our room was excellent and well appointed.
There was no bottled water in the rooms. DSTV had limited channels.
The place to stay is 7 km outside the town and you can rest and get strength for the next day's journey.
The institution expected us. Was prepared and ready. Road noise has an influence due to the chalet's position.
Staff were very helpful and friendly but amenities were very rudimentary. The lodge is situated on the side of a busy highway and there were no signs of any security measures. Basically we felt "left to our own devices" during the night.
Room was not suitable for a family. Door to the bathroom did not work. No dining facilities in the room. Not self care. Bathroom was very dirty. We'd rather not take a shower.
At R1000 a night we got a motel room. The rooms are arranged like army barracks with not much privacy between the verandas. On arrival (3 o'clock) we were asked to reserve our dinner in the meantime, this was mistake 1. By dinner time (7 o'clock) that 120 g pork chop had been in a hot oven for hours. Served together were very nice chips and a pile of defrosted Country Veg, so lukewarm, the grated cheese flakes couldn't even melt. All this at R180,00 per person. Mistake 2 was not asking for the load shedding schedule. On arrival at the lodge the outside temperature was 39 C. Fortunately the little room has air conditioning and we were able to rest after 9 hours of driving from Port Nolloth. We would find out later that night that the air conditioning was not working during load shedding interruptions. It kicked in at 8 o'clock, the room turned into an oven within minutes. The solution was to open the bathroom window and the sliding door, no burglar alarm and all the mosquitoes in Vryburg. However, the worst was when we wanted to drive at 4 o'clock in the morning and load shedding prevailed again. We then found out that the place also has no water when the power is off. We left there, without coffee and will not go back again.
Nice place. Very well located, just a pity about the many trucks on the road. (Wasn't like that in earlier years). Wouldn't class it as self catering, just microwave and tea making facilities. Rooms not soundproof, TV next door and conversations clearly audible. (Think it's via the thatched ceilings).
The facilities were neat and clean and the staff were friendly.
Furthermore, we were warned against wrongdoers in Vryburg and were advised against entering the town. Unfortunately, the food at the lodge's restaurant was very expensive and we had to look for a cheaper option in town. Furthermore, there was no generator for load shedding and we were told that the generator had been stolen. The road is also very disturbing with traffic throughout the night.
No complaints, it was nice to spend the night there.
Room 1 only had a very thin duvet. The customer cannot inquire for extra blankets late at night. This should form part of the standard bedding for the room. Only 1 half roll of single ply toilet paper was in the bathroom. Room 3's shower was not clean.
Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay. Nicely furnished and the people are friendly and help where they can. It's nice and close to the road, for a quick climb back on the road. Will definitely stay there again.
The place is nice and quite, very clean and the lovely staff very welcoming. Please add some spa treatment, it would be great.
Kameelboom was the ideal place for us to sleep over on our journey from Springbok to Secunda in Mpumalanga.
The staff were helpful and friendly. Will recommend the lodge anytime.
Nice place. Basic, and just what I wanted. Thank goodness there were no continental pillows and other tidbits. Sommer nice feeling at home.
Green lawns, loop yard, beautiful trees, close to main road, lots of animals, ideal stop! Dinner served on our own porch!
Although we only stayed overnight, we had a great time visiting and eating.
It's a cute place with a lot of potential. Clean and tidy and the aircon made the place wonderfully warm, but the maintenance needs attention. We stayed in the family room, the sliding door was very difficult to open and close, no small fridge for milk or yogurt or soft drinks and the walls need a coat of paint. No microwave to heat up something quickly. New pillows and mattress would be an asset.
Security not as desired as there are no anti-theft devices in front of windows and doors. The lodge is located along the N14 and there is a risk that criminal elements can move in and out quickly. Our reception was not very friendly, although we were about one hour before the check-in time of 14H00 hours and this could have had an influence.
Restaurant service was extremely slow.
The rooms are small and have no windows except in the bathroom and toilet. Feeling very caged.
The surroundings are great and we were made to feel very welcome by the staff. However, there was a small function taking place who had their music blaring for a few hours, with no consideration for the people that were actually staying at the Lodge (they just visited for a few hours). The mattresses were not great and need replacement, as well as be firmer.
The bedding did not have a nice clean smell, the mattress has a hole in the middle or the mattress is old. It can be so beautiful, if the people just upgrade the place a bit, small change can make a very big difference.
Positive: room clean and tidy, gardens too. Negative: We understand gravity, but then you make a plan to provide water to guests. Furthermore, we could not get the staff to call to open the gate and we and other guests had to wait outside for attention. Day visitors played deafening music from both sides of the rooms until 7.30pm, extremely disturbing!. Too close to road, but that's not the staff's fault.
Rooms were clean and tidy. Privacy a problem. Hear everything that is being said in the next room.
Had a good night's sleep, place was clean and staff was friendly enough. However, the flimsy lock on the sliding door made me feel unsafe and I was provided with plastic spoons to use.
The rooms look like old horse stables. The bedding is old and worn. The bathroom door was broken and not replaced. The place has deteriorated greatly. Will not stay there again.
Adjacent bush pub "padstal" in walking distance from tooms has a great vibe in the evening, good food and fare - ideal if not planned self-catering.
The room is very neat and everything is clean. It is very peaceful and nicely laid out and you can relax. Would recommend it.
See stars.
Nice place to stay.
The chef makes the most delicious steak.
Small, but very safe and friendly staf.
No cutlery (not even a teaspoon) in room. Which is not a problem if you know about it in advance and summarize it yourself. Perhaps consider an information sheet in room that informs you regarding bar and restaurant - where they are and what hours they are open. Perhaps also mention on the booking page that there is no coffee/tea available in the room.
The windows do not have burglar bars. This forced us to turn on the air conditioning. There were also no tea bags and a teaspoon in the room.
Everything at the Kameelboomlodge was good and it's a very nice place, beautiful garden, trees and plants and there are very cute signs and interesting things in the gardens. Rooms are clean and well laid out. It is a self catering lodge although there was a kettle, mugs, microwave and fridge in the rooms, I would have expected there to be basic things like two plates, knife and forks as well but there weren't and we had to scrounge for paper plates etc. to go purchase. The only negative comment I would like to make is when a large group checked in on Friday morning, they were loud and basically took over the gardens and started playing rock hard music and basically had no respect or awe for any of the other visitors. When I called the office to complain about it, I was told that the group had a 'celebratory function' and therefore it was allowed for them to make so much noise. When I mentioned that it disturbed our rest and was not part of the package, I was told 'she will give my money back if I am not satisfied' ie me who was booked for 3 nights and had already been there since Thursday , had to find another place to stay if I didn't want to listen to the noise. We spent the rest of the day in another place and the next day the group was still there but it appeared that they had been addressed.
Hospitality. Clean, peaceful environment. Discussed problem with owner and they immediately worked on it.
When I got there, lady writes out receipt, even though I give her my name. She was not even aware that I paid through the website. The beds are in a terrible state, the faucets of the shower kept dripping. The floor by the fridge was dirty, looked like spilled milk. The garden and the animals in and around the lodge, beautifully maintained. I can't say that about the rooms. The curtains have ugly stains and look like they have been washed a long time ago.
The concept and location are ideal for overnight stays, but basic maintenance and cleanliness leave much to be desired. Guests must also be made aware of this; either during booking or with a note in the room that noise, music and television are only allowed until a certain time, e.g. 21:00 hours.
The place to stay is not at all what we expected. At least the bedroom is clean and tidy, even if it looks like a tin shack, but that's all. There is a small microwave oven, and a very old rusty oven with 2 plates (too scared to use the thing), and a water kettle. Furthermore, no self-catering equipment to cook with, so you have to eat at the restaurant. The restaurant's food is not bad, just terribly expensive for what you get. Would not recommend the place to anyone at all.
Room extremely small and not at all as in the photo presentation. We were moved from our original room because they put other people in there. Not very clean, and cramped. Marketed as self catering but not well equipped. Restaurant and bar were not open and owners were holding their own function at the restaurant the night we were there.
The room had almost no kitchenware. Just 3 plates, cups, glasses, knives and forks. No spoons or bowls. The sheets are torn or slept through. The restaurant is not open on weekends.
The reception was friendly and the place was beautiful. Will stay there again.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Calm atmosphere. Dinner was not 100%, but still edible.
Everything very good except noise from vehicles on main road during the night
Just slept and drove on.
Clean and tidy, friendly service.
The low point of our visit was the condition of the bathroom. It certainly needs a decent cleaning. The bathroom trash was not cleaned, the shower mat was dirty, and there was a sanitary sticker left behind in the shower.
It is along a busy road and the food is expensive. Bed needs a new mattress and I suggest that the thatched roofs should be repaired to match the beautiful garden.
The driver is very pleasant, but the experience is not so good that I can recommend Camel Tree. Breakfast is extra and not worth the cost.
They do not reply to emails. The braai facilities are far from the room and should be shared with other people. You can't braai in your own privacy at all. There are no knives, fork plates or teaspoons and we chose a self-catering unit so that we can manage on our. There is only a microwave that is not indicated on the site so we couldn't make our own food at all. They were not even aware that we had paid through the site.
Bedding dirty and musty smelling, room dirty and musty smelling, glasses and cutlery dirty and sticky. Closets dirty. The whole bloody place is awful. I cannot understand that the place is recommended on the website.
Very comfortable, tidy accommodation with friendly staff. Thank you for the breakfast packs provided.
Accommodation was top, friendly staff and site is in great condition. Will definitely go there again.
The lodge is conveniently situated on the main road. Perfect stop-over for our trip to the Kgalagadi Park.
Our accommodation was very pleasant and quiet. I would like to highlight the following 3 points. The lady who worked at the bar was not very friendly and was more worries about sitting her boyfriend outside than to serve us. The rooms have kettles and coffee cups, but no coffee or tea. The towels in our room were both old and a bit faded. On the positive side. The rooms are very neat, the gardens are beautiful and the food was fantastic. We will definitely stop here again.
The package offers good value and the garden is large and well maintained. The rooms are acceptable but need a finer hand to improve the detail and customer sensitivity. It will require infrastructure upgrades sometime in the next 24 months.
Rooms are not soundproof at all, the guests in the room next to our TV could be clearly heard. Was very disturbing. The air-con did not work (was very hot). The shower also dripped. DStv is listed on the website but they have Openview (false advertising). Also no coffee bags etc. not in the rooms. Reception was poor, both on arrival and departure there was no one in reception. Very poor compared to other places we stayed in the same price range. No, I'll pass next time.
No towels or cutlery in chalet. Had to go and ask for it and bring it to the chalet. Beds have already been worn out.
Grumpy, untrained staff. Rooms are old and shabby. Staff party late into the night so guests can't sleep.
We really enjoyed our stay. Als was very neat.
Beautiful place! Service and breakfast was excellent!
Quiet visit and well eaten.
Everything went great, and we enjoyed our stay so much. I paid in full when I booked, and was surprised when Kameelboom had no record of that. The bathroom ans toilet is not cordoned of from the beds, and that is a bit of a problem - even if it is only you and your loved one travelling, not to mention travelling with family or your parents. A wall or slightly higher wall will do the trick.
After a day's journey (9 hours) we heard on our arrival there that there is an engagement party that evening and we have to excuse ourselves if the people make too much noise. A noise indeed it was. The music was deafening. I believe the people in Vryburg would be able to hear it (7 kilometers away). After twelve we called the management and asked until when the commotion would continue. He just said he had informed us that the people could be noisy and that they had priority because they booked almost the entire Lodge. We packed up at midnight and drove on.
I did not enjoy it at the lodge at all.
The accommodation is sufficient for a normal overnight stay. Rooms are spacious with air conditioning. Swimming pool to cool off, along with a spacious garden to relax in. Unfortunately, the restaurant only offers steak with chips and salad as a choice of what to eat. Bar facility offers ample choice. However, be very careful when it comes to payment, because they have no administration when it comes to this, and have been charged incorrect amounts on more than one occasion.
Couldn't sleep there the second night because neighbors who watch football and talk loudly. No one offered to refund my money or apologize. There was a kettle in the room but no coffee or sugar. Bathroom is advertised as private but it is not at all. Quite a disappointment.
I would highly recommend it, it was very nice and the place is tidy and the staff very friendly.
