Everything was excellent. The booking, communication, cleanliness, directions, location and facilities were great. If you want to get away from the busy and hectic life and want to relax peacefully in silence, Kampala is a good option.
Kampala is very neat, peaceful and has the most beautiful view of the mountain.

The self-catering unit has everything we needed. The porch and outdoor barbecue with the view over the farm was a big plus.
What a beautiful farm in such a beautiful area with beautiful hiking trails and lookout points. It is just such a pity about the state of the accommodation and the disinterest of the management. We paid R2300 for the unit (Sahara) for 2 nights. Before we arrived, I was sent an SMS from the manager to tell me to see info for the farm. No directions were sent and my reply to the number asking where to find the directions was unanswered. Thank goodness we could use Google maps and arrived there safely. When we arrived at the gate of the farm, I phoned the the number that was given with the booking and which I received an SMS from. The lady (Elmarie) gave us the code to the gate and said we could go straight to the unit and did not need to report to reception. On arriving at our unit, we were amazed at how beautiful and secluded it was. This quickly changed as we entered the unit. It was immediately evident that the unit had not been cleaned properly since the previous guests were there. The bathroom bin had used plasters and a used disposable razor in. There was also toothpaste splatters on the counter and in the basin from the previous guests. The bin and the sink in the kitchen was also dirty. The water in the shower constantly went from scalding hot to ice cold and this made it very difficult to shower with our toddler daughter. The bathroom also had the most horrific sewage smell for our entire stay. When we entered the bedrooms, it was clear that the bedding had not been cleaned recently as there was gecko poo on it. We did enjoy the beautiful big geckos on the ceilings but it was evident that the bedding hadn't been changed before we arrived. The website also mentioned a beautiful stoep and outside braai. The stoep is beautiful but the braai is old, rusted and had holes in. Seeing that the bases of the beds, the inside braai and the seating area outside are all made from stones, I don't understand why the outside braai area was not built like that? Being an avid animal, insect and nature lover, it was quite disheartening to find Doom and Raid in every room in the house. I don't understand why any owner or management would want to advocate spraying this poison especially with birds and reptiles around. As we had no communication from the management, I sent Elmari an SMS the day before we had to leave to ask if there is a specific time we need to check out and what we need to do with the keys of the unit. I never received a reply and we decided that we were a bit over the stay and left at 10AM the morning. We would have loved to have met the managers and to find out what other things there were to do in the area but we felt as if the management could not care less about us. Up until now, I still haven't received a reply from Elmarie and I find it quite shocking and rude. Unfortunately we will not be returning to this beautiful farm and will also not be recommending it to anyone.

The silence of the evening rings in your ears. If you want to relax and not be disturbed by your neighbors, Kampala is the place. Beautiful accommodation and well equipped. Lovely surroundings of Bonnievale and Robertson for mountain biking. Kampala's roads also present a bit of a challenge for the cyclist. Thank you Chris and Elmarie for your hospitality.
Was just what we needed!
We had to wait a whole day for fridge to get cold, no microwave, it will be easier to heat up food. Outdoor toilet and shower facilities do not operate during cold weather. Terrible smell in bathrooms.

I got an email from Kampala with the road map. Their directions are incredibly accurate. Even me who is directionless could get it easily. The houses without electricity made me long for my grandmother's house. There is everything you need. It's clean and very neat. If you need the owner, she will be in touch with you immediately. 10/10 for service and accommodation.
I will recommend Kampala once for an amazing getaway! Can not wait to go back. In summer it might just get a bit hot, a small splash pool would be awesome here. Thank you very much for the ice, it saved our lives.

A small section of dirt road to get to the house, but absolutely worth it. The house was beautifully clean, everything you need is there (bedding, towels, etc.). Had a great time by the coal stove and fire outside, will definitely go back.

Kampala farm pleasantly surprised us. Fantastic accommodation and facilities at affordable rates, the most beautiful views, delicious campfires and just good rest. We rested so well that we didn't even explore the area. So we'll have to go explore again.

We spent a lovely weekend at Kampala in the most beautiful house Santa Maria. The view over the valley and mountains is breathtaking. The silence and nature sounds are absolute soul food. The sky in the evening is so clear that it felt like we could touch the stars. It is a farm where one immediately felt safe and at home. The unit is definitely one of the best equipped self-catering places we have ever stayed, from potjie food pots, stirfry plate for the fire to an electric snackwich machine, everything to make a visit so convenient and comfortable. Whether you are 2 or 8, here you can have a good time and sleep well. My big treat was the two donkey children, Aflos and Abraham, so if anyone reads this and decides to visit - pack them apples and carrots for a treat and don't forget the 3 tame goats. Adri and Schalk are turning Kampala into a very special place and we will definitely be going back and keeping up to date with the shows they put on there.
Very neat and well equipped. Adri and her team made an effort to make our stay at Santa Maria as pleasant as possible. Kampala is ideal for a tranquil breakaway from the rush of everyday life.
