Gerda is a great hostess and even followed up to make sure we got home safely. The place is clean and tidy and just what a traveler asks for after a long day on the road.
I definitely recommend the stay. Nice big and spacious and very neat.
The rooms are spacious with two single beds each. The kitchenette has basic facilities and there is also a gas hob and paraffin lamps for load shedding. The bathroom is neat with a small shower, sink and toilet. Parking is secure behind a fence and locked. The town is beautiful, but the road there is very bad with many potholes. This will prevent me from visiting again.
There needs some maintenance to done. The shower head sprays water in all directions and the shower leaks water into the bathroom. The air-conditioner does not work.
Very kindly received by Gerda. Our accommodation was clean, tidy, comfortable and well equipped. Secure parking behind locked gate. Interesting village. Great sleep too.

The accommodation is good enough for a stop over. There are good restaurants in close vicinity. However, according to the host, you need to book a day in advance. Pit Stop, a quick walk away, was value for money and recommended; no need to book.

The host was super-friendly and helpful. Clean bathroom and kitchen, comfy and clean beds. Curtains were dusty and cups needed rewashing before use. My granddaughter enjoyed the grassed area for cartwheeling! A little more attention to detail, possibly, for example, there was a broken plastic chair at the front which should be removed.
We were disappointed in the town as the places were closed.
For overnight stays it is very suitable, one has to make an effort to go to Phillipolis as it is not on a main route. The "Pitstop"'s food was very tasty.

The little cottage needed a good clean. The bathroom and kitchen especially. No milk was provided for a morning coffee. That said, the bed was comfortable and we all slept well. The car was locked behind a gate, but we were quite nervous. The host was in touch and very good with her communication.

Customer service was excellent. We were recommended to book to be able to eat at Ouma Anna restaurant which was excellent and I'm glad we did. I was traveling with my elderly mother and separate rooms were important and Kanon Gastehuis met our need perfectly.

Everyone very friendly and helpful. Slept well! The town is really quiet and peaceful. The right place for an overnight stay if you are traveling to Mossel Bay or similar or from the coast to Johannesburg/PTA. Kanon Guest House was really peaceful, clean and good value for money. We had 3 young people with our 3 older guards and they were very impressed with the experience.

We stayed in the double room. Very spacious and extremely suitable not only for overnight stays, but even for longer periods. Amenities are excellent and the residence is very well located in Philippolus. Gerda always made us feel very welcome before and upon our arrival.

The place needs maintenance, eg black algae taking over in bathroom. In contrast, the bedding etc. is all clean and in good condition.
Kanon Guest House is excellently located. It was very cold, but with a warm blanket the world is right. Go eat at the hotel, Ian Stark and his wife's food is tasty. And visit the Transgariep Museum.

We stayed Christmas Eve and our hostess, Gerda, made an effort to let us know the night before that there would be no fuel available in the town that day. She also recommended a restaurant, should we be interested in a Christmas meal, and forwarded the menu and contact details. We have already recommended her guest house to several friends and will stay there again next time.

Had a nice overnight stay in Kanon. Access roads to and from Philippolis still reasonable.

We have preferred to spend the night at Philippolis for years. The road from Colesberg to Trompsburg is now in good condition and the trucks on the N1 are being spared. Kanon Guesthouse's well priced and comfortable. The other guest house we used to use became very expensive. Feel free to allow enough time to visit the museums.
Our stay was the perfect definition of hospitality. The place to stay was perfect, everything needed and more (that delicious kitchen table!) was there, but on top of that was the hospitality that welcomed us even before our arrival. For example inquiry and accompanying suggestions of what/where we could go to eat, timely direction indicators, etc. And for a short time one really felt that the rush could be shaken off. Among other things, the lovely peaceful road to and from Philippolis with no fight with big lorries. Highly recommend.

Slightly out of the way between Gauteng and Cape Town, good value for money, place can be up-geared to a next level, but not with the rates they charge. They have a nice braai lapa/facility. So, get charcoal on the way, and some meat. Gerda (I believe the owner) is very accommodating. This is an old family house, so be prepared for old family pictures on the walls. Clean and safe.

We were moved around a few times before we slept over. We originally booked a family room but were then moved 2 more times to other rooms. However, the price remained the same and we had our own bathrooms. Unfortunately for us there was an electricity problem in Philippolis and we could not contact Gerda by phone. So we had to drive around a bit to find the entrance to the guest house. Due to the electricity problem, none of the phone numbers on the gates worked and I couldn't contact her via mobile either. We were also not aware that we had to share a kitchen with other people. This is not mentioned on the ad. Luckily there was a restaurant where we could get something to eat. The house needs some fixing and painting and may need to be opened up a bit, so that fresh air can dispel the stuffiness in the house. We paid for a room with electricity but then did not get it. Otherwise, Philippolis is a beautiful Karo village and Gerda was very friendly.

Could actually stay an extra day just for the tranquility of it and to explore the surroundings.
The self-catering unit we stayed in was spacious, warm and homely, convenient with everything we needed to be comfortable. Kanon is very central, only a few minutes from all the attractions, restaurants, bookstores. Friendly and warm welcoming and Gerda made me feel at home and felt like family. While I had my privacy, she was always there when I needed help.
We enjoyed our stay, thanks to Gerda for all her help and friendliness. We will visit a again.
Very hospitable and friendly, nice stopover between PTA and Kaap.
The standard is good. There were only two problems: The fridge door didn't close properly, resulting in excessive ice in the freezer compartment. It has a big influence on the functioning of the refrigerator. The bed creaking noises - you just think of turning around and its already creaking. We just stayed overnight but were pleasantly surprised with Philippolis. Will have to go again for a more comprehensive stand.

We arrived at Kanon at 07:30. Gerda the hostess received us and explained all the eateries to us. Our rooms and bedding were beautiful and everything was absolutely neat. For the price the place was adequate. We were very well and friendly received by Gerda Carsten, the manager. Everything we needed was in the room. I could park my car safely on the premises behind closed gates.

Accommodation was nice and central. We could explore Philippolis on foot and went for dinner at Oom Japie se Huis. They made it possible for us to bring our cats.
Only negative: The bed was not comfortable at all.
The room looks like a store room that a couple of old beds and some old furniture was put inside. There is no proper decorations. Noise from branches scratching on the roof in the wind as well as uncomfortable bed - assisted to cause loss of sleep. The shower door is broken and a curtain was placed in it place. The shower water temperature was hard to regulate, either too hot or too cold.

With 3 children it isn't always easy finding cheaper accommodation for an overnight place. Kanon Guest House made special changes so that our family could stay over comfortably at a reasonable rate. They also make bookings for restaurants in town if needed. The place is well equipped with a fridge, microwave and all the basic cutlery for 4 people.

Nice place to sleep over in a picturesque town. Got great service from Gerda. Even before we were on our way, we were asked if we might need a mattress for our baby, or if a reservation should be made for dinner. There was even a baby bath provided to bathe our baby. We are very impressed and will definitely stay there again!
