Had wonderful peace of mind for a few days. The lapa was an experience with wonderful clean vistas of Karoo life and lovely braai facilities for visiting with close friends.
What an incredible spot. We spent the long weekend here in this untouched gem of a place. Dirk was incredibly helpful - there was more than enough water and firewood available, and the canvas pull-down walls were incredibly helpful with the wind that picked up on one of the days. Dirk even helped arrange a tour through the ostrich breeding plot next door which was great fun. You can tell that a lot of effort has been put into making this spot a great place to spend time in! Plus, there are giraffes roaming about, which was incredible to see. The fact that you have this super remote, off grid campsite/lapa all to yourselves is truly special - we will definitely be back if its not always booked out!
What a wonderful break-away. The ablutions and hide were perfectly clean, and abundant wood and fresh drinking water were supplied. The deck is perfectly situated to take advantage of the views and magnificent sunsets, and the roll-down panels were an unexpected bonus to keep the breeze or sunshine out. The quiet, and distantly roaming wildlife, made for an exceptional experience. Thank you, Dirk, for making us feel so welcome and sharing your little piece of paradise.
As a seasoned camper I have yet to stay at a place in the Karoo or the coast that offers so much for so little. The owners and operators Dirk and Japie, Japie is very friendly, very approachable, communicative and very helpful, really good people. The site is a large lifted covered deck of very generous proportions you could pitch several large tents there. There is a proper large fire range, washing up station, running water, flushing toilets and warm showers underneath the deck plus also underneath is a little out of the ground plastic tank for splashing around in. The view's are spectacular and the extend to the Swartberge far in the distance since it is in a game reserve there is giraffe and other game around to look at and at night it's location gives you a first row seat to a unpolluted night sky plastered with stars and galaxies. This is so far I know the only site in the reserve so you have all this to yourselves. Great for kids, great for adults.
Upon your arrival, the natural beauty takes your breath away. The animals around you make the heat worth it. We carried our cameras everywhere and took the most beautiful pictures possible. There are zebras, giraffes, impalas, moose and springboks. I would heartily recommend it to any nature lover. Just take plenty of water and comfortable walking shoes with you!
Kareebos is a hidden diamond that offers the perfect escape from civilization with stunning views of the Black Mountains, hectares of pristine Karoo landscape and regular wildlife sightings (Kudu, Eland, Zebra, Giraffe, Gemsbok to name a few) from your 'kitchen' and 'porch'. Kareebos allows you to go back to using basic appliances and you are exposed to the elements of nature in a safe environment, but it offers just enough amenities for an amazing experience for the whole family. I would recommend a visit to any nature lovers and you will be amazed. With the good service from the Kareebos team, I will undoubtedly come back for another visit. A vehicle with high ground clearance is recommended for the trip to the lapa (eg Softroader), but 4x4 is a must to explore the majority of the farm.
The lapa is very well located with the most beautiful view with sunset over heads covered with bacon forest and the Swartberge in the background. We saw some great wildlife - moose and giraffes made an appearance at the watering hole every night. Definitely don't leave your binoculars at home.
