The reception was friendly and in Afrikaans. The restaurant was clean and tidy and the food is value for money.
The reception ladies were very polite and helpful and made us feel at home and welcome. Room was very spacious, neat and tidy and clean. Value for money.

Stay was good, however security can really be upgraded at the restaurant area, especially with people walking in and out on a Saturday evening. Some very unsavoury characters, who were obviously not there for a meal.
Beds were comfortable. The room did smell like smoke.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Karoo Country Inn Hotel. I was hesitant to book here due to the past reviews, but trust me when I say some are overdramatic. We stayed in the Suite and it was spotless when we arrived and smelled so nice! The room is very large and it has a lovely living room and large bathroom and access to a very private spot on the balcony. Positives: Clean, large, dustless room (we checked the headboards, no dust whatsoever). Staff made sure we came home to a clean room, fresh towels and restocked coffee cabinet every day. Bed was very comfortable and the linens were spotless, crisp white and high quality. Staff is very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Safe parking inside. Negatives: The restaurant is overly expensive for a small town such as Middelburg. The shower was unusable due to its poor water pressure so could only take baths. We didn't have hot water for one night but the rest of the nights were completely fine. No telephone in the room so no room service was available. Some maintenance is required. A few of the lamps didn't have bulbs and the mirror had water stains on it, no hot/cold indicators on the taps. Small things like that. No generators, but there was a loadshedding light in the room which helped a lot. The hotel is meant to be old school and it only has old furniture in it, but it's beautiful and nostalgic that way. It's not fair to expect something that is 172 years old to be modern. Overall we had a lovely experience and will book again in the future!
This is not a luxury establishment: it is an old building, heavy on old-world charm and light on modern fixtures and amenities. But: it's perfectly located if you're traveling between Gauteng and the Garden Route, it's very affordable, staff are extremely friendly and helpful, there's a lovely restaurant and bar on the premises and a cool and sparkling pool, and air conditioning (important for any stay in the Karoo). The place works hard at giving you a good experience, everything is clean, and it's safe and quiet. Recommended overnight possibility.

At first there was no one at reception. After that no one knew about my booking. There was load shedding and no flashlights were provided. I had to go looking for my room in the dark corridor.
Was satisfactory visit. Interesting.
There was also no water in toilets and so bathrooms were not scrupulously clean, certainly not a staff fault but a city council fault. No power, no water. Restaurant and service were very friendly and food was delicious at Christmas dinner!
The Karoo Country Inn is old, has historic significance and must be renovated and preserved. The staff is great, the WiFi, electricity worked well despite loadshedding. What is terrible is that the rooms are dirty. Dust and grime everywhere. This place needs to be cleaned, especially the rooms and maintenance overall.
No milk or creamer for coffee. Old, hard and worn towels. Old linen and bedding. Not enough staff in restaurant. Receptionist not on her post. Difficulty getting into parking area by car at night.
The place is a mess. Waste of money. Drive to the next location. Restaurant is dirty and has almost nothing to eat, dust everywhere, glasses are dirty, place is not maintained, aircon does not work as it should. For the money you pay and what you get, the place should not even get 1 star, poor.

Very nice stay. The bar's service is very slow. The lady ran around terribly between the kitchen and the bar, it is suggested that more staff be appointed to assist her.
Very happy with reception, shower did not have water and also toilet leaked more than goes in. There was air conditioner in room but not very effective.
Staff are friendly and speak Afrikaans. Room and bedding were nice and clean, just a pity no shower, only a bath. WiFi was unfortunately often sporadically on and off. By 21h00 it was no longer available. The television is still the box type and some of the channels from DStv were not available, and we have no interest in OpenView's channels. Parking at busy times seems to be a bit of a problem as people have to pull their cars into obscure places for everyone to get into the premises which is safe. Just a pity they call a guest at half past ten when you are finished in your bed to possibly move your car! However, I did not entertain them. Breakfast is only served from 7am, so it is not suitable for travelers who want to set off early. Dinner was a bit expensive and my steak was served on a cold 'rock plate' with some onion rings and a small bowl of rice, no vegetables. My wife's oil-soaked calamari arrived long after I had finished eating.
We checked in easily, and the restuarant was very pleasant with very good food ordered from the menu. Breakfast was a little disappointing, but was adequate. Will definitely stay there again.

Too few staff on duty. 1 lady had to handle everything. Check-in, waitress, bartender, kitchen etc. For a family of 4 there were only 2 towels. Bath mats that slouch. Next morning was load shedding and I assume that's why we struggled with water to shower. No extra effort.
Microwave was a bit dirty and all the cutlery was not available. We didn't use it, but it wasn't fully available. Other than that, no problem.
Both bathroom and room were not thoroughly cleaned. Ceiling fan was dirty, two-plate stove was dirty, bathroom faucets, soap dish dirty. No toilet paper. Will definitely never stay there again.

I actually have a lot of nostalgia for Middelburg. As little boys, we spent our holidays visiting my Grandpa and Grandma Hansen there. They are both buried there, we took the opportunity to simply visit their grave. We went looking for their house, in 40 years many things change! Middelburg had been cousins time. The Karoo Country in is neat, clean, antique furniture, the dinner was delicious, the waitresses friendly and brilliant. Extremely secure parking. Lovely late afternoon, evening and next morning spent there!

Power was down due to challenge with power station at Gariep Dam. No generator. We had to make do with candlelight from the dining room to the room. Bathroom needs attention. Showers lack attention. Menu was also limited because they could only prepare certain things with gas.
Just enough to sleep over.
Dustbin in bathroom still had previous occupant's rubbish inside.
The hotel is nice, but inside it's a bit shabby. Cold water wouldn't work and the toilet was broken. Unfortunately will not stay here again.
Unfortunately, the town had a power outage. Als was shrouded in darkness. Had to get by with 1 candle, phones were dead too so couldn't use phone flash. There was no water either. I understand it's not the hotel's fault, but maybe they can take better precautions for such situations. It's hard to make a poll if you couldn't see anything and couldn't use anything.
Friendly service, neat rooms and safe parking at a good price.

Very nice old building with warm character even though it is old. Bathrooms are currently being renovated, but there was no inconvenience. Staff were friendly and the restaurant, Keg, very cozy with good food. The price is very reasonable and all the necessary amenities were available.
Apart from the bathroom door that wouldn't close, the room was neat and clean.

1. Aircon het nie gewerk nie. Oop vensters is oukei, maar daar's baie lawaai op 'n Saterdagaand. 2. Kegg-kroeg het ook geen aircon nie. 3. Griekse slaai sonder swart olywe? 4. Pork ribs het koud gearriveer. 5. Agterste ingang is verby toilette waar daar 'n voortdurende stank is.
It is an old, worn out hotel with creaking floors. The rooms are spacious. There are notices indicating that the hotel will be renovated. The place has potential.
The rooms are old and carpets are dirty. The bathrooms ( we had 2 rooms) need a good scrub down. The restaurant was average but overpriced. Because the hotel is at an intersection it’s very noisy.
Hotel has potential if cleaned intensively! And if decent/edible food is served, parking is only a problem, space is very small at the back. Beggars, especially children right in front of hotel very annoying!
We stayed in the hotel's self-catering units - beautiful, spacious restored house close to the hotel. In the evening we had a delicious meal in the Keg & Springbuck and the next morning breakfast in the hotel. Service was excellent and the food very tasty! I would visit the Karoo Country Inn again and highly recommend it to anyone heading to the coast!
We stayed overnight. Staff very friendly and thumbs up for Ruan on reception, who went out of his way to help with information we needed. Had lovely dinner at KEG, all very friendly.
