149 guests' feedbackMy 2 sons spent the night there on their way home from Potch. They were very impressed with the hostess and the room in which they stayed. Will definitely stay there again.
Very nice place with the dearest old aunt who immediately makes you feel welcome.
The host was a lovely lady, very welcoming. The place was very neat and clean. Spent a very comfortable night.
Anna is a helpful and friendly hostess.
Friendly service in real old fashioned style!
It was very nice. Simply good for one's soul.
Excellent service, neat and safe.
Very pleasant! The hostess went out of her way to ensure that we were comfortable.
We had a nice stay, slept warm because it was a cold night. Only stayed there one night. Friendly people make you feel right at home.
Yes, just a pity there is no WiFi and no hot water for the shower.
Have a nice rest after a long road.
Nice stay, Tannie is very friendly and helpful.
No hot water on first night. Place looked stuffy when we got there. No Wi-Fi. Bathroom was a bit dirty.
No warm water during the stay. No bathing. No geyser.
The place needs urgent maintenance. No TV channels available, although this is indicated on the advertisement. When the toilet is flushed, you are overwhelmed with the smell of sewage.
We were not informed about the absence of breakfast, mosquitoes, no TV, and no microwave. The room dates back to the 19th century. The bath was not cleaned, and there was an electric blanket and a winter duvet, etc.
Relax after a long drive in the car. Quiet and safe. Nice about the place with everything neat and clean. Slept very well. Very still. Very friendly aunt/owner. Will stay again.
We were welcomed with a lovely pot of tea, although it was strained. The bed was warm and contributed to a good night's rest.
Anna is a superb host, friendly and kind. The place was spotless and good value for money.
Ideal for the "trip down memory lane", furniture lovingly looked after, but room modern and sufficiently equipped.
Very nice stay, the service was excellent.
Very nice stay. There was load shedding only from 10 pm and then the mosquitoes carried me away.
Yes, very nice stay.
The host was so welcoming and lovely. It was a quick stopover on the route and we slept well.
Thoroughly enjoyed Anna and Zorro. Slept wonderfully warm.
We were welcomed upon our arrival. We immediately felt at home. Nothing was too much trouble. We quickly made friends and also had a nice barbecue. Zorro, the Sheepdog, is very intelligent and seems to understand when you speak.
Apart from the mosquitoes which gave us no rest, there was no insect spray available in the room. There was no coffee, tea or sugar on the tray by the kettle. Although aunt Anna was very friendly, we will not visit Karoo Koelte again. I also think she should be more careful with guests she lets sleep in her house. Her room door wasn't even closed, it's very dangerous.
The room was very hot and stuffy, no mosquito repellent, no matches for the candles. The tub is tiny, not properly secured, and weathered. The bed's mattress needs to be replaced. Overall the room did not appear clean. Dogs run around the house and are a nuisance.
Very friendly reception and very neat and clean.
Tannie Anna makes you feel right at home and really goes out of her way to make everything as comfortable as possible. We had so much fun with her that evening. She even made us coffee during loadshedding.
A little place that takes you back to your childhood.
It would have been nice to have hot water. We made a reservation at 16:00 and by 19:00 when we got there there was no hot water. The power didn't go off until 18:00 and I believe if the geyser had been turned on in time we would have been able to bathe.
What a lovely experience. Tannie Anna is a wonderful hostess who does everything in her power to make the stay pleasant. Will definitely make a visit there again.
Karoo Koelte exceeded all our expectations. Aunt Anna is an absolute gem! She spoiled us so much, and made the most delicious dinner! If you just wanted to sleep, it is also very comfortable and clean.
The owner told us about entertaining places.
Aunt Anna is a piece of gold that I wish I could take with me on my journey. Got the warmest reception. Great conversation and a nice visit in the evening over a cup of coffee in her living room. The room was silver clean and painfully neat. I can't wait to drive in that direction again, because I will definitely be staying with Auntie Anna again. We spent the night in the veranda room and everything was exactly as in the picture. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the silence of the surroundings. I would recommend Karoo Koelte with confidence.
Very friendly, willing to go out of their way to help you. Really feels like Grandma on the Farm.
A pleasant aunt received us and she is exceptional.
Will definitely stay there again.
Anna was so hospitable and friendly. She just wanted to make us feel calm and welcome after a long day! Many thanks to her!
Karoo Koelte gives value for money. We slept in a "stoepkamer" with a beautiful en suite where the shower floor is made with rough rocks and pebbles. The furniture and oregon flooring lend character to this old Karoo house and the outside covered stoep is inviting with its comfortable chairs. The owner gave us access to an outside power point for our camping fridge at no extra cost. Her recommendation to a great restaurant can also be commended. Would I stay there again? Without a doubt.
.
It's a shame that our rest was disturbed by a guest's car alarm that went off five times during the night. The room (part of the farmhouse) was neat and nicely equipped. The floorboards are creaking a bit - it's an old place.
Anna made a lot of effort with us and dinner was like my mother made it. Breakfast is good and we were lucky to be able to eat nice farm sausage. Delicious. It really felt like we were visiting Grandma. Although I booked meals for 4, Anna was kind enough to let us only pay for 3 because my child is a picky eater and didn't eat much. I don't think your typical city person would like Karoo Koelte. It is more for the person who can appreciate antique and old furniture and that small detail. The table is e.g. carefully covered with doilies for everyone's glass and all those forgotten good old days. We had a kitten with us and thanks to Anna that we could bring her along. The dogs, Rex and Mula, soon made us feel at home because we are also animal lovers. There are small things that may need attention, such as e.g. a light outside by the cars and the bath's tiles just need to be fixed again etc. However, this did not detract from our experience.
Small place, but comfortable. Friendly service.
We really enjoyed the contents of the room, as well as the house full of old furniture. The site is reminiscent of the previous generation and the room has created a consequent "living in" in the past. The detail speaks of an era long lost.
This stay was value for money. Insect repellent in the rooms would be a good idea as the mosquitoes were really, really bad.
I was allocated an outside apartment which was adequate in some ways and reasonably clean, but the place lacked proper amenities for self-catering (no sink, no oven or work surface) and it smelt as it if had been closed up for weeks. Even though I'd messaged ahead as to when I'd be there, the geyser was not on and the place had not been aired when I arrived. When the power went out due to a storm later, I couldn't get hold of my host on her cell to ask what was going on and if there were candles anywhere. The TV did not work, the single beds were ancient, creaky spring varieties and sum up this below-par stay for me. It's tired and worn out.
The linen were excellent. No running hot water and the toilet was almost non-functional.
The television and air conditioning were disconnected and not working. Water was undrinkable and the water provided in bottles was not much better.
Aunt Anna is very sweet and dear. Unfortunately had to call 3 times before we could check in, suspect she was upset with unplanned loadshedding. House is old, but one can appreciate the real wooden furniture. Aunt Anna prepared a delicious dinner for us, please note that this R100 per plate food is not included in the overnight price. Would have preferred to eat own, packaged snacks, but she had already prepared the meal by then. Furthermore, unfortunately we had to boil the kettle for bath water, something must have been wrong with the water pressure. Will want to support Auntie Anna again out of loyalty.
Place needs a major refurbishment. Showing its age. Anna's service was excellent.
The bedding was clean. Towels unusable. Bathroom miserable. Kitchen usable but in need of paint etc.
Ceiling fan is noisy, toilet does not flush, no facilities, except bed and fridge. TV unplugged, free Wi-Fi, but out of range of signal. Legs covered with bed flea bites the next day. Buildings are dilapidated.
Fresh, white linen, old-fashioned charm with friendly service.
Quiet, rural Karoo village, the stay was characteristic of the area. Absolutely value for money. Would recommend the place to anyone.
Aunt Anna made the most delicious breakfast and made us feel very welcome. The coffee was delicious peasant comfort that we needed for the next distance we had to drive. We are definitely going to book Karoo Koelte again. Karoo Koelte is charming and a gem.
Karoo Koelte is a traditional Karoo establishment, beautiful Karoo character rooms, clean and neat. Nicely designed. Value for money. Friendly host, we felt like family.
It was nice and quiet with friendly personnel.
Nice aunt. Will go there again. Worth stopping there.
Slept wonderfully cuddly. Old world feel with brass beds and all. Secure parking with everything needed in the room.
The place creates a farm atmosphere, in a quiet environment, unit is very comfortable and extremely tidy. One can sit in the garden and appreciate the mountains, the silence is enough to fully enjoy the break, I would definitely like to spend the night there again.
Beautifully restored, warm wood, comfortable bed.
It was wonderful and peaceful to be able to spend the night here. Neat and had a nice chat with Anna. Both worked at the Kempens.
Karoo up!
Very nice, hospitable and cute place. We slept in the veranda room and the only complaint is the noisy beds, but will definitely spend the night there again.
Thanks for the effort with the nice bedding and extra water to use. We had a great time.
Wow, Auntie Anna was a real hostess. So kind and humble. Our room was beautiful. The bed slept very well, especially after 10 hours on the road. Can't wait to go back to Victoria West so I can sleep there. Aunt Anna entered our hearts and reminded me so much of my grandmother, talking so much with her and enjoying a cup of coffee. A real people person who just wants to make everyone happy. Proverbial country hospitality.
I had the run of her house and had an outside entrance to my spacious room with its antique furniture.
We really enjoyed our 3-day stay based at Karoo Koelte as a base for exploring the area and its history. A quiet and relaxing atmosphere. We were really made to feel at home.
Very neat and nice for a quick overnight stop.
Hostess was very friendly and helpful.
Very nice host had a really good time.
We enjoyed the stay and were very happy with everything.
Experienced Karoo friendliness at its best. Really enjoyed our stay. Will visit there again.
We had a wonderful stay and after a long day on the road it was a wonderful place to rest.
Als very neat and clean, no problems with the accommodation. However, Victoria West as a destination has a problem that there is almost no water in the taps. Not the guest house's fault. They can set up a tank that works with a pressure pump to get around the problem with the municipality's low water pressure. I don't know if this is an ongoing problem with the water.
Anna said the town had water problems and that's why they only had drips and could provide us with 5L jugs on the basis. We had to wash off the dust from the long road in a bowl. Be friendly and try to make things easier.
Although it is a self-catering apartment, everything was not there. But Tannie Anna was really helpful.
A second fan would be advisable as we had beds in two rooms (it was extremely hot and mosquitoes terrible). We had no hot water in the family unit (which in the heat was not a crisis ). The kitchen could be better equipped: no paring knife or vegetable peeler, but place was clean, excellent linen, quiet and spacious We were able to braai. It is a value for money stopover spot.
Beds comfortable and unit clean. Not sure about safety.
TV didn't work. The shower drain was blocked.
The place was dirty - full of cobwebs. No water. We couldn't shower.
When we stopped in front of the guest house, we seriously considered driving on to our next destination instead. The yard was untidy, porches full of dust and leaves. We understand the fact that the area is currently going through a drought, but that is still no excuse for sloppiness. The hostess's clothes were very dirty and we decided not to dare to have breakfast here. She made an excuse that the town had no water at that time. If you are in the hospitality industry, you make provision in advance for such contingencies. It was noticeable that the surrounding guesthouses have JoJo tanks, suggesting that poor water supply is probably a regular occurrence. We only got 5 liters of water each for drinking, washing and flushing the toilet. After a long day on a dusty road, one expects to at least be able to shower and use the toilet. Although the bedding and room were clean, the lace curtains were frayed, the bedside lamp without a lamp shade. The room was covered with mosquitoes, but luckily we brought insecticide. The headboards of the beds were loose from the bed bases and slammed against the wall at the slightest movement. The shower floor consists of river stones, which are a serious risk of falling. Furthermore, there was a tattered, dirty bath mat lying in front of the toilet. The containers with coffee, biscuits and sugar were also not filled and you felt you were using the leftovers from the previous guests. We decided to leave the next morning at 6 o'clock and to go eat and shower elsewhere. I also noticed that some of the other guests also left very early.
Extremely poor, I can't believe such a place exists on the web!
It's clean, quiet and far from all noise. Would stay there again anytime.
We have no complaints about KarooKoelte, everything is very well handled, clean, etc. It's just a shame that Victoria West's water supply is unreliable.
Many thanks to Anna for the genuine kindness.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Very comfy and homely.
Very warm welcome. Overwhelmed by all the precious antiques, each with its own piece of history. House also very historic and can really be recommended. The hostess is very intellectual and interesting.
Good facilities, especially the available braai place.
Shower didn't work properly (no water) and there were plenty of mosquitoes.
I would not want to stay there again.
It is worth to interrupt a long journey and sleep over, need more time to experience the town. It's a town with character. Experienced wonderful hospitality.
The small reading lights had no light bulbs in. We asked for an extra bed as the children did not want to share a bed. This was immediately supplied with clean bedding. Thank you.
It was pleasant to be able to spend the night here. Lovely, neat and safe place. Just felt at home here. Highly recommend it to everyone.
The aunt was very friendly and helpful. Her place is truly beautiful. Clean and fresh. Relax under the trees in the garden.
Thank you very much, we were very kindly received by Anna and had a great time. The room was very comfortable, clean and tidy and had a beautiful shower. Thanks again.
It was a great stop-over to spend a night on our way home from the coast.
Friendly reception and delicious food. Everything that you need is available and neat.
Aunt Annie was lovely, friendly, helpful, staying in the stoep room was pleasant. No complaints, it felt like saying goodbye to your grandma when we had to say goodbye to drive. Was value for money for sure.
Thank you Anna for the friendly reception. Felt very much at home. Place is very neat. Will definitely stay there again.
Anna is very friendly and helpful. Everything is clean and tidy. The one bed was a little hard for my wife, but for just right for me. Will definitely stay there again if the opportunity comes.
Anna looked took care of us so beautifully, it was amazing!
Ta’Anna is a lead woman. Her handshake tells you the story of the Karoo. Her house smells of lamb pie and real coffee - you feel like you are visiting your grandmother on the farm. It's a must have for any traveller with a love for authentic culture.
We stayed here on our way to the Cape and back, and on both occasions we and our Border Collie felt like long awaited and welcome guests. Tannie Anna is a fantastic hostess and we could get some proper rest before travelling further.
Very neat and Anna was very friendly and pleasant.
Thank you, Anna, for the friendly service. Comfortable and neat.
The apartment is very comfortably furnished and very clean. Everything you need is there. The hostess is a lovely person who takes care of your needs and surprised us with a piece of cake. I would recommend Karoo Koelte B & B.
We stayed in the White House - what a quiet and peaceful corner of town. The facilities are basic, but clean, tidy and sufficient with sleeping space for 4 people. We had a nice barbecue for dinner and sat outside until late on the porch enjoying the cool evening air. The apartment is a little way from the house and very private. Aunt Anna is lovely and a good source of information about the town, and she was very helpful throughout. We would stay here again anytime.
Safe area.

Welcoming. Clean, neat. Food is served and all in an antique style.
Order by priority: 1. Boiling hot water, but no cold water. Guest room was not ready when we arrived there at 20:00, despite calling from B-West 1.5 hours earlier. 2. We booked Press Room for double bed, with specific request '"or any other room with a double bed". We got the Porch Room with two single beds, one of which was very creaky. 3. Motorcycle 23:00 and 0:00 loud started at the room and driven in and out. Not good for travelers on long drives. Summary: Owner hosted own family over festive period - no problem with that, but they were clearly not prepared for our arrival. Should have reported rooms as unavailable instead (also regarding cold water issue). I would then be able to book at another place. Now I unfortunately have to give them a negative review.
Hospitable, clean and affordable. Many restaurants nearby and easily accessible. Feeling of safety prevails.
Beautiful and peaceful place in the quiet Karoo! highly recommendable. Hospitality unmatched.
Lynette was a wonderful host and ready to assist with any request. We enjoyed her delicious homemade rusks. We slept well in a lovely stoep room with ample security. Karoo Koelte reminds me a bit of the Owl house in Nieu-Bethesda with statues in the garden and a lovely big tree in the front yard. I would highly recommend Karoo Koelte for a good rest.
Anna is a wonderful host.
It was our first time and the atmosphere and hospitality was great.
Very good and friendly reception. We admired all the antiques. After a long day on the road, we enjoyed a delicious cooked meal with leg of mutton. Thank you very much for a lovely stay and good memories of a beautiful Karoo village.
Pleasant stay. Just be aware that the town has a lot of mosquitoes in the summer, and you have to take precautions, otherwise you'll be carried away!
This is the ideal point to stop from JHB to Brackenfell. Located on the outskirts of Victoria West the oldest extension. In the White House, separate from the main house, we grilled delicious Carrot Joppie. Quiet and peaceful, children could ride bikes and walk the streets themselves. It must of course be borne in mind that the water is turned off between 7h00am and 18h00pm. Fortunately, we are already attuned to the restrictions, so extra water can be bought. It was indicated that there is WiFi but no information was left. Will definitely stay here again. Karoo oasis.
After a long day on the road, the reception was amazing. Restful. The aunt made sure we had everything we wanted and also told us where to eat. The house was clean and tidy. When we left the next morning, we said goodbye to our family until the next visit. Will use Karoo Koelte as a rest stop anytime again.
Reasonable tariff and convenient accommodation.

Enjoyed a lot. Reception was cordial. White house is well equipped for self-catering accommodation. DStv has limited channels.
First impressions upon arrival were bitterly disappointing. Bathroom facilities not good with leaking toilet. Very disappointing experience.
The owners are already too old to provide such service properly and no longer have control over the place. When we got there, they didn't know if we were expecting and couldn't decide which room to accommodate us in until I got my proof of reservation and payment. Our room was poorly maintained, it begged for some paint and the water and electrical pipes ran untidy over the top of the walls. I was ashamed that I expected my wife to spend the night in such a shack and we couldn't get out of there soon enough.
Die oom en tannie het laat wakker gebly om vir ons op te wag. Baie warm, hartlike ontvangs. Sal beslis weer hier oornag!
Was the ideal overnight spot for a family of 5/6. There is coffee, tea, sugar and rusks! Stunning old house if you like simplicity! Affordable!
Aunt Anna and Uncle Piet immediately feel like family. Very hospitable with attention to detail. Karoo tranquility immediately becomes part of you.
It's a clean and neat place, with friendly people.
We travelled from Klerksdorp to Cape Town over 2 days. We booked late on January 1 2017 and was thankful when we could be accommodated. Anna and the uncle was really helpful when we arrived at 21:00 that night. She really made us feel at home with her "this house is also your house, please make yourself feel at home". I will definitely book this B&B again - if we didn't have to leave at 06:00 again, we would've liked to try their breakfast as well! Thanks Anna and the uncle!
Wonderfully peaceful and quiet after a long day's driving. The hostess was particularly helpful and friendly. Beautifully furnished accommodation with old fashioned charm. Cute garden and playground for children.
Had a great time, the folks know the meaning of hospitality. Really value for money.
Thank you very much for being willing to accommodate our additional request.
Love the style of the house and the rooms. Bath in one room needs redoing, enamel cap on, shower head in second room needs replacing.
Our grandmother of 88 travelled with us. Unfortunately, she could not use the shower because it is not a walk-in shower. One must first get into the bath and then pull the shower curtain. At such an age it's difficult to climb into a bath. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Owners were very apologetic that everything is so old in the apartment.
It was the friendliest and loveliest people I've ever met.
Relaxed atmosphere, friendly hosts. The only problem was the ants that made their way into our suitcases over night (there was no sign of ants the previous evening).
