191 guests' feedbackLen and Pat are truly delightful hosts and hostesses. The accommodation is pleasant and the food is genuine Karoo dishes from the top shelves. The accommodation is sincerely recommended to any overnight or longer stay guests.
What an incredible experience. The place is unique and historic and peaceful.
Owners are delightful and the Manor is full of character. Convenient and comfortable.
The best place in the Karoo. Pat and Len are lovely and go out of their way to make guests feel at home. The food is fantastic.
Very satisfied - Len was hospitable and made us feel particularly welcome. Dinner was special.
Neat, clean accommodation with friendly and hospitable people. The liver biscuits were excellent!
Our hostess made us feel very welcome. The most delicious Karoo lamb chops from the on-site restaurant.
Very welcoming and comfortable.
A very attractive guest house with clean, comfortable rooms, friendly service and good security. The dinner was tasty and well-priced. Richmond should also be on every Karoo traveller's must-visit list.
Our stay was very pleasant and restful after a long day of traveling. We arrived to a very warm welcome and a painless check-in process. The room was well-kept and clean. We enjoyed a wonderful homemade meal at the restaurant; we had the cheese burger and chicken wings. Having the restaurant just outside of the rooms was a bonus as you didn't have to leave the premises to enjoy a hearty meal. Will definitely be returning on our next adventure.
Nice stay in the old house.
Spacious neat accommodation. Excellent service, restaurant a must, the food was delicious (lamb chops). Will definitely stay there again.
Very nice stay. Friendly hostess, delicious food at the on-site restaurant.
The only reason I wouldn't recommend it is that the shower head was quite dysfunctional. In fact, we gave up on trying to shower. Lovely hot water, spraying out too finely in every direction except where you want it. Also, didn't find the restaurant meal as good as it used to be.
Very welcoming and comfortable. Dinner was superb and generous.
The food was exceptionally good. We were welcomed by the owner. Felt at home.
The place looked locked up on arrival so I had to phone the host and hostess to gain access, despite being within the arrival time indicated when booking. The heritage house is good for a comfortable night's stay, but I found it extremely stuffy with no fresh air circulating in the room and house. Secure house and parking. The burger served in the restaurant was an overcooked commercially available patty, i.e. not homemade.
We were kindly received by the owners and staff on the Sunday evening, and the parking was convenient and safe. The facilities were not up to standard - bath was full of dust, shower door could not close, and beds not up to standard. The steak we ordered was not cooked right, and the drinks limited. The mosquitoes disturbed our night's rest, which further soured our stay. The accommodation has a lot of potential as a guest house, but based on the current state of affairs we will not use the facility again.
Pat and Ken were amazing hosts. The food was fabulous. The room was beautiful.
We were early received. Accommodating was beautiful, comfortable and clean. The food was excellent. I loved our stay and I wish we could have stayed over a bit longer.
Lovely hosts. Friendly, interesting and very caring. Lovely fully stocked bar. The restaurant on the premises offers delicious food. The bedrooms are lovely and every bed has an electric blanket! A mega plus on those chilly nights.
Amazing stop over to Cape Town. Lovely to have a restaurant on the premises. Warm and snug sleep in winter.
Very nice restaurant that is part of the premises.
Everything was clean and tidy. The restaurant's food was very nice. Everyone on site is friendly and considerate. A safe, peaceful place to stay.
Everything was fine. Pat and Len were fantastic.
Located in a quieter part of Richmond, Karoo Manor was ideal for us to spend the night on our way to the Cape. Comfortable bed, delicious shower made our stay very pleasant.
Pat and Len are a wonderful host and wife. Good service, even during load shedding. Hot water and bed in freezing weather. Good place to stay. Thank you very much.
Ate deliciously and slept deliciously. Can definitely recommend.
Will definitely stay at Karoo Manor Guest House again. Pat's food is also top notch and you don't have to drive. Their intimate restaurant is next to a guest house with a lot of history.
Very friendly hostess and good food in restaurant. Would definitely recommend staying there and stay there again. Accommodation and restaurant also very reasonably priced.
My trip was a bit hampered by car problems, but I was received later than expected with a lot of hospitality and a delicious bottle of wine. The day's events made me think I was going to be tired the next day, but the bed was so amaizingly comfortable, I was rested and ready for the rest of my early morning ride. Lovely quiet and dark room.
The owners were very friendly and the dining room staff were charming and efficient. The dinner of grilled lamb chops and vegetables was memorable. It was a very pleasant place to stop after a long day's driving.
We could not be on time for their prescribed check-in time. Pat and her husband had to specially come and unlock for us late in the evening and did it with great grace.
The accommodation was very clean and tidy. The dinner in the restaurant was great and the drinks from the bar were refreshing after a long day on the road. The hostess and host were not only extremely professional, but brilliant company. I would recommend the guest house to anyone. Thank you very much for an excellent evening there.
Good food, neat and pleasant owners. Great saddle bar.
Owners very involved and super welcoming. Fantastic meal provided. Was on the expensive side.
Neat and safe place in a beautiful Karoo town. The food at Pat's is amazing.
Well situated for an overnight stop, just off the N1. The hosts were good, and our meal of Karoo lamb chops was excellent.
While the location is great and the fact that they welcome dogs is wonderful, it was very pricey with a single person paying the same as a couple.
The owners received us very kindly and even washed off the ice on our car's windshield with water when we left early in the morning.
Room was clean and had the expected tea/coffee facilities including a fridge. Bed was warm and comfortable.
Good accommodation and friendly service.
Not the same as the previous owners. They don't make you feel welcome. No water to shower in the mornings. Have to use a bucket to flush toilets.
Len and Pat are welcoming, easy going hosts. Karoo Manor is the perfect stopover.
Dinner was delicious and even loadshedding couldn't stop them. Everything was perfectly planned and hated beforehand. We really enjoyed the bar.
Nice 5 star karoo hospitality.
The owners, Len and Pat's involvement with their guests was exceptional.
Hosts were so welcoming and attentive to detail. Immaculately clean bedroom and bathroom. Made warm and cozy before we arrived. Dinner was exceptional. Best meal we have had in years. Extremely well priced for the outstanding quality and care received. We always recommend this stop over to all. We also post on Facebook etc. It's truly exceptional to find such a lovely place to rest for the night. Security is great. Parking secure. Very quiet.

Friendly hospitable reception with the most delicious dinner - Karoo lamb with vegetables! Rested the souls of tired Gautenians. Night rest in a beautifully equipped room with everything you need. Stay on our list for places to stay when we hit the road to the Cape again.
Comfortable room and outdoor part. Owners friendly and talk to everyone. Menu has a lot of local dishes that are well prepared and served friendly. Prices fair.
Good location, good people, good food.
Good service, and friendly host and wife.
See stars.
It's an old, but comfortable guest house with very friendly owners, Len and Pat. We can especially recommend Pat's Karoo Kitchen. On a Sunday evening they opened especially for us and served a delicious dinner.
Museum is very interesting. Had a nice time. Thank you.
Couldn't get dinner though, even though I wanted to arrange in advance. Called before 15h00 with a request that they hold dinner for us, but was informed that it is only an a la carte restaurant. Also had to rush to be there before loadshedding, otherwise we can't be checked in. It was quite disappointing. We were there just before 20h00 hours, I feel the guest house could be more accommodating there. Be ready for loadshedding.
We had a wonderful sleep over. We were kindly received and the dinner by a cozy fire was top notch. The secure parking is an added bonus.
Hospitable host but the whole house and the room smelled of cat or dog urine.
Cute bar, fair price and a nice welcoming feel.
Genuine Karoo hospitality from the owners. Friendly service. Owners made an effort to make us feel as at home as possible. Will definitely visit again.
We arrived there just before rugby. Had no idea where we would eat. Pat made room for us. Good food at good value. Will definitely stay there again next year on our annual golf tour.
We arrived in Richmond late afternoon and stopped in front of a very good example of a typical Karoo house. The owners welcomed us and did everything to make us feel at home. The dinner of fried lamb chops excellent. Immediately in love with the floors and ceilings. Slept very peacefully. Very peaceful atmosphere.
Showers will help a lot, especially for our pensioners who struggle to get in and out of the bath.
It's a bonus that there is a restaurant on site. For a woman alone it was very safe indeed. Had a great time and ate!
Friendly reception, neat room, delicious food! Our little girl was also welcome. We will definitely use this nice place to stay again!
Friendly reception, came out immediately when I arrived. Helped to carry in my luggage. Room neat, tidy and clean.
We enjoyed it immensely and were welcomed with open arms! Delicious meals, warm rooms for the winter. The place is a hidden gem in Richmond!
Would definitely stay there again, best value. The owners and staff are friendly and the cleanliness of the place is impeccable.
Friendly homely, welcoming, great hosts, great food.
Very neat and clean.
The new owners go to great lengths with their guests, including making you feel welcome, and making sure you are properly fed and cared for. Nothing is too small for them. The rooms are neat and clean. We will spend the night there again.
The owners and staff at restaurant very friendly.
Good service, hospitable people and good food.
Friendly owners, very neat and clean facilities. The restaurant's food is top notch.
Karoo Manor Guesthouse has a unique old-fashioned feel with its wooden floors and steel ceilings, and its owners are friendly and very helpful. It is clean and tidy with all the necessary facilities, including a restaurant with friendly service and good food.
Thank you for the clean place and safe parking Also that my dog and cat were also welcome.
Rooms are basic but neat. Lovely wooden floors. Host and hostess extremely helpful, and willing to go the extra mile. Restaurant's food is delicious and well priced.
My wife and I have embarked on a road trip to take us to places we have never been, places that are lesser known and something different. Richmond is such a place, often passed by but never explored. Our stay there at Karoo Manor was everything we could have wished for, from saddles for seats in the pub to a wonderful Karoo lamb dish for dinner, followed by a restful night in a lovely clean and comfortable bedroom that's 150 years old. We are so pleased we chose that spot on our expedition.
Restaurant is conveniently connected to the housing.
The meal was good, lots of food. My husband and I would have had enough if we shared one portion. It would be better to make the positions smaller and lower the price.
Len and Pat made us feel very much at home and it is so nice to see that they treat and build up our heritage with such respect. Good food! Nice atmosphere and nice people, a winning recipe!
Obviously a stop over destination, the welcome was warm despite the weather being freezing. The room was warm and comfortable. The restaurant served generous portions of country food. The dinner was good next to the fire.
Got room with only a bath. Asked for a shower and then moved to another room. Offered to make us dinner which we did not accept as we still had enough road food left.
Very peaceful and quiet village. Pat and Len opened the restaurant especially for us to provide us with a meal. Neat old historic house. Slept and ate peacefully. Hope the owners can manage to get the town back on its feet.
The room was very neat and clean. The dinner we had at the restaurant was also top notch. Karoo Manor Guest House and Restaurant can be unconditionally recommended.
If the room was as desired, maybe only the middle bed was very uncomfortable, but otherwise everything was fine, thank you.
The stay was well hosted. The restaurant meal was enjoyable.
Great dinner and great company. Rooms only lack a shower.
The beds we slept on could be a bit more comfortable. The mattresses were quite hard and the bed bases a little wobbly.
It was nice to be received by nice people, everything was excellent.
Their hospitality is very pleasant. Restuarant was great with their food that they prepared, was of the best quality I have eaten in a long time.
The hosts went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.
Clean, tidy and spacious room. Delicious meal, very hospitable welcome. Thank you very much!
Owners very helpful, nice restaurant and hangout on site.
The owners of the guest house are themselves present on the premises upon arrival. They are truly hospitable and go out of their way to make their guests feel welcome and at home. The rooms are very comfortable and safe. A definite plus is their restaurant which is on the same premises.
Food could be less and more tasty. Could have rusks in room.
Food at the restaurant is very nice and will definitely go there again. The house we stayed in is around 140 years old. The rooms inside are beautifully done and are perfect for a night's rest.
On-site restaurant and bar and secure parking are welcome extras.
Was immediately told that no cutlery was allowed in rooms. When we wanted to use our own beer and shandy on an outside seat with very little shade we were told that it was totally prohibited because there is a bar on site and therefore registered for liquor sales. No lounge, just lots of saddle seats - very unsuitable for an 80-year-old. Amenities therefore very inadequate.
See stars.
They sent me a text that I didn't get until after I arrived. I suggested that they call instead, since one cannot answer a text while driving. The reception was cold and unfriendly.
The hostess was fantastic. Waitress the best ever. Lamb chops were delicious. Room was clean and tidy and aircon was a bonus. Thank you!
Comfortable, peaceful, and the owners were willing to go the extra mile to help in a crisis situation. We can definitely highly recommend Karoo Manor!
Very well received and well eaten. Considered staying another night and trying the lamb chops.
Decent accommodation for the price.
Very nice dinner in a pleasant setting under the 100 year old vines.
The owners welcomed us kindly and made us feel right at home.
Rooms very comfortable and friendly service.
Towels old, frayed and smell of smoke. Beds wobbly, mattresses hollow. Bedding full of stains. Shower clogged. Milk sour.
I have stayed here before and our stay was great again as always!
Very good value for money. Will stay here again for sure.
Had a great stay and ate! We will come over again in January. Our favorite overnight stop on the way to the Cape especially because their pet is friendly!
We had a good nights sleep in a comfy bed. The appreciated the aircon and the fan. We found the little pub and restaurant was very quaint. The room was a good size and a comfy place to rest.
We were warmly received by Liezel and she immediately made us feel at home. Would stay at Karoo Manor-Marinas again anytime and can really recommend it.
The accommodation was lovely, clean and very spacious with a fridge and kettle making things easier. The Krip restaurant has lots of character and we were accommodated on a Sunday night with the necessities. The homemade bobotie and rice were delicious, just needed a homemade chutney. The chicken fillet portion was slightly small and needed a sauce. The delicious red wine and friendliness made up for the shortages. Very nice and quiet and we enjoyed it!
The room was simple but clean and perfectly adequate. Restaurant next door was very convenient.
We arrive and was received very warm. The place is clean and cosy due to the farm atmosphere. We enjoyed the restaurant that cater some of the best sheep dishes available. Will definitely go back and stay there.
The room was comfortable and clean with enough coffee to have another cup of coffee before we left the next morning. The hostess was friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay there again if we have to.
Karoo Manor is well maintained and good renovations were made to the old house. We felt safe although the car parked outside caused some anxiety.
We had a little trouble getting someone's attention upon arrival and had to call the contact number first. However, once we got in and parked the car safely behind the gate, the accommodation was quite up to standard. The air conditioning helped a lot in the heat and, maybe it's a silly thing, but the water pressure was excellent. It even sprayed my toothpaste off the toothbrush! The room was right on the street with a lot of people walking by so we couldn't open the window and it just makes you feel caged in. The restaurant next door could have been noisy but luckily wasn't. If it wasn't the last night of our trip, we would have sat down there. WiFi would have been a nice amenity, but is also not absolutely necessary. The power points at the boiler need to be thought out a little better. All things considered, it was up to standard for one night's overnight stay.
The staff waited up until late. In spite of that, they welcomed us so warmly. Thanks for the privilege to have such a great stay!
Always pleasant to sleep over here. We always look forward to the delicious food served. The rooms are neat, clean and comfortable.
We can recommend the venue for cleanliness and neatness. The staff was also very helpful and friendly. Although we braaied our own dinner the meals served from "Die Krip Restaurant" looked very appetising and good value for money. Will stay here again.
Friendly people, comfortable accommodation, bar and restaurant with unique character and the most delicious Karoolam.
Was like a home away from home. Friendly staff, very good food and nice rooms. Couldn't ask for better.
I had a very good meal, peaceful sleep and good breakfast! Everybody was very friendly and helpful.
Before our arrival, the guest house sent a confirmation message because they could not reach us by mobile phone. The reception was friendly and lightning fast. The room was clean and tidy and everything was as advertised. The Krip restaurant, which is really long A Karoo Manor-Marinas, is a lovely place to visit with a unique bar. The young bartender, Ruiter, is a star. The lamb shank (De Aar Karoo lambs I understand) is a winner! Definitely recommend A Karoo Manor-Marinas (and their restaurant).
A jewel in the Karoo. Recommend it.
We were on our way back to Cape Town from Johannesburg and were looking for half mark overnight accommodation. Richmond complied. We looked at the reviews and were surprised to see almost no negative comments. Everyone also recommended the food. We were kept informed the whole time and inquired about our arrival time. The staff were very friendly and room was clean and ready on arrival. The fridge and air conditioner worked perfectly. The dinner was great value for money. We will stay there again in the future. Thank you very much for a pleasant stay.
Staff is friendly and the rooms are neat.
Had a nice room with air conditioning and bathroom with shower and bath. There was an electric blanket on the bed and the receptionist brought us a menu and simply brought the meal of our choice to the room. Will stay again at A Karoo Manor-Marinas. It's a little more than halfway from Johannesburg to Cape Town and a good early rest after the long road.
Second time over here and can recommend it with confidence!
See stars.
Enjoyed overnight stay and dinner at restaurant.
Slept well, was neat and clean and safe.
Our bathroom had wall tiles missing and the bathroom blinds were dirty and dusty. The pressed ceilings are attractive and the staff are friendly. A coat of paint and some attention to better cleaning would improve this accommodation a lot.
Room well equipped. Bedding looked a bit old and not 100% clean. Towels had a funny damp smell. Felt safe, slept well, but such a small place has much more potential.
Restaurant was not at all up to the number of guests/visitors. Very limited availability on menu and wine list was 'come and choose for yourself which one of the 2 bottles available sir would like'.
I will definitely visit again and stay longer next time to get to know the village better. The room was just what we needed and very quiet and peaceful even though it was a day or so before new years!
Excellent and spacious accommodation. Dining area was also cozy.
Clean, safe, good reception and good food at Die Krub.
Very cute place, friendly staff and the restaurant's food is delicious.
An incredibly nice vibe that is carried through by the Krip (restaurant and bar). Fantastic food along with clean and tidy rooms. Truly a stop that ticks all the boxes. Ps: get yourself a lamb shank, you definitely won't regret it.
Had to search a bit because we were looking for a table and chairs. We slept peacefully and were able to continue rested.
Richmond is rich in hospitality, friendliness and it's truly South African. A Karoo Manor-Marinas made me feel like I was living a scene from one of South Africa's films like Klein-Karoo. The rooms were neat and clean and the restaurant provided tasty food, and a nice feeling in general.
We had a delay on the road and arrived late. Reinette was always very friendly and helpful. She made us feel like guests of honor and is definitely a good advertisement for A Karoo Manor-Marinas. The room is comfortable and very tasteful. Thank you for a wonderful rest.
It was nice to spend the night in the Karoo in safety, where everyone is friendly and the food is great.
Lovely place to stay, clean, tidy, nice electric blankets against the cold and fantastic restaurant on site. Friendly and helpful service in both the guest house and the restaurant.
Nice old town house with good facilities and helpful staff.
From arrival to departure was made so pleasant for us by the staff. Dinner at Die Krip at the lovely open fire was wonderful and the menu just the best. Breakfast was delicious and we felt so welcome and special. When we left we decided to possibly spend another night or 2 there on our way back to Natal.
What a wonderful surprise, the rooms are actually bigger than they look on the photos! The staff was friendly and helpful. It's also convenient that there's a restaurant on site, I do wish though that it had vegetarian and vegan options. I was almost sorry it was a hurried one-night stop, I wish we had stayed longer to explore the town more.
It was our second visit and we will always return! Truly a joy staying there!
We arrived early evening. The kindness of Reinet and team was incredible. Not to mention the delicious dinner we enjoyed there. Nice to sit outside and visit. Rooms are very clean and tidy. Everything we needed was there. Good security.
Very friendly helpful people beautiful rooms, beautiful restaurant and a stunning bar! Will definitely go back there, was worth it!
Relaxed area and friendly service. They walked the extra mile by supply a room for the call I had to make, it lasted about half an hour. And they opened the restaurant for us on the Sunday morning. It felt safe to stay there. The place is very neat and you can see they put a lot of effort in to the decor.
Beautiful place! Very peaceful and quiet to sleep. Staff friendly and very helpful. Would recommend for good overnight stay.
Definitely a must when considering accommodation on the way to Cape Town or back. Special mention of Reinette who received us so well and looked after us so nicely.
If you are tired and you get a clean and tidy room, you will feel better soon. Especially with such a nice restaurant at your front door.
Stayed over for the book festival. Was too short.
Very nice place with lots of character. Rooms are big and clean, restaurant and bar have a lot of character with friendly staff. Will stay here again.
See rating.
Lovely stopover for someone travelling from Gauteng. Was tired after the journey and arrived at a clean, neat guesthouse. Reception was friendly. Wonderful restaurant. Slept well.
Would recommend this place to anyone.
Thank you very much for the very nice stay at your place. We really enjoyed it. Was just a bit confusing to find the place because the streets don't really have names (or we couldn't see it). Your place definitely is worth the trouble, and the food at the Krip was excellent. Would definitely make use of you again and strongly recommend.
It was our second time staying there.
The rooms are well appointed and comfortable after a long journey. The food at the Krip was delicious.
Thank you very much for the very nice stay with you. We really enjoyed it. Your place is really worth it. Food at the Crib was excellent. Would like to have breakfast served earlier for people who want to leave early. Will definitely use you again.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Delicious dinner. The room was very spacious and the fridge was a nice plus. But the room (paint) and bathroom needs some maintenance and I recommend new bedlinen.

The people at Marina's are excellent. Top notch hospitality and service. Felicity and Victor especially were stars.
Had a nice stay and delicious dinner. The old grape arbor provides lovely shade in the summer.
Refrigerator made so much noise that we had to turn it off. Website indicates check-out time as 10:00, although Marinas insists it is 9:00. The breakfast was incredibly overpriced - don't even get enough butter for your toast. Also no shower in the bathroom.
It's a nice place to sleep. The manger's food and hospitality are just what you need after a long journey. Will definitely stay there again next year. 10/10.
Very impressed with the cleanliness and rooms. We had a nice meal at the restaurant and can highly recommend the mutton neck. Unfortunately the power went out and they then had to turn off the geysers for the evening, so we had no hot water when we wanted to shower before our drive next morning. Friendly reception, value for money and clean.
A Karoo Manor-Marinas was the best value for money we've ever experienced, the room was neat, the service and facilities were fantastic. You can also visit the restaurant and pub for a very unique experience. Also make sure you visit the bookstore.
Unfortunately there were no other staff on duty after we were shown to our rooms. Only much later in the evening there was a knock on the door with a very unfriendly lady who wanted the rest of the payment.
It's a rural town with rural challenges. There is more than enough silence for the soul. Stay here for 3 days or more. Talk to the people. Life is too short to just spend the night in Richmond. Stay longer!
Comfortable, fits in with the Karoo.
Marina's is the best possible stay over on a long trip. Comfortable family rooms, clean and neat. The staff are friendly and helpful. And the restaurant serves the best Karoo lamb ever!
Will recommend it for a stopover. Central location with all the necessities for one night.
Good experience. Safe, neat and a nice breakfast.
Very pleasant. The problem we had was sorted out with Sumi. Food at the Krip was very good and a pleasant atmosphere prevailed. Will use this again.
The Krip Restaurant and courtyard that forms part of the guest house was a festival to experience! What an unexpected experience after a long day's travel - a truly delightful experience after the long journey and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. The rooms were quiet and peaceful and well furnished and equipped. Would definitely recommend it.
We had a lovely stay and dinner was delicious. Thank you!
Was a refreshing stop with fantastic dinner and breakfast.
Conveniently near a restaurant. Friendly helpful service. The room has everything you need and is very neat and clean. Definite value for money.
Staff friendly. Good stay. Eatery staff are poorly trained. Beer (warm) and wine on menu not available. Service slow. Tea served with no plate to put teaspoon on after the time. Some of the food is no longer available. I was so disappointed, didn't even eat then.
