88 guests' feedbackI wish I knew why, but Bethulie lives in my heart. I truly love coming here and have done so often. And coming to Karoo Pondok is like coming home. Thank you.
Our 4 day visit was fantastic. Linda is the best. We want to come again soon. Thank you very much Linda.
We had a lovely stay, and Louis was an incredibly helpful host. If you travel with dogs, I would definitely recommend Karoo Pandok. The area was well fenced, with plenty of room for our dogs to stretch their legs and run around safely. For a "pet-friendly destination" I would definitely recommend it. The rooms are very clean, good linen and nice mattresses. Everything one needs in a peaceful atmosphere.
Very nice stay. DStv would have perfected it.
It was a lovely visit with excellent service and a friendly welcome by Louise. The braai suits for dinner and her breakfast were great, and the sleeping place spotless and adequate. I can definitely recommend Karoo Pandok.
Wonderful is an excellent hostess.
We were warmly and kindly received by Zelda at Karoo Pandok and had a very nice stay after a long day on the road. Our room was tidy, with everything needed for a good night's rest. We enjoyed the silence and farm atmosphere, felt safe and could go for a lovely walk.
The room is very comfortable, aircon, electric blanket, hot shower. Linda is so willing to help. Delicious breakfast. Cute little place.
Friendly service. Clean, neat, beautiful.
The host Zelda was friendly and the accommodation was perfect for a stopover off the N1. We would stay there again if we travel on the N1 again by road.
Linda received us very kindly. She deserves a compliment. Bethulie was very cold, but the fireplace made the stay nice and warm.
Our room was spotless and peaceful - everything you could want from an overnight stay.
See stars.
The hospitable hostess welcomed us, provided us with everything we needed, and informed us well about the area, so we could sightsee and find a good restaurant.
We had a very comfortable stay both nights, on our journey to Cape Town and back a week later. The room had everything we needed for a sleep-and-go. The only drawback was the short road from town to the establishment. We were towing a trailer, and all the potholes in the road (first some tar and then it changed into a gravel road) made it quite difficult. A low car would not find it easy to navigate.
Met all our requirements.
Well equipped rooms, friendly reception by the hostess. Real farm atmosphere. Will definitely stay there again.
The owner is always lovely and helpful. The rooms are well equipped and it's lovely to wake up to the feel of the garden in the morning.
Thank you very much, we had a very nice stay. The unit is neat and equipped with everything you need.
Unit was very neat and they give a friendly meeting.
Safety was a big factor for us. The room we booked was not what we got. The room unit was very clean and the hostess was very helpful and friendly. Nice farm feel with animals on the yard.
The rooms are very neat and spacious. Louise was very friendly and immediately made us feel welcome.
Very friendly people and neat place. Bed has a good mattress and aircon was great. Dog friendly.
Nice hot water. Amenities were clean.
The location is on the border of Bethulie and has a real farm atmosphere. The rooms are very clean and tidy with stylish decor. The hostess, Louise, is very pleasant and friendly. She is very helpful and also makes a tasty breakfast on request (at extra cost).
Stayed the night on our way home to Johannesburg. Excellent.
Everything was pleasant and tidy. The only thing, our air-con leaked really bad and it bothered us quite a bit through the night and wet the whole floor. Mate, we had a very nice stay. The rooms' decor is very nice and comfortable.
The hostess is fantastic - we will definitely stay there again!
Please also visit the Old Kar restaurant in town, the most delicious genuine Karoo lamb chop you will find there.
Louise was friendly, kind and went above and beyond to accommodate us at Karoo Pandok. Our new rescue pup was fed and received her own bed to sleep in. Louise even managed to organise take aways to our room. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Would definitely recommend this spot if you’re travelling with pets.
A real little gem at the end of a long road in this village. Hostess friendly and helpful. Pure farm with everything you need to relax wonderfully before the next day's further drive.
The room was good, the electric blanket in winter was a positive. Too bad the bathroom doesn't have a door.
Thank you very much! It ended our vacation on a high note.
Bethulie is a small town. Nothing fancy.
Louise and her husband are very pleasant and make you feel comfortable. The garden is beautiful and nice to have all the animals there.
Louise is a friendly and helpful hostess. Efforts made to bring the local attractions to our attention. The "farm atmosphere" was to our liking.
Our room very clean and tidy. TV just very old and could easily be upgraded as well as new towels.
We were kindly welcomed and the room was neat and comfortable.
Very nice to go home there. Will go there again on next visit to Port Alfred.
Lovely warm, air-conditioned rooms on a freezing winter evening and they really fulfilled our extra requests so wonderfully. Breakfast was legendary! See you again!
The house is so cute, neat and clean. We all had a wonderful time on the stoep and appreciated the silence. Our visit to the Old Kar Restaurant was just as enjoyable. The food was top notch. Thank you Louise for your hospitality and kindness.
We were late and yet Louise received us kindly. Thank you very much. Neat and comfortable accommodation. The air conditioning was a bonus.
Had a peaceful atmosphere at the pool.
Would stay there anytime.
Thank you Louise and Barry, you went out of your way to make our stay as pleasant as possible, we really felt at home. The rooms are neat and very well equipped, we will definitely book again at Karoo Pandok in the future.
Clean and tidy. Hostess very pleasant, went out of her way to make our stay pleasant. Delicious barbecue packages were prepared for us. We enjoyed the stay.
We had an amazing stay at Karoo Pandok. Louise is extremely accommodating and nothing it too big of an effort. Breakfast was delicious. The rooms are cosy and clean, with everything you need. The aircon and the perfect pool is a godsend in the Free State heat. We will definitely stay here again when driving down to Port Elizabeth.
The description leaves you with the impression that breakfast is included, which was not the case.
Arrived late at night after we had a car problem and Louise was very helpful to arrange for food for us at the Ou Kar restaurant before their kitchen closes, and she also waited for us. The road leading to the accommodation is a gravel road and a bit flooded, and other roads than what the GPS shows must be followed. Clean, neat room and a lovely bed, and very hot water. Mosquitoes were very bothersome.
See stars.
The room we used to spend the night was very neat and clean. The bedding was neat and clean. Louise and Bertie's friendly welcome was exceptional. However, the room only had one small bathroom window and a double wooden swinging door without mosquito nets. Our evening was the usual very hot Bethulie and no electricity or air conditioning until about 11pm. So the room was impractical. We Gautenians cannot sleep with such open doors (you never know what other guests are walking around on the premises!). The accommodation was good, but R800/night is too much for a Daalder. R600 is more on the spot.
It is always a pleasure to spend the night here. The 2 additional rooms are a definite asset! Hope to stay here again.
Louise and her husband were excellent, went out of their way to accommodate us.
Our room was comfortable and clean with air conditioning, kettle and TV with limited channels. The pool is not fenced and therefore a risk for small children. The neat garden contributes to a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere. The noisy pub in town serves acceptable meals - apparently until late sometimes! Vehicles with low ground clearance will need to drive very carefully on the indicated route to Karoo Pondok, although it is only a few hundred meters rough. There is an alternative route which is better, but without directions - so ask in advance.
Relaxed and blissful for the soul. A farm feel within a town.
Booking was hassle free with prompt feedback. We were warmly received by Louise, the friendly hostess and everything was ready for our stay. The place is very peaceful, interesting and safe. The afternoon was hot but we had a great time cooling off in the pool. Dinner at Die Kar Restaurant in town is recommended, not to mention the delicious breakfast the next morning at the guest house! Thank you very much for your warm service, see you again!
We were received so kindly by Louise that we immediately felt welcome. She happens to be from Pretoria (first lived there) and after about 10 minutes in Bethulie I understood why she moved! The quiet environment, friendly people, lovely cool pool and the rooms were perfect with the air conditioning! That bed. I can say with ease, having stayed at 4 guesthouses during my holiday, Karoo Pandok's bed was the winner. Thank you! We will definitely stay there again!
We rented Karoo Pandok's Karoo house and Farmer's Cottage for a few days, because we wanted to celebrate my brother's 60th birthday in Bethulie. The cottages were beautifully clean, with smart decor, comfortable beds and good linen. The water was hot and the towels luxuriously soft and white. Louise and Barry were excellent hosts and made us feel so welcome. The location is just outside the village and it's easy to walk to the high street within minutes.
From the moment that we arrived we were treated in a friendly and hospitable way, everything was clean and neat and we had a very nice time.
Breakfast was absolutely fantastic. Louise is a kind lady who really made us feel welcome.
Very neat and clean. The people are friendly, hospitable and helpful. Pleasant farming community. A place with a rich history. Accommodation was nice and private, relaxing with cattle coming all the way to the veranda. Really enjoyed it and would stay longer next time.
Friendly reception with a nice farm atmosphere with sheep baaing and stories of big snakes. The swimming pool was very refreshing after a long trip and a treat and oasis in the Karoo.
Friendly and helpful reception. Beautiful and neat accommodation with lovely and luxurious linen and matress, there is a lot of detail in the décor - love it. Thanks for the aircon on such a hot day/night. Everything you need for an overnight stay in the town. True farm life with the sheep and other animals - was such a relaxing experience. We enjoyed dinner at Die Ou Kar in the town. So unpretentious but the nicest place with cold beer and wine. Louis, thank you for the personal attention and the nice food you personally prepared for us! It is the most delicious slap chips that we've ever eaten. Nice and brown and crispy - we will definitely come again! It started to rain during the night and we left the next morning in the rain - so happy for you, hope you get more of it.
Karoo Pandok is a neat guest house and we were kindly received, and received all the necessary information from the manager about where we could go to eat and the like.
The perfect overnight accommodation between Cape Town and Johannesburg. Good service, clean and comfortable rooms, and a delicious breakfast. Just don't be hasty at breakfast. Breakfast only gets to you at about 9. Use this family time to explore Bethule on foot.
We haven't felt so welcome at a guest house in a long time. Very friendly people who made us feel right at home. Beautiful clean place and had a great night's rest after the long road. Before we hit the road again the next morning, we were treated to a breakfast in another class. I can definitely recommend Karoo Pandok.
We enjoyed a quick one night stop in Bethulie on the way back to Durban and enjoyed warm hospitality from Louis plus an enjoyable meal in their restaurant, Die Ou Kar. Thank you very much Louis.
A beautiful little place. Here and there something needs attention, but still a quiant place to overnight.
Nobody to welcome us, we had to phone and wait for somebody to come. Shower doesn't have a curtain and water is everywhere on the smooth floor while you are showering. My wife slipped on the slippery floor, luckily she didn't get too hurt. Bed only has 1 sheet. Entertainment area was dirty, not even wiped clean, dirty glasses standing around. Photos online are very misleading. Never again!
As mentioned, it was again a pleasant experience
We also enjoyed Karoo hospitality in the sense that Louis quickly served us a "crispy" mixed salad, along with delicious roasts and real boerewors. Thank you very much, once again!
We were very impressed with the accommodation and the friendliness. Would definitely stay there again.
Spent the night here on my way to Cape Town. Neat little place with lush garden and swimming pool, so refreshing after the long road. Make sure to pop in at the Ou Kar Restaurant to meet the locals. Louis and his team are very hospitable and friendly.
Quiet atmosphere, clean and tidy. Pleasant surprise on the long road. We will definitely stay at Louis again!
The accommodation is quite basic, but very pleasant. The small fridge is very wobbly and the faucet attachment of the sink on its last legs. It gives the impression that maintenance of the place is a little behind. Karoo Pandok offers excellent outside visiting and braai facilities and a beautiful garden and farm animals in camps just next door. The breakfast, which is offered in the owner's restaurant in town, was excellent. It should also be a lovely place to enjoy other meals.
We had a wonderful stay at the Karoo Pondok, with the owners organising us a wonderful braai-pack and charcoal and even stocking the fridge, after checking telephonically with us. Our kids loved the rural setting and all the wonderful animals.
We were happy with our accommodation, although the shower door had a panel missing and the fridge never switched off in the night, which made it noisy in the room. We would recommend that people bring a self-catering meal. We had supper at the owner's restaurant in Bethulie, die Ou Kar, which appeared to be the only one in town. The music was sickeningly loud, even when getting out of the car across the road. It appeared to be enjoyed by a few drinking patrons at the pub, but really made our dining experience awful, but we had no option. So ... take your own food and have a braai at your accommodation!
Please see the stars.
It was delicious! We were simply upgraded and Louis kept our forgotten belongings for us too!
It is very beautiful and comfortable. Will go back for sure.
This was a really great stay. Unusual but great experience combined with good food, courtesy, and friendliness from the staff.
Karoo Pondok is truly value for money accommodation - we were able to take our pets (dogs) with us and the area was comfortable and big enough for them. Karoo Pandok's owner also owns the Old Car restaurant in the town where we had a very nice meal the night of our stay. Neat and affordable accommodation. Thank you!
We enjoyed our stay very much. There were many lovely domestic animals to see and interact with. The host is very friendly and kind.
Karoo Pandok is lovely! And remember to visit the restaurant (which also belongs to the owner of Karoo Pandok)!
A Karoo pondok lovingly transformed into a beautiful, fresh place to relax!
Very nice, comfortable house with lots of play space for children.
We stayed at Karoo Huisie on the way back from the Cape. Was pleasantly surprised with the size of the house; it's ideal for a family with 2 young children. Big lawn for the kids to play out the frustration of the long drive! Hospitality world class and can recommend as an ideal overnight stop.
Accommodation was in the farmhouse, it was perfect for our family. The service was fantastic (thanks Louis), and the food (dinner and breakfast) delicious. Definitely recommend.
