We stayed for only one night at the Katberg Hotel, in our search for snow. The hotel is a historic place, almost a monument in the Eastern Cape. It was my first time there. My parents went there on their honeymoon probably 40 years ago. Our stay was nice. The setting is beautiful and I think it will be a great destination in the summer. The rooms were neat. The bathrooms were old though. I assume the rooms have been redone, but the bathrooms need attention as well as the carpets in the rooms. I would suggest that the beds get electric sheets for the winter. We specifically went to sleep in the Katberg with the aim of getting snow in the mountain pass, 30 km from there. It was a successful trip and we had a great snow experience. Hogsback is not far from here, but we wanted to see snow where it was not trampled. I think the Katberg Hotel is a nice place. I would like to see them market more aggressively because I think they could get more visitors if they marketed more. There is also a beautiful golf course. I look forward to visiting Katberg again. Our reception was friendly. The staff are very attentive and the dinner and breakfast were delicious. We had a good time in the cozy area around the fire. I also suggest that the hotel market themselves to businesses. I would like to see this monument and pride of the Eastern Cape flourish with visitors.
Unfortunately, our vacation was not as we planned. Firstly, the road to the hotel is very bad and you need a 4x4 to get to the hotel. The bathroom and toilet are very disappointing and it completely spoiled the holiday for us. The toilets are not working properly and are very close to the door. The showers are old and the water is brown, so showering/bathing was not a pleasure. They can also put more effort into the meals.
Very very beautiful, but can see the care of the gardens being left behind - probably COVID and drought. The food was amazing and our waiter, shy but very very cute. Not crazy about reception, but generally nice, warm people.
