We slept well and stayed. Was nice, might invest in gas stove to boil coffee water. Eskom short-circuits everything.
Enjoyable, comfortable and bedding was good. Had most appliances needed, but the braai needs lighting.
The accommodation was good, but the unit was only front cleaned, not thoroughly cleaned, the walls and some of the dishes were sticky and needed to be cleaned before use, there are spiders everywhere. We are still waiting for the damage deposit.
Place non-slip mat next to bed. I had guests for tea and they had to bring their own cup.
Dealing with the website is always a pleasure, however it's not always the same when arriving at the destination and meeting an individual or owner. However one just makes the best of it. Others in the group thought a pop-in would have been welcomed to hear if everything's still okay but like I said we made the best and most of our stay.
Accommodation needs renovation. Owner is unfriendly.
This is the dirtiest place we have tried to sleep in. Upon arrival, the woman opened the sliding door and a rotten smell caught me. I just hoped it would go away when the door and windows were open, but it didn't go away. We kept all the windows open all night and tried to sleep but couldn't. It continued to stink and of course the mosquitoes got to you too. Because of loadshedding we didn't see all the dirt right away on Friday night, but on Saturday morning when we got up, we just realized we couldn't stay there for a weekend. Especially after my son-in-law took a shower 1st and the water in the shower pooled like a bathtub, that was the last straw. You are standing comfortably in a pool of water that does not drain. And the spiders and cobwebs and dirty floors and walls. No, sis! We never see that place again. Then the woman who is probably the caretaker reckons they have cleaned. She has yet to learn what cleaning is. I have pictures of the place. We tried to make ourselves at home in the Penguin. I am still waiting for them to refund my damage deposit of R1000. They first wanted a R2 000 breakage deposit. We didn't even use their crockery or anything. I gathered my own.
I am very happy I decided to take a stay at Katinka Self-catering. WiFi, full package DStv, enough parking bay, it's peaceful and most of all had a nice braai place inside.
Very neat place. I recommend Katinka Self-catering to anyone who wants a clean, tidy place to sleep.
Room is small but comfortable and tidy. We just wanted a place to sleep and as campers are used to functioning in small spaces.
Really enjoyed stay with comfortable beds, very private. Friendly reception from hostess and helpful where possible, keep us informed in connection with power outages. TV and Wifi are top.
Stay was nice quiet and relaxing safe area.
Only criticism is the fact that the grass was not cut and untidy garden. Then we would have liked to have our own braai facilities, but simply bought a small braai ourselves. It was lovely to sit on the stoep in the evening and have a barbecue.
We paid the full amount with the reservation. During our trip we got a message from the owner that we had to pay a deposit of R500 for possible breakages. It's the first time that something like this has been required of us. I think the owner should indicate the information on their profile. Making extra transfers during your trip is inconvenient.
The house is neat and well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay, but the finishing such as paint and plastering needs attention. One also has difficulty opening and closing the windows. The grass was long and old building materials next to the house looked untidy.
Nice close to the sea and quiet place. Will go again.
The best thing about this place was the bathtub and the friendly neighbour.
Kitchen area (single plate stove and toaster dirty). Very poor linen (sheets feel like canvas), no garden with a lawn and bench or walled area as shown in photo. Very unsafe for a 2 year old toddler.
The house lacks maintenance and the outside area is not clean. The lady indicated that they plan to put up a new fence and gate in front. Outside trash and a faucet outside will also help. Place is very impersonal and does not remind you of a house by the sea.
Hostess not very friendly, the bathroom is not up to standard at all.
Upside: Conveniently located for my needs. Clean towels and linen timeously provided. Downside: Dishwashing facilities inadequate. Only handbasin and 2 plastic basins provided. No opening window, just the sliding door at entrance for ventilation.
The place was clean, comfortable and safe. Really enjoyed the silence.
Unsafe parking, bed and bedding excellent, kitchen and bathroom not up to standard, no hot water in the kitchen. No mirrors for women.
